Politics / Akala To Supporters: Join Me In APC by shehuolayinka(m): 7:14pm On Mar 01, 2019
A former governor of Oyo State Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has called on his supporters across the state to join him in his voyage to a new party, which he refrained from mentioning officially.

But The Nation can authoritatively confirm the new party is the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement by the Director General, Akala Campaign Organization, Chief Wale Ohu, the former governor, who was the governorship candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in the March 9 election, said going by the results of the February 23 presidential and National Assembly election, not much can be achieved in isolation.

The Nation had earlier reported his return to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as confirmed by a highly placed member of the party.

It was learnt that Akala refrained from announcing his formal return to the APC on Friday so as not to hurt the sensibility of ADP House of Assembly candidates who were still campaigning.

The leadership of the party was still holding consultations with the candidates as at press time.

This came as the former governor shunned the ongoing alliance meeting of opposition parties in the state on Friday.

While governorship candidates of other parties attended the meeting at Sen. Rashidi Ladoja’s Bodija, Ibadan home, Akala, who was the brain behind the alliance, was absent.

The Nation gathered that in a meeting with the ADP candidates on Thursday, the majority of them signaled intention to go on with their election under ADP, stressing that it was too late for them to back out from the race.

Akala’s statement read: “After a careful consideration of the results of the last Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives elections and in furtherance of the development, progress and peace of Oyo State, far-reaching decisions have to be taken and actualized.

“The ADP, after holding series of high-level consultations across Oyo State after the last general elections, has come to the conclusion that the sanctity, integrity and progress of Oyo State cannot and must not be compromised.

“We have felt the pulse of the people whose support has brought us this far: it is important that we dance when they play the tunes.

“We have given deep thoughts to the future of this state and have realized that not much can be realized in Isolation, hence the need to team up with the party that puts the interest of the masses on top of its priority list.

“Looking at the results of the last elections, we have realized the need to restrategise and ensure that Oyo State is not left out in the cold.

“To this effect, the Oyo state ADP and the Akala Campaign Organisation hereby call on all our members, teeming supporters and well-wishers across the state to come on board in this move towards positioning our state for better national interest.”

Politics / After Suspension, Okorocha Says Oshiomhole Is Blinded By 2023 Ambition by shehuolayinka(m): 6:59pm On Mar 01, 2019
Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has accused the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole of plotting to destroy the party in the Southeast geopolitical zone for his selfish political permutations in 2023.

The Imo governor, who was responding to his reported expulsion from the APC by the National Working Committee of the party, said that Oshiomhole is blinded by his 2023 ambition and has thrown caution to the wind in pursuing it.

Okorocha, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, noted: “Adams Oshiomhole was determined right from the outset to destroy APC in the Southeast and unknown to party chieftains from the zone who had genuinely supported his chairmanship.

“He is playing the politics of 2023 in 2019 and in playing it he has thrown caution to the wind”.

He went on: “In all the Southeast states there are crises and all arising from the fraudulent manner he conducted the primaries.

“In 2015, Governor Okorocha had joined the merger that gave birth to APC at the risk of his second tenure and was called all sorts of unprintable names.

“Yet, he won the governorship election, delivered 24 out of the 27 members of the House of Assembly for APC, two House of Representatives members and one Senator.

“In 2019, Oshiomhole felt that such a man should be treated with disdain. He handed over the governorship ticket of the Party to Hope Uzodinma who has never resigned his membership of the PDP on the floor of the Senate like others did and giving all kinds of flimsy excuses.

“And if Oshiomhole had meant well for APC and Imo people in particular, would he have given the ticket of the Party to a man facing five corruption charges and having travel ban slammed on him, to be the party’s Candidate”.

He added: “In the February 23, 2019 Presidential and National Assembly election, Governor Okorocha won in ten, out of the twelve Local Government Areas in Orlu zone to emerge winner for Imo West Senatorial District.

“He also delivered four House of Representatives Candidates on the platforms of APC and AA respectively, with one Senate Seat and two House of Representatives Seats outstanding.

“And when the APC members across the nation are still celebrating the success of the party in the Presidential and National Assembly elections, Oshiomhole in his wisdom or lack of it, felt that the best action in the circumstance was to suspend two governors who did well in the election, even when he played safe in 2015 and 2019 in Edo State without any known pressure.

“Again, Oshiomhole coming with the purported expulsion this time was only acting out of the fear that God in his infinite Mercy could give Governor Okorocha a role to play in the Senate, in the overall interest of the nation.

“The truth is that Oshiomhole is only labouring in vain to play his own part of the deal that warranted his giving out the tickets of the party to non-deserving elements like in the case of Imo.

“Finally, APC especially in the Southeast and in Imo in particular will outlive Oshiomhole.

“Men like him hardly sleep with their two eyes closed. They always sleep with their eyes open because they have murdered sleep with their actions and inactions.

“And unfortunately for him the purported expulsion can’t stand because the law has taken care of it even long before now”.

Politics / Atiku’s Agents Plan Lagos Takeover by shehuolayinka(m): 11:07am On Mar 01, 2019
Recuits Agbakoba, Odumakin, CSOs

A forceful takeover of Lagos is a “consolation prize” being contemplated by the camp of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar after a crushing defeat by President Muhammadu Buhari in last Saturday’s presidential polls, it was learnt last night.

The move was one of the resolutions at an emergency strategy meeting held by the Atiku team when it became apparent that President Buhari had won by a wide margin, the first being a formal rejection of APC’s victory as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Buhari polled 15,191,847 votes to defeat Atiku, who scored 11,262,978.

Even as the PDP flagbearer is still mulling his legal team to challenge Buhari at the tribunal, his strategists believe that taking over Lagos, the nation’s commercial never centre, will enable the opposition party become an effective countervailing force to APC controlling Abuja, the political headquarters.

To actualise the new plot, we can confirm that a huge war-chest has been mobilised by Atiku’s camp to finance ahead of the March 9 state election a vicious smear campaign against the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, believed to>>http://thenationonlineng.net/atikus-agents-plan-lagos-takeover/

Politics / It’s Over For Saraki Politically, Says Oshiomhole by shehuolayinka(m): 8:12pm On Feb 27, 2019
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole on Wednesday mocked Senate President, Bukola Saraki for losing his re-election bid.

He said though the ruling party had been planning to impeach the Senate President, it was better his constituents retired him politically from the Red Chamber.

He spoke with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari who was declared winner of last Saturday’s election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Oshiomhole also pointed out that there was apprehension before the February 23 presidential election over who was going to win the election.

He said President Buhari’s statement that the ruling party should be magnanimous with the victory was what was expected of a statesman.

According to him: “Even in victory, he sowed humility and hand of fellowship to those who share commitment to the future of Nigeria and contested against him. But in every race, there would always be a winner.”

Apparently referring to Saraki, who lost his bid to return to the Senate, Oshiomhole said: “People who came to the senate with less than a 100,000 votes and began to hold the country to ransom, their own people have recalled them home.

“While we were saying that we will impeach them, their people said they would rather bury them.

“Politically, now, they are out. It shows the power of democracy, it’s a leveler, an equalizer.

“You cannot be bigger than the people. Our people say that a politician is likened to an Okro tree. It should never grow taller than the person who planted it.

“And those who plant the political okro tree are the Nigerian people. I think, a couple of lessons have been learnt.

“This game is for those who are humble, those who believe in the people. There are no dynasties, the people are the sovereign.

“When they borrow you the power, remember, it is only lend to you, and it will expire, and it will require renewal. If you don’t behave, thy will remove you.”

On false prophesy about Nigeria, he said: “For those analysts who have been active since 1999 in his fourth republic, this is the most keenly contested election and my joy is that first, in the electioneering season, given all issues about security in Nigeria, there is no incident of terrorists attack except one or so in maybe Yobe or somewhere. That for me, to God be the glory.

“The second is people who had predicted that Nigerians are going to fight, are going to war and that we are preparing for a Second World War. I am sure again, they have been put to shame.

“I know that Nigerians believe in their country, we appreciate our friends but we also know that those friends will never accept us as citizens of their country.

