Travel / Re: Categories Of Nigerians Who Shouldn't JAPA Abroad (especially UK) by sharpman1(m): 6:54pm On Nov 09, 2023
gforce5:
I noticed a thread on"10 sets of People Who Shouldn't Travel To The UK". I found it interesting and decided to create my own version. I am an immigration lawyer who just came back from an IBA (International Bar Association) Conference. As a member of the immigration committee, we discuss immigration issues. Immigration is as old as time and inevitable. I don't have issues with Nigerians emigrating for "greener pastures" after all, I did the same thing as a teenager thanks to my folks and encourage many others to do so. What I do have a problem with are the categories of people emigrating abroad to start all over. The list is as follows:

1. Big earners/those who are at the top of their career: It doesn't make sense for someone who earns millions a month to abandon that in the name of JAPA. The chances that you will earn the equivalent to what you are earning in Nigeria is slim. You have to start all over again as no country is going to hire you over their own nationals.

2. People approaching 50 and above. I was insulted some time ago whenI stated that if you must Japa abroad, you should do it when you are young. While there are quite a few over 40s who have been able to re-establish themselves, there many more who have struggled to get back on their feet. The job market is a young person's market.

3. Politicians. These category of people make too much money to desire to move to another country. The system in Nigeria was designed to cater to their very whelms.

4. Small scale/large scale business men. If you have a thriving business, it doesn't make sense abandoning your business just to start over in another country. Don't get me wrong, there are many countries are looking for business men to invest in their economy. In the UK, they fall under the category of investor visas.

If you are a Senior Lawyer, Bank Manager, Senior Surgeon, Senior Chartered Accountant, you are most likely at the peak of your profession in Nigeria and very likely earning a decent amount of money that places you in the elite. It makes no sense for these category of people to emigrate and start all over again.

There you have it. Everybody else has the right to leave the country as it's not working but it doesn't make sense for the above-mentioned class of people to JAPA abroad (at least, outside Africa) as they have a lot to lose.

I don't know about the UK but this your list does not apply to the United States of America (USA).

Numbers 1, 2 & 4 will generally do better and earn more if they migrate legally to the US than staying in Nigeria. Only number 3 (politicians) are better off staying in Nigeria because the only way they know how to make money is through connections and stealing public funds.

All the others will make more money and live better if they have the opportunity or can migrate and work legally.

On 09/21/2023, my immigration journey came to an end. It has been a smooth journey, I was only interviewed once(citizenship). Sworn in as a citizen of the United States. Grateful to Jah and my wife who made this happen. Been a progressive 4 years tho not without issues.

My only advice to the newbies, be open minded and be wary of Nigerians. Hell, I say be extra, extra, extra wary of Nigerians.

Goodluck guys!

Tadadobe:
With the recent news that dollars is going to be deemphasized and might probably lose values, I'm beginning to think twice about my relocation move. My uncle that recently came back from the US gave me $5000 to do business and I initially thought about using this money to move abroad.

I'm not like an average Nigerian who get carried away with "there are good road and 99hr power supply abroad". When I travel, I'm going there to go and make money not to count ceiling and take hot picture for the Instagram and to pepper people at home.

If dollars get decentralized and $1 = about #250, thouh this development will not go well with people abroad since they'll have fear that the little they send home will no longer be able to surprise anyone, and their usual conversion strategy will no longer work. But on the other hand, this move will help people in Nigeria as there won't be that much of a difference between someone earning #500,000 in Nigeria and the one earning $3000 abroad

Joker!

$5000 will not move you abroad

Surgeman:
Whatever you do in this life, do not waste your time coming to the province of Quebec. A few other provinces of Canada are the same but my primary focus is Quebec. It is the most racist province in Canada; despite having some supposedly world class universities here in Montreal like McGill and Concordia Universities, most folks born and raised in Quebec are generally ignorant and unwelcoming of other cultures despite the front they put up. Don't take my word for it...do some research and educate yourselves. They despise even their own fellow English speaking countrymen even more so you, a foreigner who was imported from the jungles and deserts of wherever you came from to do jobs they wouldn't touch with a ten inch pole.

In my books, the worst form of racism is the covert kind and it abounds in this land in quantum. Don't say I didn't tell you otherwise you may have to learn from your own experience.

Quebec and Canada is all about the image; the survival of their economy depends largely on immigration and most Africans in their naivete are willing participants of that intricate racket. Yes, they're willing participants but only because they don't have the full facts of the matter. Don't waste your time, money or sell your ancestral lands for this scam. I am shouting this so that the Japa crew and those at the back of the class can hear it. Stay home and develop your country, be there for your family and friends, protect your dignity and self respect. How do you expect to be respected if you'd willingly run away from your homesteads to come be undacover slaves in a foreign land? No be juju be that?

