Good evening everyone. Here’s my profile, I was refused F1 visa last year July in lag. It was my first time, I didn’t sit for any standardized test at that time, nor have I been outside Nigeria at that time all these the V. O at that time asked me tplus I stuttered a lot and wasn’t loud with my response also my SOA wasn’t in order at the time.

Fast forward to today, I am going for interview again this coming week.
My profile: sat for Toefl and GRE.
Traveled to another African country last year.
Got admitted to another school different from the the previous one! UNH now.
Also got some partial scholarship 20%
Remaining deficit =27706$
Course = sports management MS
I am 27.
I have a SOA from my uncle about 10.4m and a refrence letter from his company.

What could you suggest in my case below is my intended transcript.

Me:Good morning
V.O: good morning
Pass your pspt and i20 form.
Me: sure
VO: where are you going to?
Me: UNH for masters study in Sports mgt.
VO: how did you know about the school?
Me: An alumni told me about the school, and I discovered according to Princeton review it’s one of the top ranked universities that has an active research status in southern New England region.
VO: how many schools did you apply to?
Me: 5
VO:how many admits
Me: so far 3 admits, 1 reject and 1 pending
VO: did you write any test?
Me: yes GRE , TOEFL
VO: scores ?
Me: 284, 83
VO: why UNH?
Me: Apart from the partial scholarship, my course adviser Dr Ceyda Mumcu is keen to have me work with her research team she’s currently conducting a research in the area of sports facility management and this aligns with my undergraduate final year research work as a graduate of project management. So this will serve as a step for me!
VO: what will this course do for you?
Me: after completion when I must have garnered the required knowledge and professional skills, I will be working as a sports facility manager in Nigeria sports institution like the NFF, to help tackle problems of poor facility management and poor maintenance operations. Also in the long run I plan to establish a sports camp or recreational park where I can work to promote physical fitness among children and adults in my community.

VO: Tell me about your research Area?

Me: he owns so so which has branches in bla bla cities.
VO: how long has he been sponsoring
Me: since 2010 my undergraduate days.
VO: congratulations your visa is approved
Amen!

Please constructive criticism is welcome. Let me know what you guys think.
Gurus in the house please! Time2win, fairheart, Lagosismyhome, bracelum, Shawarma. I am sorry if I left anyone out it’s not intentional. God bless.
Abeg no vex, no be say I no see diz ya transcript since ooo, I get Visa fever so body no gree me comment for your transcript. Gurus biko take over grin
However, I think you have great responses, kinda shows you know what you want. Yet, judging from your past experience, I think your focus shouldn't just be on "what to say" but "how to say what needs to be said". I mean your delivery. You would need intensive sessions of mock interview, someone needs to drill you hard so you can get comfortable with PRESSURE. Pressure is the enemy!
A friend once told me it's not bad to stutter, it shows you are human and not a robot that memorized answers, but he also said "don't stutter too much, you will ruin the communication"
I wish there was more I could do for you, I am sorry.
I wish you well, let's go get that visa.

Abort! Abort!! Abort!!!
I was kidding oooo. I think you should search yourself, no one can answer that question for you but I could give you an example.
My friend decided to study nursing because when her father was terribly ill and admitted at the hospital, he was ignored by the nurses and eventually died. In that pain she vowed that she would become a nurse and the change she desires would begin with her...
This is not super story. My point is you need to find the answer for yourself, by yourself so when you are responding to the question, it would flow freely from within and not some memorized or generic gyitubglprdduzxcb!
I wish you well.

My heart goes out to everyone who got hurt in here today. I wish I could hug you right now; you didn't deserve to be "casualties" of a war of words that should never have begun in the first place, a war you neither saw coming nor was "prepared" to fight.
People often say "sticks and stones may break my bones but words would never hurt me". That's not true. Words spoken or written can hurt a lot.
If someone gets hit by a bullet, chances are they'd survive if they get swift medical attention. I mean they could undergo surgery and the bullet could be taken out, right?
But when words hit you, especially hurtful, harsh or bitter remarks, who do you run to? I mean surgeons can't stitch emotional wounds, they can't even see it, to start with.
You are the only one who knows how much it hurts and where exactly it hurts.
Sharwama believes words should be used to build people up and not tear them apart.
She wishes people would be more careful with their choice of words.
It's okay to call a spade a spade but HOW we call it, is also very important. No one has ever died from giving or receiving constructive criticism, maybe we could choose that more often. Maybe we could choose kindness more often. Maybe we could imagine walking in someone else's shoes more often...
Once again, my heart goes out to anyone who got hurt in here today. I'm so sorry. I see you, I wrote this for you my friend.
I hope this gets to you in time, I hope I'm not too late.
May the force be with you!

