And we have landed.......
My journey began from ph last Saturday which was a nightmare of a journey.Extended family of 6 - 3 adults and 3kids.We were scheduled to leave with 3.30pm flight to Lagos with airpeace and we got to the airport around 2pm only to be told then the flight has been moved to 6.10pm. I got angry and entered fight mode. There was a big scene.I was so angry because I came with my kids and I was wondering what I was going to do with them till then coupled with the fact that airpeace left my luggage alongside that of a number of other passengers in Lagos the previous week when I travelled with them to Owerri promising to deliver it the next morning but didn't.That one is story for another day sha.The flight didn't leave till 7pm. Because the flight has been delayed,I cancelled my accommodation booking. Baaddd decision. We were slated to travel with air Maroc on Sunday with the 6.10am flight and I figured by the time we land and finish with luggage formalities we will have only a few hours to check in and then wait it out.We landed and got our luggage around 9pm.A car was already waiting for us and we went to the international airport. I had already cargoed some of our luggage to Lagos because I didn't want to pay so much for the extra luggage as per local flight allowance and the plan was for hubby to pick up when we get to Lagos at the original slated time but we factored in externalities and had my cousin's name too as a recipient and when the flight was delayed we had him pick up the luggage and wait at international airport. He really tried cos he waited hours until we met up with him. We rented the big luggage trolley which accommodated all our stuff.I still had luggage allowance of about 40kg and the plan was for me to head to any nearby supermarket and buy things to make up as I wanted to fully utilize my allowance. On going inside, an immigration lady of about 60yrs old came to us like a hawk looking for chicks and asked what is inside the Ghana must go bags and we should bring it to quarantine. It was obvious she was looking for money. My temper was already short and I was pissed at her barnal attitude and I snapped at her and quarrel ensued again.no be small quarrel ooo. Her colleagues came out to support her asking that we settle and all but I was determined not to part with a naira of mine. I walked out and my husband and cousin plus the trolley guy was left talking with them.I devised a plan for us to get away completely from the airport since we had a lot of time till our flight.I started calling my husband but he didn't pick and I went back there and told him we have to go as our flight has been cancelled.I told him to stop talking with them but he didn't pay me a lot of attention. He came later to ask me if it is true but I told him my reason and he said he was already tired and didn't want to start looking for taxi and all and besides they told him if they check our stuff now,it wont be checked again.I told him I was off with the kids to a hotel as my first son was already complaining he was tired and sleepy and will be back later and he said fine.I forgot the state of our airports(no good waiting areas, air conditioning etc) when I cancelled my original hotel booking and opted to wait it out at the airport. It was on arrival that it dawned on me what a mistake I had made. Trying to get accommodation was also difficult and most hotels were fully booked. My husband called me asking where we were and I told him.We were still at the food court at the airport and he joined us and told me he later gave the customs people 2k.Imagine hovering around like a hawk and all you get is still 2k.mtchewww ndi iberibe. We finally got accommodation around 10.30pm and I left with my kids and mom and my husband stayed at the airport looking after our stuff. We planned to return around 4.30am after my husband must have gotten boarding passes for us.
We showered and I changed the kids in preparation for the morning flight. They wore thermal underwears and slept a bit.Around 2.30am my husband called saying the airline staff said we have to come down and we quickly got ready and called last night's taxi guy cos I already booked him for 4.30am and he showed up on time and we left for the airport. The airline staff were good and we weighed our stuff. Two pieces were about 24kg while about 6 were under the allowance with some as light as 12kg.These were the ones I wanted to add stuff to but couldn't so there were no hassles about luggage.
We went to the boarding area and pre boarding checks began shortly after. We were told one of our luggage needed to be rechecked as it was detected by the scanner. We were told they will call us when the are ready. We began boarding shortly after and my husband was asked to come for the luggage check. He told me they said he should settle them as there was no time to begin rechecking and he gave them 2k I think. We began the first leg of flight to Casablanca.Breakfast was served and it was regular airline stuff. They were happy to give whatever extras one needed. There was no in flight entertainment and the flight was 4.20hrs. We slept most of the flight though. We got to Casablanca and the layover was 7.30hrs. A man was talking to some people lying in a corner on the floor there was a lounge for travellers and they could get meal vouchers too if they were connecting another flight.I talked to him and he told me where to ask for the vouchers.I told my husband and he got the vouchers and we proceeded to have lunch. The restaurant staff only spoke French and it was wahala with a lot of people. My now very rusty french came in handy and surprisingly, they understood every single word I spoke. We then went to the air maroc lounge and got resting space.Travellers with a layover of 4-8 hrs can stay in the lounge till their flight time and you have to show your boarding pass at the reception. There was a play area for kids and the kids wanted to stay there but I wanted to sleep and I couldn't leave them without supervision so I didn't let them stay there. An hour to boarding,we started preparing to leave. There was nothing eventful and we soon departed for Montreal. The aircraft was a bigger one with in-flight entertainment. The announcements were only in Arabic and French. There was a lot of empty seats too and I made a mental note to retire to that area later for my sleep and told my mom to do same as soon as we take off cos on the flight to Casablanca, other passengers occupied an area I wanted her to sleep in.
