Igbokid: According to the report , the pathologist wasn't sure of the cause of the lung injury reason why he queried (??) Chemical intoxication.
But from what I could deduce from the report, I'd wager a bet he died from a MODS Multi organ dysfunction syndrome - Heart , Lung and the brain
My reasons are - Features of hepatosplenomegally - The hemosiderin laden macrophages - Features of raised ICP
The heart apparently failed according to the report. Heart failure cells ( hemosiderin laden macrophages) and hepatosplenomegally proved that.
The gastric finding was also instructive . That looks like a stress ulcer ( which could be from shock vis a viz MODS).
Also, the parents should be asked what was given to that child . With the desquamation of his lips , could it be some sort of SJS ?? With the same offending agent ( usually a medication) triggering a widespread immunological response culminating in MODS .
This is just my humble submission based on my little medical knowledge. I'd like my chiefs here to say what they think about the findings.
That said, this doesn't absolve the alleged perpetrators of the heinous crime that led to the untimely demise of that young chap of any crime. Justice must be served . This would serve as a deterrent and also help Sylvesta's family to achieve the needed closure.
PS: Forgive me if you find the medical jargons up there unintelligible I thought as much too sir. Because I couldn't wrap my head around the correlation between chemical Ingestion and acute lung failure that's why I suspected it was queried. But in addition to the above, I want you to look at it from this angle. From the report on the kidney, they was evidence of parenchymal congestion i.e cortico- medullary differentiation "shocked kidney" which is indicative of acute blood loss. Also the reddish deposits on the lungs is instructive. We should also remember sir that this is an embalmed body where the blood has been replaced with formalin, hence we can't tentatively rule out internal hemorrhage due to trauma. In addition I also feel hepatosplenomegaly is also present in internal hemorrhage (not too sure). But chief what do you see about the above submission, because this report seems confusing to me |

NairaMaster1: So, you didn't read the autopsy results?
If you did then you may not have read the conclusion :........ "In the background of acute blunt trauma. "
Go back and read everything.
Check the lung and the spleen. It's not the chemical content that killed him but the damaged lungs due to the trauma.
What the chemical did was to enlarge the liver without hepatitis, that means that it wouldn't have killed him even at that because the liver was not inflamed.
I hope this helps your lay man understanding? But Sir, they said "Acute lung injury DUE to chemical intoxication" And I have not been able to wrap my mind around it. Could it be due to aspiration of the chemical fluid into the lungs |

Euphoria081: Good day doc what do I when my dog is having stalled labor (like delay in contraction) during labor, when there is no vet on speed dial and the labor falls at night. Is there any drug i can administer or something. Pls help Good morning sir and sorry for the delay. There is not much you can do than to keep her warm and tender loving care, pending when your Vet arrives or better still once it's morning, rush her straight to a Vet hospital. Please don't be tempted to use Oxytocin, the way some people may advice you, it's a drug that should be used strictly under veterinary supervision except you would cause more harm than good. I hope this helps |

Gnosticstudent: The Vets unfortunately aren't available till Monday and the others are reluctant to assist.
She is still on glucose solution, still vomits and stools... I wish I could get you to see the nature of her stool. It's dark brown and liquid.. Say 90% so. The last vomit was this morning at about 11am. It's was kind of slimy, really like mucid. The last stool was a few moments ago.
My worst worry is the fact that it still won't eat..No food since Wednesday.. Despite vitamin shots from the Vet. Deworming and Anti emetic
Winnie is a terrible shadow of herself.
Please is there any good and potent medication that can make her eat, bring back her appetite...
Thanks Contact me asap via WhatsApp, I'll DM my number to you, or alternatively you can drop your number here, I'll message you, and I'll prescribe an emergency procedure for you |

Intersexxsherry: yes location matters too in determining what Snake specie it is. So you may be right, its just a harmless bush green snake since its found in Nigeria. Natal green Snakes are not found in Nigeria. So definitely its a harmless bush green snake. Nice one ma, you're a real researcher, thumbs up |