He said it's God , he said its a Miracle , yes thats what he believe , leave it at that, is it your miracle? Your oversabi seems too much Alaye

We go on and on bashing mysteries, miracles, religion...God.. whatever our comprehension of science cannot explain. We elevate empirical science to levels that Darwin and Freud never even imagined.

Whatever cannot pass our basic tests of empiricism is untrue and unacceptable. Why not? Science has always got our backs; antibiotics, airplanes, telephony, information..., science is there, handling it all with gusto.

But we forget that the simple things of life; love, laughter, pain, joy, happiness, agony, sorrow all defy empiricism. You cannot synthesize laughter in a lab nor happiness in a petri dish. You cannot bottle joy for sale nor peace as tablets. There's no agar to culture a smile and brew pain. No matter our gains in science, death defies pathology and psychiatry cannot reach the bottom of the human mind.

Should we continue to accept that all we see is all there is? Should we elevate science to that podium above all else because it peeps into the galaxies and tells us of the birth of stars and black holes? Why were the stars born?

If science on its match to unravel the mysteries of existence taught the discerning mind anything, it is ad TS Elliot puts it, that realization that "all our knowledge leads us closer to our ignorance," for the more we know, the more we know we do not know.
Those with true knowledge will develop a sense of awe and bow (even while still searching!); the man with half-knowledge will mount the chariot of banal hubris and go gallop to town spewing inanities at faiths and those who bow.
My friend, I believe you can make something more out of this response. You drew inspiration and you 've made magic. I hope you know what to do with it grin

Hello evryone, Am new one this page. I appreciate and love every effort evryone is making on this page.

My interview is JUNE 3RD, and this is my prepared transcrpit below.

I welcome your corrections.

ME- Good morning (with a smile)

V.O- Good morning

V.O- What are you going to do in the United States?

ME- I am to study Masters in Physics.

V.O- Which school are you going to study at?

ME- Stephen F Austin University.

V.O- How did you get to know about the school of your choice?

ME- I got to know about the school while I was researching about schools for my academic pursuit, which started in 2017, using tools like Princeton review, usnews.com, www.univ.cc and I came up with the school.

V.O- How many schools did you apply to?

ME- I applied to two schools

V.O-Namely?

ME- Stephen F Austin, Georgia Southern,

VO- Why did you choose the school?

ME- SFA is a comprehensive institution dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship. Also the school also has a well structured master’s degree program in physics. I also noticed the personal attention shown to me by the professors I reached out to them before I finally accepted the offer.

V.O- What are the courses you will be taking?

ME- Nuclear Physics, Atomic Structures, Classical mechanics, Electromagnetic waves, Advance Quantum Mechanics.

V.O- I see you got a GA, What are your responsibilities?

ME- I will be working with the undergraduate students in a specific course, I provide support for the faculty member in charge, and, in some cases, I will teach the course as the primary instructor, under the guidance of a faculty member.

V.O- Name some of your professors.

ME- Dr. Harry Downing, Dr. Dan Bruton

V.O- how long will you be in the US?

ME- 24 Months.

V.O- What is your research interest?

ME- My research interest is nuclear energy.

V.O- Why did you choose this course?

ME- Master degree in physics will broaden my horizon and will better position me in my field when I return to Nigeria because at the moment I head a project which aligns with my research interest, which entails generating clean power from water. This process produces H and O, the both known to aid combustion.

V.O- when did you graduate?

ME- Sept 2015

V.O- What have you been doing since 2015?

ME- After school I went for my 1-year compulsory service NYSC, where I serve as a Physics Instructor at XXXX , then I got an offer with XXXX in Lagos for the position of an electrical engineer.

V.O- What will you do after your studies?

ME- I will return to Nigeria to introduce the modern technologies of my profession into the power sector. Also Nigeria has a large population that would readily buy my power solutions ideas and I would like to be an authority in providing credible solutions to Nigerian industries.

V.O- Where will you be staying in the US?

ME- I will be staying within the school’s facilities.

V.O- did you take any standardized test.

ME- yes, I did, GRE and Toefl

V.O- What did your respective score?

ME- 287 and 83 respectively.

V.O- Have you travelled out before?

ME- No sir, because I have never had a reason to travel until after now. And it is important I do now because of my program.

V.O-Typed for a while and says "I have approved your visa."

Me: Thank you.

@Lagosismyhome, @shawama, @wretch32 and others.