The flight was good and meals were served.Regular airline stuff but again, extras were given whoever asked. Our flight arrived 15mins early and we went through the self service and made our declaration and then proceeded to border control.A lot of people were already waiting in the hall.I didn't know I was to take another number cos a number was on my declaration print out and the border officer who led us into the room didn't ask us to take a no.However I noticed the numbers displayed on the screen were in another format but I didn't think much of it.After a while of seeing people going to the screen, I got curious and just then my husband also said same. I went and saw I needed to take a number there and I did. It happened that 7 people we arrived before had to go before us.We were now the last.My kids were all asleep on the chairs and my daughter fell but thank God I saw her falling and broke the fall though she still got to the ground. She went back right to sleep.
During the wait,I became very frazzled because we all couldn't connect to the wifi and I needed to contact our family friend picking us up especially when it was almost 10pm. Our flight was slated to arrive at 8pm and during our discussions, we said we would be through with immigration around 10pm give or take so when it 10pm, I became so worried. I am not known for my patience and I was thinking what if he waits and leaves, what do we do as we have not made any other arrangements.I was thinking he might even be angry we have not made efforts to contact him but before the clock hit 10, I have gone out of the hall twice to wait on the hallway to see if I can borrow a phone to call. The area was not the ideal place as it was just where people are on the move and hard to stop someone to ask for such favours.I talked to a woman who couldn't help.In the waiting hall,I also talked to a lot of others who couldn't connect
Only a lady with iPhone connected. My husband also tried, went out numerous times with no luck.one border officer had no cell phone but took him to where a phone was but it wasn't working. He told him to ask the people who will attend to us. My no finally showed on the screen but it was just displaying without saying which desk to go to as it has been doing.I decided to be a little patient.after 5 mins, nothing and my mom suggested we go and ask but I said I don't want them to think we r being impatient. After a while,my husband went to talk to one of the staff who said we have to be patient and just then one of them called us.I went to him and he said he has been calling the number for over 10mins which wasn't true and I said no I have been waiting to be called upon.To add salt to injury,he said it's fine maybe I was taking a nap.OMG,i just got tired and didn't even bother to say anything to him.How could I be napping when I have been waiting since my no was displayed to be called upon. I asked him if I can make a call and he asked if I didn't have a mobile.I told him I do but I don't have reception and can't connect to the Wi-Fi and he said sorry. My husband then left to the baggage area to see if he can get someone to help to make the call.We were finished shortly after our own copy of copr was given to us. I had the officer change the passport photos with the one we took last week because the one on the copr was already 5 months old and I didn't want them to return it for the pr card and we headed out to meet up with my husband. We saw him and he told us he got someone to help and called numerous times but our host didn't pick and he left a message. We were resigned and said oh well,at least we have the address we can get a taxi and head there or get a hotel to pass the night. We got to arrivals and showed our declaration and passed through. Our bags wasn't checked.Just after passing, one of the border guys called us back and I was like here goes my luck, maybe they check my bags and bin the dry fish for our host.In my declaration,i had 5 people cos 5 was the maximum on the screen and my mom did her declaration differently. The guy who checked my documents signed my declaration. So it happened that we had 12bags instead of 10 for 5 people and that was why we were called back. The guy now took my mum to where her receipt was signed and he collected it and accompanied her back. While my mom was gone, I looked and saw my host and we were all so happy.Because I told him we had 12 bags,he came with two Canadians who volunteered to accompany him and brought their cars. I asked how long they have been waiting and they said about one hour and I felt better that they haven't been waiting as long as I thought. We came outside and were greeted by an icy blast. They said we are lucky as the weather was better than the previous days and I was like oh my. My daughter cried saying she was cold even though she was decked out but without gloves.I told her to put her hands in her jacket pockets as per @einsteino's tips. They loaded our bags and we were homewards bound. There was a little snowing on the way back home.
Yesterday we ran some errands, got our SIN, account opening etc.still a lot to be done.looking for house, school for the kids etc but we are taking it one step at a time. The kids want to go outside to play but I haven't let them yet because I need to get the right gear before they can play in the snow.
The cold is really dealing with hubby.
All in all,I am happy we are finally here.

