By AMADI OGBONNA, Entertainment Editor & BENJAMIN NJOKU Maverick musician, Charly Boy has been blowing hot following the publications last week by two national newspapers, (not Vanguard) which reported that he is gay and a member of the illuminati, a secret cult. Reacting to the publications, which he said has cost him ‘great hurt anddistress’, in a telephone interview with WG, the areafather said “it’s absurd” for anyone to think he’s gay and a member of a cult all because he’s trying to be himself. He is threatening to seek redress in court. According to him, “‘I’m not concerned about name calling, but the way and manner in which we apply professionalism in whatever we are doing. If I’m gay, I will fight for the right of homosexuals. I am not gay and I am not part of any organisation called the illuminati in any way, shape or form. I have never had problems with whatever the press writes about me. But these publications have gone beyond the boundaries.” The eccentric entertainer however expressed dismay, following the embarrassment the negative reports has brought to his personality as well as the accusation that he uses his wife only as a camouflage for his illicit affairs with men like him. For Christ sake, he continues, “I’ve been married for many years. My wife and I have a good relationship with our children and we even have grand children. So, how could anybody think such a thing about me!” Also frowning at the accusation in respect of why he is fond of applying make-up and lipstick on his face like that of a woman, including the bling-blings all over his face, nose, neck, fingers and body, Charly Boy explained that make-up and blings have been an integral part of theCharly Boy brand, which he created about twenty yearsago.” “I don’t see anything new about my make-up and jewelries. It’s been like that for the past twenty years! Everything is part of my publicity stunt!” Concerning the inciting photo he took with popularOAP, Denrele Edun, where they both kissed and curdled each other closely, Charly said ‘it’s all part of my publicity stunt.’ http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/06/its-absurd-to-think-im-gay-charly-boy/

LAGOS — History willbe made tomorrow when President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan commissions the first locally made warship, NNS ANDONI, constructedby Nigerian Navy engineers. The commissioning ceremony will take place at the Nigerian Naval Dockyard, Victoria Island, Lagos. The 31m Nigerian Navy Seaward Defence Boat (SDB) was conceived as a research and development projectby Vice Admiral GTA Adekeye and Rear Admiral GJ Jonah who were then Chiefof the Naval Staff and Chief of Naval Engineering respectively. The vessel, which was to be designed and built locally, was patterned afterthe river town classpatrol craft in the Nigerian Navy whichinclude NNS YOLA and NNS BRASS, albeit with several modifications as decided by the design team. The keel of the SDB was laid at the Nigerian Naval Dockyard by the then Chief of the Naval Staff in December 2007 while full construction commenced in January 2008. Between January 2008 and April 2009, the structuralframes and shell plating of the hull and superstructure were completed while the main propulsion and power generation plants were delivered. Thereafter, the project was suspended due to funding delays until the incumbent Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral OS Ibrahim revived the project by approving funds forits completion. This is in furtherance to the remark by the president at the commissioning of NNPC/MPN Satellite Field Development Project Platforms in Lagos on 17 March 2012 when he said: “Our government will continue to support genuine efforts to uplift the country’s economy through Nigerian Content Development and wewill continue to encourage the investors to encourage the development of localcontent.” The vessel was successfully completed through tenacity, ingenious innovation as well as sincere and focussed leadership, despite the previously highlighted challenges. It is expected that this leap forward in capacity at the Nigerian Naval Dockyard would herald a future of sustained research and development in the Nigerian Navy towards achieving national transformation. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/jonathan-commissions-first-locally-made-warship-tomorrow/

Bedridden Nollywood actor, Enebeli Elebuwa was full of “praises and thanks” to Almighty God during the week as he has received his healing, courtesy of a Lagos based controversial preacher, Dr Sign Fireman. The actor was struck by stroke late last year. Since then, his health has continued to deteriorate on each passing day. He was reportedly bedridden for months before he finally received healing from the “firebrand pastor”. Fireman who came into prominence through the showbiz personalities that attend his church located in Surulere, was said to have been moved by the status of the ailing actor. He instructed his family to relocate the actor to the church where he (Fireman) prayed before Enebeli was healed of his life-threatening ailment. A video posted on Youtube showed thehigh flying pastor taking steps with the actor, who looked physically drained and weak, after the healing. Fireman could be heard asking Enebeli to walk and take “one step at a time … in the name of Jesus,” which, in the midst of clapping and shouting by the congregation, he strenuously adhered to. Fireman happens to be one of the influential men of God in the country. His extravagance and extremely flashy lifestyle was brought to questioning by CAN recently. “Jesus Christ was never a poor man. He had an accountant following him around” he was quoted as saying. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/lagos-preacher-heals-bedridden-nollywood-actor/

