Politics / Re: Military Coup In Nigeria [[Attempted Rumor]] by Shinor(m): 2:41pm On Feb 27, 2010
I have followed closely most postings here and see the typical "Nigerianess" running through. Everytime someone throws up an idea, the usual response is "It can't happen here". Please spare me.
If anyone had said Turai would run this country 2 years ago, the response would have been the usual Nigerian reply "It can't happen here".
In Anambra, the government house was burned down and a sitting Governor removed by an erstwhile unknown God Father. If someone had postulated that thought before the incident, we would have heard "It can't happen here".
Fellow countrymen, we live in a society where everyone is looking for opportunities to increase their daily food intake.
If a coup should happen now, the first thing is for individuals / groups to weigh the options. If they are favoured, they will support the coup. If they feel marginalised, they will complain.
A coup can happen in Nigeria. Who will stop it? Our defenceless civilians?
Do we expect a 2001 graduate who is still unemployed to go and defend democracy?
Just this week, some military leaders were picked up in Turkey.
Anything can happen anywhere.
We lack a unified spirit of patrotism needed to counter any threat to our democractic structures.
As it has always been in Nigeria, it has always been Everyman for himself, God for us all.
Until that changes, we remain open and vulnerable.

Just my thoughts
Business / Re: Creache And Baby Seating School. (advice Me) by Shinor(m): 11:33am On Feb 25, 2010
First of all, I think you should get a spell checker for your posts.
The word is Creche and it's baby sitting.
It's advice and it's also thanks a lot.
Maybe then people will take you serious.

I do not mean to be rude.

You'll need to have an excellent location with bright and colourful interior - simply put, a baby friendly environment.
Lots of toys and other educational items that can help the children settle and play.
Lots of room to allow the kids wander without posing any danger to themselves and other kids.
Are you trained?
Trained staff on hand to assist.
Health / Sharing Toilets by Shinor(m): 6:41pm On Feb 06, 2010
I recently met a woman who had a real phobia for using the toilet anywhere outside her home.
This made me wonder if there were other women in this group?
I know and agree that there are issues with regards to the possibilities of picking up germs etc from sharing loo seats.

Ladies would it help you feel more comfortable if you had a portable anti bacterial germ killing spray in your bag? Something you can spray on the toilet seat before using it?

It depends.
Wish I could upload a few pictures of my friend's shop.
But unfortunately I haven't got the pictures.
Whereabouts in London are you?
You can get door to door quotes for as little as £3.00 per kilo. At least up to Lagos.
You would only need the frames. The shelves you can always organise locally ( if you are a good artist or can take pictures).
There's a magazine called Retail Weekly. Usually has details of people selling off shop fittings etc cos the shops are closing down.
Get a design of the display window. And get that made for you in Nigeria.
You can look at shops at the Tinapa Resort. a lot of the displays were made locally.

Door to door shipping shouldn't.
Will make enquiries on your behalf. There just might be somewhere in Nigeria to get those things.
I have a friend who has a shoe shop in Lagos. Will find out where they got their shop fittings.
Business / Re: *URGENT URGENT* fashion retail merchandising FOR NEW STORES ACCROSS NIGERIA by Shinor(m): 11:00pm On Jan 23, 2010
Don't know when was the last time you visited Nigeria (Lagos to be specific)
There are obviously a few shops built to UK standards.
What you can do is buy shop fittings and ship them to Nigeria (via door to door) companies.
Or just ask these shop owners who designed / and built their shops.
If you visit a place like The Palms, you'll find shops similar to what you want to achieve.

Like i said you might have to import the materials but you will find local guys to help you put them together.

Calling all hard working, and charismatic entrepreneurs out there.
Here's an opportunity to make 2010 a dream year for you.
A UK based company is shipping out a product to be marketed in Nigeria by its Nigerian subsidiary.
Its a personal hygiene product  with the proven ability  of helping to kill off germs which are the cause of many diseases.
Would work well if you have a wide circle of friends.
Can be easily be sold in church, amongst  friends, corporate organisations, schools etc
Resellers are required to register by submitting your names and contact details at

sina@bisiolu.com

Then upon the arrival of the goods, you pay for what ever amount you are comfortable with at a discount and go and sell.

We have had mind boggling success with this product in Europe especially England and are looking to repeat the same level of success in Nigeria.

That song " let me love you forever" is not by Eddy Grant. Its by the sierra Leonean Bunny Mack. He is more of a DJ now and can be caught playing "saro" parties. Was resident at a club in Catford london in the mid 90's.

Mandators-Victor Tony Essiet is in LA. managed by one the hottest reggae management companies( Wayne Wonder's management)

Kimono is in LA too. With his whole family.

Terra Kota the sodom man is SUPPOSED to be in the US but not a word since he left Nigeria-i really wonder why he is.

Yes Dizzy K is now a Pastor with his church on Walworth rd , London beside Iceland.

