When he was preparing for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), Ekene Franklin Ezeunala said his target was to make a score of 370 out of a possible 400.

The SS3 pupil of Meiran Community Secondary School, Meiran, Lagos, made 347 – and he is still happy with himself.

“I tried to make a good score while preparing for the examination.

“The score I was targeting was 370. I still feel happy that I still achieved a good result,” said the public school pupil.

Ekene, who will turn 15 in 13 days (May 27), said he was shocked to be announced the candidate with the highest score in the examination.

“When I first heard I was the highest, I was a bit shocked. But I became glad and happy.”

The teenager said regular participation in competitions on behalf of Lagos State helped his preparations.

“The competitions impacted positively on my preparation. Some of the subjects I did I had done them in preparing for the competitions and met the same thing in the exams,” he said.

Politics / Nigerian Politicians Are Not Different From Prostitutes – Sheik Gumi by shehuolayinka(m): 5:41am On May 11, 2019
Kaduna-based Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi has sad there is no difference between politicians and prostitutes.

According to Leadership, Gumi made the statement while responding to questions from an audience after delivering a paper at a programme organised by the Good Shepherd Major Seminary in Kaduna.

A member of the audience dominated by seminarians and Catholic priests had reportedly asked if Islamic clerics have influence over Muslims who are politicians.

While responding, Gumi reportedly said politicians often behave like prostitutes, hence they jump from one political party to another.

“Most politicians lack ideology and that is why they jump from one political party to another and there is no difference between them and the prostitutes,” he reportedly said.

While presenting his paper titled “preaching and conscience formation of society in Islam”, Gumi asked Nigerians to be firm in their moral and religious beliefs at a time when insecurity on the rise.

“Islam coming almost 600 years after Christianity. As another system of values, logically has a stand about the other established religions before it,” he was quoted to have said.

Crime / ‘my Sad Encounter With A Policeman’ by shehuolayinka(m): 5:33am On May 11, 2019
Award winning and investigative reporter, Kunle Faleye has shared a sad and troubling encounter he had in Lagos with an officer of the Nigerian Police force.

The BBC reporter made this known in a series of tweets on his official twitter handle.

See his tweets below…

I had an encounter with a policeman today and it further reinforces my belief that we are in deep shit in this country. It wasn’t the usually hostile police encounter. It was actually one friendly one. Here’s what happened.

I sat down at my mechanic’s listening to music with headphones on and a policeman tapped me. I immediately sized him up. A lot of things jumped at me as very strange the moment he tapped me.

First of all, this man was one of the most polite policemen I have encountered this year. Believe me, there are many good policemen around. But it still feels strange when one approaches you with politeness.

I have come across policemen who would refuse to be polite even when they are asking your for “something for pure water”.

Politics / Remi Tinubu And Lagos Politics, By Deji Adeyanju by shehuolayinka(m): 5:27am On May 10, 2019
Asiwaju’s wife has learnt perfectly well from her husband. She plays politics of intimidation in Lagos but women are her biggest victims. During the last election, she intimidated every woman that came to Asiwaju for help and drove all of them away.

All women were asked to step down few hours to the primary elections and promised heaven and earth. The women who should be looking up to her as mentor can’t even approach her as she see every women as someone who wants to sleep with Asiwaju.

She’s frustrating women involvement in politics in the state especially the young women. She disgraced one Islamic musician, Obedat Alubarikaobi on the eve of gubernatorial election because she came to see Asiwaju & drove her out of the house. How many dick does Asiwaju have?

She doesn’t want women to succeed in politics and she’s a woman. Now that politicking is over. It’s time for people to lobby for political appointment. She has removed almost all the women’s names on the list for appointment and compensation.

The only woman in the cabinet is one Hon. Lola Akande, the Commissioner for women affairs who is reportedly her cousin. Every woman who tries to get close to Asiwaju for political help is seen as an enemy and treated as such.

Business / Between Tayo Oyedeji And Akin Alabi: Is Sports Betting An Investment? by shehuolayinka(m): 5:18am On May 10, 2019
The controversy about if sports betting is a form of investment took to center stage again on social media and generating discourse amongst Nigerians.

Dr. Tayo Oyedeji, a United Kingdom based Nigerian financial expert tweeted about the discussion he had with some participants at his “Village free seminar”, where said a significant percentage of men at the seminar in Nairobi mentioned sports betting as one of their investments vehicles.

