Henuell:Happy new year sir, from what I'm seeing, it's like you've not vaccinated your pup. My sincere advice, is for you to go to the nearest registered vet clinic, get your dog vaccinated and inform your vet about the ticks, he will prescribe an appropriate medication that is compatible with the age of your dog. I hope this helps!!!! |
xareal:Happy new year Sir, The most effective way is by administration of Ivermectin injection (by a qualified professional) in order to destroy the parasite from within, and also get an acaricidal bath like lime sulphur, armitraz, cypermethrin etc to bath your dog every week in order to destroy the parasite from outside. But please make sure your dog's environment is clean and if you are financially buoyant enough, you can get Fipronil® spray for preventive measures. #NOTE: If you don't have access to a qualified professional to administer Ivermectin inj, you can use the oral formulation (based on professional advice) or Bravecto® a brand of fluralaner. I hope this helps !!!! |
Henuell:You can, you will simply dissolve in water and administer, but as your dog goes older, its better she swallows it whole directly in the mouth. But it should be noted however that the drugs used for routine deworming is quite different, those ones are usually combination therapy. |
Henuell:Perfect |
Henuell:Personally, I would still insist you go for an albendazole based dewormer like Wormoff®, Zentel® etc. Wormin® is a mebendazole based dewormer not albendazole BUT if you can't find any albendazole based dewormer, you can use the Wormin® like that, its also good too. For the Red caterat, I'm not familiar with the drug, I guess you didn't get the spelling right. If its with you, you can snap it. |
Nastymarz:Good afternoon, sorry for the delay. Fish food is an excellent source of balanced diet for dogs because fishes are rich in animal protein which are important for growth and repair of body tissues and oil which helps in inflammation. In fact during crises, dogs can survive only on fish for a very long time without any other food. However, there are some downsides associated with fish feeding which I'll itemize below; RAW FISH- Avoid feeding your dog with raw fish, this is due to the fact that raw fishes contain some harmful microorganisms like bacteria (Salmonella) etc which may poison or cause illness to your dog if eaten raw. Hence ensure the fish is properly cooked before given to your dog. ALLERGY- Some dogs are allergic to fish food or anything fish, this is because fishes trigger allergic reactions to such dog. Hence ensure you introduce fish food to you dog little by little and not suddenly so as to gradually confirm your dog's allergic status. FRIED FISH- Frying your fish excessively in oil may be harmful to your dog, due to the fact that excess oil in the fish due frying causes stomach upset & other digestive system disease and even obesity, hence boiled fish, grilled fish or lightly fried fish is much more preferable FISH BONE- Bones in fish can lodge in the digestive system of your dog causing serious harm to your dog. Hence ensure the bones are totally removed before been fed to your dog. In conclusion, if the above guidelines can be followed, your dog would get the best benefit from fish food without any drawbacks. I hope this helps!!! MODIFIED The poster who asked the question was referring to "feeds given to fishes". With regards "feeds given to fishes", that one may have issues, because some of the methods used to process these fishes may be unhygienic and some would even have started growing moulds on them thereby making them toxic to dogs. Hence, except you are sure of the processing, components and preparation methods, its not really advisable. |
harmony940:Good morning sir, and I'm so sorry about what happened. First, I will want you to calm down and don't panic, its an issue that can be resolved. Secondly, please avoid using hot or cold compress or even attempting to burst the abscess, it aggravates the condition. Thirdly, I would prescribe a pain reliever that has strong anti inflammatory properties in order to reduce pain (I'm sure your dog won't be able to use that area very well because of pain) & reduce the swelling and also a broad spectrum antibiotic in order to fight any bacterial infection and then finally I'll prescribe some multivitamins to you in order to boost your dog's immune system and enable faster healing. I'll DM these drugs to you via email or whatzapp |
Bubewilson:Then you have nothing to fear sir, just keep cleaning the area with a clean cotton wool soaked in mild antiseptic regularly. The discharge would stop very soon, but if it is prolonged or you notice any other sign or symptom, please don't hesitate to call our attention. |
Bubewilson: |
Henuell:Good morning sir, I'm so sorry to say, but it is ABNORMAL. Although it's not something you should panic about. A very good dewormer would suffice. Personally I usually recommend albendazole- based dewormer like wormoff®, zentel® etc, they have proven over time to be very effective. I hope this helps!!! |
Bubewilson:Concerning your second question. First of all, I'll recommend you feed your dam with a highly nutritious diet for example diet rich in calcium, iron and other essential vitamins like meat, fish, egg and milk. Secondly, please keep your dam and the pups warm and avoid exposure to harsh weather condition. Thirdly, vaccination is very essential as at when due. Lastly, ensure you have access to a licensed and qualified veterinarian for regular check up and you too should be very observant in case you notice any sign. I hope this helps!!! |
