Lmaooooo. Abeg where pesin fit buy correct winter jacket dem?
Okay that one is easy. At Ikotun you can get very good jackets that will make you look like a marshmallow for as little as #1500
Then in Surulere, they have warehouses where they offload containers. There's one around Shotanwa street dem side, the street is not too far from Sanya bus stop, okada can carry you. They have anti-winter weapons there.
Please let me know if you require additional information grin grin grin

I was thinking of doing some cloth shopping (casual/corporate clothes and shoes) here in Nigeria but someone advised me not to. He said I should buy them when I get to the United States as they will be cheap, of better quality and more fashionable. He said I should just get few native wears here in Nigeria and come along with what I already have. Please what do you all think?
I just siddon hia dey laugh you upandan. Permit me to address you as babe grin grin grin
E be like say you never experience naira-dollar shock before. Just go to Amazon and check some items. You go know say, big man for naija fit be middle class or less for obodo ndi Trump.
Babe enter Lagos, go cele express under bridge and see fine fine clothes, Ikotun get assorted clothes too or the nearest affordable market.
When you reach there start to pair your clothes up, na the abroad people go dey take fashion advice from you, as in as you pass, street go cut for you. Naija to the world grin grin grin
Please get whatever you can here, you have 46kg +carry on, use them to the glory of God. You will be wearing the ones you bought until you settle down properly and recover from the naira-dollar shock.
I support the motion of native wears by the way. Ehen I hope he didn't advise you to buy sweaters when you come over, babe buy all your weapons of warfare against cold before you leave grin They are cheaper here, we rarely buy them except to do shakara...

Dreambound, I wanted to quote your approved visa transcript but I changed my mind grin. I love the fact that you had a beautiful conversation with the VO, I could practically imagine the scenario and it just made me love you more. I pray your success story inspires other aspiring undergraduates on this platform. I pray they would draw strength and courage from you, knowing that not only M.Sc or PhD students get approval. Congratulations my friend.
I want to also congratulate you omohakin on your approval. I am super excited about your success and the entire universe is waiting for the manifestation of your gifts.
Going forward, to everyone who's yet to have a conversation with the VO, yes I keep mentioning conversation because calling it an "interview" brings a lot of pressure and anxiety. So please remember this: dark pink papers will fly in the air but it's none of your business. Your business is with the white paper. Your business is to prove you are worthy and deserving of an approval. It's okay to be nervous but don't throw #59200 away without a good fight. It's okay to have a transcript but don't do la cram, la pour, la forget. Don't go with a fake bank statement, don't say more than necessary, be confident and outspoken, do not bore the VO. You can drop your file on the table so you can use your hands to gesticulate and be more expressive, I think that helps a lot. As much as possible, try not to lie. Believe in yourself, you are not a failure. Some got their visas approved once and so what? This is your 2nd or 3rd attempt and so what? You are wiser and stronger now, you know better now, forgive yourself for your mistakes and turn the denials to your advantage, use them to gain momentum and relaunch massively on your next interview.
I have no idea why I'm writing all these, if it's for you or you, then please, take the information. You have no idea how hard I'd be rooting for you. We are in this together, we are family(even though we fight a lot grin), so go get that visa!
May the triune force be with you grin grin grin

Pepperoni001:
*this is my proposed Transcript*

Your feedback are highly appreciated.

VO: Good Morning, Pass me your I-20 and SEVIS receipt.
ME: Good Morning, handed over the requested docs.

VO: Why are you going to US?
ME: I am going to US for my Graduate Study in Sustainable Energy.

VO: How Many Universities did you apply to?
ME: 4 Universities: Eastern Illinois University, North Eastern Illinois University, Murray State University and Georgia Southern University.

VO: How many accepted you and how many rejected you.
ME: Eastern Illinois University and Murray State University accepted me, NEIU rejected me and I am awaiting decision from GSU.

VO: Why did you Choose EIU.
ME: I met with an Alumni who gave me firsthand information about the Sustainable energy program and the faculty at large. The Renewable Energy Center in EIU is the largest university biomass in the country. The center will afford me the firsthand opportunity to learn how renewable energy is utilized to support the need of a campus or community. I exchanged series of email with the Director of Studies; Dr. Peter Liu who advised me to apply after vetting my credentials and supporting documents.
The ratio of Lecturer to Students, and the state of Art facilities where also the convincing factors.

VO: Any standardized test?
ME: GRE: 280 and TOEFL: 80?

V.O: What will the degree do for you?
Me: The program is a science-based and technology management focused, it will equip me, put me on the edge to accept the challenging mission of achieving renewable energy utilization and its sustainability in the food industry, which will reduce our over dependence on crude based source of fuel which will lower the prices of and demand for natural gas by increasing competition and diversifying our energy supplies.

VO: Who is paying the school bills?
ME: My dad is footing the bills.

VO: What does he do? Pass me his SOA
ME: He’s a lecturer of Law at University of Ibadan, hands her SOA

VO: I can see you married with Kids, why are you not going with them.
ME: My wife just got started work with XYZ bank and there’s a bond she signed with them that won’t allow her leave her duty post for two years.

VO: You can pick your visa in 3 days.
ME: Alright, have a great day.

