while i comiserate with the families of those who lost their lives, i feel this is welcome news - what is there to celebrate? no light, no jobs, no water, bad roads etc, yet some foolish politicians feel there is something to sit around and celebrate - it's a pity innocent people had to loose their lives in this |
this is the highest point of stupidity - before we cast blames on the pastor, one thing is very clear, the lady in question is just trying to use the pastor to cover up for her foolishness - she herself is to blame and nobody else - not even God - if she never really wanted any of the men who came her way that is why she was willing to accept her pastor's advice - if she really wanted them, she would have ignored her pastor's advice long time ago - she never wanted to settle down and she was looking for an accomplice who would rub her back and encourage her in her foolishness and her pastor proved to be a willing accomplice - now turning the blame on him is pure hypocrisy - i hate to say it but it sounds like she deserves what she is getting ![]() |

Gov Akala Stops Teachers’ Salary For Snubbing Rally print print Author: Date: Sep 27th, 2010. | Category: National, News. | Follow comments: RSS 2.0. | You can leave a response below. | The Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala seized August salary of all the secondary school teachers in Oyo State because their representatives did not turn up at the venue of his declaration for the second term in office to show him solidarity. Adebayo Alo Akala, Oyo State governor. P.M.NEWS gathered that the governor had earlier vowed not to pay the teachers’ June and July salaries because they were on strike but promised to release their August salary on Thursday, September 23. This was not to be as the governor was very enraged that the National Union of Teachers, NUT, Oyo State Chapter was absent at the venue where he ‘hearkened to the wishes of Oyo State people’ to run for the second term. Our reporter further gathered the governor, who was not comfortable with the payment of 27.5 per cent increment the teachers were agitating for, had increased the tax of the teachers tremendously. For instance, it was revealed that the teachers that were paying N2000 had their tax increased to N4000 while principals are made to pay as much as N11,000. Efforts to get government reaction proved abortive. Prominent indigenes of the State had been at loggerheads with the governor over his ambition to go for a second term in office. Their feelings of resentment arose because of the poor performance of the governor in the last three and half years. —Femi Anjorin |
Pastor Adefarasin: Nigeria On The Brink Of War print print Author: Date: Sep 27th, 2010. | Category: News, Today's Headlines. | Follow comments: RSS 2.0. | You can leave a response below. | Barely five days to Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary, the senior pastor of House On The Rock, Paul Adefarasin, has warned that the country may soon become a war zone and disintegrate. Paul Adefarasin Adefarasin, yesterday, told worshippers in his church at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, South West Nigeria, where he preached, that he has been informed that well armed Al Qaeda militants and Jihadists are in the country waiting to strike. “A foreign diplomat told me a few days ago that Al Qaeda militants and Jihadists are in the country with ballistic missiles, AK47 rifles and all kinds of weapons. And they are waiting for a justification to their ideology to strike,” Adefarasin told his congregation. He warned that the 2011 general elections, if not well handled, may give foreign militants the justification they want to strike and send millions of Nigerians into asylum. “We cannot sit down and allow our nation continue to disintegrate and become a war-torn zone. We are probably a few steps from that. “I don’t want my children to grow up in a nation that they cannot call a nation state anymore,” Adefarasin said. He said that if Christians allow “the evil men to continue in power or take over power, we will soon be refugees in Cameroon, Benin Republic, the Gambia and even Ghana.” “In the last 15 years, I have told you things that came to pass. If nothing is done now, I can tell you that in the next five years, only those with British or American passports will survive,” he said. Adefarasin called on Christians to register and vote in the next election, instead of doing nothing and expect miracles. He said that he has been assigned by the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) to sensitise Christians in the country toward being part of the next election. “Pastors in this church who do not register or vote will be marginalized and may even lose their influence in the Church,” he said. |

In another development, a former head of state and presidential aspirant of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), General Muhammadu Buhari, on Wednesday, visited the General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to seek support for his ambition to run for presidency in 2011. Buhari, who had a closed door meeting for one hour with Pastor Adeboye, said the visit was part of his political moves to seek support and understanding of religious and community leaders ahead of the election. “This is not the first time I will be visiting the pastor. My duty is to go round and see men of God and urge them to pray for the success of the elections and to also seek their understanding and support. This is what I have done and I am very happy about the response to our request,” he said. Commenting on the plan to change the election timetable to April by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Buhari said it was a welcome decision, adding that it would reduce rigging. http://allafrica.com/stories/201009230658.html |

