Politics › Re: Tariff Increase, Solution To Improve Power Supply – NERC by Sibrah: 9:14am On Jan 26, 2017
favorchild2017:
These guys are criminals, they have jacked the prices up so many times, yet no signifcant improvement in electricity.

Why then did they buy the power plants in the first instance if they didnt have money to run them.

The truth is if we agree for an increment, i guarantee you, we wont encounter significant improvement in power.

Also they will still come back and say the same story again.
the excuse they gave us b4 was that certain customers(MDAs) where owing them, now they want to overcharge those paying to make up for the shortfall of those owing them.

Increase the tariff. You guys are about to be booted out!!! 2019 is too far!
Stop being petty. This has nothing to do with Buhari but Jonathan under who the power sector was privatized to give the agencies like NERC too much power.

So I should sit down close my eyes to the truth and be clapping for them that the economy has recovered or what? We applauded currency swap deal with China, we are yet see the benefits. We celebrated the recovery of funds yet we still need to borrow to fund budget. What about blocking of leakages as a result of TSA, what is the end story? Don't even talk of criticism yet!

repogirl:
This will be a very naive and unsustainable means of controlling the FOREX rates by the CBN.

If by now you haven't learnt that CBNs intervention is only worsening the situation, then I don't know whether you have any reasoning skills whatsoever.

CBN alone cannot control the rates. Nigeria needs to partner with foreign investors and recreate the bustling economy we had before. Only investments can help oursitutation and foreign investors will never sink their money into a manipulated economy.
You obviously didn't understand the article. Intervention of CBN in the forex mkt is the means through which we been stabilizing exchange rate for ages. It is done through auction of dollar at a cheap rate. Research it and see for urself.

repogirl:
How does this affect the prices of goods in the market that have tripled in price? Foolish people.
If you read and comprehended the article you will know that the first step to the price of foreign food reducing is what the OP is about - increase of reserve. If the reserve hits, say $35bn, the govt can easily flood the forex market with cheap dollar this would crash the dollar rate as there would be excess supply.

Some good news coming for the economy. I know that once the Dollar/Naira exchange rate is fix the healing process of the economy will begin, but sadly I doubt the commitment on the part of the government to do so. firstly the rise in our foreign reserve is in no way attributed to any policy of theirs but the in rise in the price of crude oil. secondly, there is still a bit of politic in the exchange rate and access to the it. After over a year, we are yet to see the benefits of the currency swap agreement with china.

I just pray and hope that the "Auto Pilot" flying our nation steers us to a more favourable economic clime
Must you criticize. If things get worse it is Buhari, but when it improves it is oil price.

Guy, look at the proportion, not magnitude.

That's about 2% Max, not even up to. It's still very low, compared to the proportion of graduating students that get this type of grade at a random private school or universities abroad.
that's about or almost 4%.

231/6000 is fair. It seems most public schools are now realising that its is counterproductive to put a ceiling on the amount of First class grad they churn out each year.

Are you saying your baba has failed?

Can Buhari restructure Nigeria without the influence of a supportive legislative? Please stop derailing further.

Well according to Sarkki, we need not restructure
If you study the topic closely, you will see that it addresses a age-long challenge that spans well beyond the tenure of any party or dispensation. We need to restructure irrespective of who rules.

@bold, I purposely started the topic because of inconsistent posters like sarrki whose alliance appear to be for a particular party and region.
