Sir my sister is scared of my puppy.she doesn't let it come close to her due to the fear...last night my puppy got to her while she was leaning on a_wall,She jumped to run off but stepped on the pup,it began to cry and when i_checked the pain was from his Fore hand finger MIDDLE it seems kindda swollen...sir pls wat should i_do?
Good morning Sir, just simply put your mind at rest, its not an issue, it would resolve on its own. If the pain is becoming unbearable, you can simply administer a mild over the counter analgesic, so sorry for the late response.

good morning sir , my female Caucasian has been battling with mange for a really long time now (over 12 months ) , we have used ivermectin, amitrax , kernel oil , ivermectin tablets , mange cream like charmil and the rest . The mange is severe behind her forelimb , like the hard kind of mange ...but it appears as rashes on her belly . Her furs aren't even growing well .

Lol my complaints is really long though but I will try to make it brief .

So it started when she was about 4 months , I wasn't at home then but it wasn't even severe . We started treatment immediately , she recovered for a while B4 it started again , this is how it continued for 8 months : on and off . We fumigated the compound and it still didn't change anything . The funny thing is my two other dogs haven't been treated for mange but they all play together like always !! 3 months ago , someone suggested that it might be an allergy , that I should stop giving her the locally made meal cause it contains soya bean , I stopped and she really recovered , she was in like the best shape in a long while ; she gained lots of weight , her furs were getting better , no sign of mange on her body again expect the hard one behind her forelimb ( even that one was clearing off when I started using charmill ) .
But now , it's back ! And she's so slim , thin and she eats a lot. Like I feed her 2-3 times daily .

I don't even know what to do anymore , I she gone to the vet multiple times already . Tbh I thj k I might just sell her off or give her up for adoption and focus on my other dogs . Sometimes I think the mange is in her blood or something lol
Good morning sir, and I'm really sorry and I promise to give this case my utmost attention. We would be aggressive in our treatment plan. First I would need pictures for my own observation and then I would give you my number for further consultation. Let me assure you that God willing all would be well, please put your mind at rest.

Habaaa!!!, its not like that Sir, I believe there are criteria that need to be met which this thread has not possibly met for this thread to enter front page. Hopefully this criteria would be met, so that this thread would have the chance to help a lot of pet owners. Thanks so much for your concern, really appreciate

Sir pls is it true that carrying a_puppy too much reduces its growth
Good morning Sir, It doesn't really affect but may affect his chances of learning how to walk very fast. So reduce the rate of carrying your pup and let him walk more often !!!

Hi name sake, Seun.
Pls I'm a first time female Lhasa owner. Yesterday I discovered something under her anus/tail for the first time, looks like vulva or something. I don't know if she's on heat because I was told that I'm supposed to notice blood stain but yet to. She has never littered before, is it time to look for a male lhasa for mating now? I'm in ph
Its an honor sir. But please I'll be happy if you can snap the area and post it for me to examine objectively. That way I'll have an idea of what is going on and I'll be able to advice you better.

First of all, put your mind at rest. The pain will eventually go away but as I told you earlier, you would need to visit your Vet for general check up and vaccination. So put your mind at rest Sir, all will be well

TomorrowToday:
Sir, my 4 Lhasa puppies who are currently 7 weeks old had tick infestation. The ticks are so tiny that pulling them out is difficult.

This morning, I applied one tick oil I use for the adult dogs on them with plans of bathing them with biozenol acaricide by tomorrow. However, I got a distress call from home by 2 pm that they are all bitting the base of their tails, close to their anus, and crying in severe pain.

The pups had vitamin injection when they were 5 weeks old (their mother was severely sick at that time but she's okay now. She was shaking that time, unable to stand and her tongue was hanging out and plenty of saliva coming out. The vet said is probably heartworm and gave her a series of injection), they were duly vaccinated and dewormed at 6 weeks old. The worm medicine the vet used is BIO-RANTEL.

I asked my sister to give them palm oil, and when I got home, I bath them with Ectovis soap and they seemed a bit relieved before I went back to work.

I later got another call when my sister came back that 3 of the pups are screaming again in pains.

