chimzy105:It is not like that ma, I am not familiar with "Ivermectin dissolved in water", the one I'm sure of is Ivermectin Injection which is the most effective against parasites. Ivermectin I know usually comes as injectables hardly I've I ever heard "dissolved in water". if believe if your rabbit had been given Ivermectin injection rather than dissolve in water, the result would have been different. |
wEsOmE:Yes please, your dog could be having allergic reaction to the drug. |
Starboytwo:From a veterinary perspective, considering the age of your dog (puppy stage) fattening shouldn't be a priority for now, the puppy stage is a critical period of a dog's life cycle as it requires more nutrition especially protein, hence priority would be meals rich in; (a) Animal protein like boiled meat, chicken, fish etc (b) Vitamins like fruits (carrot etc) and vegetables (spinach "efo" etc) (c) High calorie meals like rice, beans etc. However since its a growing pup, bias should be towards proteinous meals over high calorie meals since it would need more protein for growth and repair of body tissues. But if you want to save yourself all the above stress, you can just simply walk into any pet food shop and tell them the age of your pup, they would recommend and give you an appropriate ready made pet food suitable for your pup, however since you said "enugbe", ill advice against it because some of the feeds are quite expensive moreover I'm not too comfortable with such arrangement because such pet foods are usually canned and contain preservatives. I hope this help |
wEsOmE:Okay, I now understand. Since you are not seeing improvement and rather it is spreading, please tell your vet to administer Ivermectin inj, the reason is to rule out the possibility of any ectoparasite. Secondly, go to to any pharmacy and get an antiinflammatory cream/lotion and apply topically to the affected area. Then lastly get Amoxicillin, 1 tab once a day, to combat any ongoing systemic infection. You can supplement all the above with multivitamins like b-complex and Vit C. Please also ensure your environment is also clean and let's observe for 2 days. I hope this helps? |
pufframmy:This is a very severe case and requires professional intervention in a vet clinic as soon as possible. I'll will prescribe some drugs you would use for the meantime to stabilize your dog while you prepare to take him to the vet clinic. I'm so sorry once more |
pufframmy:I'm so sorry about the condition, This looks like a serious case and I would like to ask some further questions from you e.g deworming history, vaccination history etc, in order to get a clearer picture before I proceed. You can DM your whatsapp contact |
funmike83:I'm so sorry about your pet's condition, ticks can come from anywhere even within cracks on the wall and its important you keep your dog away from your children for now. The ivermectin injection is the most effective way because it will destroy the parasite from within while at the same time, you will bath your dog weekly with acaricidal baths like amitraz, cypermethrin, lime sulphur etc in order to destroy the parasite externally. Then it is important you keep your environment clean and spray with fipronil® spray as a preventive measure. Ivermectin is the best because it is effective against all ectoparasites regardless of the specie and its also cheap. In conclusion if you do the above plus good personal and environmental hygiene, God willing there won't be recurrence. Follow me, so that I can DM my WhatsApp contact to you. I hope this helps |
Jackonsy:I hope its not Brucellosis because it is difficult to eradicate once contracted and most of the drugs used to treat it are contraindicated in pregnant dogs example tetracycline etc. That was why I prescribed amoxicillin to you since its a very effective broad spectrum antibiotics especially in reproductive tract infection and most importantly safe for pregnant dogs. But if you suspect Brucellosis, then we may try enrofloxacin in replacement since its effective against Brucellosis and hopefully compatible with pregnancy. I hope this helps |
wEsOmE:I'm so sorry for the late response, in order to avoid misdiagnosis, can you please tell me other symptoms you are observing so that I can get a clearer picture of what is going on. Although from what I'm seeing, I can observe dermatitis which could be due to ectoparasites or allergy hence was wondering why the "vet guy" said its was going to go on its own, perhaps he is seeing what I ain't seeing !!! All the same I await your reply. |
