Growing violence by Islamist extremists has forced more than 1.5 million Nigerians to flee their homes and is deepening an already dire humanitarian situation in Nigeria, the UN warned Wednesday.
"Nigeria is without question of enormous concern," said Robert Piper, who coordinates the UN's humanitarian work in the Sahel region.
He said the violence wreaked by the Islamist militants of Boko Haram was "generating more and more suffering, it is generating more and more displacement."
Nigeria has in the past six months alone seen the number of people displaced inside the country soar from 600,000 to around 1.5 million, he said, quoting Nigerian government estimates.
In addition, some 100,000 Nigerians have fled across the borders to Cameroon and Niger, Piper told reporters in Geneva.
That Nigerians see Niger, the world's poorest country, as a sanctuary "gives you a sense of what they must be fleeing from," Piper said.
More than 13,000 people have been killed since the insurgency began in 2009 and Boko Haram is now said to be in control of more than two dozen towns in its quest for a hardline Islamic state.
According to Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency, 3.3 million people have been directly or indirectly impacted by the conflict in the northeast of the country.

'OUT OF CONTROL'
"Our worry is that it will continue to spiral out of control with devastating consequences both for Nigeria itself and for the region," Piper said, adding that "the scale of the challenges there are truly very, very worrying indeed."
The fact that Nigeria produces half of West Africa's food makes the situation there all the more alarming, he said.
Taking a broader look, Piper said the entire Sahel region, which counts nine countries - Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Gambia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal - has seen a dramatic increase in the number of people scrambling to put food on the table.
Just since the beginning of the year, the number of people considered food insecure has jumped from 20 to 25 million.
Across the region, 6.4 million children are acutely malnourished, Piper said, with around 600,000 children dying of causes linked to malnutrition each year.
The UN has appealed for $1.9 billion (1.5 billion euros) towards humanitarian aid to the Sahel in 2014, but has received just $1.1 billion of that.
The UN also said it had received just $12.3 million, or 13 percent, of the $93.4 million requested for humanitarian aid in Nigeria.

The statement reads, ‘the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Suleiman Abba, hereby advices political leaders to take their campaigns to the electorate, rather than engage in disruption of government activities and daily chores of Nigerians engaged in the pursuit of their lawful businesses.
‘The IGP further urges members of the political class and their followers who have grievances to seek redress in the court of law, rather than disturb the peace of innocent, law abiding citizens.
‘These admonitions are the fallout of an ugly event today, Wednesday November 19, 2014 when some Politicians led by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, barricaded the Entrance Gates of the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja.
‘The incident though provocative and uncivilised, ended without any confrontation as the Police exhibited maximum restraint in the face of ceaseless provocation by these leaders and their motley crowd. The IGP further urges members of the political class and their followers who have grievances to seek redress in the court of law, rather than disturb the peace of innocent, law abiding citizens.’

The governor of Rivers State, Mr. Chibuike Amaechi has threatened that All Progressive Congress will form alternative government in 2015 if the coming election is rigged. Amaechi, while speaking with AIT correspondent at APC Salvation rally in Abuja reiterated the party’s readiness to dare the ruling PDP if PDP rig next election.
‘If the election is rigged we will not go to court, there will be civil disobedience, we will form our own government and we will see what will happen’, Amaechi said.

One of the major contenders for Presidential election in opposition All Progressive Congress APC Mr. Atiku Abubarkar has ruled out chance of producing consensus candidate amongst the major contenders in the party.
Atiku in a report by News Agency of Nigeria NAN monitored by our correspondent told newsmen that the aspirants will have to’fight it out’ in a free and fair delegate primary election to determine the candidate for APC in the next general election.
Mr. Atiku told newsmen in Bauchi where he had gone to meet stakeholders of the party that ‘It is too late for the party to think of holding a consensus forum for its presidential aspirants but rather, it should conduct a delegate conference where we will fight it out.’
According to him, it is one of the tenets of best practices in democracy for candidates to be allowed to test their popularity. Commenting on his relationship with the former president of the country, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,Abubakar said that they related very well.
“In spite of my disagreement with Obasanjo on political ground, there is personal cordial relationship between us; I visited him last week at his Ota Farm,” he said.

Professor Utomi has described those jostling for Presidency in the forthcoming election as oblivious of the responsibilities of the power they are seeking. The erudite professor who is obviously referring to major contenders in the coming Presidential election however said he is cold toward 2015.

APC presidential list consist of former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Governors of Kano and Imo States, Alhaji Musa Kwankwaso and Chief Rochas Okorocha, a publisher, Mr. Sam Nda-Isaiah and new entrant into the race, Speaker of House of Representatives; Hon. Aminu Tambuwal.

