Literature / A Review Of The Book ‘fortuna In Lagos’ by shehuolayinka(m): 5:26am On Apr 25, 2019
Fortuna in Lagos is a story from an film Un-shot script written in 2006. Fortuna in Lagos is a fictional piece of work , and is of interesting uniqueness because of the down- to-earth truthful fear exhibited by a mortal towards an immortal. Normally, authors write about love between mortals and immortals irrationally.

Is it really easy for a man to fall in love with a Goddess?. A personality who you know has some strange powers beyond your knowledge comes to love you and you would also love the personality back? Of course, this only happens in movies.

No author has yet written about fear to love an immortal even with the feelings growing from the mortal. Funny though, movies and books have established it in the minds of persons that it is easy to just go ahead and love, date or marry an immortal but Fortuna in Lagos tells how Chris kills his affections, feelings and love for Fortuna because of his fear of her powers. The first edition of this 167 page e-book boasts of 54,761 words under ISBN 9781387603534 Is sold for 5.50 USD online for now.

What is Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai about? Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai is a story about the truthful fear of confessing love to a higher power in a world of lower and same power . The goddess Fortuna escapes from trouble on planet Venus and meet with Chris in the city of Lagos who his afraid to confess his love for her.

The publications of this book was first done online at amazon on February 19 2018 and lulu.com on march 1 2018. It is about the goddess Fortuna, a resident of planet Venus. She possesses the power to give a chance for an attempt at something worthwhile which result in the acquisition of Fortunes.

Fortuna was loved by Venus de milo, the queen because of her uniqueness, respect and fear for the ruler of planet Venus the mention of Fortuna’s name as a possible choice for the throne angered the heiress Venus, who attacks Fortuna from which she escapes and find her self on earth in Lagos. Really , Fortuna wasn’t interested in the throne, she respected princess Venus and enjoys her lonely life. Mortal men have stopped meeting her because while many hate working hard to get a fortune,Other want it in a flash, impatient with the open chance she gives for the manifestation of the fortunes there of.

RAISED ISSUES :The story show cases Lagos and it attracting tourism beauties . A few of its aquatics splendor, cultural heritage especially the eyo masquerades. The new transport facilities that has made the city a rising development among its kind. The emergence of new sites on the island part of the city, where water has been pushed back for the creation of estate and mansions with sea views and overlooking oceans.

The ghetto and street of Lagos that have in printed determination on the minds of many raw talent and ideas and propelled there exit from the popular face to face rooms to bungalow and duplex in rising estates of the city.

It also clamors for investing in the show biz and entertainment industries of this most populated city in its continent.

Appreciating and giving a comprehend to the e-book Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai takes a lot of empathy because one needs to look seriously at the scenario of a love between man and god, a lower power and a higher power, an ordinary and a powerful personality.

EFECT OF THE BOOK: In the fiction movie twilight, Bella falls in love with the vampire Edward, with full knowledge of his abilities and power. She knew he could kill her with his finger, she also knew he was an immortal and would never grow old but like all movies she falls in love and even marries him.

In Fortuna in Lagos by Austin Anyai the love Chris has for the goddess Fortuna couldn’t be demonstrated. It was better kept has admiration from afar.

Politics / Must Read: List Of Illegal Recruitments Under The Buhari’s Administration by shehuolayinka(m): 4:28am On Apr 25, 2019
The Scoop Nigeria on the 23rd of April 2019 made a startling revelation of how the daughter of the controversial Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari got secretly employed to Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority as an assistant Vice President, even though she didn’t meet the requirement.

The NSIA is a legally constituted agency that manages Nigeria’s excess crude oil revenues.

According to The Scoopng reports, Ms. Abba-Kyari’s appointment violates set procedure at the NSIA which is the legally constituted agency as the role was not publicly advertised, contrary to the expectations for such a position.