Jackonsy:From my personal viewpoint as a veterinarian, I'll advice you administer the first dose before mating, then continue the remaining dose afterwards. The rationale behind it, is that when you administer before mating, the drug would have flooded your dog's system and as the infection is entering your dog via the stud (if infected), it would get destroyed immediately before it builds up and start multiplying. It should be noted that other vets may differ with their own rationale. |
Jackonsy:I now understand, the infection your dog had is probably due to the stud you used, the stud was probably infected. What I'll advice is that you should ensure the stud you use is disease free, if not sure, get another stud, then to be on the safe side, administer amoxicillin 1 tab twice a day to your dog before and immediately after mating to fight off any infection just in case. |
Jackonsy:It is not advisable to give anti infection or antibiotics to a pregnant dog. In fact it was recently discovered that Tetracycline (a popular antibiotics) can cause miscarriage in pregnant animals. So in order to avoid miscarriage, I'll recommend the following drugs; 1) Folic Acid- This is to ensure the fetus (baby in the womb) develops properly 2) Iron supplement eg Ferrox etc- This is to ensure increased formation and production of blood that will be sufficient for both the mother and the fetus. 3) Nutritious food and rest- Food rich in calorie, protein and vitamins are essential for proper general development and wellbeing. If you are financially buoyant enough you could by general multivitamins supplements too, but usually a good nutrition would suffice. I hope this helps |
jacoik:Mycobacterium tuberculosis sir |
jacoik:It doesn't work that way sir |
backnbeta:It doesn't work that way ma, trust me I'm a veterinarian. Let me explain, the lungs may still be infected depending on the infective agent as in our case Mycobacterium bovis. These microorganisms have the capability to withstand high temperature and since the boiling point of water during cooking is about 100 degrees, they may survive. Also ma, these microorganisms have the ability to form shells and protective covering around themselves which may limit the effect of heat on them. The funny part is many people contact a lot of diseases from eating all these meat and even milk products, it was even discovered recently that a bacteria called Brucella spp causes miscarriage in women and an average man can never detect this bacteria in meat/milk except a Vet, hence a lot of women suffer from miscarriage and then blame their village people!! without knowing it was the meat or milk they ate. Finally FOR ALL NON VETS READING THIS, YOU CAN DIAGNOSE A LUNG INFECTED BY TUBERCULOSIS, IF YOU SEE WHITISH OR CREAMY SPOTS ON THE LUNGS OR IF THE LUNGS TASTE CRUNCHY, THAT "CRUNCHYNESS" YOU ARE TASTING IS THE SHELL FORMED BY THE Mycobacterium bovis. To cap it all, these above problems can be solved if veterinary practice is taken seriously by the government and appropriate laws and enforcement process is put in place. |
onward4life:Please don't try it again, if you love your dog |
Nackzy:Simply go a a vet, he/she will administer Ivermectin injection in order to destroy the parasite from within, and you can also get an acaricidal bath like lime sulphur, armitraz, cypermethrin etc to bath your dog every week. But please make sure your dog's environment is clean and if you are financially buoyant enough, you can get Fipronil® spray for preventive measures. I hope this helps |
JAccksnow:Hi, since you just adopted it, I will advice you fight it both internally and externally. Internally with Ivermectin while externally with acaricidal bath e.g Lime sulphur, amitraz or cypermethrin. For preventive measures you can get (Fipronil® spray) |
Besthopebamdell:DM your number to me, I'll respond with my number. |
Besthopebamdell:You are welcome sir. There are many factors to consider when deciding to own a dog or going into dog business, I will try and highlight the most important ones and they include the following; 1) Reason why you want to own a dog (which in your case is for dog business) 2) Financial capabilities of the owner - Rearing dogs can be very financially tasking (good food, vaccinations, drugs, veterinary services etc), so you have to be prepared 3) Time - Your day to day schedule must give you enough time to have for your dog so as to detect any abnormal behavior/ condition early enough 4) Patience - You have to be very patient especially if you want to be a dog breeder, you must never be in a haste for anything at all. For instance, you must allow your dog mature before using her to mate 5) Never patronize quacks - No matter how cheap quacks may be, patronize only registered and qualified veterinarians and never hesitate to consult your vet if you detect any slight abnormality, do not wait until it is too late, furthermore never leave anything to chance. In conclusion, dog breeding business is a very lucrative business only if you can be patient and do the right thing at the right time as stated above. #You can reach out to me any time for further questions and clarification. I hope this helps!!! |