Majek Fashek was member of a reggae group -JAHSTIX - made up of Amos Mcroy- Bass, JAH RICE- drums( currently in prison in Holland for murder), George Orwell- keyboard ( I just love the guy's name) Majek-lead guitar and vocals. There's one of them left out. He went solo but cant remeber his name. Fantastic session men-these guys.

@omoge I can confidently guess your age now and same goes for everyone who has contributed to this thread.

Remember BLACKMAN Akeem Kareem? He's a pastor too in London.

I was in the music industry in the 80's as a Sound System DJ . The first artiste to Clash with Terra Kota and Kimono and kill them same time.

Nuff Respect Harpo & Salvage

Heard of the show and had to ask a few Questions. Why do we have to have Govt officials at shows like that? To make it "official" or what? When snoop & Co are doing their thing do we have members of parliament waiting back stage to pose for pictures with them? Perhaps am too old to see why the show will have our senate president ( last years show) in attendance.

harpo, YES they dont need to have all the stars to have a hit show but things like this expose the mentality of our so called Big men. Having P. Diddy alone would have done the trick. I dont know what current rap/hip hop stars charge but i done something with Kool and the Gang recently and it was US D $80k. Buju Bantan US D $40k and at the moment trying to get Ziggy Marley to Lagos and he wants US D $275k so i wonder what they would have had to pay those guys to play,

All they needed was pros to package the show for them.
Business / Re: Package Delivery Problems: USPS And NIPOST by Shinor(m): 9:55am On Jun 13, 2007
I have already contributed my piece on a similar topic. Anyway i bought a TV camera in New York (B&H) and asked if they shipped to Nigeria as i was returning to London and so couldn't take the camera with me.
The guy said oh Sure and gave me 4 couriers. FedEx, DHL, UPS and GLOBAL MAIL EXPRESS. Nothing suggested that the so called Global Mail Express was another name for USPS. I chose Global Mail Express. The difference between them and FedEx was around $100. I paid and after getting back to london, i tried to track the item. It was then i realised that Global mail Express was another arm of USPS.
My people, the moment i realised they delivered through NIPOST, my beards went white from worry.
I quickly organised a 40 day fast with a continuation clause to carry on fasting until the item arrived lagos.
My phone bill went up as i called USPS every other day. There was no need to check whether my blood pressure went up around the time. Why state the obvious?
Finally the same God who saved Daniel from the lion's den came to me inside NIPOST's cage and delivered me and the camera to Lagos.

I have sworn not to go near USPS or NIPOST again.
Strangely when i have sent stuff by recorded delivery frm the UK, Its reached Nigeria without probs.

PRAISE GOD, HALLELUYAH

Travel / Re: Does The Us Embassy Visa Policy In Nigeria Discriminate? by Shinor(m): 10:05am On Apr 04, 2007
I have never been to the US embassy in Nigeria but from the tales of woes peddled around, i think i can conjure a picture of what its really like in there.
Even though i have qualified for a good while now for a British passport, is till carry my Nigerian passport around.
I have done my fair share of globe trotting around the world including a trip to China. I then applied for an American Visa at the US embassy here in London afterwards and expected the yanks to ask silly questions like what did i go to China for.
But the young lady was sweet. Asked what Job i did, do i own my house etc. In my bank statements, there was nothing extra there just my day to day transactions etc.
She then asked why did i want to go to the states, This was the craziest part cos i didn't fine it in me to offer a simple answer. I told her amongst my friends, i suddenly realised that i was the only one who had not visited the US. And that i feel out of place when they talk about the US, by this time, the interviewer was pissing herself with laughter and she said OK am going to let you go so you dont feel out of place when you meet up with your friends again.
I think they are more humane in the Uk office. If i hade given that kind of answer in Lagos, i guess i would have been shown the door.
If the embassies are bad, wait till you get to their airport. Thats a story for another day.

Good luck.
Am now applying for my British passport

@consultant & adconline
Thanks for your experiences. To be honest i didn't choose USPS. the name that was given to me was Global express mail which i thought was a new player in the courier world. It was when the goods did not arrive after 1 week that i started to phone up B&H, By this time i was back in london and only then did i realise that USPS/Global mail Express were one and the same and that they deliver in Nigeria through NIPOST. I almost fainted and started confessing that the goods will arrive in Nigeria in Jesus name. During this period, my goatee turned grey very quickly cos my thoughts were always on what would happen should the cameras not arrive.
I have learnt my lesson and your experiences will further compel me not to use USPS again to ship anything to Nigeria.

9ja4eva, the 1960's had i think haruna ilerika - stationary stores who was a school boy at the time he played for Eagles . I stand to be corrected. the late dan Ayam, Kenneth Olayombo. Peter Anieke aka Baby Anieke, There were quite a few Ibo players but remember the civil war caused a disruption in the flow of things.