The online medium also reported that Abba-Kyari had just about 5 years working experience at the National Integrated Power Project where she worked up until February 2019 when she got the NSIA role AVP level 3, which is the highest level in the organisation instead of the 10 years working experience needed for the position.

Politics / With Buhari, Osinbajo, Lawan, Gbaja, Igbo Presidency In 2023 Is Now A Moral Burd by shehuolayinka(m): 11:24pm On Apr 21, 2019
We have always pledged to Nigeria’s unity. But we have not gone beyond this ritual and work at it. How can we assert, “Nigeria’s unity is not negotiable”; yet we constantly chip away at the umbilical cord that holds us together?

It is obvious that the southeast has been politically quarantined. I think this is deliberate. Traditionally, the leadership of the three arms of government is dispensed on a “Wa-zo-bia” basis; that is, on the tripod – north, east and west – the country reclines.

Political balance is a sine qua non for national equilibrium. We cannot pontificate on unity and be insensitive to issues of political equity. The fons et origo of strife in society is inequity and imbalance. We talk of gender inequality today, which is unjust and unfair, political inequity is as much ghastly.

It is convenient to rationalise the political imbalance of this time because it indulges the sentiments of those it serves and those who feel it serves them. As it is, with Buhari and Osinbajo in the executive, and with the APC picking Ahmed Lawan for senate president and Femi Gbajabiamila for speaker, and with Justice Tanko as the acting head of the judiciary, the government as we know it is in the paw of two sections of the country. Where is the place of the southeast, south-south and north-central in all of these?

How do we build an inclusive country with this kind of imbalance? How do we foster oneness with this depressing level insensitivity to matters of national unity? This is an issue too critical to ignore.

Some persons have argued that the regional background of the heads of the government is unimportant because, most times, the living conditions of people who have sons and daughters in political offices are not improved. I agree. But this argument fails completely when tested in the lab of equity. An organisation that is completely filled with males where females can function effectively as well will naturally be termed gender-insensitive and discriminatory.

Health / How To Calculate, Treat Obesity, By Expert by shehuolayinka(m): 6:55am On Apr 21, 2019
A UK-based Nigerian Medical Doctor, Harvey Olufunmilayo has condemned those trending the FUPA acceptance on social media, stating emphatically that Obesity is a worldwide problem and a potentially life-threatening situation.

FUPA is an acronym for Fat Upper Pelvic (or Pubic) Area, and it is slang for fat in the lower abdomen area, the result of either the medical condition panniculus, or just a pronounced lower belly.

Dr Olufunmilayo said this in a series of tweets criticising the FUPA trend on social media.

The medical expert in one of the tweets said an individual could know he or she is obese based on what he said was calculating the “Based on body mass index (BMI)”.

Politics / An Unpopular Opinion On The Atiku Saga by shehuolayinka(m): 5:58am On Apr 21, 2019
Isn’t this the best time ever to be a Nigerian? Literally, I could clap my hands like a market woman and possibly cross my legs in wonder and amazement at the several revelations that have continued to transverse the Nigerian media space from 2018.

Remember when Buhari was labelled Jubril from Sudan? Many people termed it a wild conspiracy by the opposition and laughed at the incredulity and that went past. So also the time Atiku Abubakar was termed Saraki’s aide, and now the most ridiculous claim of the century- that Atiku is not fit to contest election.

When the story of the ex-Vice President made the news, I thought it was one of those loose talks that APC and PDP made to themselves in the media before the elections held. It was quite alarming that this wild allegation was made in court and put forward as an argument by an officer of law with so much gusto. This was the same way the Jubril claim rocked our boats when we heard it. That is why I am doing this analysis. Call it a fact-check, analysis or in-depth feature. Let’s compare personal histories and draw inferences.

