Thanks iice. You must be damn cool to have two ii's in your spelling of ice. Anyway to the topic. Yes they will be short courses. To be quite honest, our initial appraisal for the Nigerian territory showed an absence of any kind of formal training in customer service delivery. Therefore we will be running a lot of introductory courses initially and then introduce higher level courses later.
Thanks for your observation.
There are call centres in Nigeria but i am yet to come across outsourced call centres which is what you find in Asia etc. In Nigeria, UBA (Bank), MTN,GLOBACOM,VMOBILE, STARCOMMS (Telecomms companies) all have call centres. There are also a few handling emergency calls on behalf the accident rescue services.
Infact the only outsourced call centres i know in West Africa, are in Ghana working for an American firms.

Nuff Respect Iyke-D and Odeku. Lets  apprtoach issues pragmatically. Nigeria is Bigger than OBJ , Okonjo-Iwealla and anybody else for that matter. I don't see why we should all lose sleep over one person resigning from govt.
By the way will Okonjo-Iwealla step up and explain allegations concerning receiving kickbacks for organizing our debt relief through her friends the so called"consultants"?
That she wiould condescend to that level after all these years at the world bank,
A beg people lef matter.

Business / Customer Service Training Institute: Would You Sign Up? by Shinor(m): 2:22pm On Aug 03, 2006
Anytime from now we plan to roll out the Customer Service Training Institute in Lagos. Its been in the pipeline for ages but vibes we were getting from the Nigerian end was not too positive. Perhaps i should throw it open to nairalanders. What do you guys think of a specialised institution offering training in the field of customer service to people who are already working in a customer oriented industry or to people who are seeking employment in that area.
Our courses are quite direct and provide a clear understanding of what customer service is. While we have used this all over the UK, we are careful not import a wholly "foreign " concept that is why we have taken quite a number of "naija" factors into consideration while designing our courses.
So please my brothers and sisters do you think people will sign up to do courses in Customer service?

Thanks
Business / Re: Obtaining A Mortgage Loan In Nigeria by Shinor(m): 2:07pm On Aug 03, 2006
There are mortgages that operate the Uk style in Nigeria where all you need to do is put down a deposit (10-20%) of the cost of the property and the lenders will pay the rest. The two major problems with the Nigerian version is the rate of interest and the lenght of time for the repayment. I was offered a mortgage in June in Nigeria for a property in Abuja. The interest rate was 17% and the duration was 10 years.
In Nigeria the cost of borrowing is still too high and this will impact on other areas of business. If only there could be some sort of govt intervention to reduce interest rates. This will greatly help the mortgage industry.

Travel / Re: What Is The Best City In West Africa To Live In? by Shinor(m): 2:48pm On Jul 27, 2006
ABUJA according to CNN's most beautiful African city competition is second after Cape Coast. So that makes Abuja No1 in West Africa. As you rightly noted, Abidjan pre war was probably the best place in west Africa but as with most things during war time, the present crises in Ivory Coast have affected social infrastructure etc.
Accra and dakar will occupy second and third positions respectively. Banjul fourth while Abidjan, Freetown and Monrovia will be in the war torn categories.

While not wanting to bash pat Utomi, may i just add that lets go and check the man's record. He was involved with Volkswagen of Nigeria. What happened to that company? Platinum Bank is not among the first 5 banks in Nigeria. So what stands him out?
To the Nigerian dream, i think it will have to be individualistic. What is your dream within the Nigerian polity? Every man will have to dream up "their dream" regarding his/her own specific situation.

@Ndi
Thanks for your angle. I think every other post said the obvious. Why did Nuhu Ribadu and Okiro deny arresting Adenuga? I was actually on the phone to Nigeria when the news was on in Lagos and i was getting a running commentary regarding the reporters encounter with Ribadu.
Why are they denying? Are they scarred? Are they just joking?
The EFCC need to come clean on this if people are to take them serious. I am one of those who believe in what the EFCC are about but incidents like this need to be better managed.

Guys i just read an article today 9/7/2006 that the FCT Minister is about to release some funds for an abuja rail system to take off. hmmmmm. They must have read these postings.
Also OBJ has just signed some stuff with some canadians to help sort things out, Thanks for the circle line angle
Travel / Re: 4th Mainland Bridge Proposed by Shinor(m): 6:13pm On Jul 08, 2006
Hi Clocky, Thanks for making mention of a rail system. I think our leaders are scared of travelling by railway or they own all the trailers on the roads and are scared that a ressurection of our dead rail system will handicap their trailer business.
Forget the 4th lagos Mainland bridge cos it ain't happening. It was an election gimmick for the 2003 elections.
Lets talk about Abuja a city that was "supposedly planned" with the benefit of hindsight. How come there's no railway from Abuja airport to the centre of town? Infact there's no city centre in Abuja so i wonder where the train will terminate.
A beg lef matter. These guys travel all over the world and yet cannot replicate something that has the blue print available.