I'm not sure how I feel about some of your responses. As a matter of fact, I am concerned about your response to Why this school and what this degree would do for you.
1)Why this school? Talking about the renewable energy centre is more captivating than the Alumni kini. You might want to bring it forward please. You see the other reasons you gave, I'm not so comfortable maybe because there are schools with better student faculty ratio and you didn't pick them, maybe because there are schools with better research facilities but you didn't pick them, maybe because Dr. Emeka at ETSU would have also encouraged you to apply had it been you contacted him grin grin grin
I pray you understand where I am coming from. The why this school question is one place you can't afford to mess up.
2) What would this degree do for you. I think you succeeded in dancing etigi, Zanku, gbe body and even alanta grin grin grin. I mean you were dancing around so many concept and ideas that didn't seem to have much to do with you!
Ok, why would you want to accept the challenging mission of achieving renewable energy utilization and its sustainability in the food industry? How does accepting the challenge help you as an individual? How does it contribute to your career progress? So that's what your dad would spend over $40k for?
Ok, "which will reduce our over dependence on crude based source of fuel which will lower the prices of and demand for natural gas by increasing competition and diversifying our energy supplies"
Please how do all these concern you? Please get your priorities right sir and please prepare for more questions.
May the force be with you!

Bro try to get ur visa and run away. Is not a must u will look at the VO. Even the VO your looking at won’t even notice you since his or her eyes will be on the computer.
I feel like tearing your opinion apart based on what I know but on a second thought, it's your opinion. You can as well tell the person to look at the floor while answering questions, after all the VO will be looking at the computer!

Sister Sharwarma, have you done your interview yet?
No sir. They cancelled my interview. According to them there has been changes in the immigration laws for those from a royal lineage. They believe I would be a cultural asset to them and can't wait to have me. So yes, I have been issued a visa.
Now that I have blatantly lied, can I rest? Can I also respond to questions without been asked about my interview? I am no longer comfortable, I feel pressured!

Please my interview is in a few days, is it compulsory to have my eyeballs on the vo throughout the interview, what if i want to think for a second and i need to take my gaze off the vo very briefly, is this allowed.
I feel like laughing, hold on please grin grin grin
No dear, there are other strategies to buy time to think. Like saying " sorry?", "I beg your pardon", "can you please repeat that?", "I'm sorry I didn't get you correctly". Do you know you can smile and say uhm...(that's how to buy time grin but don't over do it!)
Furthermore, this is where your transcript comes in. You ought to have anticipated over 25 questions a VO would ask. Yes there might be one that will take you by surprise but I'm sure with devoted preparation, you'd be able to give a sensible impromptu response.
So please have it in mind that you are going to donate your eye balls to the VO and you won't take them off until the interview is over or you want to bring a document from your file grin
Please let me know if you require additional information. We are family grin grin grin

Hello everyone, kindly help with this question,

Can I use an investment account (from an investment company) instead of a bank account statement as evidence of available fund for my F1 visa interview. Thank you as you respond.
My school specifically said they won't accept investment kini as proof of financial support before sending I-20. Bearing that in mind I am not sure you should use it either especially if it's for your uncle grin grin grin

Why is it that most people don't like to share the name of their school in the transcript they write especially if they get full funding. I think sharing it will go a long way in helping people target generous schools
My dear we don talk am tire sote spit dry for mouth. Some no dey hear word. If you post the name of your school, you no go die, dem no go withdraw your admission or collect your funding. Please help me rate this response

Why did you choose this school:
Because the faculty are closely engaged wit their student and it's curriculum is tailored towards a career focus education. Also the opportunity to take part in research on cyber security and forensic under Dr.....
I kinda think it's boring, it's mundane, it's not impressive, it lacks enthusiasm, it doesn't make much sense, it proves you didn't do your homework, it reveals a deliberate attempt to invoke boredom on an innocent VO. I'm sorry I couldn't find better adjectives.
What can you do to make this response better? That's easy.
Ask yourself what made you like the school, what's so unique about it, what makes it stand out for you, what do they have that others schools don't seem to have, what can they do for YOU that another school probably can't, why would you want to spend at least two years of your life in such a place and why won't you rather go to another school but this one.
Go to their website, and even your program page. I am sure you will find highly befitting and unique answers that would probably make the VO listen with rapt attention. If the VO needs to be bored, they know where to find boredom and it shoudn't be from you gringringrin
May the force be with you!

Hello everyone,
My visa was approved on May 24th at Abuja, sorry it took long to come back and give thanks to everyone in this group, work has been tight and I only just collected my passport yesterday (not an excuse though). Thank you all for your wonderful contributions to this thread and also @Time2win for the mock interview a day before the interview, your drills were just what I needed to put my mind at ease, even asking questions that up until that moment I had not anticipated.

The interview was very, very brief. To provide a context of how short it was, I had my interview after @Amyfid12 and her interview went exactly as she described, I thought she was very articulate and spoke really well, but she was stopped right after she said Aunty. After her interview she was just outside the interview door arranging her documents when I met up with her, and we walked out together. I genuinely felt for her, I just think the lack of assistantship was the issue.

To the interview proper.

Me: Good morning (she did not smile or really look up)

VO: Pass me your passport (I did), I-20 too (I did also)

VO: Why this University?

Me: This university is unique to me for several reasons. Firstly, it is a research active institution and the research of Prof. Madsen who is a pioneer of sorts in geophysics also attracted me to the institution. Secondly, (VO cuts in)

VO: I see you have full funding from the university.

Me: Yes, I do

VO: Congratulations, your visa has been approved blah, blah blah.

So, thank you all for your continuous contributions to this thread.
Congratulations child of God grin gringrin