Personal History

Let’s start with the accused. Atiku Abubakar. Atiku’s history has been traced way back to Jada in Adamawa highlands, which was formerly Cameroonian territory till a plebiscite of 1961. Jada used to be in Ganye Local Government Area of Adamawa State. This area was never part of Nigeria legally until the February 1961 plebiscite in which the people of the then Northern Cameroon voted to join Nigeria. This interesting point of history has got to be a flip in the script for many political analysts like myself, fixated with the situation. Going by the constitution which makes provision for citizenship by birth in Section 25, many others have termed Atiku a Nigerian by Referendum and not birth.

Section 25 of the Constitution provides thus: The following persons are citizens of Nigeria by birth, namely: (a) every person born in Nigeria before the date of independence, either of whose parents or any of whose grandparents belongs or belonged to a community indigenous to Nigeria; provided that a person shall not become a citizen of Nigeria by virtue of this section if neither of his parents nor any of his grandparents was born in Nigeria.(b) every person born in Nigeria after the date of independence either of whose parents or any of whose grandparents is a citizen of Nigeria; and (c) every person born outside Nigeria either of whose parents is a citizen of Nigeria. (2) In this section, “the date of independence” means the 1st day of October 1960.

In all of these, I have made a startling discovery- call it a hypothesis, a theory or maybe hate speech, as politicians now call journalistic theories alien to their line of thought. Atiku Abubakar is actually Nigerian. In the 19th century and before the Obafemi and Azikiwe’s revolution for self-governance and determination, Nigeria wasn’t yet one as an entity. What we had then was a conglomerate of different territories. Nigeria was known as Colonial Nigeria in the 1900s. The 1914 amalgamation was done to bring the Northern Nigerian Protectorate and the South Nigerian Protectorate together because like the CIA put it- Nigeria was more of an ethnic entity than a Nation, Republic or Country.

“Africa’s most populous country (population estimated at 48 million) is in the throes of a highly complex internal crisis rooted in its artificial origin as a British dependency containing over 250 diverse and often antagonistic tribal groups. The present crisis started” with Nigerian independence in 1960, but the federated parliament hid “serious internal strains. It has been in an acute stage since last January when a military coup d’état destroyed the constitutional regime bequeathed by the British and upset the underlying tribal and regional power relationships. At stake now are the most fundamental questions which can be raised about a country, beginning with whether it will survive as a single viable entity.

The situation is uncertain, with Nigeria, is sliding downhill faster and faster, with less and less chance unity and stability. Unless present army leaders and contending tribal elements soon reach agreement on a new basis for the association and take some effective measures to halt a seriously deteriorating security situation, there will be increasing internal turmoil, possibly including civil war.

(October 1966, CIA Intelligence Memorandum)
I am guessing the Europeans who rewrote our history would be amazed at this new claim directed at Atiku because we have abolished history in our secondary schools and many of us don’t know this tit-bit. Nigeria used to be a colony of the Northern Protectorate which was quite vast.

Politics / I Am More Qualified Than Atiku - Buhari Tells Tribunal by shehuolayinka(m): 8:06pm On Apr 17, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari has responded to allegations contained in the petition by Atiku Abubakar and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before the presidential election tribunal.

Buhari, in a response filed on April 16 by a team of lawyers led by Wole Olanipekun (SAN), faulted the claim by Atiku and the PDP that he lacked the requisite academic qualification to stand for election to the office of the President.

The President said he was far more qualified than Atiku and challenged Atiku to produce his academic credentials before the tribunal.

Buhari faulted the entire petition filed by the PDP and Atiku, noting that they are more about pre-election issues, which the Court of Appeal, sitting as a tribunal lacked jurisdiction.

He also argued that the petitioners told lies against themselves in the petition and made conflicting claims which the tribunal cannot grant.

Business / IMF Cautions Nigeria Against Borrowing From China by shehuolayinka(m): 9:15pm On Apr 10, 2019
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned Nigeria and other emerging market countries taking excessive loans from China to consider the terms of such facilities, especially, their compliance with the Paris Club arrangements.