Dr Oyedeji in a series of tweets said, the owners of SportsPesa, Betway, Ladbrokes, Nairabet, Bet9ja, BetKing etc make millions by selling poor people a pipe dream. They harvest millions from sport fans who think they can predict the future. Nobody can. Did you think Spurs would win at Ajax? Invest, don’t bet.”

“It takes a special level of financial naivety to think that sports betting is a form of investment. It’s Not. You will eventually lose your capital and continue “investing” in a bid to break even. They make the million; you lose your shirt. Don’t do it.”

“This sports betting nonsense is all over England; it’s on every billboard in Kenya; it’s big in South Africa; it’s everywhere in Nigeria too. It targets the poor and keeps them poor while a bunch of billionaires harvest capital from the ghetto. Please don’t fall for it.”

Politics / ‘Nigeria 2019 Budget Is A Scam’ by shehuolayinka(m): 5:18am On May 08, 2019
Social Commentator, Laolu Samuel-Biyi has described the just National Assembly passed 2010 Appropriation Bill as a scam.

He made this known in a series of tweets on his verified and official twitter account.

He said, “So, I promised to review the Nigerian budget and point out 100 agencies that are useless and need to be scrapped. I’ve spent over 4 hours going line by line and I can’t. The whole budget is a scam and I’ll shred my passport in the end if I continue.
“If you want to know what an MDA is doing or what a government’s priority is, just look at the budget. It is clear that our government don’t know what they’re doing across-board.”

“Look at this Nigerian Stored Products Research Institute or this Federal College of Agricultural Produce Technology with a combined budget of N9bn. I guarantee you that all they do there is buy bread & beans all day.”

Tips for safe and cordial relationship at check points When approaching a security checkpoint or when flagged-down by the Police or other security agencies;

Endeavor to slow down your vehicle. It shows that you are not reckless. It also douses suspicion that you are a criminal and may want to speed-off.

Turn down the volume of your car stereo. Courtesy demands this. Besides, you are able to hear each other better. This simple act will also help you to win the confidence of the security operative.

Health / OOUTH: The Teaching Hospital Without Equipment by shehuolayinka(m): 5:33am On May 07, 2019
Twitter has in the last couple of hours being agog with stories about the sorry state of Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH).

It has been about how one of the best public owned hospital in country became a death trap to Nigerians.

Trending under the #SaveOOUTH, the hospital once regarded as the best State-owned in the country, has been reduced to a glorified morgue.

The hospital, which was transformed from general to a teaching one after the establishment of Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), is being confronted with inadequate staffing, dearth of facilities, dilapidated structures as well as unpaid salary.

Strategically located in the heart of Sagamu town in such a way that it is the natural point of attraction to accident victims on the Lagos-Ibadan and Sagamu-Benin expressways, is confronted with a myriad of challenges.

The hospital lacks common X-ray facilities.

Some tweeted that patients in need of X-ray, him/her has would have to go to a nearby private hospital whether in the town or an adjoining town before he/she can have it done.

Many patients have been reported to have lost their lives waiting for treatment.

Also, the teaching hospital operates in the dark when Electricity company fails to supply the hospital with power, with health workers attending to patients in the dark with the use of torch lights, mobile phones, and flashlight.

Some facilities within the 25-year old hospital are in a sorry state while some areas are overgrown with weed. The toilets and some buildings are in dilapidated conditions.

Experience shared on social media about the hospital tell of a sad tale that is unbecoming of government institutions across the country.

Crime / Northern Nigeria Insecurity, By Zain Ameen by shehuolayinka(m): 4:48am On May 07, 2019
We initially bought into the idea of GEJ wanting to depopulate the North/adopt Paul Biya’s style after he took over power from Ahidjo Ahmad because of his outburst over 1st October bombings in which he exonerated MEND in 2010.

We used our all in the North to vote him out, truly he didn’t take the insurgency seriously until towards election period It’s 4yrs gone but the North east isn’t still secured worse is the entire North west is sinking in a very short period of time with no attention from Muhammadu Buhari.

We are used to matching orders that translates into nothing from the President so who can we now point as the one behind Real depopulation of the north and complete destruction of its infrastructures? All the three geopolitical zone of the north are collapsing.