BERLIN (AFP) – Police arrested an armed 14-year-old boy Tuesday after he opened fire with at least one weapon at his school insouthern Germany, authorities said. The teenager, who was not immediately named, allegedly fired at least one shot at his school, then fired several more times after he was tracked down to a sports field in the Bavarian town of Memmingen near Munich. Following a tense standoff with police, he surrendered to officers, a police spokesman told the Germannews agency DPA. No one was injured and he was taken for psychological evaluation. Police said the shots fired atthe sports field were not deliberately aimed at them, and at one point the boy reportedly threatened to take his own life. Media reports also said he may have been involved in a dispute with a fellow pupil or a former girlfriend. An online news channel, n-tv, said the weapons belonged to the boy’s father. The boy had earlier chargedinto his school with two weapons, firing at least oneshot before fleeing. No one was injured in this incident either, police said. After the alarm was raised, all 280 pupils were told via loudspeaker to remain in their classrooms while teachers closed off the rooms. Police special units rushed to the school and, after a search, pupils were led outside, the spokesman said. All pupils were returned to their parents safe and sound. On March 11, 2009, a masked 17-year-old named Tim Kretschmer burst into his former school and picked off nine fellow pupils and three teachers, mostly with expert execution-style shots to thehead. A further three people lost their lives in a dramatic chase and shootout with police before Kretschmer, cornered, turned the gun onhimself. It was the worst school shooting in Germany since April 2002, when 19-year-old Robert Steinhaeuser, a disgruntled student from Erfurt in eastern Germany who had been expelled, killed 16 people and then himself. After the massacre in Winnenden, schools put into place special drills to prevent such incidents occurring again. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/14-year-old-boy-in-gun-duel-with-police/ |

Abakaliki—Four persons were injured early on Sunday morning at the Amike-Aba area of Abakaliki following a clash between a local vigilance group and jubilant fans of Chelsea FC of England. The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports that the fans werecelebrating Chelsea’s first-ever Union of European Football Association, UEFA, Champions League victory over Bayern Munich FC of Germany. Chelsea achieved this feat through an epic 4-3 penalty shootout victory, which Chelsea recorded over the hard-fighting Bayern Munich. The two teams had battled to a 1-1 draw during regulation time. NAN reports that the clash between the vigilance group and the Chelsea fans occurred around 12.15 a.m. on Sunday, as the fans celebrated in an unrestrained manner, which attracted the attention of the former. The vigilance group urged the fans to be moderate in their celebration, an advice that did not go down well with the fans. The situation led to a verbal confrontation and eventually resulted in a fracas after a fan that had lost control of his motorcycle almost ran into the vigilance personnel. The officers escaped unhurt as they saw the motorcyclist on time. Following the fracas the vigilance personnel arrested some of the fans while the others escaped from the scene of the clash. Contacted over the incident, Mr. Ephraim Ajali, an official of the vigilance group, said those were arrested released after intervention by their parents and other residents of the area. “Luckily for the boys, they were not among the notorious ones who disrupted the peace of thearea as we discovered that the yacted under the influence of alcohol which they had consumed recklessly. “Their parents signed an undertaking to offset the medical bill of our wounded officer and a pledge that the boys would be of good behaviour henceforth. “We are now aware of the security threats posed by celebrations of European football matches and will be more prepared to deal with such a development in future,” he said. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/four-wounded-as-vigilance-group-chelsea-supporters-clash-in-abakaliki/ |

