Thank you!
I will look into it
Taal17:
Look at research work attached to Universities, they get funding opportunities and can give sponsorships
Also look at us based organisations and consultancies that do international development work. Most of these are in the East coast e.g IIE
Look into test development in say literacy

Civil service sector always needs teachers you can see their job openings or at least find out what you need to work as a teacher eg certs and see opportunities.

Just have your strategy of places/ organisations to target so you track opportunities open to you.

I am currently in the US doing my masters but I am scared of job opportunities for my course(rhetoric and Composition) and PR route .Many people are suggesting that I should switch to nursing as that one has more benefits than my course. I am confused on what to do

I think the basics is ; introduction, body and conclusion as we were taught.
Also make sure , each paragraph conveys an idea i.e ( if you are writing about 3 ideas , you will have a paragraph for introduction, 3 paragraph for the ideas (body) and a last paragraph for conclusion).

For the sentence structure, start with the main point (the first 2/3 sentences in the paragraph), so the readers know exactly what you’re writing about without having to read everything. Then the remaining sentences can be used to explain the first sentences.

Also re-read to ensure there is a logical flow in your words.

I don’t know if this helps and there are different types of writing (e.g a thesis and dissertation will be different, I assume that’s not what you need help with but assignments in class)

A tip : I always make my introductions catchy , so the reader has no option than to be intrigued. Though there is a school of thought that believes catchy introductions are cliches.

And its more peaceful in the midwest compare to other state
Rachie83:
Hello everyone, it's nice to come across this thread. I remember around 2916/17 I used to read on thread like this while I was in Nigeria hoping to find myself in the US someday but exactly end of 2017 I got in with my hubby. Anyway to those who still contemplating of coming to US do not give up your dream although US is very hard to get in now but some people are still coming in. US is a land of opportunities with less cost of living compare to Canada and UK although it depends on the State you are. If you are a new immigrant midwest states are the best for you(Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Iowa, part of Illinois,
Missouri etc) interm of settling in on time because the cost of living is cheaper and a lot of job opportunities for new Comer although the cold is much during the winter. I would not advise new comers with no legal status to stay in Atlanta, Texas, California, Florida etc Atlanta Georgia is out of the pictures because the state pays lower and some bills are higher eg Auto insurance is ×3 of that of Indiana. Texas is not expensive but no immigrants job(if you understand what I mean) California is generally expensive. We landed in Indiana which really helped us to get settled on time but we chose to explore and we moved to Atlanta but that was a mistake and we are planning to relocate back to Indiana.

I am here to give one or two input when it comes to issues here in the US.

There is space for everyone in the US.However do your research and homework very well before jumping into f1. If you don't have sponsors, apply to cheaper schools. If you can get funding ,please strive for that too .All in all ,do your homework so that you can get it right.

When you tell people to plan well before jumping to obtain a visa, they tell you you're trying to block their destiny. Your friend is in a lot of trouble. Her only option is to get a transfer. If she goes out of status, it will be difficult to reinstate her.

TravelRe: If You Cannot Cook, Please Do Not Open A Nigerian Restaurant Abroad by Sisib15: 4:06am On Sep 11, 2023
This is so funny
Abi1985:
Nigerian food and cuisine is very rich and diverse. I personally think Nigerian food is the best. But unfortunately there are some Nigerian restaurants overseas who give Nigeria food a bad reputation. Sometimes they just cook rubbish and serve to international customers. Food is what bring people together, stop cutting corners and cook the food well. Foreigners know what good food taste like even when they try Nigerian food for the first time. When rubbish is served, some go online and write bad reviews or even joke how bad Nigeria food is lol.
If you cannot cook , please do not open a restaurant especially if you happen to be the very few Nigerian restaurant in that city, town or state. It is bad enough that some foreigners associated Nigerians with internet fraud, bad food should not be one of them.

I’m jobless at the moment but I’ve been saving from my former job for two years and also got a couple millions from sport betting and inheritance. I’m confused about this while japa thing as I don’t want to go abroad and start doing useless jobs or start suffering or get depressed in another man’s land. I want stability and peace in a country with a reasonable economy. Also, I have a first degree in English language, I’m 24. I’m confused on the path of my life to take please advise me.

This is actually a good way to make some extra money as a student here in the US. It’s not official but no one will monitor you to know if you make hair for people or not lol. Haircare is super expensive here in the US, so if you have such skill, you can make hair for fellow Nigerians in your school or close classmates at a lower rate than regular salon and make some cash from that. Make sure your customers pay in cash ONLY. You can even defend that by saying you help your friends with their hair and they tip you, so that is not officially a salary and you can do that after classes or during the weekend in your house. I bet if you are doing good job, you’d have a bunch of customers coming to you via referral.

Those skills are actually good to have for international students coming to the US. Other skills that might be useful include tailoring, phone repairs, barber, etc. Just don’t go and open a hair salon as a student under F1 visa. LOL.

In my school then, I had this low key barber who knew how to cut hair and would cut my haircut for a much lower price than regular barber shop. And he was making a lot of money from students like me.

So don’t let anyone tell you it’s part of your 20hrs per week max on campus job.
Cheers and congrats on your visa approval.

Wishing other prospective visa applicants all the best! 😊

Vo don show you shege
Doyin400l:
STOP wasting your money on US visa.

Those VO at the embassy know what they are doing, just opening business center on your heads.

At the end of your struggle for one year... A psycho VO will just deny everybody for useless reasons.

2 out of 100 persons get approval.

Be wise Nigerians.

Visa fee is now 157k on a 50/50 chance, less than 2 mins interview.

A friend with fully funded phD was wonderfully denied in Lagos embassy. He is married and has job in Nigeria yet was denied like a fo.ol

Another MSc lady with a First Class and full funding was denied in Abuja.

Thank to yahoo boys for doing shege to the Americans as well, yes it's a dog-eat dog- world.

Those VOs are bloody racist...

Down America.
Russia will overrule soon. Watch out

Gun violence country
LGBT useless country.

Congratulations in advance!
Please don't disclose that you child will be going to medical school during the interview because J2 visa holders are just like f2 in which they are not allowed to work but they can only go to language schools and volunteer. During your interview, you can say your son is just accompany you there for support three weeks and he will be coming back home to continue his studies.

These are my opinions. You can quote other gurus like bigiyanga
Laparoscopyguru:
Hello House,

Thanks to all the great info on this platform. I have pertinent questions to ask, and I am hoping to get suitable answers.

I first put my application for a J1 visa sometime in July/Aug. last year but had been unable to get any interviews until this year August. That means the initial DS160 applications i had filled since last year July for both I and my dependent is what is still in the systems. Do you think this still suffices given that I have had to get a new DS2019 and change of start dates? (I was to have started in August last year). Is it possible to fill a new DS 160 application for my interview.

Secondly my dependent is my 17-year-old son who will be interviewing with me. He will be getting into 200L med. (private uni. here) in sept (next session). He has already gotten admitted into pre-med in the US. Pls house, do you think we should be silent on this? since he is coming under a J2? what are the likely questions we should expect especially for him. Pls note that I have been on this visa issue since last year June/July when he just finished secondary school but because we couldn't get any interview dates till this year, he had to start uni here last year and has just completed his first year here.

Please I will appreciate any advice on what we are to expect, how to prepare and if I need to do a new DS160 for both of us.