My own theory is telling me our decades of poverty glorification which made acclaimed leaders of the North docile is the reason we are facing this scary situation. While we glorified the poverty of Danliti who earns less than $100 a month with 4 wives & 15kids he’s boiling up,

Also his children whom he can’t give decent food let alone education too re boiling up, the uncontrollable births with no means/intention of caring for the children who end up as Almajirai re boiling up so all these years we where seated on a time bomb that is currently exploding.

Crime / Rwanda Genocide: How My Mum Ordered The Killing Of Her Husband, Children by shehuolayinka(m): 4:38am On May 07, 2019
A twitter user, Ruzindana RUGASA has shared touching a story about how a seven year old boy witnessed, Albert Nsengimana witnessed the slaughtering and his father on the order of his mother.

The story was shared in a series of tweets by Rugasa on his official twitter handle on the 3rd of May, 2019.

Read the tweets below…

Genocide Survivor Albert Nsengimana was only 7 years old when he witnessed his eight brothers slaughtered before his eyes on the orders of his mother, also suffering similar unimaginable torture when his mother took him to be killed, but miraculously managed to escape.

Twenty-five years living with this indescribable wound Nsengimana writes a book called “Ma mere m’a tué” or “my mother killed me”. Released on Thursday 4th April 2019, the book tells his story of survival and forgiveness.

In this book “Ma mere m’a tué”, the seventh child in the family of nine boys, born to a Tutsi father and a Hutu mother, says that during the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi, he knew nothing about ethnicity.

He narrates how he lost all his eight siblings and father at the hands of his own militia mother Virginia Nyiramanenge. Until today, he still can’t believe how his own mother was actively involved in the killing of his father and brothers.

During the 1994 Against the Tutsi Genocide, Nsengimana’s mother abandoned her children and family to join hands with Interahamwe to execute the killings in the former Kabarondo Commune, now @KayonzaDistrict @RwandaEast.

When the Interahamwe attacked their home village, Nsengimana’s elder brothers fled and sought refuge at their maternal grandmother’s home while he stayed with his two youngest brothers looking after their cattle not knowing what was coming.

Crime / Dear IGP Adamu, Begging Bandits Is Not A Security Strategy by shehuolayinka(m): 4:28am On May 07, 2019
Dear Police Inspector-General Mohammed Adamu, You cannot tackle the atrophic security threat assailing the country by pandering to the whims of the antagonists. Of course, being a sterling security professional, you know this; hence my befuddlement by your statement at the meeting in Kebbi state yesterday.

At the indaba with the leaders of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), you were quoted to have said these words by national newspapers: “We will take measures to dialogue with the bandits to become better citizens, but if that fails we will deal with them.”

Dear IGP, when did it become a national policy or security strategy to “dialogue” with terrorists and bandits who have pulverised many innocent lives? Does it mean there is no punishment for the crime committed? Is your gesture not a sign of capitulation by the police? How do you even have that conversation with bandits to become “better citizens”? Does it mean the lives wasted deserve no justice?

With due respect Sir, your utterance and approach is what gives oomph to violent crimes in the country. You have just ossified the perception that violence is the language that the authorities decipher easily.

That is, when you protest against injustice with your voice, the police harass you; you could even be killed or imprisoned. But when you attack the state and dispatch violence against citizens with guns, the authorities call you for a meeting to beg you. They could even offer you some concessions to become a “better citizen”.

Sir, as you already know, “dialoguing” with bandits or terrorists will not stop the killings in the north. It is the reason I suspect there is an implicit meaning beneath the surface of your statement. Really, I do not need to be caught in the undertow of the subliminal vibe of your statement, it is obvious you were pandering or were ordered to pander for some “reasons”.

Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna state governor, once admitted that he made reparations to some herdsmen to stop the killings in the state. I believe the governor might have had good intentions doing this. But his “mollycoddling” did not yield any fruit. The killings in the state are unabated.

Health / Expert To Men: No Amount Of Exercise Will Increase Your Penis by shehuolayinka(m): 9:48am On May 05, 2019
A UK-based Nigerian Medical Doctor, Harvey Olufunmilayo says no amount of exercise can increase the size of a man’s penis.

Dr Olufunmilayo said this in a series of tweets on his verified and official twitter account, stating that the penis stops growing at age 21.

He also said most men will have a penis size about 9cm when it is not erect. That’s barely 4 inches. And when erect, most men will have a penis size about about 13cm to 18cm.

