Walekennel: Doc, a pup that has never been vaccinated will it affect the growth Yes sir, it may affect. Absence of vaccination can affect growth due to predisposition to worm infestation and let's remember that worm infestation affects growth. Also absence of vaccination also predisposes your pup to several other diseases and as we know, diseases generally affect growth. I hope this helps? |

ChristoBam: Seriously I don't even know how to begin to thank you sir. I used the eye drop I got but the eye didn't improve in any way. So I sensed the anti inflammatory properties aren't that strong.
So I got the diclofenac eye drop and used it on the dog and two hours later, the dog started opening it's eyes a bit. For the first time in about 4 days. I've been using it on the dog religiously and the eye is almost perfectly fine right now.
Thank you so much sir. May God bless you abundantly. I really thought my dog would go blind. I'm really humbled Sir, but I want to let you know that, it's not by my effort but by the grace of God. As I always tell my students: "Everything is not all about money but good will" Thanks once more for the appreciation. |

LearnWisdom: Hello me seunH. I want to get a female pug, is it advisable to breed? I heard they don’t give birth naturally but with a cs. How true ? Good evening sir, the answer is yes to a reasonable extent, due to their size, aside that they are short snouted dogs hence more predisposed to respiratory infection. In conclusion, I won't discourage you because every breed has it own limitations but I'll just advice to be prepared to put in all your best and time, breeding business is not a tea party sir, its a serious time consuming business sir. |

cypherz: I'd a vet come around. He tested negative to Parvo and was put on broad spectrum antibiotics, multivitamin, flagyl, vitamins and glucose. He vomitted twice today (clear yellow fluid).
He is a small breed and already looks so bony. I'm worried af. Good evening sir, so sorry for the late response, my hands were filled throughout today. I'll advice you go to a registered government approved Vet clinic, for proper examination and monitoring. Sir I don't believe in all these "a vet came around.... etc" many of them are questionable. Meanwhile, ensure your dog is hydrated while you are observant. Please keep us updated |

cypherz: Hey. Thank you for this thread
My dog is a 7months Lhasa mix. Last week I noticed his appetite was dropping so my breeder plug reminded me that I'd missed 2 deworming session. I dewormed him and things returned to normal.
On Thursday he was uninterested in his food (canned). Same thing on Friday, hardly peed and didn't poo. We went for a walk today and he was active and pooed as usual (he likes to poo when he goes on walks). He got back, unenthusiastically ate then threw up a few minutes later.
He seems quieter and more subdued than usual also uninterested in canned food, potatoes (his favorites), raw chicken /(another favourite).
I'm beginning to worry. Any suggestions? Good morning Sir, inasmuch as I would want you to put your mind at rest, I'll still advice you to take your dog to a Vet clinic for thorough medical check up so as to rule out all possiblities. Please update us as it goes |

Ebiz29: Good evening to you all, please I need your opinions. My dog is still bleeding after 4 successful ties. Note she has been with the stud for a week, I just got her home today and I noticed blood in her cage thereafter. It's all over the place but not much at a time. I'm so sorry sir, I'll like you help us to examine the vulva to determine the exact source of the bleeding, whether it's due to bruising/tear during mating or infection (sexually transmitted infection). That would determine our next step. |

ChristoBam: I also need to point out that my dog has been scratching it's body seriously for the past 2 weeks or so. It has some wounds around it's body due to the scratching. Even discovered a new one this morning. I don't know if this can be related to the eye issue.
I've brought an Eye drop. It's not indicated on the cover, but the Chemist says it has Anti inflammatory and Antibiotics. It's called Ivygentacin. I don't think it's related to the eye issue, but I'll prescribe something to take care of that once we are seeing progress with the eye infection. But for the meantime you can get Amitraz solution and bath your dog with it, while you use GV for the wound. |

seunH: I thought as much, pls change it ASAP. When you get to the pharmacist ask for the one that is constituted with anti-inflammatory drugs. I'll also help you check for a good brand. Please ensure you update us on any development!!! If you can't find, just simply get diclofenac eyedrop it has very strong anti-inflammatory properties. You would use it concurrently with the chloramphenicol. |