forgot to mention, iqas does not accept fax anymore.i used hellofax.a friend's faxed doc was rejected recently.they will send you an email soon OK.I did not contact them because I already knew about the delay so I waited patiently. Like I said,my transcript took a month to be acknowledged.
How sure are you about Iqas not accepting faxed docs cos I know someone who faxed docs to them only Sunday and they have acknowledged receipt of the application.Did their email to your friend say they no longer accept faxed docs? Could the application have been rejected for other reasons?
I ask to ensure that we don't peddle news we are not so sure of cos this thread is known for credible information in order that it remains that way.People might post things they are unsure of but they usually retract the untrue information. If you are sure, cool.Otherwise do a little digging and find out the true situation.

During the wait for copr,i clocked six months in new country.i thought I was going to be asked but I wasn't.
Seems like after ppr they don't require anything anymore but it's still a hypothesis.

COPR received.
First ppr letter -july 16th.
We r a family of 5 and I live away from my family at the moment and I assumed that since we were submitting via vfs,one can submit at any vfs office i.e,I can submit at the closest vfs in my city of abode and they can do same.I left Nigeria a few days after submitting my application and months later,I updated my address letting them know I was the only applicatant living at said address while others were still resident at original home country address.
When the letter came,it bore my new address and I was about going ahead to do as I thought and I thought to contact them first. A new ppr letter was sent on 19th July asking us all to submit in Sydney and giving us 30 days now instead if the original 15 days or so.Passports were couriered down to me.I had everyone's passport photos with me when I Left Nigeria and I took them to the VAC centre. It was measured and rejected as it measured above specifications.Meanwhile I battled back and forth and spent good time at the photo studio back home measuring dimensions but alas,it was still above dimensions and only passports were couriered to me.
I took a new photo here and asked my family to do same and they went to studio 24 and also spent considerable time getting it right. Before going to studio 24,they had a photographer come home to take pics and send to me as I was taking mine so they can edit and print alongside mine but the pics the photographer was sending to us was useless I think due to the focus. They resigned and went to studio 24 which was quite a hassle as hubby had to leave work to take the kids. I asked them to send the new soft copy for me to try to print to save courier time and money and it was sent. The lady who took my own passport was quite very patient and really tried to make something out of the first set of photos the photographer took at home and I was impressed cos she was a very young white girl maybe in her late teens and most girls that age won't have that patience.I went back the next day with the new studio 24 soft copy and the lady on duty tried to print but said the pics wouldn't rotate and won't fit specs.I resigned and decided to ask them to courier the hard copies.I was to be at work at 12 and I had about 2 hours before work.I decided to go to work and stay in the car till work resumes.
As I was leaving,I had a second thought and decided to try Auspost cos it was where I wanted to take my own pics originally before I went to officeworks.
It was only a few mins drive away and I went.On getting there,I told the middle aged man I wanted to print photos and he said they don't print.Another colleague of his asked me to show him and I did and he said they do.At this stage I was skeptical of success but sent him one of them.He spent considerable time inside and came out with one which was just right.
I was elated and sent him the remaining ones and viola,we had the photos.
Moral:Do not give up until you exhaust all available options.
I went to work and at work,i thought to play hooky and go submit the passports.I talked to my colleague who was quite hesitant but I gave her an alibi in case someone shows up and asks of me.
I left to submit but my own photos were just 31mm and the lady said it was around 30.5 and 31mm.I wasn't ready to go back and forth again and we agreed she transmit them and if the embassy thinks otherwise,I would get another set.
I was told it takes 3days to 3months to be ready but I was sure it would fall closer to the 3day mark than further. Passports were submitted on 26th July.We had already made prelim plans to land in September on receiving the ppr.I was tracking daily and it was still at the visa office. After a week,I called VAC telling them I thought it was 3 days and they reiterated it was 3days to 3months.After another week I called VAc telling them I was travelling urgently and needed my passports. They asked me to write to the embassy to withdraw my passport and when I return,I can transmit it again to them.I laughed in my mind and said e no work ooo.
My hubby already attended a planning for Canada session and was to start pre-arrival programs but they wrote him saying until he gets a visa/copr in his name,he can't commence. This is after they had been given the ppr letter. He forwarded me the mail and I wrote to the embassy telling them I am planning to land in September and would love to obtain pre-arrival services to enable us settle in quickly and I attached the mail asking for visa before we can commence. The generic response indicating mail has been transmitted was received and I got a response about 9 days letter saying they received my package on the 27th July and see no issues in my receiving my passports in September and travelling same month.I took that to mean it will be ready by September. On the 23rd of august,I got a call from VAc to pick up passports and I picked them on 24th.I saw my passport was stamped in London while my dependents' were in Sydney.
One day, I will order gcms notes to understand what went down.
September landing date won't work anymore as more time is needed to plan.
I have read from folks on here living away from family wondering what will happen at passport request and my advise is update your address,if the letter comes you can always seek clarification and in such cases, indicate urgent on the subject to ensure the mail is given a priority. One person leaving for work to another country was wondering the right time to commence and I can only say now is always the right time.It is possible application will be finalized before you finally leave.Address can always be updated and letting them know address of other applicants is a good one too.Remember it is a requirement to notify cic of any address change.