Bubewilson:Good morning sir, truth be told, It would be improper for me to make a diagnosis based on this picture alone sir, I would have to further ask some few questions from you in order to make an accurate diagnosis. For example, which other signs are you observing? Do you observe pain in the area? Is there any discharge? How did the delivery go? Have you applied any medication so far? The answers to these questions would go a long way in assisting ALTHOUGH personally to me it doesn't seem okay. Once you can assist me in making an accurate diagnosis, I would tell you what to do next. |
LordPherule:Good evening sir, I personally would not recommend any supplements or multivitamin, rather I would recommend high quality nutritious foods, which has all the necessary nutrients and supplements in a balanced and right amount. It is only in disease condition or deficiencies would it be imperative for supplement and multivitamins administration. In conclusion don't stress yourself, just simply give good and nutritious food to your cat, like fish, meat, milk etc BUT AVOID GARLIC AND ONIONS, they are dangerous to cats. I hope this helps!!! |
vicardino:I've sent it to your mail, you can check it |
vicardino:Okay sir, I've examined the pics you've sent, inasmuch as you said the injury is slight, I'll suggest we don't take chances. So I'll recommend the following: 1) Since the wound looks like its clean, I'll recommend you continue cleaning the wound with methylated spirit BUT this time around apply GV (Gentian Violet, a purple ointment also used in humans to treat wound), twice a day (morning and night), 2) Then I'll also recommend you administer a broad spectrum prophylactic antibiotics which would fight any secondary microbial infection that can affect the wound/body (I'll prescribe the best antibiotics to you via mail/WhatsApp, because it's unethical to do so publicly on social media), 3) Lastly please put your mind at rest and give us feedback on any development. I hope this helps? |
vicardino:Thanks so much sir, before I can prescribe a medication to you, I'll like to know the location and severity of the injury (what you see as slight, may be different from the way I see it). Hence I'll be very happy if you could snap the site of injury, so that I can properly assess the injury and prescribe appropriate medications. NB: You can post the pictures on this thread or via whatzapp. I hope this helps |
Ojenose:Okay then, there is no cause for alarm. Personally, I'll advice we watch till when your dog is 6 months old, if by 6 months and still no progress, then we will explore other alternatives. It should be noted that occasionally one ear may stand before the other and even within the GSD breed, some may have erect ears as early as 10 weeks while some as late as 5-6 months. Hence provided your dog is generally fine, no pain no discharge, I'll suggest we give it an extra month. Meanwhile I'll further advice you give calcium supplement while we explore ear taping but that should be done when your dog has finished teething I hope this helps |
dayjeee:I'm so sorry for the delay, before I recommend anything, its better we know the root cause of the problem if there is any? Also I'll like to know the kind of milk, how often you feed your dog, if you noticed any other sign and lastly the dewormer you used. All these information would guide me in identifying what could be wrong before recommendations. |
Ojenose:I'm so sorry for the late response, been busy with the day's work. I'll advice that, we should be patient a bit, by the way, have you tried examining the area just to be sure everything is okay around there? If all is well, then we should be patient a bit. But if still there are no changes, we would know the next step to take. |
Wakins:Good morning sir, I'm sorry we don't do that here on this thread, it is unethical and illegal. I'll suggest you take your dog to the nearest vet clinic were your dog would be properly examined and appropriate medication prescribed. I hope this helps. |
jonnex:Amen sir, I feel elated and I wish you the same, but remember sir, that I'm just doing my job as a Vet and your pet's health and your satisfaction is our utmost interest. I've saved your number and would update you on any further development. Thanks for the appreciation, you made my day. |
Bubewilson:Excellent, and don't hesitate to inform me on any new development, I'll be on standby. |
Bubewilson:For the pregnant dog, its quite safe depending on the term of pregnancy provided its not an ivermectin sensitive breed, for the nursing dog, I'll personally advice you to be patient a little bit and let the pups be weaned because some residues of these drugs find their way into the milk. I hope it helps? |
yeman1:Follow me or let me email you my number, then I'll chat you up. |
uchihajt:It can be managed, but I'm preparing a full article on false pregnancy, I'll drop it here as soon as I'm done |
yeman1:Good afternoon sir, and I'm really sorry for the late reply. The condition is quite unfortunate but in many cases has to do with the temperament of your dog which is usually genetic. Now it now depends on you the owner, the reason you got her. If you got her strictly for security purposes then I'll advice you to let her be. But if you got her for breeding purposes then you may have to get another dog to be her companion perhaps this may ease her temperament (this is speculative) or I'll have to prescribe some medications for you that would calm her down especially during mating but at the end you'll still need to get another dog with a better temperament, I hope this helps!! |
Dogshow:Its a pleasure, I'll add you |
replete:It's very terrible my brother, I even heard of an animal breeder who does caesarian section for pregnant dogs and even claims to be an expert. And you know the funny thing, if the OP's dog had died, he would have blamed the veterinary profession not knowing he patronized a quack. |