Prof. Utomi said in a tweet that ‘one reason I am so cold towards 2015 is that the political class seem so list full for power they are oblivious’

Prof. Utomi who is known for his vibrant contribution to political discourse was presidential aspirant of Social Democratic Mega Party in 2011 and currently a member of All Progressive Congress.

“This is in accordance with the terms of settlement as agreed by both parties that the loan be serviced as per the judgement of the Federal High Court.

“This settlement is in line with AMCON’s roles as a resolution vehicle to help stabi lise and revitalise the Nigerian banking system and econo my,’’ AMCON assured.

The oil marketer incurred AMCON’s wrath after the Chairman of Coscharis Group, Mr. Cosmos Maduka, ex plained that his foray into fuel business with Capital Oil was necessitated more by compas sion to bail the young Ubah out of a credit crunch crisis as most Nigerian banks had refused to advance him any more facili ties for his business due to his failure to honor outstanding obligations. Vibrant Venture Limited was subsequently ap pointed as a warehousing agent for the joint venture partner ship.

Maduka claimed after the joint venture deal was sealed, that both companies were able to secure a loan from Access Bank for the importation of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), but alleged that Ubah and his company breached the terms of the deal by engaging in the diversion of the imported products and other fraudulent activities which had marred the ability to execute the joint venture deal as a profitable es tablishment.

Recall that AMCON had in 2012 shut the premises of Capital Oil and Gas follow ing an Abuja Federal High Court ruling that it should take over the company’s proper ties and assets over an alleged N48.014 billion debt. Though the change of management by AMCON was not effected un til June 21, 2013

The closure of the compa ny’s 196-million-litre capacity storage tank often used by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for products storage had hampered products distribution across the country then.

As a practitioner in the real estate sector of our economy, I think I need to shed more light on the 10,000 housing units scheme.
But before I continue, I observed that one of the major problem of this administration is that the administration is not communicating its programmes in simple terms that several people will understand. Beside, that most of government programmes are not clear to several people.
I will do my best to answer few concern here as best as I can from an enlightened perspective in the sector.

Let me first start by saying that what government is doing is that it is providing money to finance 10,000 units. Currently, the application is 65,000. That means government is providing money to 65,000 Nigerians to either buy, or build new houses at lower interest rates while you have upto 10 years or more to payback such money.

Op, if you have a land, all you need to do is to get your QS, tidy your land papers and present it to the mortgage bank.
Lets assume you go for 2 bedroom flat with range of 5.5M to 7.5M and the cost of your building from the QS is N6M.
You will pay 1.2M out of it and your mortgage bank will give you 4.8M to complete the building.
You will now be required to pay the N4.8 over a period that you choose in accordance with your source of income.
The mortgage Banks will pass the N4.8 M claim to NMRC which will re-finance the bank will your monthly repayments will be pass to NMRC through your mortgage bank. That means the mortgage bank serves as intermediary between you and NMRC/government.
The advantage of this over NHF administered by FMBN is that more fund is made available through private sector as NMRC will soon become a public quoted company on NSE.
Second, as against the usual 22-27% interest rates of commercial banks, the loan is given to Mortgage banks at 10-12% while they give it out at their own rate to make marginal profit.
Third, though the interest rate is higher than that of NHF which is 6% but NHF is not commercially viable loan, hence it is not available.
Fourth, this scheme will if sustained will change mortgage system of Nigeria and more people will be able to assess mortgage.

There are more houses being built all over Nigeria than they are before, just go to Lagos-Ibadan expressway and see for yourself, go to Mowe and see. Go to Igwuruta in PHC and see, go to Airport Road in Owerri and see new places being developed. Go to Abuja-Keffi Road and see more settlement coming up.
Don't sit in your penury and assume everyone lives in poverty.

I have been studying the book link you posted, it was a very clear departure from what your friends, egift, gbawe, Obiagelli et al told us about Buhari.
The book showed that Buhari administration introduced Wage Freeze in both private and public sector (meaning workers were not paid on directive of his administration even private company workers). Buhari administration sacked (laid off) 250,000 workers. Can you imagine 250,000 people thrown out of job in less than 1 year.
Gosh, Buhari suck as a manager of economy. It explained the reason he took a loan to buy form.

If you read the book that you posted its link, it shows any sane mind that Buhari's administration knows next to nothing about developmental economics. Furthermore it exposes his lack of knowledge of international politics. Last it underscore his capacity to manage debt ratio in an emerging economy.
That link my friend is an indictment on Buhari's economics prowess and it may just be the reason why in 21st century he can not leverage on all his capacity, experience, connection and ingenuity (if he has one) to create a single product that will articulate his vision which he can sell to the his support to be able to generate finance, but rather breach laid down principles to use man-know-man to collect a loan.

President Ronald Reagan; born February 06, 1911. President USA at 70. Two terms of 4 years in 1989 he was 78.
