Education › Re: My Candid Advice For Nigerian Graduates With 2.2 by SILVERLINES: 4:35pm On Nov 15, 2020 |
Rapmoney: In as much as we always try to paint and re-paint realities, they still stare at us in the eyes with the greatest level of confidence or boldness you can think of.
I am using this post to offer a candid advice to Nigerian graduates within the 2.2 grade level, especially, those folks who graduated within the last 2 years. I said this because I should think most of the folks who graduated 5 to 10 years ago would have been able to create something for themselves, whether on a small or large scale.
Graduating with a 2.2 grade should not make you start dwelling on how you did it wrong and what you could have done and not have done. Your 2.2 grade does not mean you are not intelligent or brilliant. Certificates from Nigerian higher institutions these days have lost their true value and relevance. There is little or no difference between university certificates and cardboard papers or wallpapers. Your 2.2 grade should give you the signal that the labour market is not friendly to you because even the first class and 2.1 graduates are not finding it easy as well. Except you have strong connections, you may never get that dream job of yours with your 2.2 cert. It is the truth. There is no proverbial Good Samaritan anywhere. Stop waiting and act.
ADVICE FOR 2.2 GRADUATES
1. Stop looking for that dream job that is almost nonexistent. Get productive in any small firm that employs you. Even if the salary is not big. Make sure you save aggressively like a mad man. Give yourself few years and start your own business in any lucrative industry you have interest in and passion for. Grow your business diligently and gradually. Make sure your eyes are wide open kokoroko like those of a hawk. No room for distractions from unserious friends. Business first.
2. Humble yourself and learn a good lucrative skill. Nigerian university education is almost like a scam! The country does not possess the industrial capacity to absorb graduates from most of the departments and faculties you fancifully look at in JAMB brochure. Again, without connections, there is no Good Samaritan out there. Go learn a good skill and TRY TO BE VERY GOOD AT IT; it should not even be related to what you studied in school. You should explore other career paths in life.
The Nigerian society does not always believe in 'practicalize what you can do for us to see'. So even if you are a very bright person who graduated with a 2.2 due to some unfortunate circumstances, you may never get that chance to prove your worth or knowledge to get employed in your dream industry. That is how the system is. Yes, it is all messed up you would say. And you are right. The system believes in connections laced with mediocrity and financial gratification.
My candid contribution...
Happy Weekend! OP may God bless you for this topic you created, same I have been advising them. In today's Nigeria there's no difference between a bachelor degree holder and SSCE holder. I studied biochemistry and graduate with upper division back it up with a master degree but I couldn't find a job and feeding then was a problem till I diverted my attention to computer and programming there I find my fortune and now realise that what I am today I would have been better without going to the university. |

Politics › RSG TO PAY N20MILLION EACH TO FAMILIES OF POLICEMEN, SOLDIERS KILLED BY IPOB by SILVERLINES(op): 8:10pm On Oct 28, 2020 |
RSG TO PAY N20MILLION EACH TO FAMILIES OF POLICEMEN, SOLDIERS KILLED BY IPOBRivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has announced N20 Million compensation to the families of each of the soldiers and policemen killed by members of proscribed Indigenous Peoples Organization of Biafra (IPOB) in Oyigbo last week. In addition, the Governor has promised to rebuild all burnt police stations in Oyigbo and vowed to ensure that the terrorist organisation no longer exist in Rivers State. Governor Wike stated this during a condolence visit to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan and families of the slain policemen at the Rivers State Police Command on Wednesday. The governor who was accompanied by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo; the Commissioner of Information, Paulinus Nsirim; and the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Professor Zacchaeus Adangor, described the gruesome murder of the policemen and soldiers as unacceptable and unfortunate. He stressed that the State Government will support the Police to make sure that all IPOB members who masterminded the killing of the policemen and soldiers, as well as the wanton destruction of Police stations in Oyigbo are apprehended to face the full wrath of the law. “IPOB masterminded the killing of our gallant officers of the Nigerian Police and Army. We want to state clearly that Rivers State Government will support you to make sure that any of the perpetrators of