Yes I'm aware, they'll ask me why don't I want to come back or even worse, label me a very negative human being but my guy if I had the means, my passport back and a place to stay while I rebuild my life, I wouldn't waste any more time here. You could spend 30 years here, have a wife, children, a career, get a PHd and all the bells but in their eyes, remain a Nigger or chunk with a PHd. There truly is no place like home but like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, you don't realize this until you have left home.

Again, I am not a teacher. My duty is to bring certain issues to public awareness and my job here is done.

Peace.

Is your destiny tied to Quebec? Abi you don't know the way to other provinces?

You can also find your way back to Nigeria so that you can enjoy the tribalism here since you don't like racism. As a bonus, you will have the joy of queuing for Naira notes at the bank.

More facts....

There are two waterfalls in Niagara, the American Falls, and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls.
The combination of height and water flow makes Niagara Falls so beautiful.
The Horseshoe Falls are 180 feet (57 meters) high and allow 6 million cubic feet (168,000 cubic meters) of water over the crestline every minute during peak daytime tourist hours (that is about a million bathtubs full of water every minute!).
Man-made attractions of Niagara Falls include Maid of the Mist, Table Rock Scenic Tunnels, Spanish Aero Car, Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum, Marineland, Casino Niagara, IMAX Theatre, and the new Butterfly Conservatory.

Quick Facts About Niagara Falls

The Falls at Niagara are about 12,000 years old
Falls were formed when melting glaciers formed massive fresh-water lakes (the Great Lakes), one of which (Lake Erie) ran downhill toward another (Lake Ontario). The rushing waters carved out a river in their descent and, at one point, passed over a steep cliff-like formation (the Niagara escarpment). The water began to wear its way back up the river from the original falls going over the Niagara Escarpment. The path it left is known today as the Niagara Gorge (a deeply-cut and scenic river path).
Niagara Falls wears its way back another approximately 1 foot/year.
The Niagara River flows at approximately 35 miles/hour (56.3 kilometers/hour).

I took a trip from Houston to Ontario last week and decided to visit Niagara Falls. I just want to share some of the beautiful pictures I took while sightseeing.

Backstory: In 2014, I applied for a Canadian tourist visa from Nigeria and was denied. The reason for the denial, as stated in their letter, was a lack of travel history. I was not bothered then, I simply used the money I had put together for the trip as the down payment for the Lagos HOMS flat I bought from the Lagos State Government that same 2014. It was a blessing in disguise.

Fast forward to 2022, I strolled to the airport and flew to Canada without needing to apply for a visa or any advance travel document.

Anyway, enough backstory. Enjoy!

Good morning all and I would like to thank you for kind words.

My Visa was denied based on my past B1/B2 application. Even when the officer could not give a chance to clarify his assertions.

I would like to respond to some speculations which i have read so far based on what I witnessed at the embassy on the day of my interview:
1. Denial rate for both (spousal/fiance) was high
2.Some people still got their visas as well
3. Past records of you and your petitioner play a big role in your application.
4. I have all evidences needed right with them but it still doesn't matter if your relationship is genuine or not as long as the officer feels he is not convinced.
5. you can appeal a K1 denial.
Thank you.

Any attempt to appeal a K1 is a waste of time. You can refile a K1 petition but if the story is the same, it will also result in a denial.

The only smart solution to a K1 denial is to get married, file a spousal petition, hire a lawyer if the situation is complex and hope the petition is approved. However, it can still be denied if the issues that caused the denial of the K1 is not resolved.

Your K1 was denied based on contradicting information in your past B1/B2 application vs your K1 application. That created some doubt. Most COs won't give you an opportunity to clarify.

Right. But her case was different going by her travel history. She gave birth in the US with her B1/B2 back in 2015. And then applied for a renewal with her husband in 2016. The question would be who petitioned for her in 2020. Was it the same person who was at the embassy with her, or she was divorced and the ex husband remained in the US. The red flag lies somewhere in Between.

Oh. I see. You are correct. That's probably where the doubt came for the CO.

The way out is to get married to her fiance and have solid evidence that the previous marriage ended.

Sorry about this. I think you were denied due to your previous travels to the US. I see you’ve renewed your b1/b2 recently. And you once gave birth in the US. The red flag might be from these. Did the same person who traveled to the US with you back then your petitioner? You need to state the reason why you were denied, even if you’re going for CR1 route so people can help if at all. Don’t give up

Previous travels or B1/B2 visa has zero impact a K1 petition.

I had a valid b1/b2 visa and I had traveled to the US twice within the past 1.5 years as at the time I had my K1 interview.

The thing with K1 is that you are at the mercy of the CO. Even if you have all your documents and evidence of a genuine relationship and the CO feels something is not right (even without evidence), the applicant can be denied and there's nothing anyone can do about it. The only option is to refile the K1 or get married and file a spousal.

Which end? Get married to you fiance and file a spousal visa. Except the reason for the denial is very fundamental and serious.