ChristoBam: Hello please I've got a problem with one of my dog's eyes for about a week now. Noticed in the evening it had some strange brownish discharge. By the next morning, my dog's infected eye was fully closed. Only opens it on rare occasions. Took it to a vet and he gave it an injection. Said it was because of the regular fight it had with my other dog, a GSD. 3 days after, the eye has not improved and it has not gotten worse. Another vet told me to get an eye drop with antibiotics or something. Got it and two days later, it's still the same. I'm tired. Good morning Sir and I'm very sorry about your dog's condition. First of all, I'll appreciate if you can post the picture of the affected eye, so as to assist in diagnosis and recommendation. Meanwhile, I'll give you a list of what to do; 1) Get a clean cotton wool and soak in a mild antiseptic 2) Gently use it to dab & clean the affected area and while cleaning try to observe if there is any debris or particle still retained around or within the eye that may be causing the inflammation, if found, gently remove it. You can also gently try to open the eye while checking. 3) After that, apply the eye drop you were given but confirm the constituent first, it must have aside antibiotics/pain-relievers, an ANTI- INFLAMMATORY, I can help you on that 4) Finally, I would prescribe a systemic anti-inflammatory and antibiotics to supplement the eye drop, but would be after I've seen the picture of the affected and perhaps asked some few further questions. Please ensure you update us on further developments. I hope this helps!!!! |

MrEgghead: Are there Vet wanabees My friend you don't want to imagine, in fact that was what made the VCN start the process of issuing unitary veterinary identity cards to each licensed veterinarian in Nigeria because of "wannabe vets". Zeeknow3245: I work in a Vet clinic as an assistant. Restraining animals, Fumigation of animals in Large Farms. The Total vets in Nigeria are only 8000 registered with VCN in Nigeria. Over 2000 are not in Nigeria or have stopped practicing While a Majority are in Private Practice. Less than 2000 are working with Government. Most guys that claim to be Vets are Animal husbandry graduates or Animal Scientist. I have lost a Pet and I know the pain. My Brother if you want to catch a fake a Vet ask them which school they graduated from. Also just ask them two departments in veterinary medicine *Veterinary medicine *Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry *Veterinary Surgery and Radiology *Veterinary Microbiology *Veterinary Pathology *Veterinary Pharmacology and Therapeutics *Theriogeneology and Animal production Sorry for your loss. And sorry for how I sounded. Excellent |

Zeeknow3245: You're right Sir. I am not surprised why many are Ignorant of the profession. Our attitude concerning animal health is appalling. The Profession is not about companion animals. It is majorly divided into: *Companion Animal Medicine which many love going to *Large Animal Medicine Veterinarians are found not only in Taking care of pets but ensuring safety of meats, animal feeds, Drugs for animals. They are the Licensed individuals who import animals and animal products. Including Animal drugs. Veterinarians also walk as Sales Representative for Pharmaceutical and Agro-allied industries. A Vet is the difference a Multi-billion naira farm can earn or lose. Many vets don't want to go to Sub-Urban Environments because of they love city life and can't bear the local setting. They don't know that's where money is. You don't compare a Veterinary Doctor and a Medical Doctor just like you won't want to compare Lemons and Oranges because they're all citruses. Many vets have jobs opened for them but they don't want to do it because of the Empathy of animals. Some wise ones go on into Fish Farming and earn nothing less than 500k personal income after settlement of workers. What of Poultry? What of Porcine Farming? I Know wan talk too much sha. A Vet in NYSC doesn't teach and earns more than a Nurse and a Pharmacist during service years. Vet Lecturers earn more than Medical College Lecturers because of Risk allowances a lot of it. Vets work in NAQS and other Agencies in Nigeria Case closed, from my side there is nothing to add. Excellent response |

Newdawnk9s: Hello vet, it's me again! I picked up a female Boerboel a month ago @ 7 weeks, took her straight away to the vet, gave her, her 1st dhlpp shot, dewormed her too..I put her on booster dry food, she ate it normally for 3 weeks but few days ago, her appetite dropped..
I thought it was worms so I took her to the vet for her second shot and deworming..
I even bought 4 can food too spicy up the dry food yet, she eats to her little fill and goes back..
She's active and playful and her poo is okay even though it's now once in a day she poos unlike before..
Am just concerned, is everything okay with her?
What should I do for her to regain her appetite fully, please..
Am really doing the best I can regarding her feeding to make sure she turns out great.. First of all, Sir I want you to put your mind at rest, it happens like that at times due to many factors like change in environment, change in feed or even symptom of disease. Therefore in other to rule out all alternatives and put our minds at rest, I'll advice you to fix a day for a general medical check-up by your Vet. I'll be on standby. CommandosKennel: Good evening sir, she's a +3 months old female Lhasa.
Just came back from the vet today, they massaged the leg and administered some pain relief medicine.
Your advice will be highly appreciated sir. Good evening sir, I'm so sorry for the late response, today was extremely hectic. It was a good decision you took by going to the Vet. What you just need to do now, is to keep your dog in a cool and warm place, avoid stress to the affected area and give food rich in Calcium and other minerals like fish, meat and vegetables etc. You can occasionally exercise your dog when your dog gets relieved. Please be my guest anytime |

