What do you expect when you bring someone from AFDB to head a critical part of our power sector? This is another 100 step backward. Those contracts that are revoked will be technical to the sustainability of the next to nothing Megawatts we have.

TCN should be headed by a technical person.
Only time will tell if Fash is doing the right thing

Politics / Re: Lagos Needs $30bn To Execute 30 Capital Projects In Five Years by Sibrah: 3:05pm On Feb 07, 2017
AshiwajuFoward:

Of course it DOESN'T! The Federal govt is in charge of all the duties and regulation of the ports. That's why the state's trying to build its own airport and 2 seaports. Even common VAT taxes that is generated in the state (the highest in the country) sef goes to Abuja. Why else do you think the state govt was recently trying to have the law changed via the national assembly so that it can get just 1% out of the VAT generated from the state.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/09/fashola-wants-part-of-revenue-generated-from-lagos-ports/

So all that billions has been coming from taxes alone? The FG won't like the idea of a LASG owned port oh . . .

Lagos does NOT collect any revenue from import duty, the FG collects that. Infact, all the revenue generated from the Lagos ports (sea and air) and even the ones customs generate from her land borders ALL go to the federal govt.
Really? So you mean Lagos gets nothing from imported goods? Please enlighten me. . .

author=Sibrah post=53496653]Are you saying federal allocation equals Nigeria's economy? Stop being ignorant.
If Nigeria stops importing rice, flour, petrol today Lagos losses half its import duty revenue. Lagos is dependent on Nigeria.
I don't know what you are trying to prove but it certainly doesn't make sense to me. First, Lagos does not take import duties, I believe that is taken by fg. Secondly, I believe Lagos has the highest number of middle class income earners meaning if Lag were to be a country, the import duty it would receive from importations would still be high. The VAT from products in Lagos used by Lagosians is still about 56% of the entirecountry's VAT yet Lagos does not collect VAT, what about the CI Tax?-that goes to the FG also. I would say it this way, the fg is dependent on Lagos not the other way round. However, Since you believe Lagos isn't self sufficient, could you pls tell us what it means for a state to be self sufficient.
My understanding of the whole arrangement is such that Lagos benefits from port activities. May not be import duty but then but I strongly believe they get some form of revenue from importation asides tax. That way, the more the imports by Nigerians outside Lagos, the more money Lagos gets. I know Lagos has some industries and lots of headquarters from where it gets tax. I may be wrong though.

Hmmmmm, I hope it's not too late to correct this. When Unilorin was setting the standard then, people were saying it's a secondary school, but today, Unilorin has achieved proper dressing code to an encouraging standard. But in Unilag, its already part of the students' way of life, now they want to do the necessary. Let's wait and see if they will adhere. I'm always proud to be a product of UNILORIN.
Set standard? Unilorin copied it . . .

You are very ignorant of the way things work. Lagos is the only state that can survive without federal allocation. The size of the allocation is based on oil price.
Are you saying federal allocation equals Nigeria's economy? Stop being ignorant.

ITbomb:

Some of these instances where government's actions have been counter-productive to the economy are still fresh in our memory:

1. Delay in the appointment of ministers and setting up of the executive council for 6 months after inauguration.
2. No definite economic policy statement for almost a year.
3. Scandals and embarrassing Budget 2016 scandal which affected its performance.
4. The unwise hold on an impossible exchange rate in the face of dwindling government revenue.
5. Seeming lopsided appointments and persecution of political opponents in the name of fighting corruption.
6. Unguarded statements about official marginalization of a section of the country because of voting pattern (97% vs 5%).
7. Uncertainty in the President capacity to perform his official functions.

These 7 Points are valid indicators that caused many investors to withhold investments into the country.

The problem with 'confederation' is that it is more of a SE/SS thing. All the major tribes in the SE/SS are confederations. Igbos still remain a confederation of clans to this day. Ijaws reman a confederation of clans to this day. The entire Akwa-Cross area remains a confederation of clans and linguistic neigbours to this day.

However, Yorubas and Hausas are 'empire builders' who find the idea of 'confederation' a strange one. Thats why both of them united to fight Ojukwu to remove it

Eventually, for Nigeria to have any chance of surviving, it must be run as a confederation or a confederacy.
Did they have to unite? Yorubas n Hausas where part of Nigeria already and remained during the war. Did present day Delta, Edo, and Kogi also have to unite with Nigeria or they were part of it?

Nigeria is one big fraud. The Northerners in particular are ready to produce excess children just to remain majority and stay in a country with infidels. I no longer pity their poverty again . . .

It is obvious the Duara cabal will seek to derail any protest with force. They won't risk another hearer-doer type of protest that installed Jonathan.
Why do you think they gave the President an indefinite leave? They wouldn't want Jonathan 2.0 to manifest with Osinbanjo as an actor. Imagine, first a mere Deputy governor and now a commissioner . . . Osinbanjo should watch what he signs, it could be a resignation letter.

The only thing keeping the Duara cabal from announcing the death of their mentor is the fact that Osinbajo do not want to resign
Osinbanjo should look at any document he signs as from now on. Those people are desperate enough to draft a resignation letter and serve him same as a contract or different document . . . If they could give Jonathan complete sport then it is possible.