“The only country we cannot be deported, the only country we don’t need visa to stay, no matter who you are, no matter what you do, is Nigeria.

“It is the only home we can truly call our own. Even for those who have multiple passports of various nationalities because their real country is Nigeria.”

Politics / Three Killed, Two Injured At Sapele by shehuolayinka(m): 4:53pm On Feb 23, 2019
At least three persons were feared dead and two others badly injured at a polling units in Amukpe area of Sapele town, Sapele council area of Delta state on Saturday.

Although most residents of the area who were found on the scene of the incident were unwilling to volunteer details of what happened for fears of becoming targets of the perpetrators of the attack, a source said those killed were victims of suspected armed thugs.

The Nation gathered that some armed persons emerged from the blues and opened fire on the voters who were on the queue, killing two persons instantly.

Three persons were reportedly rushed to the hospital, one of which reportedly died later.

Efforts to gather more details concerning the identities of the victims or whether the killers went away with election materials were fruitless as those met at the scene refused to talk to journalists.

An anonymous source, who spoke to The Nation at the scene of the incident, said the killers surfaced and started shooting at about 12:55pm.

According to him: “I’m not sure if they carted election materials away but I saw that the ground of the place was littered with election materials, giving me the impression that they only scattered the materials”.

However, when reached for confirmation, the Delta state Commissioner of Police, Adeleke Adeyinka, could not confirm the incident.

He said he wanted to get across to the people on the ground in Amukpe before he could say anything.

Another reliable security source confirmed the development to The Nation, saying “immediately we heard of the situation, we moved in to take over the area so as to stabilize it and prevent a further escalation of the situation”.

Meanwhile, voting was relatively peaceful in most other polling units as voters were seen casting their votes.

For instance, Sapele ward 7, units 7 and 8, along Ugberikoko Road, voters were still casting their votes at 2:09pm.

Literature / A Review Of The Book ‘fortuna In Lagos’ by shehuolayinka(m): 4:52pm On Jun 18, 2018
Fortuna in Lagos is a story from an film Un-shot script written in 2006. Fortuna in Lagos is a fictional piece of work , and is of interesting uniqueness because of the down- to-earth truthful fear exhibited by a mortal towards an immortal. Normally, authors write about love between mortals and immortals irrationally.

Is it really easy for a man to fall in love with a Goddess?. A personality who you know has some strange powers beyond your knowledge comes to love you and you would also love the personality back? Of course, this only happens in movies.

No author has yet written about fear to love an immortal even with the feelings growing from the mortal. Funny though, movies and books have established it in the minds of persons that it is easy to just go ahead and love, date or marry an immortal but Fortuna in Lagos tells how Chris kills his affections, feelings and love for Fortuna because of his fear of her powers. The first edition of this 167 page e-book boasts of 54,761 words under ISBN 9781387603534 Is sold for 5.50 USD online for now.

What is Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai about? Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai is a story about the truthful fear of confessing love to a higher power in a world of lower and same power . The goddess Fortuna escapes from trouble on planet Venus and meet with Chris in the city of Lagos who his afraid to confess his love for her.

The publications of this book was first done online at amazon on February 19 2018 and lulu.com on march 1 2018. It is about the goddess Fortuna, a resident of planet Venus. She possesses the power to give a chance for an attempt at something worthwhile which result in the acquisition of Fortunes.

Fortuna was loved by Venus de milo, the queen because of her uniqueness, respect and fear for the ruler of planet Venus the mention of Fortuna’s name as a possible choice for the throne angered the heiress Venus, who attacks Fortuna from which she escapes and find her self on earth in Lagos. Really , Fortuna wasn’t interested in the throne, she respected princess Venus and enjoys her lonely life. Mortal men have stopped meeting her because while many hate working hard to get a fortune,Other want it in a flash, impatient with the open chance she gives for the manifestation of the fortunes there of.

RAISED ISSUES :The story show cases Lagos and it attracting tourism beauties . A few of its aquatics splendor, cultural heritage especially the eyo masquerades. The new transport facilities that has made the city a rising development among its kind. The emergence of new sites on the island part of the city, where water has been pushed back for the creation of estate and mansions with sea views and overlooking oceans.

The ghetto and street of Lagos that have in printed determination on the minds of many raw talent and ideas and propelled there exit from the popular face to face rooms to bungalow and duplex in rising estates of the city.

It also clamors for investing in the show biz and entertainment industries of this most populated city in its continent.

Appreciating and giving a comprehend to the e-book Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai takes a lot of empathy because one needs to look seriously at the scenario of a love between man and god, a lower power and a higher power, an ordinary and a powerful personality.

EFECT OF THE BOOK: In the fiction movie twilight, Bella falls in love with the vampire Edward, with full knowledge of his abilities and power. She knew he could kill her with his finger, she also knew he was an immortal and would never grow old but like all movies she falls in love and even marries him.

In Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai the love Chris has for the goddess Fortuna couldn’t be demonstrated. It was better kept has admiration from afar.

Yes Fortuna was pretty, fair to look upon an endearing but according to Chris, which rational human being would really fall in love and go ahead to have a physical, loving and romantic relationship with a goddess.

Even the popular song by SIR VICTOR UWAIFO—GUITAR BOY, Calling for a song to be done for a mermaid popularly called mammy water in pidgin whenever a human see her. It sounds like a joke from the music maestro.

He advises the mortal not to run rather, to sing a song of sweet melody, a song of love. But we all know that this only happen in fiction movies and books. Many youth have a chance of becoming something big in life especially when they reside in a city like Lagos. The musicians and comedians of this land can attest that about 90% of them have their egg hatched in Lagos if not laid . The open arms , the foundation and investments coupled with the development and population of the citizen and non—citizens residing have given open doors to many and propel them to becoming stars today. So Chris and others have been able to get the avenue and stepping stone to greatness with what Lagos has laid for those who do not seek the white collar jobs which of course is packed full with on vacancy always.

Chris was a young man trying to get his talent to use and he could sing, he knew he had learnt it from the street after much teaching from goons and hustlers but lacked the confidence to face a stage crowd of which he failed when he finally atemted. but who would give him and many others another chance?. The story depicts what the city of Lagos has to offer both the residence and tourists alike. Lagos is a mega city that has a lot to offer everyone no matter the industry one belongs. The entertainment and hospitality industry has taken the highest share of occupying Lagos. The city boasts of night clubs, large entertainment ground and hotels, including (5 stars). It boasts of call-cabs and taxis, call- bikes, all at the top of your android internet enable phones.

Although Chris was a fine young man who passed through the street of his area in Fadeyi and came out clean without any connection with drugs, robbery, cultism, rape, and other social vices, he was also one of those youth that love to show-off with pretty ladies. Artistes like to be identified with very pretty women of which Lagos is full of. Their main motive is to cruise the city, walk on red carpets into shows, sit with the prettiest at entertainment and relaxation sport, appear on top magazines and have these pretty women as their baby mamas . Ann was pretty and Chris had seen that she wanted ready made men. He notice her lust and seductive antics towards Johnny T, the second richest musician in Lagos, but Chris still wanted to have her as his girl. He wanted hails and respect for being the boyfriend of such a pretty dark-skinned lady like Ann.

OMMITED ISSUES: The author omitted certain tourism places that Lagos has been beautified with recently. new mini parks for amusement relaxation and sight-seeing .Zoos, conservations center and wild-life parks have sprung-up and found a place on the island.

The new security outfit of the city called neighborhood watch and the citizen funded security trust fund have drastically reduce bank robberies and kidnappings that formally challenge the city. I would have loved to read more about Ann and the funny Jesu-seun Ojuelegba. Austin Anyai wrote that Ojuelegba does not mean eyes of the cane-holder. This is controversial because many believe “OJU” is a Yoruba word for eyes aslo a description of the area Ojuelegba on the internet boastfully translate “OJU” as eyes. I did some research by asking some Lagosians and Yoruba and scholars who regretted their assertion of the meaning of “OJU”

There are other Yoruba words that have “OJU” in them Yoruba words like Oju-Ona (the road place/path), Oju-Ofurufu (the hair place/path) e.t.c. The book also brings me to the knowledge that Ojuelegba is a household name, bore by Lagosians who are indigenous sons of the soil.