this hideous crime does not go free. Enough is enough. You cannot continue to kill our policemen who have not done anything; who have not committed any crime” he said. Emotionally stricken by the presence of the grieving wives and children of the killed policemen, Governor Wike, vowed to ensure that IPOB will no longer exist in any part of Rivers State. According to him, the killing of policemen was one crime that the State government will never condone. The Governor announced that the State Government has decided to pay the sum of N20 million to each of the families of those killed by IPOB members in Oyigbo. He further assured the Police Commissioner that the State Government will rebuild all the police stations torched by IPOB, and provide necessary support to policemen whose residence were vandalised and rendered homeless. The Commissioner of Police, Joseph Mukan, said the Governor by his decision to commiserate with the Command and the deceased families, has demonstrated he is a compassionate father of the State. Mukan explained that the Police and the Army have taken over all IPOB stronghold in Oyigbo and will ensure that the group cease to exist anywhere within the State. The Police Commissioner maintained that the Command will not abdicate its responsibility by ensuring that IPOB which had been declared a terrorist group by the Federal Government in 2017, continue to use Rivers State as launch pad for its terrorist attacks. RSG TO EMPLOY 5000 YOUTHS INTO STATE CIVIL SERVICE
*Civil Servants from grade level 1 to 10 to resume work. Rivers State Executive Council has approved the employment of 5000 youths into the State Civil Service. The approval was given during its meeting on Wednesday 28th, October 2020, which was presided over by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike and held at Government House, Port Harcourt on Wednesday. Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Commissioner for Employment Generation and Empowerment, Mr. Sylvanus Nwankwo said the youths must not be more than 35 years. He said there are existing vacancies in the civil service needing Engineers, Lawyers, Medical Doctors, Technicians and other fields of profession that these youths will fill. Also addressing journalists, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim said the recruitment drive undertaken by the Wike administration will cushion the employment gap in the state. Nsirim also said that the council approved that civil servants that were asked to stay back at home during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown are to resume work on Monday 2nd November, 2020. "Civil servants on grade level 1 to 10 who have been at home because of COVID-19 pandemic lockdown are to resume work Monday November 2nd 2020. Similarly, bars that have been closed down since COVID-19 lockdown are to open , while night clubs will remain closed" he said. According to the Commissioner council also approved a minor cabinet reshuffle that has moved the Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs to take charge of the Ministry of Works. He said the current Commissioner for Works will now head the Ministry of Urban Development and Physical Planning, while the commissioner he is replacing moves to the Ministry of Transport. Nsirim stated that the current Commissioner for Transport will now be in charge of the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Community Affairs. The Information Commissioner also said council decided that the Rebisi Flyover will be commissioned on the 7th November, 2020 by the Minister of Work, Babatunde Fashola (SAN). Nsirim informed that Public Bars that were closed for business due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic are now to open, while night clubs will remain closed. On his part, the Commissioner for Youths, Prince Ohia said the council approval for the employment of 5000 youths shows that governor Wike is youth friendly. Crime › Wike Urges Council Chairmen, Youths To Fish Out IPOB Members by SILVERLINES(op): 7:18pm On Oct 26, 2020 |
WIKE URGES COUNCIL CHAIRMEN, YOUTHS TO FISH OUT IPOB MEMBERS
Rivers state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has charged the 23 council chairmen, and youths in the state to fish members of the proscribed Indigenous Peoples Organisation of Biafra (IPOB) in the State.
Governor has also warned that any council chairman that allows IPOB to hold processions and hoist its flag within their jurisdiction in Rivers State, risk sack.
He made this assertion during a meeting with all the 23 Local Government chairmen, Community Development Committees and youths leaders at the Government House, in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The governor described Rivers state as the most accommodating state for all Nigerians. To buttress this, he stated that here has never been any historical incident of different ethnic groups clashing in the State as has been the witnessed in other parts of the country.
