@BOLAONI, God Bless you. Again what did i say? GOD BLESS YOU. For me there is only one club- FLAMING-Iyo ni O. Pokulowo e, Albarka loju.

The best team manager- baba Joo.

I am awaiting when Mike adenuga will know that he has to have a club in the league just like MKO did to really maximise all the money he is pouring into sponsorship. I wish he will just buy the name stationary stores and brand dem Glo Boys, but then stores is not used to big money.

BOLA abeg run that team by me again. I have my popsie's 1967 single by King Sunny Ade dedicated to FLAMING FLAMENGOES winning the Challenge Cup. I wan put am for CD.

Its is our poku lowo e that Arsene Wenger studied-----ask him and he will confess he was a follower of STATIONARY STORES and saw our success.

I will not rest until i bring my 3 yr old to Lagos and show him old UAC stadium and Onikan.
I was born at Maye street , yaba but grew on Tejuosho street and was made to understand that in our family, we only support SUPER, so my son must understand . No time for Crystal Palace in my House.

bolaOni and Teeroy, I want to pray for you guys but am still working out which language would be best. Thanks for this thread.

@davidylan, BEN IROHA did not retire after USA 94 but continued to play in the MLS. he then made a move to the UK in the early 2000's as a defender claiming he was 28 yrs old. I WAS MAD. As God would have it, he sustained an injury in training that refused to heal after a lenghty period. This got WATFORD FC alarmed and he was subsequently released from his contract. These guys ought to be ashamed of some the lies they tell.

What Arsene Wenger is doing now with "awon ewe" -Youths, the Late Abdullahi Bebe did with stationary stores when we won the league in 92/93. With kids like Hakeem Ogunlade. I met Finidi George in Kano in 1992 after he had scored the lone goal that saw off Kano Pillars. He said to me that Stationary Stores were unstoppable that year becuase they were strong and not afraid of big names-how true.

What about wakilu Oyenuga-the only man with the copyright to score headers only.
Yisa Sofoluwe, Chibuzor Ehilegbu, Ali Jeje?

What about one of the first Nigerians to leave our local club straight for the English League? Dominic Iorfa-100 metres champion who would make Monsieur Thierry henry look like a kid when sprinting?

The list is endless but as a DIE HARD STATIONARY STORES SUPPORTER ( so you didn't know that educated people support stores?)-UP SUPER! I must mention our estwhile captain Yisa Alabi who would not touch the ball after kick off until he has shaken his white handkerchief in the air and tied it around his neck.

Of Collins Ebetimi aka Roberto Barbwire-the strong man of Stationary Stores. Sad he's collecting agbero money now at Lawanson bus stop.

TO BOLAONI AND TEEROY and all Nigerian Football fans Who said and to who did he say?

" Give me, Eboigbe and Omokaro the Eagles defence. And we shall make it a NO GO AREA."
Collins Ebetimi. Asking Coach Westerhoff to take him to the nations Cup

Penalty and red card for plenty.

