Armed-robbers rob star actress, Funke Akindele By Samuel Olatunji Sunday, October 17, 2010 Dare devil-armed robbers, last week, robbed star actress, Funke Akindele at gun point in Ojodu area of Lagos. The popular actress, popularly known as ‘Jenifa’ was returning home from a visit and was in the car with some people when the armed men double-crossed her car and demanded that she handed over her valuables or risk being shot. The actress, it was learnt, promptly obeyed and gave the sons of the gun her Blackberry phones and a bag full of money. One of the armed men who recognized her later threw a bundle of N50 000 into the car saying: ‘Jenifa, use that one to take care of yourself’. Funke was said to have been visibly shaken after the encounter and left the venue thanking God that her life was spared. A close aide of the actress told Showbiz Now that the actress is still in a state of shock, lamenting the loss of enormous contacts and an undisclosed amount of money. ‘Funke cannot talk much now o. She is still in shock but grateful no one was hurt in the car’. The actress, we learnt, has also postponed the premiere of her highly anticipated movie, Omo Ghetto which was to take place at the National Arts Theatre on October 24. The reason behind the postponement is still unclear and no one can say for sure if the robbery incident has anything to do with it. https://www.sunnewsonline.com.nyud.net/images/funke-akindele.jpg http://www.sunnewsonline.com/webpages/features/showpiece/2010/oct/17/showpiece-17-10-2010-002.htm |
MTNFootball.com can exclusively reveal that several months after the World Cup in South Africa, some Super Eagles stars are still counting their losses, which will now include $15,000-Rolex watches they snapped up from one of the assistant coaches of the team. A top team official has now informed MTNFootball.com that some of the country’s top stars are yet to pay up for the watches, while some others have been left grumbling about the quality of the Rolex they bought from the outspoken team official. It is understood that the players picked up the watches partly to warm their way into the heart of the assistant coach in question and so safe guard their places in the squad to the World Cup. They also made the purchase in expectation of a huge financial windfall at the World Cup, which unfortunately did not come to pass after they crashed out of the tournament in the first round by managing only a draw with South Korea. “The players made at least $60,000-a-man at the Nations Cup in Angola and they believed they would make even more at the World Cup, and that was why some of them agreed to pick up those watches,” disclosed the team official. “But unfortunately, that was not the case as the World Cup was not as financially rewarding as the Nations Cup for them. The problem now is that some of them are yet to pay up for these watches, while some have told me they would rather give back the watches as they are not what they really like.” The official added: “This is yet another case of why our local coaches are not up to the task of handling the national team. How can you discipline a player who just paid you $15,000 for something that may not really be worth it? “This again brings up the need for a code of conduct for players, coaches and officials in the training camp of the national teams. This would spell out what a player or coach can do and what he cannot do when he is with any of the national teams. Were this code of conduct in place, no coach or official would have been selling Rolex watches to the players at the World Cup.” One of the players named in the purchase of the watch simply told MTNFootball.com: “I don’t wish to discuss it. |
Caf chief Hayatou out of hospital Caf president Issa Hayatou Issa Hayatou's health has been a source of concern in recent years Issa Hayatou, the president of the Confederation of African Football (Caf), has left hospital after his collapse at a conference in Cairo. The 64-year-old felt unwell on Thursday evening and was taken to hospital in the Egyptian capital for tests. He was kept in overnight for observation. "The condition of Hayatou is very good," Caf media director Suleiman Habuba told the BBC on Friday. "He was released today just after midday." Habuba said Hayatou's collapse was because of stress and fatigue after the 'big effort' he had made in the last few days to prepare for the World Cup conference. Football officials from both Fifa and Caf have been meeting at the latter's headquarters in Cairo to analyse the 2010 World Cup, the first finals to ever be staged on African soil. "Last night, he was chatting with Fifa and Caf officials over coffee at around nine in the evening when he told them he wasn't feeling well," Habuba told the BBC. "He was immediately taken to hospital and admitted, but was released today at 12.15." According to Habuba, Hayatou may still attend the conference's closing ceremony later on Friday but this is still uncertain. Hayatou, a Cameroonian national, has been Caf president for 23 years - but his health has often been a source of concern in recent years. The Caf president is also a Fifa vice-president and was a member of the World Cup organizing committee. |
