Look at how bastards born from a thousand fathers were insulting the Igbo race here. And it finally turns out the op and others who cited similarities were very correct.
Igbo hate is a big problem in Nigeria and I one day hope to return this favour to the other tribes in full measure. |

Jones4190: According to a 19th-century legend, the Truth and the Lie meet one day. The Lie says to the Truth: "It's a marvelous day today"! The Truth looks up to the skies and sighs, for the day was really beautiful. They spend a lot of time together, ultimately arriving beside a well. The Lie tells the Truth: "The water is very nice, let's take a bath together!" The Truth, once again suspicious, tests the water and discovers that it indeed is very nice. They UnCloth and start bathing. Suddenly, the Lie comes out of the water, puts on the clothes of the Truth and runs away. The furious Truth comes out of the well and runs everywhere to find the Lie and to get her clothes back. The World, seeing the Truth naked, turns its gaze away, with contempt and rage. The poor Truth returns to the well and disappears forever, hiding therein its shame. Since then, the Lie travels around the world, dressed as the Truth, satisfying the needs of society, because, the World, in any case, harbors no wish at all to meet the naked Truth. Deep! |

EmekaA125: Shut up. Igbo has been a dominant and second largest tribe in Nigeria. It wasn't a coincidence that Igbos in SS and Middlebelt still promote their cultural ties with Igbos. Ohanaeze and IPOB MUST reach out to Ogbona and other Igbo subgroups in Edo State. Looking at their attire and the New Yam Festival, Igbo is written all over them. Second wetin. Igbo are the most populous ethnic group in Nigeria. |
Culture › Re: Indigenous Ogbona People In Edo State Celebrate New Yam Festival "Esi" by SlayerForever: 7:46am On Aug 09, 2021 |
EmekaA125: U lied. Ogbona people are Igbo. They may not be speaking Igbo language due their forceful creation into Edo State but their root and ancestral heritage is Igbo.
Igbo ebuka(Igbo is large and big), stretching to SS and Middle-belt. Despite their dressing they may not be Igbo. At the most they will have some Igbo connection in their history. But today they can't be called Igbos because the Igbo connection is now almost non existent. |

Fejoku: The red cap is the same as ours but that cloth is a general cloth among majority of central southern Nigeria. Those people are not Igbo. Just go to google earth with that name and see where they are located. We don't share any border with them and their location in northern Edo is replete with many different languages. I've been listening to their highlife music and I must say that they make good music. Very similar to ours. If they are in anyway related to us I would have indicated it here. The cloth may be general. May. But the cap, beads and the yam festival...hmm. |

Culture › Re: Indigenous Ogbona People In Edo State Celebrate New Yam Festival "Esi" by SlayerForever: 3:29pm On Aug 08, 2021 |
Fejoku: Igue festival is not New Yam festival. They are two different things. Igue from my findings is a festival for the celebration of a New Year. It is the equivalent of the Igbo Igu-aro festival. The difference is that while the Edo attach a lot of prominence to Igue, only the Umueri clan of Igbos give similar regard to Igu-Aro. The most prominent among all Igbo clans is the New Yam festival called Iri-ji, Iwa-ji or Ikeji. Other notable names for the festival is Ifejioku/ihejioku. This festival is specifically about Yam. This festival of the Ogbona people is not Igue. It is purely a Yam affair. The pictures are very clear. In all your Igue festival, there's no celebration of Yam. That dressing is undeniably Igbo. However they may not be Igbo. |

There things make one ethnicity practice some cultural aspects of another ethnicity :
1) Part ancestry and 2) Culture absorption due to proximity. 3) Cultural Imposition through colonization/domination.
Proximity doesn't seem to be the case here as the clan is quite distant from any Igbo clan. Imposition is non existent in Igbo history (Ikwerre deniers who use this excuse are fools).
It would be, there is some Igbo ancestry. However, the Igbo traces surviving may be too little to identify it to Igbo anymore. That may be the case here. |