God Bless u guys

Crime / Murder Britain by Shinor(m): 11:01am On Mar 19, 2007
I refrained from writing on the recent spate of killings across Britain in recent times but had to change position when i noticed a new trend in these killings-the involvement of Nigerians in some of these dastardly acts whether as victims or perpetrators.
The gun and knife culture in the UK dates back to the late 60's early 70's with the advent of the skinheads right up to the 80's. By now the Jamaican drug gangs had started resorting to guns(though on a limited scale) and knives to settle their drug wars. By the end of the 90's and early 2000, it was now a norm on Britain's streets to hear of gun related murders.
Recently Nigerians have been involved as Victims and even in some cases as Perpetrators.
Now almost daily, you hear of one murder or another on Britain's streets and its the age of those involved that shocks one. 15 year olds settling scores with guns and Knives. Young Girls urging young boys to go ahead and "kill him". Children being killed outside school gates. I was just speaking to one of my sources who confirmed that young girls as young as 13 are carrying guns and hiding them (without the knowledge of their parents) on behalf of their gangland criminal boyfriends.
Many have blamed the British Judicial system that allows underage criminals to get away with murder literally just because they are too young to be prosecuted or even arrested.
I am worried about the future of our young ones.
Where would all these end?
Its no longer just about them, Its about us too. As young and impressionable Nigerian kids living in Britain are now joining in with some ending as victims.
Has the end predicted by the good book come so soon?
Sports / Re: Memories Of The Principals' Cup In Lagos? by Shinor(m): 1:18pm On Mar 12, 2007
Had to come back here and BIG UP all the contributors. Wale BIG UP (that is if its not BIG already)!
Was first uncomfortable to discuss the violence that was attached to the Principal's cup but seeing that it has been mentioned by nearly all the contributors, let the games begin!
Was in Zumratul When we relocated to Ikorodu and had to stamp our authrority in that territory cos nuff bad boy schools like Nazareth were running things there.
So we met Oriwu High School at Epe Grammar School Grounds- I CANT EVEN REMEMBER WHO WON but the fight that ensued went on forever.
As earlier said, Zumratul's ex students ( who had by now graduated into armed bandits etc) came prepared. And dealt with the Oriwu students badly.
On Mercenaries, everyone used mercenaries. Someone said Gregs didn't use mercenaries - well i go wait for the FIFA white paper into THE USE OF MERCENARIES IN PRINCIPALS CUP COMPETITIONS IN NIGERIA . Until then i will continue to maintain that mercenaries were widely used by all and sundry.
Yes having HSC helped a number of schools as they were able to extend the playing days of some of their players. For those that didn't have HSC, we just used to say ( they are retaking their Certi-GCE).
Nuff respect to the Principals who were commited to the development of the beautiful game
Man like Mr Olowu- CMS. God Bless
Mr Omoera- Gregs. Charlie and Victor's Dad.- God Bless You.
Father Slaterry- Finbarrs. God Bless.
These men were better than Alex ferguson, Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho. Trust me, They ran things.
Remember that guy that used to ride a horse from Anwar Ul Islam? Can't remember their Principal's name but together they won BAD BOYSOF THE PRINCIPALS CUP category.

Ruddie You get heart small O. You no know say SURULERE na stationary STORES area be dat? You come dey support BCC Gboko for Lagos? A beg. Didn't know BCC had any followers in the west. Nice one. Some of us still appreciate wetin our local league produce in those days.
Good to read of your experiences.
Was never impressed by Julius Berger, especially when Taribo played for them. If anyone said he would end up playing for inter Milan when i first saw him at Onikan stadium -I would have had that Prophet shot. But then he did.
Sports / Re: Memories Of The Principals' Cup In Lagos? by Shinor(m): 11:44am On Mar 09, 2007
Wale this is the kind of topics that make old men cry. Nuff said already about the logistics-the hiring of danfo, Molue etc. It was a thing of pride to see your school team players coming down from the air conditioned school coaster.
I spent 1 year in Zumratul Islamiyya(not an al Quaedda training camp) and the only 2 things the school was renowned for was Principal's Cup Violence and Football. We produced the great Haruna Ilerika. Paul Okoku was 2 yrs my senior before going to Finbarrs. So was Sunday Benson. Friday Ekpo was almost a father when i met him there. He was the only man in the world who bore the names Monday and Friday. Then i left for Jibril Martins. And as soon as i saw this topic, my raced to 1982 Q-Finals. Jibril Martins School 3( later Iponri High School) V the Mighty CMS. Goalless for a long time only for CMS to nick it 1-0. Jibril's Keeper was Flying Eagles Fatai Alabi. It was while at Jibril Martins that i met with Yaya Okoronwata( Tarilla's Kid brother) through whom i later met Tarilla.
Nuff Memories- I no gree read because of Football.
Remember CKC Onitsha who went on to win the World Secondary school soccer competition?
Thanks for this topic, God Bless You richly.
may you draw out many more topics of like manner.
Such as Litt Day( Literary and Debating Society Day), Nna. That na another day's topic as my pastor will say.
Principal's Cup was to me at that time, more exciting than the champions league.