I asked her to dilute some quantity of apple cider vinegar with warm water and clean their body with it. I read online that apple cider vinegar repels ticks

Pls sir what can I do to save my pups pending when the vet doctor comes?
I'm so sorry sir, you've done well with what you've administered, it works. Lime or lemon too can work, even dogonyaro tree (neem extracts) too can also work temporarily. Keep us posted when the vet arrives.

The accompanying symptoms I noticed is that the poop is a bit pasty and the body temperature is a bit high. Apart from that, he eats very well.
Excellent, I'll inbox my number to you, so as to do proper clerking and figure out a way forward. If we confirm its otitis externa, we would first of all clean up the ear to remove all the pus and debris found inside, this would be routinely and then supported with an antibiotic

Good day Doc. My dog was lodged with a friend for 3 days while I was away on a journey. On getting back to pick my dog, I noticed a sort of milky foul smelly discharge from both ears. I would like to seek your advice on what to do to cure this "infection".
I'm so sorry for the delay Sir, today was very hectic. From the above, I'm suspecting Otitis externa, but I won't want to be conclusive not until I get full information. Please if there are other symptoms you are observing, let me know so that we will know the next step!!!

ok sir,pls how can i_effectively teach my puppy basic commands such as Sit,stand and stuffs like that
I'm so sorry for the late response, I've been very busy. You can teach your dog basic commands by using positive reinforcement method. In this method you would motivate your dog to do what you want by giving it his favorite treat as a reward when he does it. It is advisable to give your dog a name first before you start the process. I hope this helps

My dog is on heat but if she passes urine there is blood clot in,please someone should guide me,
I'm so sorry about the condition, as said earlier, you can go for a blood test to ascertain the source of the problem (what cause the blood clot). That would determine your next step, whether to treat UTI or not.

Please sir how quality is bingo dry food for Dogs expecialy puppy.
Good morning sir, personally I have reservations over processed foods because they contain chemicals used as a preservative which will be harmful to your dog on the long run, hence I usually recommend natural food. Bingo dry food according to what was written on the pack seems to be of high quality but some people have equally expressed displeasure with the quality of the dog food and the effect it has on their dog, hence I would say, it's based on individual preference, what works for you may not work for the other person. I hope this helps

Thanks alot sir. The issue of changing to vet has caused serious issues with my siblings because they see many vets in my Area collecting cheap money. It has always been human Medicine or anything related to human health. I told them Veterinary is not all about treating Animals. There is Animal products like meat, milk and other produce.I told them about zoonoses but they said it was too good to be true. I even told them about food inspection which they doubted. It is affecting my reading badly
My dear brother, those "Vets" you are seeing collecting cheap money, are mostly QUACKS. There are some "Vets" who would collect 1,000 naira from you to come to your house to vaccinate your dog!!! even here on Nairaland one even claimed to be able to treat Parvo with just 500 naira, my brother no licensed veterinarian would collect that ridiculous amount, its only a quack that would. I was in a WhatsApp group, where a guy in Rivers state said about 4 "Vets" came to his house to attend to his dog, and I kept wondering where he easily found 4 "Vets" when in the whole Niger-Delta region there isn't a single Vet school!!!. My brother this is one of the major issues we are dealing with, but I can assure you that all hands are on deck to address it. I want you to also know that; 'A profession which is not lucrative, does not have quacks'. FINALLY, I want you to remain focused, your are not in this world to please everybody and the grass is not greener on the other side, every profession has its own peculiar challenges. I also faced challenges till I got here and it wasn't easy, it would interest you to know that I had a degree in Anatomy (BSc) before I studied Vet medicine. I'll inbox my number to you, so we can talk better and I can further assist you in anyway I can. Cheers

I am an Aspiring vet And I want to be a large animal vet. What is your take
Good morning sir, before I responded to your question, I did a quick background check on your previous posts and found your journey to Vet med very interesting. Before I respond to your question, Sir permit me to digress a bit. Vet medicine is a very lucrative and knowledge exposing profession (as a Vet, you would learn so much about everything, and that gives you an edge in life). But we have two major issues in this profession namely; 1) STEREOTYPING 2) QUACKERY