there was this case of a hostel supervisor who always came to wake us up every morning around 4.30am with loud ringing of the bell and a rafia cane which he used to beat anyone who failed to get up on time so we planned for him. Normally he had to turn on the light in every room when he came into the room to wake us up (cause we switched off lights before going to bed) so we planned for him. We removed the plastic cover of the room switch so that it had naked wires hanging out from it but nobody could detect it since the whole room was dark. As usual the supervisor came in the morning to wake us up as normal with loud ringing of the bell and shouting on top of his voice and as usual he tried to switch on the light in our room in order to see the students in the room who were yrt to wake up - needless to say, he got an electric shock! ![]() |

i would say, it depends on the way in which your relationship ended. if you ended it mutually and you remain on good terms, then by all means send her a birthday greeting, but if you ended it on a sour note particularly if she was the one who ended it, then there is no need to send her a birthday greeting as doing so would imply that you have not moved on - best of luck ![]() |

Jonathan’s Ambition ’ll Spell Doom For Nigeria -Primate Ayodele | Print | E-mail Written by Idowu Adelusi Saturday, 09 October 2010 NOTWITHSTANDING the change that took place in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a cleric, Primate Elijah Ayodele of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, has predicted again that the 2011 general elections will not be free as anticipated by most Nigerians. The primate, who disclosed this to Saturday Tribune in an interview in Lagos during the week, said President Goodluck Jonathan has put his hopes in INEC to win the election. The prophet again reiterated that President Jonathan was not the person God ordained to win the election, but because of his “ambition and desperation,” he would use the power of incumbency to force INEC to rig the election in his favour. He said the method of rigging in the next year’s election would be different from what it used to be. “It will be more advanced, scientific, tactical and logical. It will be carried out in a more matured way,” he stated. Primate Ayodele who, a few months ago predicted that there would be bomb explosion in Abuja and political earthquake in Aso Rock which would shock Jonathan, said “the plan of God for this country is sancrosant. When you talk of winning election according to rule of the game, Jonathan will not win the 2011 presidential election. “He would influence INEC to rig the election in his favour and thereby force himself on the nation, contrary to the word of God. “His action will spell doom for himself and the nation. Only prayer can avert the crisis that Jonathan’s ambition will plunge this nation into. “He needs to listen, but those surrounding him will not give him breathing space till they push him into the pit. “I know that many pastors and alfas will tell him that he is the messiah and that the coast is clear for him. It will be like the day of King Ahab for many of them when they will bury their heads in shame. Let us choose as God directs, not by what they are getting from the politicians. “Many will see this message as a doom prophecy. I am not bothered about it. I am only saying what God asked me to tell the nation. “I can tell you today, I can stand anywhere in the world to call myself a prophet of God. I can tell you that about 80 per cent of my prophesies had come to pass, not 100 per cent. “Before you mention two or three prophets in Nigeria today, my name would come up. I am still saying that Jonahtan’s ambition will plunge this country into crisis. Let him take certain steps to save himself and the nation. The bomb explosions are a warning sign,” he stated. |

like i said previously, what the guy did is no big deal. he was forced to report the case to the bank, not out of honesty, but out of having no other option. why would he draw out 20,000 which did not belong to him in the first instance? and why was he deliberating on what to do and had to consult his fellowship, if not for the fact that he was contemplating on taking the money? reporting his find to the bank was an afterthought which came after he had realised there was no other way, since everyone had become aware |