The book also refuses to mention the nation where Lagos is. But according to the author, his focus is on Lagos and the beauty it offers tourist to behold . Also Austin Anyai did not mentioned in book. He also omitted the largest church visited by foreigners in this continent i.e. The synagogue church of all nations led by TB JOUSHUA. There is no doubt that, the amount of foreign nationals that visits the synagogue are nearly half of the city’s recorded visitors.

The E-book Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai brings to fore the issue of the new addiction to the luxury of been in Lagos. It tells of the opportunities that await every skilled talented and innovating youth that are either residence or non residence, it also welcomes both white caller business and solution- providers who wants to join hands with the city’s government .

The different hidden desires and open ones of the characters mentioned cannot be over emphasized. Chris desires Ann but Ann want Johnny T. Manuel wants wealth, but get a sugar mommy. Seun desires pretty curvy women, but get none. Venus De-milo is disappointed that the next ruler of planet Venus is a LovePeddler to mortal. Venus the heiress desires love and sex more than anything else. Artemis desires a lover but want to remain pure forever. We all have costly desires , but because of the thought of the satisfaction to be personally derived, we do not look beyond it .

Biggest of all my criticism his ability to brings us new and unpopular mythology of other immortals especially goddess of the popular roman and Greek empires. Movies and book have always featured Zeus, Poseidon, pazeus , Hercules , Thor e.t.c , but Austin Anyai in the book Fortuna in Lagos reviwed women immortals that have not received any form of recognition for their existence and powers. Funny though his ideas at connecting their personalities with their origin, love, battles and decision makes the book really interesting to read.

RECOMMENDATION:I recommend the book “Fortuna in Lagos” by Austin Anyai to all citizens of great nations and beyond. To those who have never been to Lagos since birth, to all those seeking a city for vacation and tourism in a populated, friendly, hospitality, aquatic city where under-development is fast becoming a thing of the past which is also a reason for the next business to invest, to all lovers of practical things and actions rather than abstract theories- a down to earth book, and to all who love women and urban contemporary stories. the book is a sure bet for a sweet siesta and a little or more of things that make the city fondly called Lasgiddy.

COMMENDATION;I commend the author, Austin Anyai for not waiting and wasting his time and talent in writing for help to publish the hard copy of this book. With this online publication, on this two big publishing renowned companies, Austin Anyai has put himself on the market for either an author agents or a movie production companies to come calling. Also thumbs-up to him for writing about Lagos yet not connected or connecting to any of the citiy’s personalities or officials for favor recognition and recommendation. Despite his condition as a glaucoma patient, he his not hindered, obstacle or submerged in his unfortunate visual , impaired challenge. He his a first-time author who wants to be criticized for his talent as a book-write. His innovation in creating this new and Untold-of characters from his fictional ideas picks him out among up and coming writers who started late but heading for a place beyond where writers finish.

The ebook could be gotten online at Lulu and Amazon

Politics / Offa Robbery: Nigerians And The Love For Hasty Conclusion Fallacy by shehuolayinka(m): 10:28am On Jun 04, 2018
Bukola Saraki is a known unrepentant criminal, but his current problem with the Police is being misunderstood by a lot of Nigerians.

The #OffaBankRobbery suspects never said in their testimonies released by @PoliceNG that they were sent to rob by Bukola Saraki. What they said was that they are political thugs that work for the Senate President.

A car used in the robbery were linked to the yeye baba Adinni of Ilorin, with the plate number of the said car bearing his name.

The good boys of Ilorin are known to be hired thugs for election disruption, intimidation and threatening of opponents during and after election.

Saraki opponents using the Police for their political games are not dumb or stupid. It is politics, a very dirty one and the best way to ridicule/clampdown on your opponent is to rubbish him with his dirty secrets.

Even the hasty compiled statement released by Saraki houseboy Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed is self-incriminating.

Bukola Saraki is a bad person, a very bad one. People supporting the criminal I want to believe don't know him. He's a monster that in a sane environment would be locked up in a dungeon for eternity.

If people who are condemning the Police and supporting Saraki know the kind of evil person he's, they won't be opening their mouth to support him. Societal generale, he ruled Kwara for 8 years & completely nothing to show for it, he's fond of sponsoring thugs to intimidate opponents.

The fraud perpetrated in societal generale by the Saraki family, which he was the arrowhead, ended life, destroyed families, rendered people homeless and till date, some still haven't shaken off from the shock of losing all their savings to the Saraki fraud Family.

Only if Nigerians could read in between the lines and understand. Normally this will not hold in law court, he can't be charge to court for empowering people (thugs) and even the suspects have already said the robbery had nothing to do with Saraki, but that they work for him as political thugs during election period.

That itself under a sane and normal environment punishable, but Nigeria is not a normal entity.

Politics / Diasporans Supporting Bigot Buhari Should Shut Up by shehuolayinka(m): 7:09pm On Apr 20, 2018
Lee Kuan Yew didn't wait for Singaporeans to change their obnoxious attitude before introducing changes into the country.

Singapore, just like current Nigeria was so backward and lawless. It institutions were dysfunctional, filthy and corrupt laden.

Nigerians in 2015 voted for Buhari because they wanted change. They wanted changes to the dysfunctional institutions and governing system.

No one is happy that the Judiciary favours elites and that laws are meant for those who can buy the Judges. We wanted things to be different, that was why most of us went for a man believed to be a no nonsense and ascetic retired Ex- General.

If Nigerians wanted to continue with a dysfunctional institutions and the way we have been governed for 16 years by the People Deceive Party, we would have stayed glued with the drunkard from Otueke and his band of corrupt officials.

When people outside sit down behind their phones/laptops to insult us, label us corrupt and hard to manage then they nothing about us.

You can't be in a system that works and because of your low thinking faculty expect us to always smile at the foolishness and condescending attitude of a government we supported and voted in.

If you're thinking we are happy with a dysfunctional institutions, happy with bastardized country, then you need someone to examine your wack brain.

You are outside because of a dysfunctional system, t
You left the shores of this country because someone, somewhere believes that the commonwealth of this country belongs to him alone.

We wanted a change to our institutions and that's was why we mistakenly voted for the religious and ethnic bigot in Aso Rock.

Our hospitals are an upgraded mortuary, our roads are death traps. Our educational system is so bad that when you leave school after four or five years spent you would have learnt nothing.

Our security operatives only respect the elites, they treat us, the majority like animals. The military has been compromise, the police is no good. The best are used as maiguards and bodyguards for the elites.

Buhari bigotry is out of this world, no leader in the world demeanor will reek with smile when people are being butchered in their lands. No sensible leader will favour an ethnic tribe over another.

My first grouse with the bigot Mohammedu Buhari stem from his visible joy whenever Fulani Herdsmen carry out mass killing in Middle Belt. He is always happy that Fulani terrorist group are raping women, killing children, pillaging and sacking people from their lands.

His body language and response to every mass killings shows a man in a joyous mood whenever herdsmen carry out attacks against locals.

Is it also our fault that Fulani Herdsmen go into houses and end an entire family? Are we to be blamed for the high illiteracy level in the country? Are we to also be blamed for the disgusting state of our hospitals?

His economy blueprint is anti-people, anti-progress and anti-sense. His security hierarchies are filled with a particular ethnic-tribe. Who does that? An ethnic group where a bad few are now carrying out genocide across the country.

He was quick to label IPOB terrorist, quick to brutally clampdown on Shi’a, but has refused to label killer herdsmen a terrorist group.

Diasporans who know nothing about us should stop throwing invectives at us and blaming us for the current despicable state of Nigeria. No be we say make you become toilet watcher.
Education / Video: LASPOTECH Students Endorse Ambode For Second Term by shehuolayinka(m): 3:27pm On Apr 05, 2018
Students of the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH) have endorsed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos for a second term in office.