STEREOTYPING: Most people know very little about the Veterinary profession, hence tend to pass judgement based on hearsays and speculations. Hence you will hear things like; if you study Vet med, you'll be poor, Is it someone that has not eaten that would care about animals?, Nigerians don't care about animals, We don't have Vet clinics in Nigeria, Where do you want to work as a Vet, etc. Hence a lot of people get misled and I'm sad to tell you, this really affected Vet medicine's cut off points all over Nigerian universities and the psyche of students aspiring to be Vets. It would interest you to know that we earn THE SAME THING as our human counterpart, THE SAME ENTRY LEVEL as our human counterpart, which is generally higher than any other medical profession in Nigeria, but how many people knows thathuh Sir if Vet med was as bad as some people say, I don't think the government would be stupid enough to approve the above.

QUACKERY: Due to lucrativeness of the Veterinary profession, Many non-vets have seen Veterinary practice as a quick way of making money via quackery and the result has been disastrous. Although succor is on the way as the VCN has introduced a Unified Veterinary ID card, this I believe would go a long way in curbing quackery.

FINALLY, On your question, large animal practice is largely based on location. For example in the south, small animal practice is more lucrative than large animal, while in the north, reverse is the case. In large animal practice, its better you are attached to a farm than for individual consultancy because most large animal owners are not quite rich and their payment for services is relative to the cost of the animal, hence you can't perform a 50,000 naira procedure on a goat of 15,000-20,000 naira, as a result may not be that lucrative except you are attached to an animal farm where they have a lot of these animals. I hope I've been able to do justice to your question and please feel free to engage me on further questions on any grey area.

Pls sir,my Lil sister backed they door but my puppys hand was inbetween but she quickly opened it and now my pup can't just walk real fine, what should i_do,will it heal on its own??
Good evening sir, I'm so sorry for what happened, but the information you gave me is kind of sketchy. I'll prefer you gave me a more detailed information on the situation, for example; is the area swollen? how painful is the area? etc. This would guide us in knowing the next step, for example, if there is a fracture or not. If the injury is not too severe, a mild analgesic and antiinflammatory would suffice or you can even allow it resolve on its own. I'll be on standby for further assistance. I hope this helps?

Ok sir..pls sir wanted to ask what range do puppies generally begins to bark
It depends on the breed and genetic makeup. Barking is not a sudden process, its a gradual process which usually starts around 7/8 weeks till around 16 weeks. I hope this helps !!!

Tnx but i_just found out that there are no ticks in its fur or inside his ears, butt, tommy or anywhere....btw I've another question...my pup is 5weeks today, when can it begin to bark cause she hasn't barked b4 she only growls at times
My dear friend, my sincere advice is still for you to visit a vet clinic, if you've not visited. Your dog is still very young and needs a comprehensive medical check up and vaccination. As for the barking, be patient and give it time, although you can express your concerns during check up to the vet. If after that still no progress, we will figure out the next step.

Companionship. It won't be bad seeing the mini her(pups) running round
I get, if that be the case, then I'll personally advice ma that you should avoid mating. But if you feel you can bear the risk and cost, then there is no problem. But it should however be noted that, in dogs with this condition, the risk of complications is very high and CS is usually inevitable.

Thanks I appreciate.
I have a miniature Lhasa she's not taller than a coke bottle
She always have complications during pups birth
I think her vulva is too small.
Presently, she's on heat and I'm considering if I should still go ahead to mate her.
I understand perfectly ma, We would have to weigh the pros and the cons. Did you get your dog specifically for breeding? or for companionship? or the two? The answer would guide us on the way forward. Due to the complications she is always having during birth, personally I would discourage mating, except under strict medical supervision throughout the duration of the pregnancy. But let me know your opinion so that we can work out something.
PetsRe: Talk To A Veterinarian by seunH(op): 10:50am On Jan 01, 2021
CrazyCrane:
Sir, can you kindly estimate the cost for CS in small breed
Happy new year ma. In a standard vet hospital, you would be spending close to a 100,000 naira. This is the break down:
Hysterotomy (The main surgery) 50,000
Hematinics (Blood supplements)15,000
Vitamin supplements 5,000
Elizabethan collar 7,000
Post surgical management 15,000
TOTAL 92,000

#NOTE: It may vary according to Location, but the price I quoted above is the standard price. I hope this helps!!!