Music/Radio / Re: Why Isn't Nigerian Music Very Popular Internationally? by Shinor(m): 1:06pm On Jan 15, 2007
Nuff Respect to all the contributors to particular topic. Having read through, i would simply submit that like every other thing Nigerian, Nigerian Music continues to suffer a lack of international appeal for various reasons which some writers here have already highlighted.
1. You cannot find these so called artistes in Record shops abroad. I approached Premier Christian Radio London in 2002 with the CD's of some Nigerian Gospel artistes i was working with. They Listened to them, liked the stuff but wouldn't play them. So i asked why? They said when they play them and listeners phone to ask where can they get the album, where are they going to point them to as these artistes did not have any international distribution agreement.
2. The Production quality is sometimes suspect. But i believe that is getting better.
3. One contributor said we cannot rap better than Americans. How true. We cant sing ragga better than the Jamaicans. When you originate something, you possess a special ability to take to another level just like that.ich is why no Oyinbo will do Afro Beat better than Fela.
We need to evolve our style. The Congolese have done that with Makossa. It is a unique sound associated with the Congolese only. You dont hear it and start trying to figure out where it came from.
Thats why when Sunny Ade comes abroad, he gets rave reviews and his audience in England is made up of 60% Oyinbo.
4. We cannot do movies based on Hollywood lifestyles when we dont even possess the base technology to do those kind of movies.

I believe that the Nigerian Music style that will make waves internationally is FUJI, I dont listen to Fuji, but i follow its development. If the artistes sign a distribution deal with a company like VP Records in America( they are involved with spreading the Reggae/ gospel all over America), FUJI will make it.
Just my humble submission O
Family / Nigerian Kids Can't Speak Local Languages: by Shinor(m): 10:58am On Oct 02, 2006
Was taken aback recently during one of my trips to Nigeria to realise that my brother's kids couldn't speak one word of our local language-yoruba. It was a bit surprising given the fact that they live in Nigeria(are aged between 9and 6) and attend school in Nigeria as well.
I was going to excuse it that the Mom and Dad were from different parts of Nigeria and so there might be a conflict as to whose language they should spaek. But i remembered that i am a product of a cross border relationship with my Mom being a foreigner and to help me grasp Yoruba, she attended a yoruba speaking church where i was taught to read and write yoruba.
Is this the trend in Nigeria now? Where kids can't speak the local language?
I know that in the UK some Nigerian families dont support their kids speaking any Nigerian language. I think that is not a great idea. But then it's only my own little thought.
Would love to hear your experiences.

Business / Re: Woolworths Lagos Closed Down: Any Idea Why? by Shinor(m): 10:17am On Sep 14, 2006
Visited the Woolies store in Lagos. Wasn't impressed. I think it was one of those franchises that allow you to trade under a particular name only while leaving you at liberty as to what kind of products you will sell. Perhaps all they bought was the goodwill of the name WOOLWORTHS cos that shop wasn't anything like the Woolies in Europe. Again i believe it was an extension of a south African Woolworths.
As to your question why it might have closed down, i think any organisation that will rely on 100% importation of the goods they want to sell in Nigeria will fail. Part of the reason Leventis failed ditto Kingsway and UTC. In fairnesss these other stores had some local input like Walls some food from UAC foods, chicken from Oke Afa farms in Isolo some used local tailors to for their clothes division, but were let down by the death of the manufacturing sector in Nigeria.

