Which kind admission dem give am for US? I mean, e high reach or pass masters as e be say the one e dey do for UK na small course, abi na bachelors you dey try describe and how many months remain for am to finish?
I dey ask because VO no dey like use ear hear say person run leave course, them go flag am as immigration risk, unless e get ogbonge reason. So e go sweet if he finish but nothing stops him from applying shaaa, he just needs to make a strong case and justify his decision. Usually, since UK, US, AU, and CA dey share information, once one of them give you visa, e no dey too hard for the other three to reason your matter as long as you dey legit. I wish your friend well ooo.

Hello Guys i need your candid opinion on this issue,

My friend recently got an admission in the United States but he's based in UK and is currently there for a program lower than Master's degree program. He has been thinking if applying for visa from UK will reduce his chances of getting one and even if he can apply from there. Please kindly make your input on this. Thanks

Have you considered https://www.nairaland.com/1832477/how-achieve-high-scores-gre/613
It might be super helpful, particularly because people there appear pretty generous with study materials and tips. More importantly, it gives you a sense of belonging to a “community”.

Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by sharwama(f): 3:21am On May 28, 2023
Not necessarily, I mean it depends. For example, when requesting your I-20, if you used a POF indicating your dad as a sponsor, Your I-20 will reflect your dad’s name. So in this case, you need to go to the interview with a POF from your dad but now the statement can reflect more money in his account but never ever less money. If you used your personal money as POF, then you can show a personal bank statement upon request since you are self-sponsored. Of course you can have a combination of both.
But the oga kpatakpata of them all is this: Support whatever is on your I-20. If you have a deficit on your I-20, you must have a POF that can completely cover that and if possible, kukuma add jara on top. Sorry for the lengthy explanation, to type for computer just dey sweet me this night.
Best wishes!

Nzealibaba:
I want to ask ,
Is it the same proof of funds used for I-20 form ,
Must be submitted at the embassy

Walk me through your funding, so I can understand this better. Ideally, a PhD "funding" comes with tuition waivers and monthly stipends. The latter are expected to take care of most living expenses for a frugal student. Overall, if at all you have a deficit, it shouldn't be too much. So walk me through your funding if you'd like to. Else, it's fine. Go with all the evidence of financial support at your disposal.
Best of luck.
FrostyButter:

I did a calculation of living expenses for a year and except I'm using my aunts and uncles statement of account, it wouldn't add up to that figure.

If it is funded, why do you need multiple sponsors? What's your deficit or what are you not telling?
Anyways, you are free to have multiple sponsors, however, that just further indicates how the degree might be a huge financial burden for your family, such that you require three sponsors, especially if it's a degree you can comfortably obtain from Nigeria.
FrostyButter:
Hello house. New here, i have a question concerning proof of funds. Can i have two co-sponsors(aunty and uncle who share the same surname) and my mum as a main sponsor? Is there a limit to people i can use as sponsors?

I intend on going for a phd program thats funded.

2) No idea
3) Bad idea
I seriously hope you get the GA. Best of luck.
Paultaiwo101:
Good day everyone, I've been well enlightened by all your comments. Please I have a few questions concerning my VISA processing;
1. Can my maternal uncle serve as a sponsor for my deficit funding of $30k?
2. My program starts by August 11 and i'm just about to pay SEVIS fee to schedule my Visa interview, can i still get a reasonable Visa interview date?
3. Although i have my I-20 and a part scholarship of about $16k, i still hope to get a GA as i expect a decision on this soon. If the GA doesn't come through and maybe my uncle can't part with the funds in his account, can i get a private loan firm to pay for my admission in the US, or what other chances do i have?

Thank you.

Say whatever is on your I-20 and quit allocating brain resources to things you can't control or change, like this. I don't see a huge difference between both, if you had written nursing on your DS-160, then it's your legal right to start panicking. Focus on how to ace the interview jare. Best of luck.
mimme14sure:

Good Day Everyone. I have a bit of a challenge. I have my visa interview next week. This is after I requested an emergency booking. I just found out that on my DS 160 form, I indicated the course of study as Chemical Engineering but on my I-20 it's Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering. Would it be an issue during the interview? How do I answer/defend this error?

Which one should I say when asked during the interview? DS160 or I-20

Please, I really need help to answer this.