I had an experience as a Veterinarian. A client messaged me on WhatsApp that he needed some medical assistance for his pregnant dog. From the pictures he sent and observation I made, it was really nothing to be worried about and I gave him my reassurance. Everytime he messages me, the only thing I tell him is "all will be well calm down" nothing else!. Fast-forward to delivery date and the dog delivered 8 pups, and he paid me 10,000 naira for my "services" despite several rejections because I didn't render any service, all I did, was saying "all will be well calm down". I wanted to ask, was it okay as I collected the money? |
Pets › Re: Caught A Green Snake And I Want To Keep It As Pet by seunH: 2:44pm On Dec 25, 2021 |
Intersexxsherry: The correct answer is Natal Green Snake.. Harmless. Black mouth doesn't make it Green Mamba. Its not a bush green snake.. Its a Natal Green Snake. Thank you. Thanks, but I still think it's an African Green Bush snake due to geographical distribution. Natal Green Snake are found majorly in South and East Africa like Mozambique etc not west Africa. Let's look at it that way |
Pets › Re: Caught A Green Snake And I Want To Keep It As Pet by seunH: 11:17pm On Dec 24, 2021*. Modified: 12:40am On Dec 25, 2021 |
From what I'm seeing here, it's actually an African green bush snake which are nonvenomous. These snake have a dark/black pigmented oral cavity unlike Green Mamba's which is light. The Green Mamba close to Nigeria is the Western Green Mamba's and are light green (very light green) with light oral cavity unlike it's cousin the Black Mamba and it's rarely found in Nigeria . It's not also Boomslang because the eyes of the Boomslang is very big in relation to it's head, as in you can't miss it. My advice: What you're reading above is theoretical, don't use your life to gamble, moreover a nonvenomous snake bite can still inflict you with serious life threatening infection like Tetanus, Staphylococcus etc which may be deadly. I hope this helps.!!!! |

Clakyvip: Good morning Doc, Merry Christmas, I have a. 8 months old female gsd, I noticed for like a week now a sudden drop in appetite, at first I thought it was a change in environment, but continued over a week, gave several favorite food but no changes, she will just pick the chicken meat or meat on top, I noticed more brown urine, brown feaces, low appetite, fur shedding dogs…took her to the vet yesterday but he said it’s worms, gave her deworming injection and I also bought albiovit multivitamins…I am still worried because no changes since yesterday, she is not eating, no watery stooling(Infact the feaces are hard) no vomiting. Good morning sir, I'm so sorry, please calm down, all will be well. I'll like to ask a few questions sir. Were tests conducted before the Vet said it was worm infestation? If Yes, then be patient sir, you have nothing to fear although it would have been better if atleast a broad spectrum antibiotics was included. If No, then you'll have to ensure it's done to rule out any other disease. I'll be on standby |
Pets › Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH(op): 8:25am On Dec 24, 2021 |
Gnosticstudent: She's been treated by the vet. According to the Vet, she was administered anti emetic, vitamins, and was dewormed.
She still threw up like a couple of times since we got back from the vet yesterday morning.
Still not eating and has been just on glucose solution.
How long from your experience does it take for a puppy dog to begin to eat after deworming?
Thanks. Good morning sir, I'm so sorry once more. At the Vet clinic you went to yesterday, were tests conducted on your pet esp parvovirus? Because from what I'm seeing above, it may not just be a case of worm infestation other diseases may be involved. Rarely do worm infestation cause severe vomiting except in very severe cases. I'm also surprised why no antibiotics were given to you, atleast to prevent opportunistic infections. As for your question, deworming normally does not have significant effect on appetite and should begin to eat very soon depending on the severity of the infestation. For now try and be observant and inform me of any development, I'll be on standby. |

She has been throwing up this morning. She last threw up like a couple hours ago. Didn't notice anything unusual in her vomit tho.. She is talking glucose dissolved in water. But still no god yet and still sluggish. We are running a test as soon as very arrives. I'm so sorry once more Sir, but let me drop a little advice Sir. If possible it's better to go to a Vet clinic as you're likely to come across a qualified Vet, than those who do house visits. But all the same I'll be on standby in case of emergency |

sylva1: Hi Doc, I just got a GSD puppy and she is 7 weeks old. May I know what are the necessary vaccinations/drugs required for her wellbeing? Good afternoon sir and congratulations. First you would need to get multivitamins and vitamin C, It helps in boosting immunity. Then I'll advice you get fipronil® spray on standby in case of ticks infestation (prevention). For the vaccination, you would have to visit a Veterinary clinic/hospital where the appropriate vaccination regimen would be administered by a qualified veterinarian at the right age starting from now. I wish you the best sir |

Godfirst01: Good day Doc, please I need your help. My pregnant boerboel dog has this small rashes on her body and always scratching it. It's now spreading fast all over her body. I have applied penicillin on it but no changes. I don't want to administer drugs cos of her pregnancy. Please kindly suggest treatment. Thanks Good morning sir, from what I'm seeing above, I'm suspecting dermatitis which could be due to ectoparasites e.g Mange. Since she is pregnant, let's avoid any systemic anti-ectoparasitic drug, let's go for topical anti-ectoparasitic drug. Get Amitraz®, and ensure its very diluted then bath her with it. You can also get topical anti-ectoparasitic cream from any vet pharmacy and apply to the area. Penicillin may not work because penicillin is majorly for bacteria and not ectoparasites. Once she has delivered her pups, then I'll tell you the next step. |