The source said that the Prime Minister, who has been in power tussle with President Robert Gabriel Mugabe, is visiting Joshua’s church to seek spiritual help ahead of the Presidential election in Zimbabwe. The leader of the Movement for Democratic Change, MDC, arrived the country yesterday with some of his family members and security details, the source said. “Just like the President of Ghana who came to Synagogue Church to seek the face of God during the election in his country, the Zimbabwe Prime Minister is also at the Synagogue Church to seek the face of God. “There is an election coming up in Zimbabwe soon and as you know the Synagogue Church is a place of refuge for presidents and African nations in times of trouble, especially troubling elections. “The Prime Minister arrived with his family members. His daughter is here and there are also security details that came with him,” the source said. Since 2000, the Mugabe-led government embarked on a controversial fast-track land reform programme intended to correct the inequitable land distribution created by colonial rule. Mugabe’s policies have been condemned in some quarters at home and abroad, especially receiving harsh criticism from the British and American governments because they said that the policies often led to violent land seizure. Inflation in Zimbabwe is one of the worst in the world. In 2008, his party suffered a tight defeat in national parliamentary elections, but after disputed presidential elections, Mugabe retained presidential power with the signing of a power-sharing deal with opposition leaders Morgan Tsvangirai and Arthur Mutambara of the MDC-T and MDC-M opposition party. —Simon Ateba |
sometimes ago, a friend in my workplace discovered that his wife of 7 years had just completed a three storey building in a choice area in lagos. This friend of mine was barely managing to maintain his family and children with the meagre salary he was earning and the wife always claimed she was broke whenever my friend asked her for financial assistance. it was a great suprise to him when he now realised that his wife had been building a property somewhere without letting in her husband on it - needless to say, the marriage is now hitting a rocky patch as i write this, as the man is threatning to walk out on the woman saying he caannot trust her again and she is evil for hiding such a big project from him. The wife is running helter-skelter trying to find people to help them mend their marriage before it breaks down finally men what would you do if you found yourself in this situation? ![]() |
Nigeria @ 50: ACN asks FG to withdraw ‘beggarly’ letter for N401m By Mudiaga Affe Wednesday, 1 Sep 2010 View All (43) Comment(s) Post Comment Send to friend The Action Congress of Nigeria on Tuesday asked the Federal Government to withdraw its letter, to 17 major companies in the country, soliciting donations to fund advert placements on Nigeria’s 50th independence anniversary celebration in an international newspaper, the International Herald Tribune. The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the withdrawal of the letter should be followed up with an apology to Nigerians for the embarrassment caused by the “ill-thought-out letter.” It wondered why the government would want to “sell the country‘s sovereignty” for such a paltry sum—N401m— just because it wanted to project Nigeria’s image in the International Herald Tribune. The ACN advised the companies not to succumb to the subtle attempt to armtwist them into contributing money that would, in the end, not be properly accounted for. THE PUNCH had reported exclusively on Monday, that the Director-General, Nigeria @ 50 Dr. B.K. Kaigama, met with representatives of 10 major firms, which he had earlier written to soliciting for funds. The firms are Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited, Chevron, Mobil Producing Nigeria Limited, Nigeria LNG Limited, Total E & P Nigeria Limited, Globacom Limited, MTN Nigeria, Dangote Group, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Company Limited and S.C.C Nigeria Limited. Kaigama had in the letter to the companies explained that the special publications in the IHT were to promote Nigeria on the global stage during the milestone event. The Federal Government had provided N10bn in a supplementary budget to take care of expenses for the Nigeria @ 50 celebration, but it was slashed to N6.37bn by the National Assembly following public criticisms. But the ACN, in the statement that was made available to our correspondent, said, “Several African nations, most of them less endowed than Nigeria, have been celebrating their 50th independence anniversary this year, but we have not heard that they went cap-in-hand begging multinationals in their countries to foot the bills for their celebrations. “We are even more confounded at the beggarly posture of the Federal Government, especially because huge funds have been earmarked for the celebration, which is shaping up as an unnecessary jamboree at a time our citizens are facing untold hardship and are dying from preventable diseases like cholera and measles.” Denouncing the government’s action as “frivolous and indefensible,” the party said “the government should have cut its coat according to its cloth if it knew it could not finance the anniversary jamboree.” It added, “This is a reflection of the kind of wastage of funds for which our successive governments have become notorious around the world. “In the first instance, what are we going to be advertising at such huge costs that the world does not yet know about us? Of what use is such an advert? How does it enhance the golden jubilee celebration? Did anyone hear of the US, with all its strong economy, advertising in the IHT during its 200th anniversary? “We have said before, when we criticised the plan to hold a big conference in London as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations, that the anniversary calls for a sober reflection, not the wastage of scarce public funds on frivolities, especially since the dream – at independence in 1960 - of making Nigeria a great nation, has become a nightmare, 50 years on.‘‘ It said the “beggarly letter” must be ranked on the same “level of infamy” as the one by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yayale Ahmed. Ahmed had written political appointees, asking them to pay five per cent of their basic salaries to the People‘s Democratic Party while in office. |