Good morning sir and I'm so sorry about your dog's condition. I'll advice you on how to go about this in two ways. First of all, how is your dog generally? is he feeling pain or weak? if yes, you'll have to administer pain relievers which I'll prescribe personally to you because its not all human pain relievers you can use for dogs. Then please DO NOT NEUTER your dog until you've done a lab test in order to identify what is really wrong your dog and also identify the exact microorganism causing the inflammation. That will guide in getting the most effective drug treatment peculiar to that microorganism. Meanwhile stabilize your dog and make your dog comfortable by relieving pain. And as said earlier, its better all these are done by a qualified vet in a standard veterinary clinic/hospital where you have access to qualified manpower and equipments. I hope this helps? |
I posted this article on a website and I felt I should share it here. DOG VACCINATION IN NIGERIA INTRODUCTION Vaccination is the injection of a killed microbe in order to stimulate the immune system against the microbe, thereby preventing disease. A vaccine typically contains an agent that resembles a disease-causing organism and is often made from weakened or attenuated version of that particular pathogen, its toxin or one of its surface proteins. Vaccines work by stimulating the immune system to recognize the infectious agent as foreign and remember it so that the immune system can easily recognize and destroy any of these agents that it later encounters, the immune system then begins the process of developing immunity against this agent. When a sufficiently large percentage of a population has been vaccinated, herd immunity results. The effectiveness of vaccination has been widely studied and verified and has been proven to be the most effective method of preventing infectious diseases. Vaccination of dogs have contributed both to the health of dogs and also to public health, with human health benefiting from immunization of animals directly and indirectly. Currently, there are geographically defined core vaccines and individually chosen non-core vaccines recommendation for dogs. Core vaccines are vaccines that all dogs should receive to protect them against disease of global significance or where legislation may dictate example; canine rabies while non-core vaccines is dictated by geographic location, life style and exposure. Dogs are susceptible to many diseases and some of these diseases can be prevented or treated with available vaccine. Some of these vaccine preventable diseases include canine distemper, rabies, canine parvovirus enteritis, infectious canine hepatitis, leptospirosis and canine parainfluenza. In Nigeria, canine vaccination is usually in form of a 5-way vaccine called "DHLPP"standing for Distemper, Hepatitis (Adenovirus), Leptospira, Parainfluenza and Parvovirus. Vaccination of dogs in Nigeria has been controversial especially with regards its efficacy in preventing vaccinable diseases for example parvovirus. This could be due to prevalence of quackery, mishandling and poor storage of vaccines, and finally lack of production of indigenous vaccines that are well suited for our climate and breeds common in Nigeria. HOW MUCH IS IT TO VACCINATE DOGS IN NIGERIA The price of vaccination varies just the same way there are different vaccines with different effectiveness whose prices are different. To also add the fact that economic variables like location of the vet clinic, etc also matters. For instance the cost of vaccination in a vet clinic in an highbrow area like Lekki, Victoria Island etc would not be same as the cost of vaccination in a low income area. Hence it would be misleading to categorically state a particular cost as the amount it takes to vaccinate a dog in Nigeria. DOG VACCINATION SCHEDULE IN NIGERIA 6 — 8 weeks Distemper, parvovirus 10 — 12 weeks DHLPP (vaccines for distemper, adenovirus [hepatitis], leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus) 16 — 18 weeks DHLPP, rabies 12 — 16 months DHLPP, rabies Every 1-3 years- Rabies Every 1-2 years- DHLPP PRICE OF CANINE VACCINES IN NIGERIA As said earlier, the prices of canine vaccines vary based on several factors such as the brand, location etc. But generally from experience and market survey. The vaccination regimen is usually varies around the amount below; a) DHLPP Vaccine- 6,000 (Price may vary based on brand or location) b) Anti Rabies Vaccine- 6,000 (Price may vary based on brand or location) c) Dewormer- 3,000 (Price may vary based on brand or location) Some may sell as low as 4,000-6,000 but as said earlier it varies. It should be noted that the sales of vaccines is highly regulated and not for sale over the counter. |
amizzy48:So sorry for the delay, although I've told you what to do via WhatsApp. I still felt I needed to respond to this post, so that others can learn. Although its normal for a dog you just mated to produce discharge especially if the mating was successful (pregnant), however the color of the above discharge was making me uncomfortable (seems probably infected). So I advised a broad spectrum prophylactic antibiotics that is safe for pregnant dogs, this is to clear any infection that might be present and I also advised multivitamins to boost immunity. I am very hopeful we will get a positive outcome. Please to others especially breeders, I'll advice you to use studs that are disease-free and if not sure, go to a qualified vet to examine your pet for presence of any disease after mating !!!! |
ambient:I usually recommend wormoff® or any albendazole based dewormer. For the pooing all over the compound, I'll suggest you review and change the type of food you give your dog, let's see if there would be improvement. |
