@ Na- Haha, my siblings and I did the whole smelling the chair after visitors thing. Thankfully, we never got caught. Growing up, I loved the smell of my mother's purse/handbag. Anytime, she'd send me to go grab something for her, I just loved opening it and breathing it in. Now, I love the smell of her clothes. Whenever she passes on her clothes to me, I never wash them before wearing them no matter how long she's worn it lol. |
ofala:Wow! That is precious!! |
Hello everyone, I haven't seen a Nigerian based website that has impressed me. They all look like they're from 2005 or earlier, and I don't know why because Nigerians are so intelligent. Basically, I haven't seen a Nigerian website that can be compared to a website overseas. Nothing technical here, I'm not a web designer and no nothing about web design. I made this conclusion based on how these websites look. I know I may be ignorant but I hope Nigerian based web designers out there can prove me wrong. Can anyone post the url of a Nigerian based website that is impressive? Thanks in advance for educating me. |
I was watching this video a while ago and it struck me how similar my experience was to theirs! Saturday mornings were sooo much fun growing up. It was always really laid back as I got sleep in because there was no school. I would always pretend to still be sleeping so I wouldn't have to get up and go do laundry. That's what we did first - laundry, then house cleaning for a bit. There used to be environmental sanitation when I was really young, which meant staying home and cleaning outside our house thoroughly. Then my mum and I would fry akara which we would eat with bread. Sometimes we made moimoi which is sooo delish!! Sometimes we'd have pancakes made by our dad too. We also made our hair on Saturday. By made, my mum got a girl to plait (cornrow) our hair. Thank you Rifkatou for teaching me the basics in hair styling which I have since developed on ![]() I don't remember what we watched on TV which is so strange. I guess we didn't watch anything "special" on Saturday mornings, just what we watched on any other day. Someone talked about it in the vid, Saturday afternoons were the best. Housework and laundry was done, and all we did was eat and chill out. What are your favorite Saturday morning memories growing up? http://www.pearlle.com/2012/02/reminiscing-mondays-saturday-mornings.html [flash=480,390] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3KbEPul6OA&feature/player_embedded[/flash] |
SA more linguistically diverse than Nigeria? Interesting . . . |
debrief08:That is really sad . . . |
Great post! abytes advice is spot on. Don't have anything to add on to what has been said already. I'm also not an intl student, so I don't know what goes on. But, good luck to everyone planning to come to Canada - it's a wonderful country. |
Interesting article, should remind you about schooling in Nigeria (if you did). http://www.pearlle.com/2011/12/reminiscing-mondays-discipline-master.html I have mostly pleasant memories of attending school in Bauchi. One exception to this is Discipline Master. Did anyone else have this at their primary/secondary schools? For those of you who don't know, the discipline master is a staff member whose main responsibilities include "disciplining" i.e. flogging, canning, or using his 'koboko' as we called it. Scenario: A teacher in class Teacher: If you didn't do your homework, come to the front of the class 7 students come out Teacher: Kneel down and raise your hands up, while I go and get the discipline master Teacher goes out, gets the discipline master. Discipline master walks in, koboko in hand. Discipline Master: Are these the students? Come here. He flogs each of them on the butt and sometimes back with his koboko. When he's done, he leaves. Thinking about it, I can't imagine having that as a job. Basically, all this guy did was make kids cry. That's kinda cruel. Thankfully, I was quite a good student and never had to feel his wrath. In case you couldn't tell, the saying "spare the rod and spoil the child" was fully implemented in school. I remember once in primary 2 I believe, being beating so bad I had bruises. I don't remember what exactly happened, but I believe it was one of those instances where the whole class had to be beaten because one person was disrespectful so the whole class had to suffer (whaat?!!). But really, things like that happened and these were my only interactions with the discipline master. When my lawyer dad got home later that night, he was so mad, he went to my school the next morning to see the principal and threatened to sue the school. I wasn't beaten in school again till primary 5 ![]() Did you have a discipline master in school? Share your stories. Preach sista! You get my point. |
stillwater:Hahaha. But I get your point, twitter is really an excuse for bad grammar no thanks to the 140 characters limit |
"U think u knw how 2 party? , , Try @Akon mennnn! Am off!" I'm a huge fan, however this was sort of insensitive. Although I'm sure he didn't mean it like this, his timing was wrong. I'm having trouble uploading the image, you'll have to go to the site to view it. http://www.pearlle.com/2012/01/psquares-peter-okoyes-insensitive-tweet.html |
I'm glad you find this funny. I am not suggesting HC tells Pres. Jonathan how to do his job. My hope is that with mounting pressure from the international community, Pres. Jonathan realizes that the world is watching leading to more accountability on his part. I am not a security official, and hence cannot tell Jonathan what to do. However, I do know that the Boko Haram issue did not just start yesterday. It's been going on for a while and from the look of things, Pres. Jonathan isn't doing enough to stop their attacks and I'm sure majority of Nigerians will agree with me. I am tired of sitting down and doing nothing. No offence, have you done anything to move (or try to move) Nigeria forward? |
Boko Haram, believed to have been formed in 2002 has terrorized innocent Nigerians for more than 2 years, and the Nigerian government has done nothing concrete about this. President Goodluck Jonathan's seemingly laid-back approach in putting an end to the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria is very disappointing. After Mr President said "the issue of bombing is one of the burdens we must live with", I am not convinced that Mr. President is doing enough to ensure the safety of Nigerians from this terrorist group. Sign the petition asking Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton to mount pressure on Pres. Jonathan so Boko Haram's menace comes to an end. http://www.change.org/petitions/pres-jonathan-stop-boko-harams-blood-bath The US government listens when people talk. We can get the US govt to do something about this, although I am sure this doesn't guarantee anything in Nigeria but this is worth a shot. |