I am not sure the masters have seen this but the apprentice has and she would like to make the following observations grin
1)" SFA is a comprehensive institution dedicated to excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship. Also the school also has a well structured master’s degree program in physics." This response is generic.
There are so many schools that are dedicated to ... and there are many schools that have well structured M.Sc programme in physics. The question is why this school, why does this school stand out for you amongst the rest, what is that special thing about this school that appeals to you, that prompted you enough to apply in the first place!
You get that answer and you put it in a sentence. End of story grin
2)"I will return to Nigeria to introduce the modern technologies of my profession into the power sector. Also Nigeria has a large population that would readily buy my power solutions ideas and I would like to be an authority in providing credible solutions to Nigerian industries."
I am not sure how I feel about this response. It's kinda hard to believe you'd do all these when you return. In two years time, who says your "power solutions ideas" won't be outdated, even if they are not, how are you so confident that your ideas would thrive in the market?
I am poking your response to show you it's not convincing at all. You even mentioned Nigerian industries, that's all encompassing! Try to carve a niche for yourself please.
Please do you think you can work on it a little bit grin
3) "Where will you be staying in the US?"
What is the exact name of the school facility? The library is within the "school facilities", the cafeteria is within the "school facilities" grin
If it's a dormitory or an apartment within the school, call it by it's name please.
I wish you well my friend, let's go get that visa gringringrin

Mayorsmart005:
Visa Interview @Abuja Embassy today, May 21.

My appointment was for 7:30am and I got there few minutes before this time. First was the warm welcome received from the "staple-your-documents guys" who almost did not allow the cab I boarded to park before opening the car door. "Bros, there's a special order of arrangement required for your documents, else they will send you back" others too were saying different things...I just said OK while I walked away. On getting in, I was amazed at the number of people already there...Pastors with collars, Revd Fathers in their robes, VIO in uniform, grandpas and grandmas, people wearing all manners of job ID cards. I joined the queue, had some documents checked, proceeded for biometrics and all the other kind of checks. All these took time, but was very orderly.

Finally, we got in and joined the interview queue. While waiting, I was watching what was going on in windows 6, 7, 8 and 9 where interviews were conducted. While the VOs in the other windows took their time to hear what people had to say, before either granting or denying them, the lady in window 6 hardly spent 2minutes before issuing blue paper to people...she was just dishing it out in less than 2 minutes. I prayed not to be interviewed by her. As usual, in less than two minutes, she handed the woman in my front a blue paper and called for the next which happened to be me (perhaps, I prayed amiss). In my mind, I just said, "Holy Spirit, take control".

Me: Good morning ma

VO: Good morning (while she stretched her hand for my passport and I-20). She stared at my I-20 for about 5 seconds

VO: Why are you going to the US?

Me: I'm going for my Doctorate degree in Chemistry at Florida International University.

VO: How did you know about the school?

Me: I made a search online about my research interest and the research of Dr. X of Florida International University appealed to me the most...(I still had more to say but she interrupted with the next question)

VO: Where did you have your previous degrees?

Me: University of Ilorin.

VO: So what will this degree do for you?

Me: Currently, I am a Lecturer in XYZ University and bagging this....(again, she interrupted with the next question)

VO: Are you married?

Me: Yeah, with a kid.

VO: Will your wife be joining you?

Me: She currently works here, so for now, I'll be going alone.

VO: Typed for a while and said "I have approved your visa."

Me: Thank you (with an American smile)

She then handed me the small congratulatory white paper and the one for the pick up locations. It's true you hardly hear the other things said after approval...I just knew she mentioned something like I-20. Others? I no hear am o.

Appreciation.
I might not have personally interacted with everyone on this platform but I have either directly or indirectly benefitted from the materials and information you shared here. They have really been of help. I am sincerely grateful and just want to use this opportunity to say a big "Thank You".

To God alone be all the glory!
Awww, I wish NL has better emojis to express how I felt while reading this.
Congratulations sir, I celebrate with you grin

Pls pardon my errors. I had to go stay with my Aunt at Lekki cos of distance (i stay at Agbara, lol). My appointment was for 8am, i got to the consulate by past 6am (my 1st time at the embassy), then those pestering agents started their wahala, thank God i ignored them.
I did all necessary checks, the CGI directed me to window 7 - the dark lady. She just denied the previous guy after spending over 5mins.
My turn;

VO: Goodmorning
Me: Goodmorning ma *smiling*

VO: Pass me you passport & I-20.
Me: I obliged.

VO: 1st question, How did you hear about the school. (Me that was expecting why are you going to the US).
Me: I heard about the school from a Final year doctorate student in the school who also finished from..(cuts me off) na wa o. (Btw, the school is Louisiana State University).

VO: Why going for a PhD in Chem. Engr.
Me: I want to be involved in Intensive research to help birth innovative solutions to ..(cut off don't give me generic answer).
Nigeria's population is increasing, so is the economic activity & requirement for energy, there is a need to transit to an Energy mix consisting majorly of renewable sources..(cuts off)

VO: How many schools did i apply to.
Me: 5. UToledo, Texas A&M, UColorado, North Carolina State Uni.

VO: What would my research be based on.
Me: Material Science/technology for renewable energy exploitation.