The students led by the President of the Students’ Union Government (SUG), Jubril Adewale, in a statement made available to The Nation on the launch of the “Direct Campaign & Enlightenment (DiCE)’’ initiative in Ikorodu, said endorsing the governor for a second term was borne out of the need to ensure he continued his education improvement drive in the state.

The union also said the initiative will sensitise residents and students on the need to register and collect Permanent Voters Card,(PVCs).

He said the DiCE initiative was aimed at engaging students on a one on one basis, convincing, persuading and arming them with information on the governor’s achievements in the education sector, to enable them in turn engage their parents.

“We are here today representing the 25,000 students of this great citadel of learning and excellence to say that Gov. Ambode should continue with his good work and determination to make education in the state the hallmark of excellence in Nigeria”.

“The Governor has proven beyond reasonable doubts, his concern for the sustenance of qualitative educational system in Lagos State”.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8l_nvJebvs

“LASPOTECH has benefited immensely from the administration in the area of the ‘Ready-Set-Work’ initiative, an education value added scheme for tertiary institutions in Lagos”.

“He has also completed the construction of Block ‘A’ of the School of Technology Complex as well as approved the construction of drainages and car parks for the complex, all of which are ongoing.’’

He added that other abandoned projects set for completion by the governor included the construction of a High Capacity Auditorium, Construction of an Administrative Block and Sports Complex.

He therefore solicited the support of students and residents in the state to ensure they register and collect their Permanent Voters’ Card to enable them cast their votes during the 2019 General Elections.

Also speaking on the DiCE initiative, Semiu Balogun, the Union’s Public Relations Officer said the initiative is hinged on the institution’s 25,000 student population to achieve its goal to have the governor re-elected.

“We are practically preparing our 25,000 students (part time and full time), to convince at least two parents each with the direct campaign and enlightenment; you can not underestimate the multiplier effects of this initiative.

“In addition to canvassing for votes, we would monitor and sensitise the student populace on the need to register and collect their PVC because a vote canvassed without a PVC is sheer waste of time and resources.

“We shall sensitise the public on registration and collection of PVC and consolidate it with canvassing for votes using the DiCE initiative, which is neither a hired nor an accidental idea.

“It is the Union’s ingenuity, passion to support the re-election bid of Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode and our strategy goes beyond rhetorics and showmanship; but a complete practical approach to winning election,’’ he said.

Politics / Nigeria Military As A Political Party by shehuolayinka(m): 11:18am On Mar 25, 2018
One thing we should always understand is that the military is the most important institution in any country. It continuous survival and functionality transcend to the continuous existence of a State.

Politicising, and putting ethnic and religion ahead in formation and operations of the military will fast track the demise of the country.

The Mohammadu Buhari administration has completely ridicule and useless the Nigerian military. Now a political party. A political party situated in Northern part of the country.

Politician's for years, have been trying to wriggle the control of the military and sadly they got successful in getting the military bend to it whims and caprice.

In every nation of the world, the military act as the backbone and uphold the sovereignty of the State. It is the most important institution. The very heartbeat of a country.

But over here in Nigeria, the military which should safeguard and uphold the continuous existence and stability of the country, has been the one (maybe) inadvertently spearheading it destruction.

Truth be told, It didn't start with PMB, but the ethnic jingoist just only made what we have been suspecting that politicians have overtaking the command of the military to be true.

The Nigerian military, which was once said to be the best in the Africa is now a shadow of itself, just like the Police that has been made useless and toothless by years of elites interference, coupled with past and current government ethnic and religious biasness in the Police in terms of promotions, recruitment, which untimely led to the comatose state of the Police, we are now witnessing the demise of Nigerian Armed Forces, which is even happening fast.

Buhari came and went on a Northern agenda. Polarising the country along ethnic and religion, with his utterance and appointment.

His northernisation of his government, began with the military. Fixing cronies and bigot into sensitive security post.

Are we expecting things to be OK, when the commander in chief, is not bother about the sad utterance made by the IGP, Minister of Defence over the killings perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen? expecting the military not to collude with killer herdsmen when those who should halt the advancement and killings perpetrated by herdsmen are of the same ethnic and religious group?

The question now is not about T. Y Danjuma questionable and gory past, but about Mohammedu Buhari well thought plan of knowingly turning Nigeria into a second Somalia and Afghanistan.

Crime / Is Nigeria Not At War? by shehuolayinka(m): 4:50pm On Mar 15, 2018
For years we have handled crisis by throwing mellow pills at it instead of looking for a way to end it permanently.

In the Q1 of 2018, 1358 deaths has been recorded, that is an average of 19 people per day. While Syria which has been in an unending civil in the same Q1 in 2018 recorded at least 342 children and 600 adults killed, a total of 942 killings, which is an average of 13 death per per day.

Apart South West & some part of South East, everywhere has been militarise.

Fulani herdsmen, which the President is a member, Boko Haram, Banditry, Kidnappers, Ritualist, militants, Militias, etc. are all carrying out massive killings and looting.

Who said Nigeria is not at war? We are and have been at war with each other for years and the funny part is that our elites have always known how to bring out that pills whenever any crisis arises, crisis that could upturn the status quo.

But now, no mellow pills will work again. We have now reached a fearsome crescendo. A point of no peace.

Cheta Nwanze, a security analyst with SBM Intelligence in Lagos, succinctly capture and incredibly explained what will become of Nigeria if we continue shutting down crisis without trying to end it permanently.

“Nigerian state has worsened tribal tensions in the country by failing to address past occurrences”.

“In the absence of justice, such a collective guilt mindset will continue to prevail, and when we keep shutting down people who want to remember their dead, rather than let them air their grievances, we only add more heat to the pressure cooker without letting steam to escape”.

Politics / … Not Interested In Ending Fulani Herdsmen Killings by shehuolayinka(m): 9:47am On Feb 19, 2018
President Muhammadu Buhari continuous lukewarm attitude towards mass killings perpetrated by herdsmen in Benue and other part of the country risk bringing the country down and turning Benue State into second Borno, coupled with the continuous tagging of Fulani (herdsmen) as murderers.

People are right to feel afraid over Fulani herdsmen actions, the stories of how Fulanis became part of Nigeria is (stupidly) enough to strike fear.
I had thought the corrupt laden government of Goodluck Jonathan would be the one to disintegrate Nigeria, was expecting Muhammadu Buhari government to be the one that would move us closer to explosion and disintegration.

He, just like most past northern president is clearly supervising a Northern agenda government, selective anti-corruption fight, cronyism and clannishness.

The country is in chaos, hunger is rife and people are visibly angry.

I fear for Nigeria.

Politics / A Bigger Problem Awaits Us If We Disintegrate by shehuolayinka(m): 6:06pm On Feb 18, 2018
The only thing keeping Northern Nigeria from not becoming a second Somalia or Afghanistan is Southern Nigeria.

Disintegrate Nigeria, then have a failed Republic of Northern Nigeria in months and not years.

Republic of Southern Nigeria will not be spared from the crisis that will engulf it new neighbour (Northern Nigeria).

Breaking up ain’t an option. If we keep on pushing for it and it becomes a success, no military might from any breakaway region, will keep it safe from the marauders and influx of refugees from the northern part.

So it’s better we find a common ground or solution to the wrangling existing among us, and let move the f...king country forward or still restructure.

Surely, there was once a unified country, not anymore.
Foreign Affairs / Jerusalem: Trump's Action Will Lead To Bigger Problem by shehuolayinka(m): 10:30am On Dec 10, 2017
An uprising is eminent in the middle east and the first to go will be those who stood still and the Arabians who surreptitiously supported President Donald Trump action.
Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, the so-called Saudi Arabia reformer is not taking into cognizant the hatred Arabians and Muslims have for Israel and America.

One thing people need to know is that Donald Trump wouldn't have taken the decision to name Jerusalem as the capital of Israel without a nod from Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The funny part is that the reason Crown Prince and other Arab States are cosying up more to America and Israel is to decimate the growing popularity and influence of Iran in Middle East, which to them is a bigger issue than Palestine cause, but Trump’s actions, which is witnessing surprising silence from Saudi Arabia will directly be in favour of the Islamic Republic Iran.