CommandosKennel: Good morning sir.
Please we have on our hands, a case of a 3 months old toy breed who was successfully treated for Parvo and is making good recovery.
However, the dog often limps like something is wrong with her right hind leg. When touched and massaged, she cries out in pain and possibly turns for a bite. She used to be jumpy and always running around but nowadays she is always seen lying down and seldomly wants to run unless when she can't help it. She even drags her hind legs on the ground sometimes and this is becoming worrisome.
We have contacted the vet who treated her and explained her present condition but he seems not to have a solution for her.
Please what can we do so this dog won't end up disabled? I'm so sorry sir, don't worry everything is going to be fine, please which other symptoms are you observing? |

Pets › Re: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH(op): 6:23pm On Feb 26, 2021 |
GucciX: Thank you Doctor for your feedback. I took her to the vet and the Doctor gave her some injections and also a drip. When I brought her home, she was able to pee which she hasn't done in the past 24 hours.
She still doesn't eat, she won't take even water and she hasn't pass any stool yet since yesterday Night. She just lies down.
Case 2:
My male GSD puppy also had a bloaty stomach so i took him and my female to the vet yesterday. She said she suspects worms. But she said she needs to release some fluid from his tummy. She used a syringe to inject the abdomen n drew out some fluid upto 5 syringe full. The puppy kept moving so she had to stop. She den gave him injection to make him be peeing out the fluid and administer dewormer to the puppy.
Later in the evening i noticed the place she gave the injection has swollen up with free fluid. I took him and the female puppy today. She tried to free the fluid but it wasn't coming out so she gave him same injection to make the puppy pee.
Now there is more free fluid dangling down his tummy.
Doctor at this point I am really worried about my two puppies Sorry for the late response sir at this juncture you'll have to be patient. Please next time ask the name of the injection that your Vet wants to administer, it's your right to know!!!, although I presume a diuretic. Let's be patient and be observant. I'll dm my WhatsApp contact to your incaase of emergency and follow up. I'm so sorry once more. |

She has not pee for 24 hours now Good morning sir, at this juncture, you'll have to take her to the hospital for her to be placed on admission and constant observation. I'm suspecting the abdominal distention and accompanying pain is affecting the breathing. Once you get there update me, I'll be on standby |

GucciX: Hello Doc. My GSD pup refused to eat since on Tuesday. Yesterday Wednesday evening I came back home only to here she has been vomiting and her stoll is black and watery.
I contactedy vet and she tolde to administer ORT using syringe which I did. The PUp survive and made it to the morning today. In the morning she could even walk on her own. But I still took her to the vet.
The Vet took blood and stool samples for test. Then she said she will give some drugs and injection to relieve her a little.
She gave her multivitamin, dewormer and one other drug. Den gave her two different injection. One of the injection is brownish in color.
Her tummy is looking a little swollen up.
My pup is still not responding Doctor. Please see the attached picture for her stool.
I have also attached the pictures of the drugs given Good evening Sir, and I'm very sorry about the above. Firstly, I'll want you to put your mind at rest. In order to avoid misdiagnosis, I'll be very happy if you can share with us other problems you observed. Also have you complained to the Vet who administered those drugs and what did he say?. Although I'm tempted to still suspect worm infestation due to the above signs (esp distended abdomen and melena), I'll withhold that for now till I get the complete picture. Please ensure you respond ASAP, I'll be on standby. |

I kind of like the barking but now that she is pregnant, how do I handle her so that she will not lose the pregnancy with the continues barking and running around Good evening Sir, it's very natural for your dog to back but at the same time, I understand your concerns which are valid. If you want to reduce her barking, you'll have to first keep her in a cool and quiet environment then remove any source of nuisance that can agitate her and induce barking. I'm positive it would go a long way in helping reduce barking. |
