It all depend on your personal mindset or mental orientation. You see comical contradiction here, but I see caution and vigilance. I advocate that everywhere. There were 546,568 missing persons in the USA in 2022, and 609,275 in 2019. I hope you don't find that data comical? I live in a neighborhood listed by Neighborhoodscout and other sources as one of the safest. I have had delivery items at my front door for up to 8 days and still met it there untouched. Yet, I lock my doors, I lock my cars, I have security cameras, alarms, and other measures for safety. It is better to be prepared with useful information and not need it, than to need it and have nothing useful to leverage. Got it? maternal: |
You are right. Most of our people at the airport are very professional or at least, pretend to be, when eyes are on them. Things have significantly improved on that aspect over the years. Unless you have personal issues relating with people, it's hard to have issues with those airport staff nowadays. OgaTheTop2: |
I've been in that situation, and that means spending more money in most cases. My phone company has international plan with specific roaming rate which is higher than normal rate. I use that sparingly when my MTN acts up. Give your phone company a call and tell them your plan, they will let you know your options for international travel and especially, your specific intended destination. ndidibabe: |
When you land in Nigeria you start wondering where people get all these security issue stories from. Every country has its bad spots, understand the bad spots in Nigeria and you will be fine. Each time I'm in Nigeria, I see lots of Oyinbos around even in less expensive hotels. If Oyinbos are comfortable staying in your homeland, what is your excuse for a short vacation? On airport pickup, yes Taxis are safe and they are registered with the airport. Take additional security measures if you are not getting picked up by family. Take pictures of the taxi, the plate number, and take picture with the driver. I make sure I'm friendly and I chat them up throughout the trip, and jokingly let them know that if something happens to me the entire Nigeria military will be on their family within a few hours. Never agree to your driver stopping to pee and keep them engaged so they don't make phone calls. Those are just extra steps and may not be necessary with Airport taxis but no security measure is too much. I also turn on my navigation app (google map is fine), and key in the hotel address to give me the good routes so I can at least make sure we are always on track. ndidibabe: |
That is the story of many Nigerians abroad. Prioritize yourself as partying never stop in Nigeria even during Abacha's time. Have a specific budget for charity (only if that works for you), and only give out what won't affect your personal plans. Those are my rules and no amount of emotional blackmail can move me anymore, that stage is gone forever. If someone needs money desperately he should reach out to his local government chairman, state house of assembly, federal rep, senator, commissioner, governor, minister, special assistants etc, the list is long. He should find someone to help. oliverwrites: |
Can you imagine? Someone came to his ancestral homeland on vacation to rest after months of hustle and should now spend the bulk of his vacation budget on family support? What sort of mindset is that? So his own destiny is like that of a machine to just work to support others and die slowly? oliverwrites: |
"No place like home" may be true for some but many misunderstand what "home" is. Home is your base where you live your life. You live in New York, make your money in New York, have your immediate family in New York and you are shouting "no place like home" with reference to Nigeria, then you are confused. New York is your home, Nigeria is a vacation spot with greater attachment as your root. For others like me, "No place like home" is meaningless. I love traveling and adventure, and while my home is comfortable, I prefer to be on the road. So for me, it's "no place like vacation spots" including Nigeria ![]() PJtech: |
You are spot on about Nigeria and we share similar mindset. I see jobs everywhere but Nigerians don't see them as jobs. Examples abound including those hardworking youths in malls, hotels, lounges, farms, airports, telecoms outlets, cash transfer etc. Many of them have landed great life changing opportunities just by being visible while working those low pay customer-facing jobs. |
You had this mindset 5 years ago or your mean 35 years ago? Hollywood has different movies about different realities of life abroad, you chose the one that suit your fancy and matched your fantasy ![]() I left with a suitcase full of dreams and a head full of Hollywood visions of the “abroad”—a place where money flows easily, life is good, and you can relax without a worry in the world. In my mind, it was a kind of paradise where you could live freely, get everything handed to you, and just coast along. But once I arrived, reality hit. Hard. |

Chelsea were even lucky to get away with a point. I was expecting them to find a way to win this but they simply couldn't get any grip around a disorganized but better team. Jesse1991: |

Why all these comment about injuries? Are they the first to have few injuries. Tottenham defeated Man City. Shikena. |
Be civil. Debate, not insult. This is how the yeye house of rep guy started then he got elected into office. See the result ![]() Arizoner: |
He did well by calming down. A normal human being has the ability to think five, ten or more steps ahead even in difficult situations. Fighting a senator will have only one outcome & his life will not remain the same again. Is it worth it? I no dey take nonsense get limit bro. Don't let Nigeria happen to you, boys full prison on top nothing & it's no fun. topalistic: |
I have used Bolt extensively over several years in Lagos, Abuja, Abeokuta and Ibadan. I have never had any issue with any of the drivers, even when I sense some occasional frustration & attitude which is normal & human due to stress. Majority are nice and fun to have conversation with. Sometimes you just have to look in the mirror and you find out that you are the real issue. |

Oluwo na badass. Looks like Ooni's bodyguards brushed off a whole king of a town, and Oluwo got his own pound of flesh by also chasing out a whole king of another town. They should both respect their seat and stop jumping around. |
Let's always try to check our facts before we make a comment. Islam is the third-largest religion in the United States (1.34%), behind Christianity (67%) and Judaism (2.4%). sinola: |