Yobo to join West Ham | Print | E-mail Tuesday, 31 August 2010 NIGERIA defender, Joseph Yobo will join up with fellow Super Eagles star Obinna Nsofor at English Premier League side West Ham on a six-month loan from Everton. Yobo teamed up with Everton in 2002 on loan from Olympique Marseille. The 29-year-old Yobo has lost his place in the Everton first team and has not hidden his desire to quit the Goodison Park outfit as a result. Babalola had immediately after handing over to HajiaYabawa Lawani Wali, his successor in the Ministry of Finance, asked for permission to embark on his accumulated leave. P.M.NEWS gathered that Babalola immediately travelled out to the United Kingdom and returned to the country over the weekend. It was gathered that he took the decision to pull out of President Goodluck Jonathan’s cabinet while he was in the UK. P.M.NEWS was unable to confirm if the Preisdency has received the resignation letter of Babalola as at the time of writing this story. Calls and text messages to Ima Niboro, spokesperson to President Jonathan seeking confirmation of the informatiom were unanswered. However, sources close to the former Executive Director of First Bank confirmed that he has indeed decided to leave the cabinet. Babalola who was appointed as minister of state for finance ran into trouble following his statement that the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is insolvent at the meeting of the Federation Account Allocation Committee, FAAC held in Abuja on 13, July. Ironically, Babalola had relied on a letter from the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Austen Oniwon in making the claim. Babalola had told the FAAC meeting which includes state commissioners of finance that he received a letter from the NNPC GMD on why the corporation has not been able to remit the N450 billion it should have remitted to the federation acoount since last year. The statement made by Babalola that led him into trouble is as follows: “At the close of business yesyterday, my office received a letter signed by the Group Managing Director of NNPC wherein the following positions were posited among others by the Corporation: NNPC is facing financial difficulties evidenced by amongst others, the inability to pay for domestic crude as at when due and delays in settling bills for fuel imports. The financial difficulties stem from disequilibrium between costs and cash flow.” He added that NNPC’s current liabilities exceed current assets by N754 billion as at December 31, 2008. This revelations by Babalola was said to have embarrased the NNPC and the Federal Government as it elicited immediate enqiuries about the state of finance of the regulator of the Nigerian oil industry across the globe. “We cannot be classified as insolvent when we have a healthy cash flow and we can pay for our crude and product import obligations,” Levi Ajuonuma, spokesperson of NNPC said in denial of Babalola’s assertions though the minister had relied on a letter from the corporation in making the claims. But the sign that Babalola may have talked himself into trouble became more glaring the next day when the Federal Government disowned the ministers’ statement after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council. While briefing reporters after the the FEC meeting, Communications Minister, Dora Akuyili, said: “NNPC does not have solvency issues”. Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Finance corroborated Akunyili’s statement, insisting that “NNPC is a going concern, it is involved in all joint ventures we have in the country, it is involved with all IOCs, we still have all the wells and other parastatals related to the NNPC.” The strong denial of Babalola statement concerning NNPC had sparked off speculations that Babalola’s days as a minister in the cabinet may be over as he may be sacked for putting the government in an embarrassing situation. But rather than sack him, President Jonathan deployed the minister to Special Duties Ministry on 11 August. Though as substantive minister in his new post, the Special Duty minister is generally considered to be a glorified messenger at the beck and call of the President for any available job. Certainly, for Babalola who as Minister of State for Finance had the responsibility of supervising niche government parastatals like the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Investments and Securities Tribunal (IST), National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) and Nigerian Import Export Bank (NEXIM) in addition to chairing the monthly meeting of FAAC, the redeployment was considered a demotion. We gathered that this was one of the major reasons for his decision to quit the cabinet. It was also gathered that the banker turned minister may have been disappointed that he was punished for reiterating an information that is already in the public domain about NNPC. —Oluokun Ayorinde/Abuja |

Nsorfor joins West Ham! Sports Aug 25, 2010 Share | Reports from Sky Sports News yesterday claimed that Nigerian and Inter Milan striker Victor Obinna has had a medical at West Ham. It was reported earlier this week that the Hammers were in talks with Obinna over personal terms. And an agreement has now been reached with the 23-year-old undergoing a medical on Wednesday at Upton Park. Hammers boss Avram Grant is desperate to bolster his attacking options after seeing his side score just once in their first two Premier League games and then scrape past Oxford in the Carling Cup. Grant turned to Obinna after being forced to put his efforts to sign Machester City’s Felipe Caicedo on hold and Inter were willing to loan out the Nigeria international. The former Chievo frontman went close to a move to Everton two years ago only for work permit problems to scupper the deal. He has scored 11 goals in 34 internationals for Nigeria and played two games at this summer’s World Cup before scoring once in Inter’s 3-0 friendly win over Manchester City in the USA earlier this month. |