Ah Peeps i beg to differ here. I totally understand the need for one to speak eloquently and with clarity. But if 2 face chooses to speak pidgin english i dont see anything wrong with it. American Rap artistes dont speak proper English yet they get by.
Bob marley and a whole generation of reggae acts from Jamaica have for the last 3 decades or so spoken Jamaican "patois" which the Jamaican form of broken English. They make no apologies about it. Like they say"U either like it or bite it". So if 2 Face wan chat inna pidgin" Mek him Gwaaaannnnnnnnn."
As long as he can communicate with his audience.
Now am not making an excuse for one not polishing one's self but the medium of expression is entirely at the speaker's discretion.
Music/Radio / Re: Can 2face Idibia Still Make Good Music? by Shinor(m): 4:05pm On Jul 06, 2006
@Carmelily.Thanks hon. I have only heard one collaboration and that was with Beenie man. Good Vybe, nice party atmosphere song. Would sound even better when you've swung a few glasses too many.
Well I have to hit the nail on the head again. If 2face had any serious management, they should have sorrounded him with some pretty good song writers. Go and check all of Michael Jackson's hit songs in the 80's and also check who produced them. Quincy Jones. Making hit songs is a multi-dimensional thing. You can have a great voice but have shyte lyrics. You also need a damn good producer.
The quality of the stuff produced in Nigeria sometimes doesn't come out right. I used to own a reggae sound system and played all over. What i noticed was whenever i switched from playing a foreign tune to a song that was produced in Naija, the sound quality would drop and i would have to quickly reset the eq and ting.
2Face has got looks, Voice etc going. Get him a good song writer. Let him hang around top studios in the states. Tell you what? Just let him go and live with WYCLEF for 12 months. Am serious.

Music/Radio / Gay Community Strangle Reggae Artistes Earnings by Shinor(m): 12:03pm On Jul 06, 2006
Last Night 05/07/2006 the police in Brighton cancelled reggae artiste BUJU BANTON's concert in the heart of Brighton's gay community following protests from gays and lesbians that BUJU's lyrics encourages homophobia.
In a quick reaction the police in nearby Bournemouth also cancelled BEENIE MAN's forthcoming concert earlier slated for July 29.
The Gay and Lesbian Community are particularly vexed at BUJU's earlier big Hit BOOM BYE BYE which includes the lines,

"Is like boom bye bye inna batty bwoy* head (batty boy- lovers of rear entry)
Rude no promote no batty man dem a fe dead"

I have heard the Banton say those songs were composed in his earlier days of ignorance(not that he now supports homosexuality, JAH FORBID) but he knows better than flashing such controversial lyrics in the public domain.
Infact BUJU doesn't sing BOOM BYE BYE in any of his concerts again.
For the last or so 15 months, the gay community made it hard for reggae artistes to play outside Jamaica.
They forced Shaba to make a televised apology to the gay movement in New York.

So what de heck dem want again ?
Is like dem want de ghetto youth dem blood.
This is just a ploy to stop our talented youth dem from reach pon top.
Is Jamaican artistes today! Tomorrow they will be stopping P-SQUARE, MARVELLOUS BENJY, SHOWKEY, FACE , and all other talents from showcasing our abilities. Nuff said. Youth and Youth beware.
Nuff respec to the Anglican Community. 4ward ever!
Religion / Re: The 'Word Of Faith' Movement And 'Prosperity Gospel' by Shinor(m): 10:53am On Jul 06, 2006
Seun thanks for taking time out to do a little research on the topic. As with most things in life, people will believe what they want to believe, for various reasons. Even in the time of Jesus, there was a school of thought that leaned heavily towards the "hard road"as exemplified by John the Baptist. The bible said he ate locusts and wild honey and only dressed in outfits made of Camel hair. Jesus however was of a "lenient" disposition. But at no time did Jesus say that because John lived a hard life he was more worthy of heaven or that because he Jesus lived a more comfortable lifestyle(when compared to John) that he was not a believer.
Infact both of them testified of one another, Jesus calling John the greatest born of woman. While John said he was unworthy to untie the laces of Jesus' sandals.
My submission is as long as we live, there will be "different brands" so to speak of the gospel but What is the underlying element? JESUS IS LORD.

Music/Radio / Re: Can 2face Idibia Still Make Good Music? by Shinor(m): 3:23pm On Jul 03, 2006
Carmelily there's another thread where someone insinuated that 2face Idibia stole the lyrics to his hit song "African Queen".(I believe that everyone knows the true story is by now) Well while that is not the purpose of this thread, i just want to agree with some issues you have touched upon here and which i also mentioned in the other thread. 2face lacks quality management and that will seriously affect how far he would go in the music world. Like you rightly noted, there should have been a remake/rework of the "African Queen" video.
The world is now a global village-smaller than my mothers village of ijebu-Owerri. We cannot isolate Naija artistes from the rest of the world so we must start doing things that match up to world standards cos that's the standard by which we will be judged whether we like it or not.
Dare Art Alade's ESCALADE video wasn't bad. Think that would get a good airing anywhere in the world.
2face needs to drop KENNIS if he's to fulfil his potentials cos i must say the geezer's got something going for him,

At a time like this, we must remain steadfast and prayerful as our enemies continue to roar like lions seeking whom they may devour.
On this occasion, they have failed. If they try anything else, they will fail. Infact they are failures. They can only fail.
By now you will think spurs would be used to playing second fiddle -just like Atiku. But for where? They still try to engage us the incumbent in mind games.

TV/Movies / Re: Some Nigeria Movie Stars Profile by Shinor(m): 11:20am On May 30, 2006
Xkape, Good talk. Always been my view of Nollywood. I currently do no indulge in Nigerian movies because of the low quality (production wise) of most of the movies. But I am happy you said Nollywood is capable of doing better, Anyone remembers NTA drama festival? It was a yearly event where all NTA stations across the country would submit an entry and a winner would emerge. The all round production was fantastic.
Since the 1960's Nigerians have been doing movies that were worthy of international acceptance. I guess we all live in the "anything goes" and "get rich quick" era hence the nonsense we are fed from Nollywood.
Pa Ogunde's films were shown in the London west end. Great stuff can come out of Nollywood am positively sure.