Thank you

Not sure I understand what you mean by closing date, but I do know a lot of summer programs round off 1st or second week of August, with the new academic year beginning on the third or fourth week of August.
Grad coordinator is probably enjoying summer break, I would consider mailing the executive aide or someone in the admissions office. I hope this helps.

sharwama, I cannot count how many applicants you have referred to me. They always point to you, "she said I should contact you, that she's too busy." I know that type of busyness. It's the one you're pelted with another assignment before you finish the one on your table. But it's the only kind of proper education young minds need to rise and develop their nascent potentials. I trust you're doing fine and getting by with good grades.

Still your King, Fairheart grin grin

Hi, fam. Thanks for all that you guys are doing here. Please I have to some questions to ask and I hope to find answers here:

1. Is there anyone here in this forum/thread who's in the US and studying Medical Laboratory Science at the undergraduate or Masters Level?

2. Is it possible to study Medical Laboratory Science at the Masters Level with a BSc degree in Human and Medical Physiology?

3. Does sitting for GRE and scoring high qualify one for scholarships or it'll be a combination of both your BSc CGPA and GRE?

I really look forward to receiving answers to these questions here.

Once again, thank you.
1) I don't know, I wouldn't care.
2) Yes, absolutely yes.
3) When your Dr. Gives you anti malarial and includes vitamin C and panadol. Have you asked why? It's called SYNERGY. These drugs synergize with each other to produce maximum benefit.
Now GRE, TOEFL, powerful LOR, SOP, GPA all work in synergy to get you admission, and improved chances of good funding and visa approval.
End of story.

Please house, do I need to get my recommendation letter before admission or after admisssion. Should they be addressed to the various schools or generic?
Does generic sound good to you? Do you have any idea how many persons are seeking the same admission as you are? So here's the thing:
Most schools will require your recommenders to upload their recommendations letters online via a portal as soon as you input your recommenders email address.
Now, you can decide to see the letters or you can waive your rights to view the letters. I suggest you waive your rights. Some professors don't feel comfortable writing a LOR if they know you would read it, it kinda says "you don't trust me"
So your Professors need to write their own letters and this plays a huge role in determining if you will get admitted or not.
In summary, the Letter "qualifies" you for "admission consideration"

Please do you think it's very necessary to take GRE for Chemisty in ETSU? Thanks
No, I don't think it is "very necessary", I just think it's a "sensible" thing to do coz sometimes VOs question if you have taken standardized tests or not to help them satisfy their curiosity about the authenticity of your studentship. It's not a guarantee that you'd get your Visa approved because you took the test, but it's just a way of making sure there are no loopholes. It's like saying "anyhow you want it, I am ready for you today today" grin grin grin
I wish you all the best.

Good day. please I want ask if it's possible for me to get scholarships for Msc. in the USA without GRE or TOEFL.
So here's the thing
It could be possible, cases like that aren't really common.
Let me burst your brain small.
What shall it profit you, to suffer and apply to schools, even receive beautiful scholarship without taking standardized tests only to be denied Visa by a VO simply because when he or she asked "did you take any standardized tests?" you unfortunately responded "No"
Can you ever forgive yourself?
When I want to do something, I do it thoroughly, no loopholes, I tighten all ends.
Besides, taking these exams and obtaining great scores gives you the opportunity and flexibility to apply to reputable programs.
Sometimes when you email Professors in order to get some sort off funding, they ask for GRE & TOEFL/IELT scores as well as your CV and transcript.
These enable them make a decision, if they can consider you as a worthy investment, an asset. It helps them envisage what you can bring to the table.
Okay, I have written too much. I don't know why God made me like this grin grin grin
I wish you undiluted wisdom my friend.

lol. no problem dear. At least i have gotten d info i needed. Biko one last tin, someone mentioned diffculty in getting job as a foreginer with social work degree biko na true? because its quiet diff from what we are told here(that social work is among the jobs in demand). Pls should i send a pm ? Pleaaaaaaassssseeeeeee
So you are not just going there to pursue education, you also have immigration abi job hunting intent. This is the problem right here. Please study the Social work in the abroad and return to your fatherland to make an impact. There are so many orphanages and NGOs and ministries that would rush you grin grin grin
Social workers in the US are so much, the supply technically is higher than the demand. The implication of that is your degree won't be a bonus, they would employ an American citizen with lesser education over you. You can't compete with citizens even with your M.Sc. Your case could be different though but the odds don't seem good, the money you will spend, the returns don't seem good.
However, it is important to study a course you are passionate about, so when the chips are down, when you are as exhausted and frustrated as I am right now, when you are fatigued knowing you have to teach several lab sessions, grade papers, attend classes between campuses, taking two to three buses coz you can't afford a car, even taking classes on weekends and conducting experiments on Sundays, when you get to this point when your life is no longer your own, only passion and genuine love for the pursuit of education and a better future can get you going.
So my question is, why do you want this degree? Whatever your answer is, I have shared something with you, but if you can't take it, someone else will.
Don't P.M me please, I am a mad woman right now, I am adjusting to something I was not prepared for.
You should probably pray for me my friend.
May the force be with you.