Jordan may witness some issues in coming days, due to weakness in standing up against and countering Donald Trump and Israel, but because of it being an Hashmite ruling class, it may survive but not Saudi Arabia.

Let just say this will badly affect the popularity and influence Saudi Arabia enjoys in the Middle East and beyond.

Donald Trump once again has shown his lack of understanding international politics and the more reason he shouldn’t have been elected or spending more time as the president of the world most powerful country.

He, like the bigot and bias he has been depicted to be, has shown that America, and moreso Americans in general can’t be trusted to be genuine moderate negotiator in the Israel and Palestine crisis.

Whilst every American President have avoided naming Jerusalem the capital of Israel due to the importance of Jerusalem to Palestinians and the violent reaction that always trail any changes to the statue quo in Jerusalem.

While the bias Trump in his speech claimed that the United State is openly still in support of peace talks for a “lasting settlement” what his unthought declaration does, is to provide the impetus for extremists to attack America interest around the world and Israel.

While his statement shows he is backing Israel to go all out to claim the entire Palestine land, Trump seem to be believe his action is setting the motion for a final solution to decades crisis.

"We are not taking a position on any final status issues, including the specific boundaries of the Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem, or the resolution of contested borders. Those questions are up to the parties involved" Trump said.

We hope to await what the coming days will bring, but the statement credited to Hamas leader Ismail Haniya, gives a clearer picture of what the region will look like.

In a speech in Gaza City on Thursday, Haniya said the US decision is a "war declaration against Palestinians", and called for a new Intifada, or uprising.

Haniya said US President Donald Trump 's recognition "killed" the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

"This decision has killed the peace process, has killed the Oslo [accord], has killed the settlement process," he said.

"The US decision is an aggression, a declaration of war on us, on the best Muslim and Christian shrines in the heart of Palestine, Jerusalem. We should work on launching an Intifada in the face of the Zionist enemy," Haniya said.

Whilst I believe in a all out settlement of a two state solution, a more broad solution could be the United Nation taking over control of Jerusalem, whilst Tel Aviv and Ramallah both remains the capital of a future Israel and Palestine State respectively.

The world badly need the United Nation, it need it to stand up against a bully and make it adhere to world rules.

It needs to stand up from the bench it had been for years and tackle the world problem and let morons continue making decisions that would plunge the world deep into crisis.

Muslims would not let this slide, Trump made this decision without thinking about the consequence, moreso on his citizens scattered across the world.

Foreign Affairs / Saudi Arabia, Israel Normalisation May Backfire by shehuolayinka(m): 3:41pm On Nov 22, 2017
It is no news that Saudi Arabia, some Arab countries and Israel are already working towards normalisation I of relations.

This is good, but it would have been better, if the intention or reason behind it wasn't undermining Palestine struggle or even working to counter the growing influence of Iran, Hezbollah in the Middle East.

The intention seem to be the fight for who is superior in the middle east and Muslim world

Everyone want an end to the Israel vs Palestine/Muslim crisis, and no one in his right thinking mind would be happy, except… that the crisis rages on without any solution to finding lasting peace.

It has raged for so long and an end to it will be good. But the manner and pattern in which Saudi Arabia, Israel and America (Trump) seem to be handling the crisis is dangerous and will definitely backfire.

A thaw in relationships between Jews and Arabs is is okay and should be supported by all.

Mohammed Bin Salman, the brilliant and young Crown Prince much with his intention of easing and relaxing some of Saudi Arabia harsh and stupid rules is well welcome to join in the politics world.

His efforts toward transforming Saudi Arabia from self-reliance on oil to other means of generating should be applauded, but his steps when it comes to international politics and affairs of the Muslim world, notably the Palestine crisis may well cut short his promising and bright future as king.

The radical reformer has already started, with the ongoing purge of those who may stand in his way when he finally assume the leadership role, coupled with that he is also supervising a war in Yemen, confronting Qater, Lebanon, and scheming to reduce the influence of Iran in the Middle East and beyond.

His plan of normalising relations with the Jewish state, without first agreeing on a favourable solution to Palestine and Israel's crisis will in a long run be detrimental and counterproductive to Saudi Arabia.

It is known a fact that majority of Muslims have pure disdain and hatred towards Israel.

Any solution that will be against a Palestinian Statehood and Israel total withdrawal from Palestinian lands and ending of blockage will ignite a more intense wave of sympathy towards Palestine cause.

You expect Donald Trump, the erratic and unstable President of America to behave in such manner towards Palestinians.

His announcing that the license of the PLO office in Washington will not be renewed, shows he is picking sides and has giving a clear understanding on his pattern of finding a solution to the decades old problem.

You would expect it from any American President, but not Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia supporting Trump plan by delegitimasing Palestinian with the supposed peace plan put forward by US President Donald Trump's special adviser, Jared Kushner, which is believed to favour Israel, will in long run affect Saudi Arabia and it voices in the Muslim world.

Helping Donald Trump push the deal on Palestinians and forcing them to accept it might as well pit it against Arab communities, Iran it harsh enemy and Muslim majority countries that have for years stood their grounds on the Palestinian cause.

It's claimed by some that Saudi Arabia intention of normalising ties with Israel is based on wanting Israel to be part of a deterrence plan against the Persian State in Middle East, but it will only do the opposite, “legitimising Iran”.

The answers he is getting from the calculator he is using will only fasten his downfall, and needs to be modify or change it.

Normalising ties with Israel without a solution to the crisis between Palestine and Israel in essence will delegimatising Palestinians and it cause.

His actions will only help Iran and Hezbollah and thereby unstabling the Middle East more.

His actions will only help Iran and Hezbollah and thereby also unstable the even Middle East more.

Foreign Affairs / Middle East Is Changing And Riyadh Ain't Happy About It by shehuolayinka(m): 11:08am On Nov 13, 2017
The disagreement between the Persian State and Saudi Arabia, has been on for centuries.
The geopolitical crisis now witnessed now, birthed after the death of Prophet Mohammed on who should become the next leader.

The Sunni and Shiites stupid animosity has been on for centuries.

A crisis that has led to the death of millions of people, now again rearing its ugly head.

Both have no diplomatic or any bilateral relationship.

They have been strained over different issues for centuries such as the interpretations of Islam, aspirations for leadership of the Islamic world and Middle East, oil export policy and relations with the United States, Russia, Israel, Africa and other Western countries.

Although Saudi Arabia and Iran are both Muslim-majority nations and follow and rule through Islamic scripture, their relations are fraught with hostility, tension and confrontation, due to differences in political agendas, strengthened for their differences in faith.

Saudi Arabia is a right-wing conservative Sunni Islamic kingdom with a tradition of close ties with the United States and Europe.

Iran is a Twelver Shia Islamic Republic founded in an anti-Western revolution with close ties to Russia, China and Cuba. Both are seen to have aspirations for leadership of Islam, and have different visions of stability and regional order.

Prior to the Iranian revolution, which brought to power the Islamic State of Iran, led by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in 1979, Saudi Arabia was the indisputable power house of Islamic States and believed to be the home of every Muslims in the world.

The birth of a Shitte Republic, a stone throw caused ripples and uneasiness in Riyadh.

This brought about changes and unexpected shift in the way things were done in the Middle East.

After the revolution, Tehran was able to build itself; economically, politically and military.

The unexpected revolution brought about a populist government. Rather than collapse, even after an invasion led by late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and supported by some Middle Eastern States, Europe and America, Iran power and influence instead of waning has been increasing over the years.

The Syrian Civil War, not only gave rise to the Iranian influence, but also helped in placing Hezbollah, a Shi'ite political organization in Lebanon more control and influence in Middle East, same with the Houthis rebels in Yemen.

It militias, contributed to the defeat of Al-Baghdadi led Islamic State in Syria and Iranian militias in Iraq.

Iran is certainly an indisputable super power house, easily can't be pushed aside, shut down, nor trampled upon.