Business / Re: Starting Mcdonalds In Nigeria by Shinor(m): 5:26pm On Aug 24, 2006
Didn't realize this McDonalds thing was still attracting contributors. The truth is Mc D's wont step lagos. Layi what you dont realize is the USD$400k or so that you are meant to use in setting up a franchised store is based on you being in an area with other McDonalds restaurants so that daily supply of beef burgers. burger baps, nuggests etc will get to you. With your store in Nigeria how would you get all their products?
They wont allow you use local replacements cos of standards. If you use local beef if one guy eats it and dies, the news will be that someone ate Big Mac and died, they wont say the location and that alone will affect McDonalds worlwide.
They would rather avoid Nigeria . They are not losing anything.
The truth has been enumerated by people like Reverend here. If you have 400k Dollars build your own chain. Believe me there's nothing to all this Big names.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: FG Bans DSTV From Airing English Premiership by Shinor(m): 10:02am On Aug 08, 2006
This is sure taking an interesting turn. I emailed a copy of the story from Yesterday's edition of THISDAY to the company who sold the rights to Super Sports. The first response they have sent me is that it is IMPOSSIBLE TO BAN DSTV FROM SHOWING THE PREMIERSHIP IN NIGERIA. As with most things of this nature, it has now gone to their legal dept and my contact there has promised to keep me posted.
They had not even heard anything to the effect until they got a copy of the story from THISDAY.

Let's wait and see.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) / Re: FG Bans DSTV From Airing English Premiership by Shinor(m): 10:13pm On Aug 07, 2006
Loverbwoy. This beyond just banning DSTV. I have been involved with football rights purchase especially for the Nigerian territory and will give you a classic example of the abuse of monopoly as exercised by DSTV.
DSTV/SUPER SPORTS purchased the SATELLITE TRANSMISSION(LIVE GAMES) rights to the English premier league. They bought the rights of the HIGHLIGHTS to the premiership. They bought the LIVE GAMES rights TERRESTRIAL TRANSMISSION. But apart from the live games on DSTV they are not exercising any other rights thereby denying other companies such rights.
I have particularly been interested with securing the rights to the highlights for rebroadcast on terrestrial tv. This is cheaper than Live games . But Super sports bought this right yet you cannot see premiership games on any terrestrial station in Nigeria. So why buy the rights when they had no intention of exercising it?

To all contributors, do not fret or worry . You will see the premiership live and direct on your tv screens.

Business / Re: Who Is Your Customer? by Shinor(m): 11:56am On Aug 07, 2006
Hi Seun i will limit myself to your last question. Who is my Customer? Strangely this is usually the starting point where we begin our Customer service training course "Achieving Excellence in Customer service".

As you rightly noted, if you don't know your customer(s), you can't serve them.

Customers are simply those to whom you provide one form of service or another. Whether you receive revenue in return or not, is not a determinant of who your customer is.

Customers are divided into internal and external customers. unfortunately, most of the time, people only limit their description of who a customer is to the external ones.

For example a receptionist receives a visitor at the lobby. The visitor is there to see Mr A who works for the company. The receptionist greets the visitor properly, offers the visitor a cup of coffee, and tells the visitor Mr A will see you shortly but refuses to tell Mr A that there is a visitor waiting at the lobby for him.

What is missing is that she also needs "to serve" Mr A properly by providing information as at when due. The visitor is the external customer while Mr A is the internal visitor who also requires the service of the receptionist.

This is very helpful and often highlighted in organisations that run along team structures as processes are often interlinked and if one part is lacking, it affects the whole structure.

Business / Re: Customer Service Training Institute: Would You Sign Up? by Shinor(m): 12:05pm On Aug 04, 2006
Customer service training is not just for call centre operatives. It cuts across nearly every sphere of business. Airline Staff, bank tellers, Store advisors, Front desk staff-hotels, security, reception etc. All these people need some sort of customer service training. So whether our call centres are outsourced or not, there's still a lot of room for people to be trained in carrying out other tasks.
In Nigeria there is a general misconception that once you are a graduate, you can fit into any role without adequate training. Not true.
Thats why they just employ graduates as customer service advisors in say for example banks but these people are still the most ill equipped to handle potentially volatile situations.
So the courses are not just for call centre operatives in fact The Nigeria Police Force is my target client,
We need to learn how to address people!