“NO exercise can grow the penis. NO medicine can grow the penis. Your penis stopped growing at 21years. NO exercise can grow the penis. NO medicine can grow the penis. Your penis stopped growing at 21years. Whatever you have now is what you will have. Use it well.”

All over the world, people have associated a lot of unrealistic things to penis size. Both men and women. Some people have come to see it as the longer/bigger it is, the more fertile, the more masculine, the more stronger, the more coursgeous a man is. NONE OF THIS IS TRUE.

The size of a man’s penis has NOTHING to do with the strength of a man. Or the fertility of a man. Or the masculinity of a man. Or the value of a man. These are all common myths in a world that is largely ignorant and completely uninformed about the penis- and what it can do.

This obsession with Penis Size is the reason for some unscrupulous drug/herb companies from the roadside sellers to online markets who exploit the ignorance of men who assume that a bigger penis is the missing piece to complete their lives. But sadly, these men are sold lies.

The former NHRC boss stated this in a series of tweets on his verified and official twitter account, stating that the practice of entitled rape of alleged sex workers by men of the Nigerian Police force is not new.

He said, In the 1980s, “@policeNG came up with a “bright” solution to violent crime: detainees in its custody suddenly died with bullets in their backs & were said to be robbers who died in gunfight with police while escaping. There’s habit in turning suspects into offensive criminals”.

“In this case of #AbujaPoliceRaidOnWomen it is unfortunate that ppl continue to say police arrested “prostitutes”. No1 goes around wearing #IAmAProstitute tattoo on the forehead. There’s no crime of being a prostitute in the law books.”

” Ppl are acting like what has bn reported here is new. It is not. @PoliceNG in Abuja have bn abusing women, hurling them off the streets & branding them as an excuse for mass abuse for a long time. I got involved in looking into this when I was with @NhrcTweets”.

Music/Radio / Why Iroking Was Shutdown, By Irokotv Boss by shehuolayinka(m): 8:36am On May 05, 2019
The founder of IROKOTV, Jason Njoku, has explained the reason behind iROKING, an online digital music platform was shutdown.

iROKING is an online media distribution company focused on the Nigerian Entertainment Industry, which started operations in 2010.

Jason also blamed lack of respect to laws and contracts by artist as the greatest obstacles to growth of the music industry in Nigeria.

Writing on his official Medium page, “losing $2M in Nigeria’s music industry”losing $2M in Nigeria’s music industry”, Jason Njoku said Iroking died as a corporate entity over a year ago, 27/03/2018.

He said, “We started a little music distribution company called Iroking. The ambition was to replicate what Spotify had started to do in Europe, but more importantly what the Saavn folks were attempting to build in India.”

“We met Saavn at a Tiger Global internet conference in 2011 and immediately understood (at least we thought) that perhaps IROKO had a unique skill set to try this opportunity across Africa. And for Nigerian music.”

“Alas whereas ROK has thrived into arguably one of the most valuable independent media companies in Africa, Iroking died a slow cancerous terminal death. But back then I was full of optimism.”

“People always ask me why Nollywood can’t be big like Nigerian music. Why it can’t be global. They are making sooo much money whilst Nollywood is struggling. I always smile. There isn’t a way anyone makes money in Nigerian entertainment that I am unaware of.”

The #EndSARS campaign said this in a series of tweets on his official twitter handle, stating emphatically that police officers have no right in demanding to check the phones of any citizen.

He said, “The moment you handover your phone to corrupt @PoliceNG officers, you’ve consented to being robbed at gun point. Whatever they get off you is not just a loss to you but a dip in the decadence of the culture of impunity. Your consent endangers the lives of others.”

“The fact that they succeed with you will make them confident to push others to consent even at the risk of extrajudicial killings. The born slaves claiming they have nothing to hide by nihilistically justifying a gross human right abuse are part of the problem. This is unlawful.”

Crime / 'Nigerians will weep if they knew the amount being allotted to the police' by shehuolayinka(m): 7:13am On May 02, 2019
Lead campaigner of the EndSARS movement, Segun Awosanya has said Nigerians will weep if they knew what is being allotted to the the Nigerian Police Force for operations.

The activist made this known in a series of tweets on his official twitter handle on the 30th of April, 2019.