harmargedon:You can break it into 2-4 pieces, please don't crush into tiny pieces or powder, nor dissolve in water. It was discovered that many antihelminth failure was due to maladministration. |
harmargedon:Its okay, its main constituent is albendazole which is a very effective antihelminth. PLEASE TAKE NOTE, Do not crush or dissolve in water while administering. Let your dog swallow it intact as a bolus. |

ebonyoyas:I feel honoured Sir, I'm simply doing my job, it is God that heals. Thanks so much for the appreciation. |
In view of the uprising of different charlatans masquerading themselves as vets thereby putting your pet's life in danger in addition to incurring heavy financial losses, it was deemed appropriate to write this piece in order for pet owners to know their rights and what to expect when they visit a genuine veterinarian and also use that as a yardstick to distinguish charlatans from genuine veterinarians. These are your rights below; 1) It is your right as a pet owner to be attended to nicely, with the veterinarian patiently listening to all the problems your pet is facing as regards to it's health 2) It is your right as a pet owner for your pet to also be treated nicely with compassion while the veterinarian tries to diagnose your pet's condition 3) It is your right as a pet owner for the the veterinarian to tell you what he/she feels is wrong with your pet after examination 4) It is your right as a pet owner, for the veterinarian to tell you the prognosis(severity and chances of survival) of your pet's condition 5) It is your right as a pet owner, for the veterinarian to tell you your options (may be commencement of treatment or euthenasia (based on the chances of survival or cost of treatment versus the value of your pet)) 6) It is your right as a pet owner, for veterinarian to tell you the name and explain the purpose of every drug the veterinarian wants to administer or wants you to administer 7) It is your right for the veterinarian to tell you the preventive measures to be taken to avoid your pet from contracting the disease/condition again In conclusion, if your "vet" denies you any of the above rights, He/She is LIKELY A QUACK. If there is anything anyone feels I left out should feel free to add. |
MrEgghead:Have you seen the picture I attached? |
Good afternoon everyone, I just commented on a case where the owner lost his rabbit due to quackery and unprofessionalism in the veterinary profession. Most Nigerians don't know their rights from a veterinarian and that is why quackery is so prevalent. When a case is taken to a Vet, it is the duty of the Vet to tell you what exactly he/she thinks is wrong with your pet, tell you the prognosis (chances of survival) and what your options are (does it make sense to treat or just euthanize your pet depending on the value of the pet, cost of treatment and chances of survival?). All these are your rights as a Nigerian when you visit a Vet. But in some cases he/she may not even tell you what was wrong, just ask some few questions, collect money from you and give you an unnamed injection/powder and asked you to go. It is such people that are spoiling the veterinary profession. |
midehill:That is rubbish, my brother let me tell you the truth as a veterinarian, most Nigerians don't know their rights and that is why quackery is so prevalent. Sir, it is the duty of the Vet to tell you what exactly he/she thinks is wrong with your pet, tell you the prognosis (chances of survival) and what your options are (does it make sense to treat or just euthanize your pet depending on the value of the pet, cost of treatment and chances of survival?). All these are your rights as a Nigerian when you visit a Vet. But in your case he/she didn't even tell you what was wrong, just asked some few questions, collected 1,500 from you and gave you an unnamed injection/powder and asked you to go. Sincerely that was very unprofessional, that is even if he/she is a Vet. It is such people that are spoiling our profession. I really wish I can return your 1,500 to you and most importantly keep your rabbit alive as much as possible. I'm sorry once more. |
midehill:I'm so sorry sir, this post just spoilt my mood. By the way, what did the vet tell you was wrong with your rabbit? what did the vet tell you was the name and purpose of the injection/white powder he gave to you? because the vet was supposed to tell you all these things. I'm so sorry once more |
OKOATA:My brother you are encouraging quackery |