VO: What is my highest qualification.
Me: B.Sc

VO: What did i study in my B.Sc.
Me: Chem. Engr.

VO: Are you working?
Me: Honestly i am not currently working, i have been building myself, i just finished a course on Energy transitions organized my IFP schools.

VO: Online?
Me: Yes.

VO: When did you leave your last job.
Me: My Youth service (NAFDAC), that was in June 2018.

VO: What was my job description.
Me: told her

VO: What does the supplement mean on my I-20.
Me: *i wasn't expecting the question, it was written as Assistantship + supplement* I didn't really find out, i guess it is based on my Undergrad CGPA & Test scores, they decided to add the supplement.

VO: why didn't you ask.
Me: I felt it wasn't necessary at that time.

VO: Accomodation?
Me: I have been assigned a space on campus & i have paid the advanced rent, i have document to validate this.

VO: Am i married.
Me: No.

VO: Any kids.
Me: No.

VO: i would be approving your visa, * i actually heard everything she said* . Pick up from the location bla bla, do well to attend a predeparture orientation on July 18th bla bla. Gave me the white paper & the EducationUSA paper & my I-20.
Me: Thanks and have a nice day ma.

I thank God, it was all God's grace. I also appreciate y'all. Thanks Thanks Thanks.
More good news of Approval to come from this forum by God's grace.

Visa approved this morning at the Lagos consulate.
Got to the embassy around 5:30am for a 6:30am appointment. Joined the queue, did my biometrics and proceeded Window 2 for my interview. My interview was very short. This is my transcript as I remember:

V.O: Good morning.
Me: Good morning. How was your weekend.
V.O: Very well. Can you pass your documents please?
*passes documents and she examines them for about 10 seconds
V.O: So How did you get to know about this school?
Me: When I decided to apply to graduate school, I made research online about schools that offered research on grid integration of renewable energy resources and I came about Auburn University, amongst others.
V.O: How many other schools did you apply to?
Me: 8
V.0: Have you heard from all?
Me: No. I haven't heard from 3 schools.
V.O: How many schools have you been admitted to?
Me: 3 schools.
V.O: Can you name the schools you haven't heard from?
Me: I haven't heard from Iowa State, Virginia Tech and RPI.
V.O: Okay. Are you married?
Me: No.
V.O: Are you single?
Me: Yes I am.
V.O: Do you have any kids?
Me: No I dont.
V.O: Do you have any relative in the US?
Me: Yes, an aunt.
V.O: Where in the US is she?
Me: She's in Louisiana.
V.O: Congratulations, your visa will be ready in 3 days. You can pick it up at this location. You'll get a text from us when it is ready. Have a nice day.

Lol. To think I prepared all weekend to talk about my research and that wasn't even asked at all. Wasn't asked for GRE or Toefl scores or my funding. Felt rather anticlimatic as I was ready to answer questions about my research. lol. But regardless, I give thanks to God.

Grateful for this thread as it was very helpful in my preparation. Goodluck to everyone and see you in Trumpland or whoever owns the land in 2020.

Wow!
I am really speechless right now, like I am so so happy for you. Congratulations and cheers to more beautiful success stories.

Im so happy for the boy. He was denied at first trial in Jan(Mom given though), we quickly registered for SAT,deffered his admission and booked another interview appointment for July. For some reasons, the embassy mailed us that they have rescheduled his interview and boom, he was approved some hours ago.

His parents who were indifferent initially about this US stuff are now overjoyed. Thanks to all the people who helped with my questions

I love how one person breathes fire and the other, ice. I mean it's intellectually sensational and I get goosebumps a lot.

I will let the masters attend to this, but as an apprentice I have the following observations grin grin grin

1) You can't choose between two schools if one of them has rejected you.
2) "To identify the role that information and communication is a paper base test request system" There is no synergy between this response and microbiology.
3) "12 of August 2019/ 08 May 2019" These dates are not in order
4) "To have more opportunities to higher tiers employment, to become an expert and gain firsthand experience, to have sense of personal accomplishments, to also secure protection for career change." This sound like something you copied from somewhere, please don't be offended. It lacks personal touch or connection with YOU
5) "Yes I have a big family and they have been supportive and am going to certainly to miss them durning my studies buh I would make up for the loss time durning my holiday break" Is the additional information really necessary?
At the end of the day, it's not about big big grammar, it is about the power of conviction. Sometimes you just need few words/ sentences to make an impact.
I wish you well my friend, let's go get that visa grin

Chai!!! Humor at its best.. this is wonderful subtle humor. I found you downright hilarious. I have a personal preference for fairheart, you and few others comments here , Even today reading your past comments never fails to elevate my moods. For some reason this sticks in the mind. A well told fictious tale , funny and dramatic. The best light reading piece I ever found here . Keep shining