Read his tweets below…

The complexity of our society will frustrate the current structure & approach of policing in Nigeria. We now have a society that is inundated with indolent youth with no purpose or jobs while nursing an ambition to break the bank (literally & figuratively).

These youth mostly have no apprehension of the future & hold to heart their fondness of music/nightlife despite the harsh economy. Add this to the stereotypical policing enmeshed in the parochial constabulary of 1943. This should give us a fair idea about the chaos of now.

While the current trend doesn’t augur well for our society, the victims of the age-long systemic dereliction are about to self immolate with an unwritten mutually assured destruction memorandum. The Police have now found purpose in the pursuit of a cause outside their calling.

Instead of subsiding, the controversy generated by the citizenship of the Presidential Candidate of the People Democratic Party, keeps on raging as a fresh document filed by the APC at the election tribunal by a man, who claims to be a close friend of Garba Abubakar, Atiku’s late father, alleged that neither of his parents was a Nigerian.

Atiku in a response to the APC, said he was a Nigerian by birth because his parents were Nigerians.

“So why is there sperm in urine? It may be because of something called retrograde ejaculation- which means you are ejaculating backwards into the bladder instead of straight outside the body. What do I mean by ejaculating backward into the bladder?”

“How does this happen? Ideally, during orgasm, sperm from the testicles in the scrotum get mixed with other fluids from the prostate and other glands and then get expelled through the urethra (the pipe at the under part of the erect penis). This is the normal ejaculation.”

Business / The Internet And Us: Actionable Causes by shehuolayinka(m): 9:04am On Apr 27, 2019
Human developments have continued to astound us overtime but none so far has beat the internet except for the newest leap in artificial intelligence and robotics. However they would not be in existence today if humans never discovered the internet. The internet is the only thing that never goes off- day in and day out, it has slowly become a continuum that can never die, and for huge data consumers- the only barrier is a diminished data balance that may force you off for a while. But not forever.

For all the stakeholders involved, nothing will suit us better than free and safer internet for all. An internet that is beyond hate speech, cyber monitoring, cyber stalking, cyber-bullying and cybercrime. Accessing the internet may truly be the breakthrough Africa needs beyond the dependence on underground minerals like gold, columbite and crude. It was just like a dream when that 8 year old hacked his way into pentagon and the narratives changed. With the latest innovation of Google Digital Skills to empower more people and more businesses- the internet can finally become an instrument of overall good and minimal bad. This was the essence of the Digital Rights and Inclusion Forum that held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja through April 23rd till April 25th 2019.

One fact is true in this discourse. We all have rights which must not be trampled upon, hence the essence for inclusion that will further translate to a pleasurable outcome of development, trickling little by little in a top- bottom and bottom-top approach for a better life for us all. To get there, we must first prioritize our competencies to believe we can. We have to be hardworking and deliberate about improving the conditions of our Government to be concerned with the workings of the internet.

A worthy question we make ask is if the Government is actually concerned with including ICT in our hurried 2019 budget. We must also ask if they are willing to diversify the economy by testing waters in the silicon valley of ICT and robotics, than the over flogged oil that may soon be a thing of the past in global markets. This is not a matter of if; it is a matter of when renewable energy overflows the reign of fossil fuels and combustible engineering systems that affect our ecosystem.

Crime / Zamfara in the last 7 days, by Ahmad Salkida by shehuolayinka(m): 8:57am On Apr 27, 2019
Zamfara in the last 7 days has not ushered in the desired results following Military deployment. The Military and the bandits, at best, have been playing a cat and mouse game.

At one moment, expectations rise to the impending routing of the bandits in one particular forest and in the next moment the bandits have melted unscathed to other forests.

For instance, we are witnessing an upsurge of banditry and disturbing violence in Safana and Batsari areas in Katsina state. Media and public attention on this front is at zero level, but not any less more troubling than what had been reported in Zamfara.

Specifically, the Ruggu forest in Katsina is now home and the operational base for bandits/terrorists who fled from the Zamfara plains following Military incursions there.

Nevertheless, there are still disturbing occurrences in Zamfara State that point to the presence of terrorists or embedded mercenaries. The confrontation is now taking the form of guerrilla warfare.

There was an ambush last week of soldiers within the vicinity of Talata Mafara forest. That this particular cell used locally made IED or land mines points to a possibility that it’s going to be a very long day in the trenches for both sides.