Speaking on Wednesday at the ongoing IMF/World Bank Spring Meetings in United States of America, Director, IMF Monetary and Capital Markets Department, Tobias Andrian, said that there was nothing bad in borrowing from China, except that the terms of such loans are always questionable.

He said: “Loans from China are good, but the countries should consider the terms of the loans. And we urge countries that when they borrow from abroad, the terms are favorable for the borrower, and should be conforming to the Paris Club arrangements”.

Continuing, Andrian, who spoke on the Global Financial Stability Report (GFSR) said: “Let me reiterate that in many frontier markets, we see that the share of debt that is not conforming to the Paris Club standards is on the rise. And that means that if there is any debt restructuring down the road one day, that can be very unfavorable to those countries. So, the borrowing terms, the covenants, are extremely important. And we do see a deterioration in that aspect.”

Education / 8 Easy Ways To Raise A Genius In Nigeria by shehuolayinka(m): 7:50pm On Apr 10, 2019
According to child development experts and neuroscientists, the brain develops quickest during childhood. It is critical in the intellectual development of your son/daughter that you train them in the way you wish for them to go.
Now, you may not be a genius but, if you are willing to be the parent of a genius then here are ways in which you can achieve that:

1. Let your child see you doing smart things. Kids learn by modelling adult’s behaviour. If he sees you engaged in reading books, writing, making music, or doing creative things, he will imitate you, and in the process make himself smart.

2. Allow your child to get bored. According to Julia Robinson, Education and Training Director of the Independent Association of Prep Schools, it is okay for your child to get bored.

Learning to be bored is part of preparing for adulthood. Your child should learn to enjoy “quiet reflection” instead of forcing him to fill his days with activities.

3. Talk to your child using words and descriptions beyond their appropriate age level. They may not understand at first but the more you use the same word in a similar situation, you child will learn the context of its use.

Culture / SACRILEGE! Alleged Sale Of Osun Goddess Sparks Crisis In Osogbo by shehuolayinka(m): 9:45am On Apr 06, 2019
The ancient city of Osogbo is in the spotlight over the alleged disappearance of Osun deity. SINA FADARE, who visited the city, reports that there is more to the issue than meets the eye.

THE controversy generated by the alleged sale of Osun goddess is compounded by the recent removal of the Baba Osun and the Iya Osun, the male and female custodians of the deity, allegedly by the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun.

Chief Adigun Olayiwola Olosun, the man who blew the whistle over the sacrilegious act, had alleged that the missing deity was sold to some people. His allegation followed a call he claimed to have received from a man in Lomé, Togo, confessing that they bought the goddess from a tall woman called Iya Osun in alleged active connivance with Oba Olanipekun, in the sum of N15 million.

The call, Adigun said, was necessitated by the difficulty those who took the deity away were having in putting it in the aircraft that would fly it to Europe where it was billed for sale. In the bid to get out of the quagmire, their accomplices in Osogbo had to avail the buyers with Adigun’s phone number so they could contact him for possible solution, particularly as the goddess was said to have become angry, appearing to them in dreams and demanding that she be returned to the Osun temple.

In a bid to retrieve the deity, Adigun agreed to meet with the caller from Togo in Ibadan, where it was revealed that the deal was allegedly masterminded by the ousted Arugba (the deity’s calabash bearer). Thereafter, he took possession of the deity after their N15 million was refunded.

Politics / APC Shops For New National Secretary by shehuolayinka(m): 7:57pm On Apr 04, 2019
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is searching for a new National Secretary following election of the immediate occupant, Mai Mala Buni as Yobe Governor-elect.

The party is however looking towards the north east where Buni hails from for his successor.

The Nation gathered Waziri Bulama is highly favoured to emerge as new National Secretary, having contested the position during the last electoral convention of the party, which produced the current leadership.

Bulama, who served as the Deputy Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the last elections, stepped down to pave the way for Buni to emerge unopposed after an agreement by leaders of the party from the north east.