ybahrbz91:
Good morning house.
kindly help review my proposed transcript.
Why are you going to USA?
I am going to USA for my masters in Rehabilitation Science at the University of Illinois, Chicago.(UIC)

How many schools and why UIC
2, Concordia university Wisconsin and UIC.
I choose UIC because of an ongoing research at the brain Plasticity Laboratory aimed at improving optimal functions among stroke survivors which aligns with my career interest. Headed my Dr sands who has consented to me volunteering at the Laboratory.
Another reason I choose UIC is because of its multidisciplinary approach towards the management of stroke survivors, this brings together professionals from different fields in other to attain optimal functional recovery.

Why this course?
After the completion of my first degree in Medical Rehabilitation(physiotherapy major), I have had the opportunity to practice both in the public and private health sector and having witnessed the multiple hassles being faced by stroke survivors and their caregivers and challenges in attaining an optimal functional recovery, I was propelled to further in the field of Neuro-rehabilitation.

What will this course do for you?
As a physiotherapist, a masters degree in Rehab science affords me the opportunity to seek for the post of a neuro-rehabilitation specialist at any federal teaching Hospital back here in Nigeria.
In addition, a Masters degree in this course will further sharpen both my research and clinical skills which would be brought to bear in delivering an evidenced based Rehabilitation service in other to improve functional recovery among stroke survivors and hence reduce the alarming rate of premature death on my return to Nigeria.

What is your plan after your study?
I will be returning to Nigeria to seek for the job position of a Neuro-rehabilitation specialist at a federal Teaching Hospital. A field where there are only few specialist in the country.
Also, this programme does not limit me to clinical practice alone. It would also equip me to become an health consultant for various organisations in increasing the awareness on the causes and prevention of stroke.

How did you know abt the skul?
It was during an extensive research on the internet trying to improve functions in my stroke patients that I came across an ongoing research at the BPL of UIC. I was intrigued by this research technique and I checked up on the school.

Why USA?
The USA is a trailblazer in the field of Neuro-rehabilitation most especially the concept of neuroplasticity. A masters degree in US will not only expose me to state of the art research laboratories but also an opportunity to be mentored under top researchers in this field.

Why are you leaving your present job?
My career goal has always to become a Neuro-rehabilitation specialist. Taking this golden opportunity will bring me a step further towards achieving my dream.

Who is sponsoring your trip?
My dad is my principal sponsor while my uncle has also volunteered to co-sponsor me.
Close your eyes and let us pray!
Lord help me to be nice, it won't be easy, just help me. Amen!
1) If Dr. Sand dies today, would you still attend this school? I am showing you something. Previously, VOs used to be mesmerized when you talk about being captivated by a professor's ongoing research or being thrilled by the prospects of being mentored by one.
Now the jazz no too dey work. Please I beg you, come up with a better reason. You can use this to support but don't start with this I beg you.
Your second reason sounds cool so we just need to give it a nice intro
Maybe you are passionate about neurorehabilitation for stroke survivors and fortunately, the MSc program at UIC stands out because of the multidisciplinary approach or something... I hope you get the picture.
Please you have to work on why this school, ok?
Next, why this course
Do you remember what your English teacher taught you about Topic sentence? Sometimes it could be at the beginning, the middle or the end.
Let me tell you, in a visa interview, your topic sentence must be at the BEGINNING!!!
So, why this course. Just hit it. You decided to pursue M.Sc in Rehab because... gbam gbam gbam. Then you can start telling stories if you meet a patient VO.
Moving forward, what will this course do for you
You have great ideas but you didn't make much impact because you have unnecessary words causing distractions.
"which would be brought to bear in delivering an evidenced based Rehabilitation service in other"
Before you mentioned to improve the stroke survivor kini, I already lost interest coz these unnecessary lines distracted me.
So why not tie your answers together, like the degree qualifies you for a position, and in that position, having already gotten the necessary skills, you would be able to attenuate premature death in stroke victims or something.
I pray you see what I am showing you please. Your answers should always reinforce each other.
If your dad's SOA can cover your cost, you really don't need to talk about your uncle. My opinion though.
Ok, I am really tired, I think I will stop here. I just didn't want you to feel ignored, that's not nice at all.
I wish you all the best my friend. Go get that visa!