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) suffers from selective amnesia by its claim that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN), endorsed Goodluck Jonathan’spresidential win as free and fair. Reacting to Olisa Metuh, the PDP national publicity secretary’s claim that Tinubu endorsed President Jonathan’s election at a lecture he gaveat Chatham House, London, Sunday Dare, Tinubu’s special adviser on Media, accused the PDP of wilful mischief, as Tinubu’s statement was “deliberately” quoted out of context. Mr. Metuh was reacting to the ACN support for Gen. Buhari’s warning that dire consequences awaited the polity if elections were rigged in 2015. But putting the records straight, Dare insisted that though Tinubu said he thought Jonathanwon the election, histally was exaggerated, thus casting a slur on the integrity of his victory. Hear Tinubu, from the Chatham House speech, on 18 July 2011: “I believe Jonathan won the election but that thereturns attributed to him in some partsof the country obviously appearedexaggerated. Thus, celebrating the election as free and fair might lead to INEC beating its chest and might short-circuit the process of fundamental electoral reform. Wemust not relent in our struggle for fundamental reforms.” In that same speech, Asiwaju Tinubu had warned about the danger ofdraping the 2011 elections in qualitiesthey did not deserve, adding that such false hopecould come back to haunt Nigeria, if future elections were not improved upon, saying that by then, the damagemight even be beyond the judiciaryto fix. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/buhari-pdp-suffers-from-selective-amnesia-says-tinubu/ |

ABUJA —THE Arewa Youth Forum yesterday slammed the former Military Head of State and 2011 Presidential candidate of Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, General Muhammadu Buhariover his prediction of a bloody revolution if 2015 election is rigged. The youths in a statement described General Buhari’s outbursts as misguided, treasonable and uncalled for. According to the group, Nigerians must ensure that the prediction of General Buhari of imminent bloodletting does not see the light of the day as such will not only bring disunity, but has the tendency of producing numerous widows and orphans. In a statement signed by the group’s President, Abdulkareem Tijani, the group while calling on Nigerians to shun Buhari’s call for violence and embrace peace and unity, said, ‘’Buhari’s recent statement that in 2015, violence that will follow theelection will make the 2011 violence a child’s play, is uncalled for, misguided and treasonable. “Buhari by the statement he made before the electionin 2011 precipitated the violence that followed the 2011 presidential election and till now Nigeria has not recovered from the same. ‘’We call on all Nigerians irrespective of their states and religious back ground to see Buhari for what he truly is.. We hereby call on Nigerians to shun Buhari’s call for violence and embrace peace and unity.” Also yesterday, the NationalCouncil for Peace and Unity stressed the need for leaders to control their anger and sentiments at all times especially at difficult periods like what Nigeria is going through at the moment. The group in a statement signed by its Chairman and former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Engr. Muhammed Abba-Gana, said that there was the need for Nigerians to put heads together to ensure speedy and happy resolution of all crises particularly that of insecurity so that we move on to bring progress and prosperity to our people. According to Abba-Gana, the National Council for Peace and Unity will be setting up a peace and security committee that willbe holding public hearings in major geographical zonesin Nigeria starting with Lagos. According to the statement,“Instead of Nigerians to vent their anger on the pages of newspapers or on fellow Nigerians, the committee shall provide a platform where people can discuss their grievances andit shall be documented. Nigerians are tired of losingtheir friends and loved onesas a result of violence. The number of orphans and widows in the northern part of Nigeria is on the increase. We must say no todisunity.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/buharis-statement-treasonable-arewa-youths/

ADO-EKITI – CATHOLIC Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, MostRev. Felix Ajakaye, has challenged President Goodluck Jonathan to call the former Head of State, General Mohammadu Buhari(rtd), who recently threatened that the countrywould be bloody if the 2015 election was rigged, to order. Ajakaye argued that the statement credited to the former Head of State was provocative and unguided and must be checked, noting that the former Head of State was in the habit of threatening the nation as he similarly threatened the nation that he would make governmentungovernable for the president if the election of 2011 was rigged. Speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, he said” “Nigeria belongs to all of us, we have no other place to go and we should watch our utterances, no matter our status. ”We are in a very trying time and we need to be prayerful and work our prayers; we need to be positive and concrete in ourthoughts and work our thoughts. ”The former Head of State ought to have been invited by security agencies for questioning if we are in other climes. I don’t know what our security agents are still waiting for. No matter whose ox is gored, if another person had madesuch a statement, they will say he is planning something against the country. “But, for making such a statement I will say that seems to be his character and we should not allow him and others to be sayingthat anymore, the laws are there. It was the same Buhari who said he was going to make the country ungovernable if the elections were rigged in 2011. But, again, it is because of the governmentwe have, if we have a government that is very decisive, we would not be having such negative and destructive utterances frompeople. ”If a leader is decisive, something will have to be done, so that a leader is not decisive now they are trading words; we should not allow Buhari to ruin Nigeria because he wants to rule at all cost.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/05/call-buhari-to-order-cleric-tells-jonathan/ |