Saudi Arabia fear this. Which is why it seeks to cause crisis in countries Iran has influence in.
The impulsive and inexperience Crown Prince, Sheik Mohammed Bin Salman backed by also an impulsive and erratic Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu want a quick fix to Iran's growing influence.

Though, Israel is fully equipped and capable enough to stage a war against Hezbollah or Iran, but it would be fighting from all front, with Hezbollah having thousands of rocket that can reach Israel even with it anti-missiles defence system, also with Iranian militias in Syria, not also forgetting Hamas in West Bank.

It is believed in some quarters that the Saudis bankrolled rise of the Islamic State so as to counter growing opposition influence in the middle east.

It is also widely believed that it forced Saad Hariri, Lebanon Prime Minister’s resignation and believed to have placed him under house arrest, to ignite a sectarian crisis, that may lead to civil war and subsequently plunge the unstable Lebanon into another crisis, which in the process will badly affect Hezbollah and thereby reducing put a stop to the growing influence of Hezbollah in Lebanon and elsewhere.

The question now is, will Saad Hariri allow himself to be used by Saudis in destabilising his country just like what they did and still doing in Yemen in the name of confronting Iran?

Foreign Affairs / What Was Saudi Arabia Expecting From The Houthi Rebels? by shehuolayinka(m): 5:52pm On Nov 11, 2017
Was Saudi Arabia expecting the Houthi rebels in Yemen to stand by and get destroyed completely by its bombs.

The Yemenis rebels may have gotten the missiles from Tehran, but Yemen since 2015 has been under the bombardment of Saudi Arabia military planes.

They constantly bomb Yemen, killing defenceless women and children, but when the Houthi finally fire back, Riyadh claims it’s unjust.

Saudi Arabia blockage is now pushing Yemen into worst famine witnessed in decades by Yemenis.

Mohammed Bin Salman, the Crown Prince spearheaded and destroyed Yemen.

The people don’t matter when it comes to Saudi Arabia cause. They don’t care about the children and what their bombs keeps on doing to this kids.

Pains and agony of Yemenis malnourished children, young and old women seem not to bother them.

Who does that. Yemen is the poorest Middle Eastern State that has been for years ravaged by countless wars and political instability.

Saudi Arabia is beginning to lose its grip and control in the Middle East, the fear of playing second fiddle to Tehran is causing dissatisfaction within the power brokers in Riyadh, Washington, Europe.

It has lost in Syria, Hezbollah is gaining grounds in Lebanon. Qatar now prefer to be friends with those at Tehran than at Riyadh.

In this changing time, being an ally to Tehran is more productive and good, than being friend with Riyadh and also having to deal with it controlling and domineering attitude.

Politics / Buhari As A Mistake Nigerians Should Never Repeat by shehuolayinka(m): 8:06pm On Nov 04, 2017
Monday is a five year old boy. His father owns a mechanic workshop. A business that was thriving and booming way before Buhari’s ascension, just like everyone before the man made recession started.

What riles and irritate Nigerian mostly about corruption practises, is the one perpetrated by government officials, who should know better.

You expect a local government chairman, governor, Assembly members and President to be sound and devoid of insanity and spirits of stealing and embezzlement.

You expect a government to know his right from left. A government official that can’t explain the cause of diseases has no business in governance, same as one who believes in propaganda.

Prior to 2015 election, there was media frenzy about the administration of Goodluck Jonathan. Everywhere, major media houses, print, broadcast and online pushed to our throat the wanton embezzlement and insensitiveness of the government led by Goodluck Jonathan to the suffering of Nigerians.

Just like everyone, Monday’s father got hit and became dissatisfied, with the administration of Former president Goodluck Jonathan.

The everyday release of outrageous missing figures and even the annoying silence from the Otueke man, infuriated him.

He like many, voted against the Jonathan and accepted the change agenda, sold by Mohammedu Buhari and his APC faithful.

He was hopeful of a better Nigeria. Believed Buhari, an ascetic and believed to have unquestionable character. He saw hope and believed the messiah would usher in changes, make the present situations even more soothing to him and those around him.

Two years and five months after Buhari became president, Monday’s father mechanic business collapsed, forcing him to withdraw his wards from school. He now hustle between being an Okada rider and his mechanic business, which could only fetch money for food and house rent.

For Monday and his siblings, school was a no no. He had to wait for everything to be better. He had to wait for Mohammedu Buhari to clean the augean stable supposedly created by Goodluck Jonathan.

Two years after, the family, just like many others are still waiting for the administration of President Mohammedu Buhari to clean up Nigeria and usher in the desire change.

Monday’s family story sums up the life of a typical Nigerian since the administration of believed Mr. Nonsense started in May 2015.

No one can argue the fact that former president Goodluck Jonathan administration was fantastically corrupt and a no good for Nigeria, but the current government ain’t different and way worst.

Though Nigerian problem can’t be overly blamed on him. Damn we can’t blame Buhari for the stupidity and outright insensitiveness of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi to his people, nor can we blame the illiteracy and embarrassing display by the Meningitis governor.

Same we can’t blame him for the cluelessness and backward thinking of most governors in the country.

Nothing is more insulting than claiming to be what you are not. The much waited messiah has arrived, bringing with him to his followers and distance supporters like me, disappointment that is legendary.

The incorruptible man, is now supervising a government infested with legion of corrupt personality.

An enabler, supporter and guidance to what he swore to fight if Nigerians queued behind him.

An unabashed individual over his defending of corruption personified individuals even with glaring and visible evidence.

The same Mohammedu Buhari in 2008, openly said late dictator, Sani Abacha, never stole from Nigeria, but he wholeheartedly collected millions of dollars returned to Nigeria from one of the country, the late military madman hid some of the stolen wealth.

A person who dines and wines with the devil, certainly won’t be different from him.

Mohammedu Buhari is ethnic bias and tribalistic leader. His silence in the face of Fulani herdsmen murderous atrocities and character whenever besieged communities stage reprisal attacks against the terrorists group, explains the kind of leader he is.

He is an anachronism, stultify, parachronistic leader. No country develop with that kind man as a leader.

His use of reverse Robin Hoodism, has made the common man more poor and their wards deprived of basic needs and necessities.

His unplanned and not thought well policies, gave birth to the second Buhari-economy-recession. First in 1984.

One would expect baba as fondly called to champion unity and harmony amongst the people, but this seem the reverse.

Most of us shouldn’t be blame for supporting and campaigning for him, we wanted a better and prosperous Nigeria, not as being currently championed by him.

Buhari administration is bias, grandstanding and a government for the elites. He, just like every past leader since independence, have always seen the populace as not worthy of recognition and development.

Buhari government is a mistake that Nigerians should learn from and never repeat again.

Education / Ambode And Silent Screams From Laspotech By Dele Owolabi by shehuolayinka(m): 7:23am On Oct 14, 2017
In Nigeria, people are internally displaced for many reasons amongst which are: terrorism, militancy, natural disaster, territory conflicts, civil war, etc. Whatever reason that may be responsible for internal displacement, the situations at all settlement camps remain the same. Neglect, malnutrition, mental and physical abuse, vulnerability, diversion of funds/aids from donors, even intermittent external aggressions. In some cases, the persons prefer the enemies’ camp to the IDP camp if given the opportunity to choose.

This situation in any typical IDP camps is not different from the harrowing experience that has plagued the Lagos State Polytechnic ( LASPOTECH) students. The 40-year-old institution has witnessed up to four strike actions in the last 40 weeks for numerous faulty reasons. Hence disrupting and prolonging the academic years of the innocent students.

The industrial dispute that was said to have started in July 2016 had led to total shut down of the polytechnic on different occasions, starting from Thursday 20th -31st October, 2016; 20th April – 15th May, 2017; 5th -21st June, 2017 and 1st August – 15th. At different periods, the strike actions featured demonstrations, press conferences, media appearances, visits to the Lagos State House of Assembly, visits to the Governor’s office, letters to the Governor and even invasion of the campus by armed military men which attracted public outrage. In all of these, the students languish in pains while the governor seems to enjoy the rhythm of their silent screams. Till today, nothing has been done to investigate the bestial treatment of the students by the soldiers who earn their living through the taxes paid by parents.