For the past few days, I've been going through this thread, and assuming it's a church, I'd exclaim: "God is here". Regardless, indeed, God is here. I thank God for making me find this thread, and I thank everyone here for making it a success.

Despite my very shallow pocket, I'd love to share my own testimony come fall 2020, and to achieve that I want to start by taking the GRE and TOEFL. By God's grace, I already have a CGPA above 4.5.

My questions:

1) With a CGPA above 4.5, do I have any advantage in my quest for a full ride?

2) I intend to write the GRE and TOEFL by October ending, and get scores capable of giving me a fully funded scholarship (mehn, I'm currently a broke ass niggar and this journey will be impossible without a scholarship). Is this timeline feasible for both exams?

3) If I get my GRE and TOEFL scores by October ending, will it be too late to get full funding for fall 2020 admission?

4) With a fully funded scholarship (without any deficit), can I get a visa without a statement of account?

6) Can I start applying to schools now without my GRE and TOEFL, and later send them my scores once available?

7) Please I'd appreciate if anyone with study materials on GRE and TOEFL can send to me on : kevwemanuel at gmail.com
Thanks alot in anticipation of a response to me

VO : What was your hardest course (wasn't expecting this)
Me : Advanced Heat and Mass transfer
VO : Why this course and which topic?
Me: I was thought most of the theoretical part of the course in school although it had a practical part. Xo due the theoretical knowledge I have only for this course makes it difficult for me. And the topic that was quite challenging was Radiation.
VO : What part of radiation?
Me: Black body and di-electric.
VO : Your Aunt is sponsoring you?
Me : Yea sure
VO : why is she sponsoring you.
Me : Fiammmmmm everything I wanted to say don fly comot, was mixing words at this point. I just looked at the VO and told him am tensed up, he smiled I took in two deep breaths and with a smile I delivered my speech. Apart from the fact that she sponsored my part of my undergraduate study, she's a business woman and we have similar interest, she owns lots of American vehicles which she uses for business mist times I maintain these vehicles because I have the necessary tools and skill, so I them told her about my plans to gain more skills and setup my own auto repair shop. She believes in my abilities and thinks with proper training and certifications I can do better and manage my own auto repair shop. She also bought the idea on the condition that I will also maintain her cars.(smiling).
VO : What's s she into?
Me: She's into real estate, oil and gas, she owns alot of gas station in the country.
The VO just reached out his hands to the white paper, saying the usual stuff and the words doing the usual in from one ear and out from the other. I just collected the paper and left.

Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 15 by sharwama(f): 5:59am On Aug 07, 2019
Flaame:
Hey, everyone, am dropping my proposed transcript here and it's open for constructive criticism. Interview is very close.
Level : Bsc
Course: Computer engineering
School : St Clouds State University
Vo: Good morning, pass me your documents please
Me: (Complied)
Vo: where are you going?
Me: Am going to St Clouds State University in St Cloud for undergraduate degree in computer engineering
Vo: You were before.... Why were you denied?
Me: I was denied because of my failure to prove to the visa officer that my purpose of travel was for my undergraduate program and not migrational purpose
Vo: So what has changed in your application?
Me: I am more confident in expressing myself, have known a lot more about my program and most importantly, I have a stronger funds.
Vo: To obtain a computer engineering degree at St Cloud State University, I need to complete prerequisite courses before getting admitted to the computer engineering program. By the end of each semester, am expected to have at least a minimum GPA of 2.5 to keep advancing to the next level. By the end of my program which ends inMay 2023,am expected to graduate with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must have completed a course load of 106 credit unit
Vo: Why St Cloud?
Me: Apart from the fact that I got a generous scholarship at SCSU, I chose this wonderful school because of the following reasons :
-St Clouds State University has a very deep focus and interest on the welfare and academic excellence of her international students, this helps students achieve their purpose of stay in the U.S
-Of all the schools I applied to, SCSU is the only school that uses a D2L system, a system where professors can create web based course sites that enhances course experience. This system gives students the access to course materials like assignment folders, quizzes and surveys, course contents, grade books and more, through their smart phones, laptops and tablets.
-SCSU has a very diversed cultural community with students representing over 90 countries, so no matter where you come from, there's always a place for you to belong at SCSU
On top of these all, SCSU offers so much at a very moderate rate