I’m scared it might by pyometra. I need your help! Good morning sir, your fears are understandable, but I want you to put your mind at rest. Our management plan is going to be divided into two; 1) You'll have to take her a Vet clinic for thorough check up especially the hardness of the stomach which could be due to impaction and also in case of anything you missed 2) Meanwhile, I'll prescribe some broad spectrum antibiotics to you and multivitamins. For the pyometra, let's await the outcome of your visit to the clinic, so that we will know the next step. I'll DM the prescription to you. I'll be on standby |

Gnosticstudent: Hello Bro,
Please what can I do? Since this morning, I noticed my 5month old Eskie seem to have anorexia. It no longer eats even her most favorite meals of meat, fish, etc.
It won't eat, up until this moment. Plus I noticed it makes sound like it wanna throw up, it have noticed this sound several times this evening. It tries to throw up, but nothing comes out.
I also noticed a serious lethargy, sluggish behavior as opposed to her usual very agile and energetic ways of hoping around, playing and running around. All that changed since this morning.
And it's as though she is restless. I have been wondering the cause of this terrible loss of appetite.
Stool still seem normal.
Thanks Good evening sir, I'm so sorry about this condition. A lot of things can be responsible for the above. Because of this season, parvo would be part of our differential. I'll suggest you go for test in a clinic inorder for is to pinpoint what exactly is wrong. Meanwhile I'll recommend multivitamins esp Vit C and B complex. Please keep her hydrated and give glucose too. Let me know the outcome of the test, I'll be on standby |

No problem sir, I'll advice you go to the clinic or hospital to get an x-ray done on the area in order to get an accurate diagnosis. The above seems like parvo, although further test would be needed for confirmation. The best solution to this condition is a visit to a vet clinic/hospital asap. Meanwhile, I can recommend some first aid measures pending your visit to the Vet clinic. 1) Ensure he is hydrated and also give glucose, this would give him a bit of stamina 2) Get this solution Novax®, it's an antidiarrheal and antiemetic, this would provide temporary relief. 3) Calm down Please update me on any development, I'll be on standby |

Zeeknow3245: Congrats Dr. You really worked hard for it. You had to battle serious hazards; physical, emotional and mental. You're strong. I just want to quickly call out some ignorant people who justify their Ignorance here. Veterinary Medicine is very diversified. A Vet graduate wouldn't feel the heat working under pressure at all. Many Vets are into business. One of the very few courses that teaches you independence. We must be frank with ourselves how many courses makes you independent? Some people mocking this Veterinary Medicine are quacks making money off of it. Some people here also are doing courses that people consider great and at the end will become jobless and hateful. There are many Vets across various sectors of business. Agriculture? Banking and Finance? Education? Politics? Health?. Some people also go as far as claiming to be Vets meanwhile they're just Animal scientists, breeders, animal husbandry graduates, etc. Some people say people don't value pets. I will tell you something YOU ARE BROKE. Who cares about Animals? That Businessman that trains an average of 15-3000 birds for sell, egg, feathers. Who cares about Animals? The Vet who invests in time to go into the business of Animal feed. Who cares about his customers, hustling day and night so they can get the right feed to boost their animals yield and also to cater for their families. Who cares about Animals? That big breeder who imports foreign dogs for sale and would not want enter losses. Who cares about Animals? Pet owners who can sacrifice their money for their pets comfort. Who cares about Animals? The Government that has a Research Institute specifically for Animals and things relating to animals (NVRI). That has a functional vaccine production facility? Trains paraveterinary workers? Tests Covid? Researches on zoonotic diseases? When was the last time a Vaccine for humans was produced in Nigeria? 1991? Yet people say Nigeria doesn't care about Animals?. Who cares about Animals? The state government who have large animal farms to cater for the shortages of beef. Actively producing milk, fish, eggs, pork etc. Who cares about Animals? Who cares about Animals!!!!!! The Military, The Paramilitary. Drug Agencies, Zoos etc. Who cares about Vets? I see. Should we start mentioning Vet Teaching Hospitals? Private Veterinary Clinics and Hospitals? Even that Vet that you think is small. Giving Animal injection, sell pets, sell animal food and drugs and giving advice making over 200 -300 thousand for a start is far better than some people with their pride and ego making 80k and still spewing trash from their mouth here on NLAND whereas you can be sacked at anytime. He decides his time, decides his income and decides who he employs as his assistant. I see Ignorance here. Some may call me a Liar but check what Sanwo Olu is doing in Lagos. What Akeredolu is doing in Ondo as well as many Governors. We are just too Petty and pained on NLAND. Excellent write up, keep it up |
