First of all I want to return all glory to God for everything, I want to tell you reading this that all powers belong to Jesus Christ, I have expirenced another miracle in my life today, put all your trust in God, he liveth and he can do all things, Prayer is the key, I have been praying since January till now about my interview I fasted throughout the past 3 months and my lovely mom backed me up as well. I got in to the embassy by 6:00AM when I got to the embassy I went somewhere and prayed I told God Abuja will favour me, I picked some sands after praying I dropped the sands. Me: Good morning ma'am, VO: Good morning, how are you doing, ma'am I'm pretty good. VO: which course are you going for? Me: funeral services and mortuary science. (She was shocked, I noticed her reaction and I told her my mother is mortuary , sorry my mother owns 3 mortuaries, and she makes use of old method, but I'm going to XYZ to learn a new method on the preservation of the corps, that each mortuaries contains 150- 200 coprs, at this point I was just talking rubbish fear catch this woman, she asked me so how did my mom embalm here in Nigeria? Me: once person dies I understand how the family feels she said No, like I should tell her how my mom do embalm. I told her if someone dies she will first of all give the dead body Injection and everything dries before she will now apply the embalming cream. I just keep quiet she was typing she asked what's the name of the mortuary I told her, I ask her ma'am did you need any other information she said No, No No, She was busy typing, Omo at this point I was looking at her hand, she carry pen wey dey on top of the blue papers my heart come fly, but I was very bold also demonstrating with my hands like sabinusš she moved her hands towards the white papers carry one give me, na so God run am for me š„ššš, within 2 minutes. Fortunately for us , we were given preference cuz of our 3 month old baby so everything happened so fast. The interview proper: Window(I canāt remember the number) White lady V.O: Good morning Me: Good morning VO: Pass me your documents Me: Here they are VO: Who is the applicant? Me: I maāam VO: Okay, how old are you? Me: xyz maāam VO: Why are you not going to French country to study French? Me: I choose US because of Prof Ireland research work that has my interest. Also while doing my research, I found out that US has top rated universities and thereās also opportunities of fundingā¦ cut in VO: what did you study during your high level degree? Me: I studied French at the university of Lagos where I graduated with a first class and as the best student in my department. VO: Ok, when did you graduate? Me: I graduated in 2020 and went for my Compulsory youth service at the Nigeria French language village where I was retained as an assistant lecturer. VO: Assistant lecturerā¦I quickly continued Yes and I teach French to both diploma and modules classes, Iām also in charge of organising debate, quiz, symposium to facilitate the learning of the language. VO cut in.. How did you get your funding? Me: after submitting a strong application, I did 2 interview with the school admission and myā¦VO cut in.. What are the questions asked during the interview? Me ( was already shockedš³ Shey this woman they wine me ni? Me: i was asked about what I was going to contribute to the department if given a GA ( I no no where that came from) VO: okay, so what did you say? Me: Haaa ( in my mind) I answered, with Prof research on Emancipation de la femme dans la literature africaine, thatās emancipation of women into African literature, I will be able to carry outā¦ā¦ā¦.I went blankš VO: okay, continue Iām typing it (at this point I didnāt know what to say so I started talking in the nonsense. The only thing I remember is I said opportunity š„²) I started panicking that I have messed up oo VO: So you said you got your funding by contacting your people? Me: No ooo (my people bawo) after submitting my application , I made further research to see if they need a GA, then I applied for it which I was later given. VO: So are u saying you donāt have any family in the US? Me: yes Ma. I dont VO: I see you have some deficits on your family funding, who will be covering that? Me: I didnāt hear that the first time, so I had to ask her to repeat herself. So I said my lovely husband here will be covering my deficits. VO to F2: what do you do? F2: I work as blah blahā¦ with annual income of 18-20M. VO to F1: okay, For how long have you been speaking French? Me: 4 years, and I also have a diploma in French. VO: okay what are your plans after studies. Me: upon successful completion of my program, I will returning to my home country to take a position a lecturer and I will continue impacting knowledge to younger scholars.