If I had to choose, it would be Clinique |
Quick post: Sooo, I've been desperately trying to improve my skin's condition. I was watching makeup vids on youtube when it suddenly dawned on me that my skin doesn't glow anymore. It looks pretty with makeup on but bare faced, not impressive. Skin condition: Occasional acne (that time of the month Blackheads Combination skin, oily t-zone Dark spots (from old zits) Dull complexion I did a lot of research and here are the products I'm currently using, and I'm already noticing great results: 1. Regular facial soap/Clinique cleanser 2. Equate Daily Regenerating Cleanser 3. St. Ives Apricot Scrub 4. Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer 5. Freeman Goji Berry Facial Hydration Mask 6. Lemon (or orange) & honey mask 7. Olive oil 8 Arm & Hammer Baking Soda 9. Steaming my face 4 times a week I'll post a more detailed skin regimen in a bit. Meanwhile, I would love to hear what you've done to maintain/improve your skin's condition. http://www.bomabrown.com/2011/12/skin-care-regimen-baking-soda-for.html |

Leggings worn as pants. Walala:Not Igbo, but I'm sorry - that tribalistic nonsensical comment doesn't speak too highly of your IQ. nanidee:This is a hilarious thread. |
I don't know if you've heard of ensure plus, it contains about 365 calories. Drink about 2-3 bottles before you go to bed. A pack of 6 costs between $9-$12, depending on where you live. My brother takes whey protein. It increases your appetite, and you can also gain muscle mass faster. Always eat a ton of food a few hours before going to bed. You know when you're trying to lose weight, you're advised not to eat before you go to bed. Well, doing the opposite would work for someone trying to gain weight. Eat all the time, even when you're not hungry. |
omotofine:hahaha. . . sounds like something my brother would eat. A couple of years ago, regularly ate rice + stew + mayonnaise + ketchup Today, I made Nigerian style buns, dipped it in melted chocolate, sweetened dessicated coconuts and crushed almonds. Was surprisingly good. My brother regularly eats Instant oats (Microwavable Quaker Oats) with beans lol. He says it's really good, and even got my mum to try it out and she liked it, she's an incredibly picky eater. I can't wait to try it out. |
This should be a poll. Ronaldo. |
debosky:You need to wear sunscreen! ![]() |

Your ears for not hearing your alarm clock lol Feeling demotivated this night, who do I blame? |