A 42-year old man beat his wife to death following a disagreement. TOYOSI OGUNSEYE spoke with the suspect who says he cannot justify his action The marriage of 10 years ended in just 10 minutes. Olushola Ojaelatan and his wife, Basirat Oluwatoyin, had been married for 10 years. They had three children out of which two are surviving. The marriage was not Ojaelatan‘s first. The 42-year-old man was married for 10 years to another woman who left him after the union did not produce any child. Then he met Basirat who married him just after the first woman had left. Basirat‘s first child died a few months after birth, but she had two other children ages four and one respectively. Neighbours at their No. 18/20, Laidi Street, Ofin, Ikorodu, Lagos, testified that the Ojaelatans‘ marriage had not been blissful. The landlord who pleaded anonymity said that he always had cause to settle the couple‘s differences. He said, ”I was always in their room settling one fight or the other. If the wife was not screaming, the husband would be shouting. I always told Basirat‘s husband that it was not everything his wife did that he should react to; but he never listened to me. Hardly did any week pass by that I did not have to placate either of them. Their trouble was just too much.” One of the Ojaelatans‘ troubles that the landlord referred to occurred last Saturday. It was the last scuffle the husband would ever have with his wife. Ojaelatan, a carpenter, said that he returned from a night vigil in his church when his wife picked a quarrel with him. According to him, the woman was angry with him because he did not wait for her or the children when he was leaving the church. He said, ”She started shouting on top of her voice that I left her to bring our children home alone. Her grouse was that while she put one of the children on her back and held one, I did not bother to assist or wait for her after the service.” Ojaelatan however said that Basirat, 32, had been nagging him for two days before then because he did not give her sufficient money, ”She started her trouble two days before that Saturday. I gave her the little money I had, but she kept complaining that it was not enough. I knew that she was preparing for another fight, so I decided to avoid her.” The native of Ondo State however did not keep to his resolve to avoid his wife that Saturday. He said, ”I got home before her and our children and was lying down on the bed. She said that I would not sleep for leaving our children with her. Initially, I pleaded with her to let me sleep because we had another church service in the evening; but she did not listen. The next thing my wife did was to jump on the bed. She pulled my cloth and tore it into shreds. I can‘t lie against her.” The father of two said that he couldn‘t bear it any longer at this stage, so he decided to beat her with his brown leather belt. As if dealing with an unruly child, he turned her face down and started to beat her on her bare back. Ojaelatan said, ”Before she tore my shirt, she locked the door. I was very angry after she tore my shirt. So, I picked up my belt and started to beat her.” Basirat‘s screams woke up the neighbours in the compound, including the landlord who ran to the couple‘s apartment. According to the landlord, he begged the couple to open the door and he met Basirat crying on top of her voice. He said, ”Basirat said that she was not going to leave her husband until he killed her. I managed to separate them and told my other tenants to take her out of the room while I admonished the husband.” The landlord was still reprimanding Ojaelatan for beating his wife when someone shouted that Basirat, an auxiliary nurse, had fainted. Both the landlord and the lady‘s husband hurriedly went to the spot. When all efforts to resuscitate her failed, they rushed her to a nearby hospital but she died on the way. Immediately, the neighbours reported the matter to the police. Then the reality of Ojaelatan‘s action dawned on him. He said, ”I still cannot believe that my wife is dead. I‘m shocked that she died over nothing. If you ask me what the cause of our quarrel was, I can‘t even say what exactly happened.” That was not, however, the first time he would be beating her, “Even though we were always exchanging words, the last time I beat her was six years ago and I told myself that it will never happen again. I don‘t know what came over me.” The spokesman of the Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba, confirmed the incident and said, ”Basirat‘s cry for help was said to have alerted other tenants who reportedly discovered that the door was locked from inside, thereby preventing them from quickly saving her. Moments later, she became unconscious. She was rushed to the hospital where, unfortunately, she was confirmed dead. We have started our investigations and an autopsy will be carried out for us to know the cause of her death.” Mba, a Superintendent of Police, added that the deceased had a caesarian operation less than a year ago. ”She gave birth via a caesarian section barely a year ago, and it is possible that she was yet to recover, health wise. But the autopsy will tell us what went wrong.” The PPRO advised couples to shun domestic violence. |