A highly placed official of the party told The Nation that the north east is expected to fill the vacancy, adding the leaders are expected to meet and come up with their choice for the position.

“The position is zoned to the north east and we expect them to meet very soon and come up with their choice.

“It is that choice they will submit to the NWC as the National Secretary”.

The Nation also gathered that the battle for the position is raging between Borno and Yobe state with APC leaders from Borno insisting it is their turn to produce the National Secretary.

The party source said the National Working Committee of the party would have decided on the issue but for the absence of the National Chairman.

“The absence of the National Chairman is what is delaying the announcement since the NWC would have taken decision on the issue of National Secretary this week.

“The Borno State governor, Alhaji Kassim Shettima had written Oshiomhole recommending Bulama, just as the stakeholders from the North East had endorsed him.

“Former members of the defunct CPC are also in support of the candidature of Bulama. For them it would give them sense of belonging in the party leadership.

Politics / PDP Will Win The Speakership Seat - Timothy Golu by shehuolayinka(m): 9:36pm On Mar 31, 2019
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will install Speaker of the incoming 9th Assembly, Timothy Golu (PDP plateau) has declared.

He boasted that the party has all it takes to win the speakership slot having done it so well in the past.

He dismissed the majority strength of the All Progressives Party (APC), saying it won’t count during the election.

Golu, who spoke with reporters in the National Assembly Complex on Sunday, said: “When Jonathan wanted Mulikat, the members voted for Tambuwal; when Buhari wanted Femi Gbajabiamila, the same thing.

“So, this time around, they are going to do the same thing to shoot the candidate of the presidency out.

“They would have kept quiet. Coming out to do this thing was even the worst of strategy for the APC.

“They have exposed themselves. In fact, to me now the way I see it, the candidacy of Ahmed Lawal and Femi Gbajabiamila are dead on arrival.”

He faulted APC chieftains for endorsing candidates for NASS leadership, saying imposition will not work where lawmakers are concerned.

“None of them is a member of parliament and when the election will take place none of them will be there.

“They are only talking to impress so that the president will say this man is loyal. They are just playing to the gallery.

“As far as I am concerned, Oshiomhole is playing to the gallery. He doesn’t know what happens in here. They don’t feel forms to do this election.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is not involved where he can manipulate. It is the members themselves; nobody filled form. So, somebody can wake up that day and contest.”

He added: “So, it is not possible because apart from the presiding officers, that are the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker and his deputy, which can go to any political party, there are offices reserved constitutionally for all parties; majority party and the minority party.

Politics / Breaking: Onnoghen Likely To Face Fresh Criminal Charges by shehuolayinka(m): 8:21pm On Mar 24, 2019
The suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen, may face two fresh trials on alleged huge deposits on his accounts.

There were indications that Onnoghen might be tried for alleged several breaches of the criminal and anti-corruption laws, including money laundering, bribery and tax evasion.

The latest cases also border on alleged strange deposits in his accounts and cash gifts from some Senior Advocates of Nigeria( SANs).

It was learnt that the Federal Government has delayed the arraignment of the CJN in deference to the constitutional provisions on the National Judicial Council (NJC).

The constitution stipulates that such allegations against a judicial officer should first be presented to the NJC.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has submitted a petition and a comprehensive report on Onnoghen’s accounts to the NJC.

A top government official, who spoke in confidence with select newsmen, said there are three dimensions to the allegations against Onnoghen.

He said apart from the trial of Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), there might be two other cases against him.

The source said the suspended CJN might be arraigned before a High Court of Justice very soon.

The source said: “When President Muhammadu Buhari decided to suspend Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen on the 25th of January, 2019, it was in response to serious allegations of irregularities, illegalities and criminal conduct contained in petitions submitted against the top judicial officer, and indeed some findings of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), which not only substantiated those petitions but threw up even more damning facts.