"We can never be against any ethnic group. We can never do that .we have lived in harmony with the Ibos, the Hausas, and with Edo people. Everybody that comes to this state we have lived in harmony with. And so Nigerians must commend Rivers State as a place where you have never had problem between this group and that group " he said.
Governor Wike, however, maintained that while the people of Rivers State believe in the unity of the country, they will not allow criminals under the aegis of a terrorist group called IPOB to continue to threaten the stability of the state.
"There is one terrorist group they call IPOB. I did not declare them terrorist group, the court declared them terrorist group. Not me. The federal government declared them a terrorist group. IPOB cannot use Rivers state to be place where they will be launching attack. If you allow that, your future, your children's future is gone" he said .
Infuriated by IPOB's effrontery to hoist its flag in Oyigbo, the governor directed the council chairman to ensure there will not be another occurrence of this treasonous act.
"Go to Oyigbo and see what they have done. Destroyed the court. What did the court do? See the soldiers they killed and burnt them. See the policemen they killed and burnt them and then you said people will sit and fold their arms".
The governor, while calling for vigilance on the part of Rivers people, however, warned sternly that IPOB members should not delude themselves because Rivers state cannot be colonised or annexed by any group, particularly, while he is still the incumbent governor of the State.
He asserted that Rivers state can never be annexed to any state, to any zone. According to him, Rivers state is Niger Delta and will remain in Niger Delta.
He explained that while every Nigerian is allowed to reside in Rivers State, but those who wish to do so must live in peace with the people of the State.
"Ibos are living and doing their business here and they will continue to live and do their business here. We support that. But that terrorist group call IPOB, cannot determine what happens in our state. To tell us where they own. It will never happen and we must not allow it to happen".
Governor Wike charged all chairmen of councils, youth leaders, CDCs to go into their various communities and identify all those IPOB members. He has meanwhile emphasied that nobody of Ibos extraction legitimately residing and doing business in the state must be harassed.
"But there are criminal elements that we must not allow, and the criminal elements are those who said they are IPOB members. Federal government has proscribed them, I have proscribed them" he said .
He called on the people to defend the territory of Rivers State and ensure no part of the State is annexed by a criminal organisation or terrorist organization.
"We cannot allow it. All our vigilantee groups must be encouraged. Everybody must be at alert. Work with the security agencies to make sure nothing call IPOB exist in this state. No procession. Not even a meeting anywhere. Identify where they hold meeting" he said
Rivers State Commissioner of Youth Development, Hon. Ohia Prince Obi, lauded the governor for interfacing with the youths as this will give them a sense of belonging in the affairs of the State.
The chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria in Rivers State , Chijoke Ihunwo, appeal to Governor Wike for clemency for wanted , Stanley Mgbere, who led IPOB members to attack the palace of the king of Onne, was rejected.

Anyways it's not all of the will return safely back to Abuja, for number of decades the so-called Nigeria government has drilled resources from the Niger Delta communities till now we have not seen any federal government presence in Nigeria Delta. No employment for the indigenous peoples of Niger Delta, no industry built, no hospital built, no innovation, no scholarships for the people, no drinking water, just NDDC who stole the money same Northern people manipulated everywhere. Riverines communities have been polluted with wast from oil companies who would rather recruited their staff from Lagos and brought them to Niger Delta to work, oil companies don't recruit from their operating base rather Lagos State which their head offices located and same they pay taxes to. aquatic lives are dangered, Fisher men no longer caught from the sea cos of chemical waste these wicked Oil companies empty to the river. Currently major Niger Delta communities can not cultivated their farm lands. No drinking water. We are doomed, Niger Delta how long shall we continue to fold our harm and watch these opression continue, how long shall we got carried away by empty promises, how long shall we Watch our fathers and mothers suffering from toxic government and oil companies operating our land. Arise for the future that our generations will not dwell in a condition as worst as we are suffering now. Our graduates are rooming the streets, our schools are not equipped. our engineering graduate are ordinarily labourers for those who cares to employ them.