No doubt, there is a structure put in place by the Governor to mitigate in situation like this. The structure starts from the Rector, who believes that the staff unions cannot force him into the payment that is yet to be domesticated. In such situation, one would have expected the Governing Council which is to serve as the representative of the Governor to mediate between the warring parties, but got enmeshed in the dirty mud. Next is the Special Adviser on Education to the Governor whose intervention has fallen below average and yielded more confusion. The latest wrong move of the SAE was the court summon from an industrial court to the Unions, which is a clear reflection of his bad handling of the protracted industrial disharmony. As at today, all parties are at limbo and waiting endlessly for the final sound of the gavel. The Permanent Secretary in Lagos Ministry of Education and his counterpart in Ministry of Establishment could not salvage the situation as their interpretations of policy continue to summersault in their faces. The House Committee on Education’s intervention looks promising but has only handed the students another row of strike action.

One year after, if the structures put in place to see to the smooth running of the institution fail, the Governor needs to start questioning the competence of his men and complicity in the seemingly unending drama. The students and their parents did not vote for their Lecturers, Rector, Governing Council members, SAE or Permanent Secretaries. Guardians and parents don’t also pay their taxes to the same set of people, but to Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Akinwumi Ambode. Another electioneering starts in earnest, ‘Ambo lee kan si’ and we can not afford to close our eyes to the harvests of votes that could come from any angle. The students pay and they deserve quality service delivery. Afteral, when the strike actions were called off, the rector and the staff still received their pay packs. Who pays for the wasted years of the innocent students?

Enough of this conspiracy of silence by the powers that be. The students should be treated as future of Nigeria not as IDPs that are mentally wounded and physically brutalized. It may interest his Excellency to know that, the Ikorodu medical centre of the polytechnic at the just concluded 2016/2017 second semester examination in the month of September recorded highest number of casualties in the history of the Polytechnic – no thanks to the examinations that were cramped into eight days to forestall possible fresh industrial strike by the staff unions. Avoidance and denial do not work in a matter of this importance, the Governor just need to face it and rest the matter finally.

From all indications, the Governor seems to trust his boys, but it won’t be out of place if he raises an independent panel of inquiry to look critically and holistically into the issues affecting the polytechnic. What if the issues go beyond arrears? What if there is an issue of integrity deficit on the part of the stakeholders? What if the Governor has been fed with wrong information? What if the only thing that staff, students and pensioners want is an assuring words from the amiable Governor? What if this is an opportunity for the staff unions to learn a better approach to conflict resolution without ‘placards’? What if the managers of the polytechnic need the ongoing crisis to learn modern business intelligence and better handling of men, machine, money? What if the staff and their unions meant good for the polytechnic? What if it is time for the Governor to reposition the polytechnic as the hub and bedrock of technological excellence in Africa? What if?

Taking your employee to court is not a strength sir, it is a weakness in conflict resolution because all internal avenues have not been exhausted. You have only succeeded in creating more disgruntled elements, recalcitrant, and vulnerable victims of the IDP camp. Unless there is a miracle, getting injunction on “no work, no pay” won’t stop further agitation and industrial disharmony. No good father transfers his domestic affairs to his neighbour or village chief and earn the respects of his children after settlements.

Yes, the staff unions goofed by not trusting her Excellency, the Deputy Governor and the House Committee on Education’s efforts to mitigate in the crisis. The unions and all other actors in this avoidable crisis deserve corrective spanks and not destructive spites. As there is no alternative to peaceful co-existence, I also believe it is not too late for the father of all in person of Governor Akinwumi Ambode to restore permanent peace to the polytechnic of excellence. As the polytechnic clocks forty this year, all hands must be on deck to move the Institution to a lofty height and not the current palpable animosity that envelopes the bedrock of technology. The products of a peaceful family are always the harbinger of progress in every society.

Politics / 'you Are An Attack-dog', Fayose Blast EFCC After Commissioner, AG Arrest by shehuolayinka(m): 7:55am On Sep 29, 2017
Governor Ayodele Fayose, has described the arrest of his commissioner for finance, and the accountant general by the Eonomic Financial Crimes Commissions as irresponsible.

Fayose in a statement through his spokesperson, Lere Olayinka, labeled the anti-corruption as the attack-dog of the All Progressives Congress government.

He said, “It is obvious that the hawks around President Muhammadu Buhari are afraid of Governor Ayodele Fayose’s declaration to contest the presidential election in 2019, hence the usual panicky measure of arresting government officials in Ekiti on the day of his declaration, with the view to embark on another round of media trial against the governor and his government".

“It is funny that the EFCC, in the bid to carry out its usual hatchet job against Governor Fayose, failed to take into cognizance the subsisting court order, which forbids any official of the Ekiti state government from being arrested by the EFCC. Up till today, the court order has not been appealed and it subsists," he said.

The statement continued: “What has the EFCC done to those involved in the grass-cutting scam and the $43 million Ikoyi scam?

“It is so funny and laughable that these characters in the APC government can’t even disappoint for once by being unpredictable. “Like we have said before, the game plan of those who want power in Ekiti state by force as well as those who do not want anyone to speak against President Buhari, that they see as a god, is to stifle Ekiti state government and make it impossible for the government to carry out its responsibilities.

“However, the EFCC and its collaborators should know that we have threaded this path before and we, in the government of Ekiti state won’t be intimidated by the irresponsibility of a federal government anti-corruption agency that has come to see itself as instrument of harassing, oppressing, intimidating and coercing perceived opposition figures.

“On this one, let us tell these agents of the devil in the EFCC and those they are working for that as usual, they have taken on a wrong customer.

“This is because the more they run after Governor Fayose, the more they hit their heads on the Rock of Ages and get themselves fatally injured.”

Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the agency, had earlier in a statement announced the arrest of State government officials following their refusal to honour the commission’s invitation.

“They are currently in the custody of the EFCC. They were picked up today following their refusal to honour previous invitations for interrogation in relation to pending investigation on the misuse of bailout funds by the Ayodele Fayose administration,”

The officials were arrested while Fayose was making known his intention to “snatch power” from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Although the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has zoned its presidential ticket to the north in 2019, Fayose has vowed to contest on the platform of the party.

During his declaration in Abuja, Fayose boasted that he would defeat Buhari in a free and fair election.

Crime / How police invaded, arrested Peace Corps Officials In Ikorodu LGA secretariat by shehuolayinka(m): 8:13am On Sep 27, 2017
The Lagos state police on friday, invaded the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat and arrested Peace Corps offiials attending the International Peae Day celebration, organised by the African Demoratic Development Initiative in collaboration with Shelter of Grace Foundation.

The National Commandant, Nigeria Peace Corps, Abuja, Amb. Dickson Akoh, was listed in theproramme of the event to give a public lecture as the guest speaker.

The Bell Timesn correspondent who witnessed the incident report that the Peace corps members who were already at the secretariat, standing together at the extreme end of the secretariat compound waiting for the commencement of the programme were in a gestapo style surrounded by fully armed policemen from the Igbogbo police command and in company of Oyabo, an Ikorodu local vigilante group.

It was observed by our correspondent that effort by the staffs of the seretariat, led by Princess Folasade Olabanji-Oba, the Vice-Chairwoman of the Local Government proved abortived as her plea for them to let go was rebuffed by the policemen.

The police officers quickly rounded them up and ushered them out of the building into waiting vehicles.

Meanwhile, the Lagos command on friday announced the arrest of 34 officials of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, a para-military organisation.

Olarinde Famous-Cole, spokesman of the command, who disclosed this said the officials would be charged to a mobile court on Saturday.

“The command has arrested 34 members of the Peace Corps,” he said.

“The organisation is illegal, therefore the command would charge the suspects to a mobile court tomorrow.”

Famous-Cole did not give details of the offence committed by the officials.

Police invade Ikorodu LGA secretariat, arrest Peace Corp officials

The development is a setback for the organisation which has enjoyed relative peace since July when the senate passed the Nigerian Peace Crops bill.

