ambient:Since you aren't seeing other symptoms, then you have nothing to fear. BTW, have you dewormed or vaccinated your dog? |
ambient:Not at all. What is the texture of the poo and what other symptoms are you seeing? This will guide me in assisting you better |
ambient:In that case, it will be better you go for a broad spectrum prophylaxis antibiotics like amoxicillin and please ensure you complete the dosage to avoid antibiotics resistance. |

Of course although some are contraindicated in animals. If I may ask which aliment are you trying to treat, so that I can recommend a safe drug |
Myiasis (Mango fly infestion) Introduction A condition where flies lay eggs in a living animal or human's skin or cavities and the hatching eggs eat the surrounding flesh is called myiasis. This can be detected in eyes, ears, nose, mouth, skin, alimentary tract, and urogenitals. Causes When some flies like mango fly, bow fly lay eggs on a living host or materials worn by the host Species affected All vertebrate animals including humans Symptoms 1) Small reddish swellings 2) Bad odour from the affected area 3) Pus on the affected area 4) Weakness 5) You might even see the worm coming out Diagnosis The diagnosis of myiasis is made by the finding of fly egg in the tissue. Treatment Treatment is based on the manual removal of the egg, blocking the respiration of the eggs (some people use palm oil) and/or using egg antiparasitics chemicals. The eggs must be mechanically removed without breaking them. This needs clipping the hair around the area for better visibility and healing. The damaged area is then cleansed thoroughly. Removing dead tissues aids the healing process and antibiotics may be administered if necessary. Prevention To ensure prevention, environmental conditions should be clean and dry. No fecal or urine contamination of the hair coat is allowed. Any damaged skin should be treated carefully and weak animals kept indoors. Regular grooming and daily handling the dogs will reveal the myiasis quickly, and the treatment can be started without delay. For humans, ensure clothes spread outside are properly ironed before use |
harmargedon:Get an ascaricidal bath, like armitraz or cypermetrin and bath your dog with it. You can then supplement with Ivermectin in order to destroy the parasite from within. For prevention, ensure a clean and dry environment with regular vitamin supplements. |
harmargedon:Ectoparasites |
omobaba101:Of course she can, but remember, it's not ordinary milk she should give, rather she should give specially formulated milk for pups. I hope this helps |
logadims:No problem |
logadims:follow me on nairaland, so that I'll be able to inbox my WhatsApp contact detail to you. |
logadims:Of course with pleasure, just give the format and other necessary informations |
bodija:You're always welcome sir, hope your dog is okay now? |
Emmanuelmosaku:Sir, if it were possible for me to dash you a thousand likes, sincerely I would do so. in fact I had to review all your post and give each a like. God bless you sir. You took the word out of my mouth. It is attitudes like this that makes them fall into the hand of quacks. Imagine here on Nairaland, someone claimed he could treat parvo for less than 500 naira, and a lot of people followed him !!!!!! |
bodija:Good morning sir, please don't ever try that, I used to do that too before our surgery lecturer warned us against it, that it "cooks" the wound especially if its in powdered form. What you should rather do is this; 1) Debride the wound by cleaning with mild soap and cotton wool, some people use hydrogen peroxide, but hydrogen peroxide is corrosive hence not advisable 2) Then spray the wound with oxytet spray or apply GV to the wound I will inbox you my WhatsApp contact, for further assistance. I hope this helps |

I'm so sorry ma, this case its a very simple issue. What you'll do, is what we call "negative reinforcement", each time your dog bites anyone even if its playful, inflict pain (not excessive on your dog but slight beating with a cane or slight pinching), overtime your dog would learn to associate biting of your kids with pain, and because pain is undesirable to your dog, your dog would gradually stop the bad habit. I hope this helps!!! |
lildavey:The best is the use of cypermetrin plus ivermectin injection. |
lildavey:I'm so sorry, why not simply get an acaricidal bath solution and bath your dog with it, and in addition ivermectin inj by your vet or a trained professional. You can also get fipronil spray for prophylaxis |
harmargedon:Abdominocentesis by an untrained personnel is NOT FIRST AID, it is dangerous and can complicate the case. Can you vouch for the sterility of the needle, can you vouch for fidelity of the location to puncture. Please let's not encourage what is not simply because its an animal. Can you advise him to perform abdominocentesis on his sibling or family member? |
davidhartley:Sorry bro, but you are advising a client without veterinary knowledge to conduct abdominocentesis ? |
Habaaa my brother, I was simply doing my duty, all glory is to God alone. But thanks all the same for the appreciation |