Vo: How many schools did you apply to?
Me: 3 schools, 3 admits( sequentially name them)
Vo: Why this course?
Me: Upon graduation, this course will help me so much in securing a good job in top Innovative technical firms in Nigeria, firms like Angela, Flutterwave,Mastercard,Jumia,Globacam, etc. These companies are in technical revolution and are always in the recruit of good engineers so with a degree in this course, I believe I'll stand a very good chance of getting a good employment in one of the companies . In the big run, this degree will help me in setting up my own IT consultancy.
Vo: when did you graduate?
Me: 2014
Vo: (probably amazed) so what have you been doing?
Me: Yes, it's been a while quite alright but after I graduated in 2014,I started computer lesson programs that lasted for almost a year, afterwards, I was offered an assistanship job where my role was to guide and instruct newbies. In 2016,I started my freelancing career and at the same time managed 2 blog site I co-own with my brother .
Vo: How did you get the scholarship?
Me: I had an impressive application and I qualified for the scholarship in all ramification.
Vo: Do you think you qualify for this visa?
Me: Yes, I think I do. I've got an admit from a good school, a good intent, sufficient funds, end good academic record.
Vo: what will you do after graduation?
Me: After graduation, I will come back to Nigeria for my compulsory NYSC, hence, start executing my career plans in Nigeria
Vo: who's your sponsor?
Me: My uncle, he's actually a l lawyer by profession but has a lot of businesses he handles, he has a school here in Abuja, a lounge here too, he's into estate business and some other businesses .
Vo: why would he spend so much on you? Doesn't he have his own kids to train?
Me: That will never be a problem to him, he has been playing a major role in funding my academics and has trained all his children in school. They are all independent now. He is willing to do so.
What I'm about to write now is my opinion and nothing but my opinion.
Bold 1: That's a very terrible thing to say in the beginning, it leaves you at the mercy of the VO who now has to rely not just on his or her professional sense of judgement but on the supposed "previous judgement" of a colleague. There are better ways to answer this question. There are words you shouldn't mention at all in an F1 visa interview and Migration or its relatives is one of them!
Bold 2: That you have known a lot about your program doesn't sound impressive. I keep singing it, keep every unimpressive information to yourself at the interview. Define "stronger funds", why not be specific please.
Bold 3: So you were given a conditional admission, does the VO NEED to know about this? I won't say a word.
Bold 4: Please don't say this, I beg you. It's not an exciting fact. You see, most schools cherish international students, we add not just monetary value to them, we also help them preach "diversity", something that has more monetary value, if you know, you know!
If you are sure about the D2L, now that's a beautiful one.
Bold 5: I won't say a word, so you can peacefully sound like a "naive undergraduate" for once grin
Bold 6: I am not sure how I feel, in fact I feel like you had no plans to go to the university, no attempt was mentioned. What is an assistantship job? Guiding and instructing newbies on what exactly? Can you understand my emphasis on specificity? In fact I am tired. So from 2016- now you have been blogging and free lancing. Is this what you filled in your DS 160? Nollywood would probably not buy this story, how much more a VO. Should we blame the previous VO for considering you as a potential immigrant? You are even going for a course that is greatly available here in Nigeria and will be cheaper for your uncle. Ok, I won't say a word.
Bold 7: I am not sure the question about qualifying or not will come up but if it does, don't respond like that please. That's not confidence, that's annoying cockiness. Why not simply smile and let the VO know you trust his or her sense of judgement. Just do back to sender peacefully and don't let village people use you by showing you know the standards of assessment. If I was a VO, I will deny you, you want to teach me my job abi, nonsense ingredients grin
Bold 8: You are trying so hard to paint your sponsor as a very credible one. Don't do that, it shows desperation. Let the SOA do the talking. Shebi they said money answereth all things? If the VO needs more clarity, he or she will ask!
Bold 9: Are you him? Is him you? How can you be so certain when you are neither the owner of the businesses nor the money. The last time he played a major role in your academics was in 2014, a lot has changed, Naira is like a dwarf before the dollar. Why not give a response centered on humility and gratitude that he is willing to help please.
Conclusively, be careful of your choice of words, tone and attitude. They tell the VO who you really are.
I wish you all the best, ok bye grin grin grin