On March 1, security operatives stormed the headquarters of the organisation in Jabi, Abuja, and arrested Dickson Akoh, commandant of the corps, alongside 48 officials.

Six staff of the organisation were said to have sustained injuries in the joint raid by operatives of the Nigerian army, Nigerian police force and Department of State Services (DSS).

Education / Our Insistence On Quota System Is Causing Serious Problem On Our Education - Don by shehuolayinka(m): 6:48am On Sep 27, 2017
A Professor of Guardian and Counseling, at the University of Lagos, Ngozi Osarenren says the future of education is in a serious problem because of our insistence on quota system.

The Don said this during her Keynote address at a summit organized recently by the Good News Baptist Church, Surulere to proffer solution to the sorry state of education in the country.

She also said the future of education lies in the hands of everyone, and should not be left alone with government,

She said, “The future of education in Nigeria is in our hands. In this country everybody claim to be expert in education and many of them don’t even know about government policy on education. The tertiary level is in a bad state because the basic education which is the feeder is in a bad state. Look, if you don’t get the basic right, the tertiary won’t okay” she said.

“there is dishonesty everywhere, Academic Staff Union of Universities, went on strike for some weeks and called it off on Tuesday and you won’t believe that none of have resumed. Dishonesty amongst ourselves, with government, parents. There is a big problem, not only government but parents also, how many of our parents bother to always check children in school. We should always learn to bond with our children. The future of our education is in our hands.

“A federal university in Nigeria, (UNILAG) pays N14000 as tuition fee for a year and with that we should ask how can we sustain our education system with that. Today in Nigeria, people have killed education for their benefit and parents say there is nothing God cannot do, stop saying that, we should always strive for what we all can do. We can’t talk about world class universities without doing something about our basic education. Let me tell you, we have more pupils in public schools and not as what people believe they we have more in the private.

“It is not like that, we need to look at the basic and work on it. We need to be begin to search our conscience and speak to ourselves about the mess in Nigeria and ask what we can do about it”.

“We have parent who engage in fraudulent practices, paying for children education, results and you should know that, what you are doing is showing and telling your child about how to get things done in the easy and crooked ways”.

“We have parent buying smart phones 200000 for children at age 18 and 16 and we believe that what we are doing is okay. We are talking about honesty. ASUU went on strike in 2009 and the same reason they still went on strike in 2017 and we are talking about development, when all this things is happening”.

“The quality of education remains what it is because we don’t have quality people in our education system. The future of education is in a serious problem because of our insistence in quota system. Quota system has really affected our education system. When we give concession for some to enter school, will they also be giving concessions to write examination?

She further schools in Ghana cant be compared to Nigeria, “We talk about schools in Ghana, do you know that lecturers in Ghanaian universities can’t be compared to the ones we have in Nigerian Universities and you still Nigerian parents struggling to send their children to study in Ghana, same with the private universities when the quality of education there can’t be compared to the ones we have in public universities”.

“How do we expect education to be better, when we don’t have teachers of deep content on subjects like Mathematics, physics and chemistry and we also have teachers who are not respected and I wonder how we expect our education to be better, when we all say it’s not our business and we expect things to be better”.

“The future of education in Nigeria is in all our hands, fathers especially, it is not about dropping money alone, you must partake in the education of your child. We all should know that people only measure you by your children and the cars or properties you have”.

Also Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, an Education consultant said the citizenry always need to demand for quality education from government.

According to her, “There is no way our education can rise beyond the quality of teachers, same way you can’t have a good quality tertiary education without the basic education being good. We are sitting on a keg of gunpowder with the amount of children we have out of school. We are living in an environment where the next generation is not being educated properly” she said.

“School is not about structure, but about the learning quality. We have many children that cannot read. I am of the opinion that if government say they want to educate children, they should their job and not be expecting people input. I am of the school of thought that government should be held accountable and responsible for what it says. If it say, it want to provide free education, let them do it accordingly”.

“If we should privatize education what will happen to the child of the cleaners, farmers and the mechanics, they also need education and we need to demand government provide quality education and we need to start asking for quality standard and not low standard, because public education is the most important as it is where the children of the masses and someone came to talk about the amount of child out of school and we are happy about it.

We are still teaching students on 19 century, while we are in 21 century and we expect things to be better”.

On the roles of mission in academic education in Nigeria, Mrs. Yemisi Subaru, said christian need to come together for the betterness of education

“The reason we are talking about failure is because the church has failed, before we had the church and government working hand in hand for education and everything was okay” she said.

“When the missionaries came, they built schools because they understood and know it important in evangelism in education and apart from that, it worked well during that time and I ask what has happened?

“The quick fix to future of education in Nigeria, the church has a large role to play. Government collected missionary schools from us and we sat down and said nothing about it. We have churches where they build structure that people will come into not more than four hours and to me, I think we need to turn those structures to educational use”.

I think it is time as Christians to go back to school, as it is a means for evangelism. Yes we blame government, but I believe we can put together a Christian curriculum for education, I know schools in Nigeria that don’t use the Nigeria education curriculum and I don’t think we need to wait for government, we need to speak to one another and say enough is enough. We spend money in expensive concert, we need to stop this and look at education at our end”

Business / Neca Calls For Strong Implementation Of Ergp by shehuolayinka(m): 4:48pm On Sep 20, 2017
The Nigerian Employers Consultative Association has urged the federal government to strongly implement the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan so as not to have the country fall back into recession.

The president, Mr Larry Ettah, in a Press briefing at the NECA house said the review of the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics shows marginal growth recorded in Q2 2017 is weak and fragile.

He also said the domestic interest rates are too high for the productive sector.

According to him, “the National Bureau of Statistics, reported that the Nigerian educational economy grew in real terms for the first time in 15 months in the second quarter of 2017. However, while the exit from recession is positive, a detailed review of sectoral performance suggests that weakness persist and the Nigerian economy still remains very fragile” he said.

“The data from NBS, revealed that only three of our largest sectors recorded strong growth in the second quarter namely finance and insurance (10.45%), agriculture (3.01%) and crude petroleum and natural gas (1.64%). Other sectors were either too small or their growth rates too marginal for their rates of growth to matter”.

“our review of the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, Gross Development Production data shows that the marginal growth recorded in Q2 2817 is weak and fragile. Additional measures are required to ensure growth is sustainable and the economy does not relapse into recession”.

“we recommend very strongly and concerted implementation of the ERGP in order to boost confidence of both local and international investors in the Nigerian economy and generate additional investment which appears critical to building a sustainable recovery. The report for the Q2 confirms the dire situation in most economic sectors including manufacturing, trade, telecommunications, hotels and restaurants, construction, real estate, transport and professional services. The report also shows the poor state of our social sector, as revealed by the recession in both education and health. It is clear that policy response are yet to reverse these unfortunate trends m

“We are of the opinion that government needs to adopt specific, targeted and effective policies to attract and promote private capital investment in the Nigerian economy, especially into infrastructure and industry. So far, it does not appear as if the rhetoric in ERGP to make markets work and leverage private capital as the engine of growth, has been matched by appropriate policy responses”.

“we retain the review that domestic interest rates are too high for the productive sector and monetary policy must abandon its tightening posture to both reduce interest rates and support better GDP growth”.

We urge government to adopt stronger and more effective policy responses to ensure a robust and sustainable economic recovery growth, as we expect global crude oil prices to be by-and-large stable into the medium term, but there are global technology and energy trends that could drive prices downward in the long term” he added.

It also called on the government to tackle the Fulani herdsmen and farmer clash in country, as it said it continuity affect food prices.

“with regard to inflation, we are worried by the continued rise in food prices with domestic food inflation reaching 20.3% in July 2017 according to NBS data. We suspect this trend is connected to conflicts between herdsmen and farmers in vast areas of Nigeria’s North Central region, the country food basket, alongside for example conditions making food exports attractive there exacerbating local scarcity” he said.

“We urge government to take firm action to end these conflicts. Moreso the recent floods in the region may affect harvest, further worsening the situation”