MarveworldNG:To my people saying autopsy, do you all know that autopsy may not be her saving grace but can even put her in more trouble. There are some disease conditions that can be aggravated by consuming a particular type of food or drink. My people, if that is the case, autopsy would simply show that he died of condition XYZ after consumption of food ABC, which happens to be from her restaurant. Although this shouldn't be an issue, since there was no way she could have known, but trust Nigerian police, they are likely to make an issue out of it and if they cannot not pin murder on the fiancée, they may attempt to pin manslaughter. In this case what you need is a VERY good lawyer, if not !!!!!! |
olatuneji:That is the vaccination schedule below, there may be slight variation, depending on the Vet and other peculiar conditions 6 — 8 weeks Distemper, parvovirus 10 — 12 weeks DHPP (vaccines for distemper, adenovirus [hepatitis], parainfluenza, and parvovirus) 16 — 18 weeks DHPP, rabies 12 — 16 months DHPP, rabies Every 1-3 years- Rabies Every 1-2 years- DHPP |
I'm so sorry sir, but from my observation, your dog is not well. If you look around the eye area, you could see areas of alopecia and the coat is rough and gradual emaciation. First I'll like to know if you've dewormed? If you have then I'll advice you to treat ectoparasitic infestation and support with Vit B complex and Vitamin C and let's watch the outcome. I hope this helps |
olatuneji:Congratulations in advance sir, having a dog is a very wonderful experience but for you to enjoy this experience several factors has to be in place. First of all, you should ask yourself, why do you want to have a dog? is it for companionship, security or breeding business? That will determine the managemental system you want to use, for example intensive, semi intensive etc. The next thing is the dog's welfare, Our professor in school used to tell us that "what is convenient for you is also convenient for animals and vice versa, always put these animals in your shoes and you'll get the best out of them". Hence you must vaccinate, in order to prevent them from vaccinable diseases like parvo, rabies etc (I'll send you the vaccine schedule later). The price of the vaccine varies and I can't use my clinic to judge since the vaccines there are heavily subsidized (Government owned clinic). But if you want to vaccinate, I'll advice you go to a Government owned vet hospital (Its cheaper and safer). Then you must also deworm, in order to prevent intestinal parasites (worms) which may cause harm to your pet, deworming is very cheap but ensure you use Albendazole based dewormers like worm off® etc. Lastly if you follow all the above points and in addition keeping your environment clean with your pet eating a good and nourishing foods with regular checkups by a vet, God willing you will raise an healthy dog that won't give you hassles. I hope this helps |
Jackonsy:Okay then |
Jackonsy:You can follow me so that I'll DM my number to you, or you can drop it here, I'll add you. |
Jackonsy:It is possible sir, depending on its genetic makeup, but personally to me, this pup looks older than 3 weeks (I may be wrong though) |
peterbello:Sincerely my brother I now understand, especially the last part. But I also want you to know, that as Veterinarians our priority is a save life and minimize suffering of animals. Our methods of treatment are not subjective or speculative but based on tested and trusted methods under the guidance of learned professionals. If a qualified Veterinarian tells you ivermectin inj is the best based on the situation on ground, you just have to take it like that because legally my brother you don't have the right to prefer and come on social media to show your preference as the best, its only a vet that can do that, which is even subjected to ratification by senior colleagues. You can only discuss your preference with your vet and he/she may find a way around it. |
peterbello:My dear brother, you have been corrected by a qualified professional, simply gain knowledge and move on. Read my post again, I never said Rambo is not effective against ectoparasites, what I said was that the formulation of Rambo as an insecticide is not designed for topical use rather for use on inanimate objects because of the high concentration of permethrin in it, which can be dangerous to your pet if applied topically. But if you insist that permethrin is harmless, next time your neighbour's child has scabies or lice, advice him or her to buy Rambo powder and rub it all over the child's body or you can spray a whole can of any insecticide of your choice (rambo, baygon etc) lock the windows and doors and stay inside and let's see the outcome. The reason I used Sniper as an example was to show the possibility of insecticides causing harm by passing through the skin. Legally I'm not supposed to have this argument with you except you a qualified veterinarian but for the sake of preventing innocent pet owners from falling victim I decided to engage you. |
peterbello:My dear brother, your preference is subjective, and my duty as a Veterinarian is to proffer standard solutions based on generally accepted treatment methods which has been tested and trusted. I still insist that I have never heard of Ivermectin bath (dissolving Ivermectin in water) as preferred method over injection, that is even if it exists. In pharmacology, the fastest and most effective route of drug administration is via injection (IV/IM/SC). Hence your preference does not change the efficacy. Please let's be guided to avoid misleading the public. |
peterbello:My dear brother, please don't mislead innocent pet owners based on speculation. Permetrin is a dangerous chemical if used indiscriminately. The concentration of permethrin in Rambo powder is very high because its not designed for topical use rather for use over inanimate objects. When you apply Rambo powder on your pet, you run the risk of your dog licking the raw powder, you run the risk of your pet inhaling it, you run the risk of it been absorbed into the your dog's skin at lethal doses especially if there is an open wound/ bruise leading to it getting absorbed directly into the blood stream, all these can lead to neurological effects which may include convulsion, coma or even death. I hope you remembered the case of the girl whose mother attempted to used sniper to kill lice on her hair and ended up killing the girl !!!. Please to the general public let's follow due process with regards treating our pets and avoid short cuts. |