I shipped some Movie cameras i bought from B&H in Newyork to lagos via Global Express (USPS) there was a $70 difference between them and UPS. It took 28 days . but it arrived Lagos in one piece. It was deposited at General Post Office marina. NIPOST is the official partners of USPS/GLOBAL EXPRESS. They in turn sent a slip to the person i sent the cameras to who now went to collect them.
The customs office there (GPO , marina) asked for N35k which was eventually brought down to N7k,
If you are brave enough to leave your goods in the hands of NIPOST like i did, then try USPS.
Worse still you can't track the goods when they leave America.

@BOLAONI, God Bless you. Again what did i say? GOD BLESS YOU. For me there is only one club- FLAMING-Iyo ni O. Pokulowo e, Albarka loju.

The best team manager- baba Joo.

I am awaiting when Mike adenuga will know that he has to have a club in the league just like MKO did to really maximise all the money he is pouring into sponsorship. I wish he will just buy the name stationary stores and brand dem Glo Boys, but then stores is not used to big money.

BOLA abeg run that team by me again. I have my popsie's 1967 single by King Sunny Ade dedicated to FLAMING FLAMENGOES winning the Challenge Cup. I wan put am for CD.

Its is our poku lowo e that Arsene Wenger studied-----ask him and he will confess he was a follower of STATIONARY STORES and saw our success.

I will not rest until i bring my 3 yr old to Lagos and show him old UAC stadium and Onikan.
I was born at Maye street , yaba but grew on Tejuosho street and was made to understand that in our family, we only support SUPER, so my son must understand . No time for Crystal Palace in my House.

bolaOni and Teeroy, I want to pray for you guys but am still working out which language would be best. Thanks for this thread.

@davidylan, BEN IROHA did not retire after USA 94 but continued to play in the MLS. he then made a move to the UK in the early 2000's as a defender claiming he was 28 yrs old. I WAS MAD. As God would have it, he sustained an injury in training that refused to heal after a lenghty period. This got WATFORD FC alarmed and he was subsequently released from his contract. These guys ought to be ashamed of some the lies they tell.

What Arsene Wenger is doing now with "awon ewe" -Youths, the Late Abdullahi Bebe did with stationary stores when we won the league in 92/93. With kids like Hakeem Ogunlade. I met Finidi George in Kano in 1992 after he had scored the lone goal that saw off Kano Pillars. He said to me that Stationary Stores were unstoppable that year becuase they were strong and not afraid of big names-how true.

What about wakilu Oyenuga-the only man with the copyright to score headers only.
Yisa Sofoluwe, Chibuzor Ehilegbu, Ali Jeje?

What about one of the first Nigerians to leave our local club straight for the English League? Dominic Iorfa-100 metres champion who would make Monsieur Thierry henry look like a kid when sprinting?

The list is endless but as a DIE HARD STATIONARY STORES SUPPORTER ( so you didn't know that educated people support stores?)-UP SUPER! I must mention our estwhile captain Yisa Alabi who would not touch the ball after kick off until he has shaken his white handkerchief in the air and tied it around his neck.

Of Collins Ebetimi aka Roberto Barbwire-the strong man of Stationary Stores. Sad he's collecting agbero money now at Lawanson bus stop.

TO BOLAONI AND TEEROY and all Nigerian Football fans Who said and to who did he say?

" Give me, Eboigbe and Omokaro the Eagles defence. And we shall make it a NO GO AREA."
Collins Ebetimi. Asking Coach Westerhoff to take him to the nations Cup

Penalty and red card for plenty.

God Bless u guys

Crime / Murder Britain by Shinor(m): 11:01am On Mar 19, 2007
I refrained from writing on the recent spate of killings across Britain in recent times but had to change position when i noticed a new trend in these killings-the involvement of Nigerians in some of these dastardly acts whether as victims or perpetrators.
The gun and knife culture in the UK dates back to the late 60's early 70's with the advent of the skinheads right up to the 80's. By now the Jamaican drug gangs had started resorting to guns(though on a limited scale) and knives to settle their drug wars. By the end of the 90's and early 2000, it was now a norm on Britain's streets to hear of gun related murders.
Recently Nigerians have been involved as Victims and even in some cases as Perpetrators.
Now almost daily, you hear of one murder or another on Britain's streets and its the age of those involved that shocks one. 15 year olds settling scores with guns and Knives. Young Girls urging young boys to go ahead and "kill him". Children being killed outside school gates. I was just speaking to one of my sources who confirmed that young girls as young as 13 are carrying guns and hiding them (without the knowledge of their parents) on behalf of their gangland criminal boyfriends.
Many have blamed the British Judicial system that allows underage criminals to get away with murder literally just because they are too young to be prosecuted or even arrested.
I am worried about the future of our young ones.
Where would all these end?
Its no longer just about them, Its about us too. As young and impressionable Nigerian kids living in Britain are now joining in with some ending as victims.
Has the end predicted by the good book come so soon?