This is a loaded post that should have been spread out. To begin with I hate Quebec/French so my opinions will be very bias. Don't come to Gatineau to tune your French, you better know your French or you can get frustrated or annoyed. Since your studies will most likely be in English (I'm assuming) you'll be going to a University in Ottawa. Either Ottawa U or Carleton U. Your husband who I'm assuming can't speak French, will most likely get a job and be working on the Ottawa side. Since all your business will be on the Ontario side, why do you want to go to the Quebec side ? Ottawa is a small city so commute time isn't a big issue (with a car) regardless of where you live. If you want to live in the suburbs, there are a few nice suburbs in Ottawa with decent rent and house prices for when you're ready to buy. Google Orleans, Kanata and Barhaven, all nice little suburbs in Ottawa. Kanata is too far for me though.

Living on the Quebec side while working in Ottawa you'd have to adjust your taxes come tax season so you don't get double taxed. I know the city of Ottawa and Gatineau has a merging bus service for the downtown core in Ottawa due to a lot of government workers. But if you live in Quebec and have business in the west end of Ottawa, do they have a merging bus service ? Would you have to buy a bus pass for Ottawa and Gatineau ? I don't know. If you decide to take some sort of student loan which is administered by the provincial government, you'd probably have to take one through the Quebec government. But going to school in Ontario would you be considered an out of province student ? You see how things can start to get a little complicated living outside the province ? Though these issues can be negated, but why even have them ? Ottawa is still a very French/bilingual city with a few French schools. Even English schools have advance French classes. You and the kids can learn French on the Ontario side if you want, no need to head to Quebec. My 2 cents.
A million thanks for your very informative response.I can see how things can get complicated especially for a jjc lol.I will look at these areas u suggested.

Hello @40manlappy, did u finally settle in Gattineau? I am expecting copr and hoping to land in September with my family of 5.I am looking at settling in Gattineau because it is ranked high on the places to live and close to Ottawa.I also love the bilingualism and see it as an opportunity to fine-tune my French.I have a Delf B2 in French but my skills have gone rusty as I had no one to talk with when I finished my French studies.
Anyone else with info on the area can also enlighten me.I am also open to other regions just that for now Gattineau is the first choice but it is not cast in stone.
Hubby works in the bank back home and I was in Hr/admin until I commenced master of research studies last year.I will do a short landing, finish my program around July 2019 and return finally to join my family in Canada.I have been in contact with some schools in Canada about transferring my studies but they responded I will apply to start afresh and some of the coursework component might be waived for me.Because of the hassles,i have decided to finish my current program and then commence PhD studies next year in Canada.
Given that I want a new career in research/academia,I want a suburb that has an easy commute to place of work for hubby(no job yet though but we think it might be in Ontario) and I when I commence studies/work though I have not gotten a school yet but my research shows most of the unis are in Ontario too.
Thanks for the anticipated responses.

Congratulations. I thank God for you.

I needed to please ask how long it took IQAS to evaluate your credentials and got back to you.

I can’t use WES also because they do not accept the institution where I did my HND even though I have a BSc. (1year top up)

I’m trying to gather as much information and help to aid me on my application.

Many thanks

Their turnaround time then was about 12 weeks after receiving all the credentials and transcripts. It took about that.Their website will have the current info.

The full story.
I did my ielts in October 2017 with LRWS 8.5,8.5,7.5,7.5.
I evaluated only my MBA from Uniport with Iqas because I did not want to pay the school 100usd for Wes verification.I was already annoyed at having to cough out about 50k for the transcript itself.
I created a profile and entered the pool same month with a score of 434 hoping that scores come down like in early 2017.I applied with accompanying spouse. When after a couple of draws and no luck,I spoke with hubby about writing Ielts and he willingly accepted but wouldn't prepare.I needed to get the ITA and submit my application as soon as possible from Nigeria cos I was leaving soon for my research and I wanted to get done with it and face other stuff. He did his exam in January 2018.I can't remember his exact scores but he didn't do so well as per maxing out but he was able to add 12 points to my score and I was at 446.We didn't need to evaluate his credentials because I knew that ielts alone would boost crs scores going by the trend.
I started gathering docs and getting ready for the next draw but I couldn't get employment letter in Cic format or any format from my last employment. My boss blatantly refused without a good reason.i had my employment letter and disengagement letter and a few other corresponces my name was on during my stint with the firm.Salary was also paid into bank account with company name.I did an affidavit outliningy duties.I also got a former colleague to attest for me citing my roles and he did.I ran with these docs, highlighted my salary credits and also got salary schedule from my contact in the firm where my name was on.I also did a letter of explanation stating I was unable to get reference letter in their format
Pof was two treasury bills which I used without any other letter neither did I include bank statements.
We did our medicals at Prime hospitals in Ph.
Hubby's work experience was outlined in personal history.
Aor was Feb 14th.
Medicals passed was noticed on Feb 23
Ip2 was on the mass movement of Feb 27
I also thought like others that ppr was very close. I made enquiries on my application office and it was LVO.I knew I had to take a chill pill and sit back.
In April,i ordered gcms notes of about 190 pages and everything was fine.Even my employment record that gave me stress was noted as "letter appears to confirm employment".
However, at the beginning of July,I decided to inform LVO of my change in address and informing them my dependents were still in Nigeria for them to take note of when asking us to send our passports.I also decided to inform them of a peculiar problem my family face and my desire for us all to leave soon and not face the problem again this year.I also attached evidence. When I was writing them,i informed my hubby and he wasn't so sure I should tell them because it might seem like we are running away or something.I told him we are economic migrants and economic migrants are running to a better life, so they already know most people are desperate to leave. He said OK.I was convinced to tell them because I understand how they work and what I was telling them was verifiable truth and is reason enough to make them look into my application and make a decisuon.
I got a mail a few days later acknowledging my change in address and stating my application was awaiting review. On the 11th of July, I got adr for rprf, hubby's proof of employment even though it was in personal history but una sabi LVO things nahhh, provenance if funds in investment account and account statements dating back one year, and what my research is on and when I left the country.
I sought help here after having problems making the payment which was rendered by you sweet souls.I made the payment and supplied the needed info.
For provenance, I only supplied the one year statements and explained I had collapsed my TBs on maturity and invested into fixed deposits as it had a higher interest rate then.i also supplied the fixed deposit certs.I supplied these on the 13th if July.My research is also related to the problem I told them about which I don't want to share here and I believe that convinced them further even though I had already supplied evidence.
I was about going to bed with a headache and my sister on the bed with me was snoring frustrating my efforts to sleep and I asked her to change position in order to stop snoring.I picked up my phone to check the time and I had a mail from Cic.I knew it was ppr but one mind was skeptical saying let it not be another adr or something and I managed to log in and it was the LETTER.
I informed my family and told u guys.I was to go back to sleep but my sister encouraged me to finish reading and managed to finish reading it.Guven that we are now submitting via VACs,i will simply submit at the vac here while my family will submit theirs at home.
I encourage all of us not to despair no matter the obstacles as most obstacles are surmountable.
I will submit my passport within the week and update you on how that goes.Good luck to us all and excuse any typos.I am rushing to type this and leave as I am already running late and I don't want to keep those awaiting the gist in Limbo.
