gidgiddy: There's another angle to this which I don't see people talking about much
In 2019, Reno was full of praises for Peter Obi, who was then running as vice to Atiku. Today, Reno thinks Peter Obi is the worst thing ever, and claims he 'packaged' Obi for the 2019 race
In 2023, Reno said that Tinubu was the worst thing ever. He is now full of praises for Tinubu.
Can't people see he is only packaging Tinubu for 2027?
Reno's job is that of a 'packager'. Depending on what direction the political wind is blowing, he will package the devil as a Saint, and a saint as the devil
The man is telling the whole world that his job is to deceive people. Such a man should never be taking seriously Or simply, he is a political brand consultant doing his job like any other. |

Who and who has he consulted for before now that you know of? Just admit you're a neophyte in political matters I still repeat for the sake of emphasis. If anyone thinks Atiku Abubakar, former VP will consult with Reno on who should be his VP, such individual has no business making comments on Nigerian politics. His role should be limited to reading and nodding If your premise is that Reno is and was a political nobody, then we have nothing to debate any further. If a lawyer who has served as special adviser to a sitting president is not qualified to advise on politics, then I wonder who is in your world. Forgetting that your champion once took advice from one he claimed was mad and then disparaging an actual professional in this field is foul work but okay, do you. |

That's who you think has enough clout to nominate a VP. Are you joking or you're trolling? Even Abati his boss does not have enough clout to nominate a VP not to mention Reno. Heck... even Femi Adesina does not! You simply don't know what you're typing So if I ask you your opinion on whether my girlfriend would make a good wife, that means you have nominated a wife for me? DeepSight: You are very funny. I am tempted to conclude you either don't know anything about Nigeria and its politicians or you simply don't know the dramatis personae you are discussing.
There is no way in heaven or hell that Atiku will need Reno's intervention in choosing a VP, except in clerical or administrative processes.
You asked why he will need the CV at all. Another funny question. They will need to build a profile for the campaign, for websites, for different things.
Please please please and please stop pushing this line of thinking you have no idea how it makes you appear.
Besides, as I mentioned, Atiku has already said how he chose Obi, and that it was on recommendation of OBJ after cancelling out Okonjo Iweala and Adesina because they were not members of the PDP. 1st bolded: Never said that he Needs Reno's intervention and I dont see how you arrived at that false conclusion but you did so on your own sir. I was not involved. This is a strawman argument. But that Atiku had Reno as an adviser is a fact that speaks for itself. 2nd bolded: so the CV was no longer received as part of his job application as you previously suggested? I didn't ask why they need his CV at all, I asked why he would need to consider his CV before employing him. You keep repeating these strawman arguments. 3rd bolded. Atiku could have chosen Obi on the recommendation of Obj while Obi still could asked Reno to help prior to this. I don't get why these two things cannot be true to you. |

DeepSight: Please stop saying things that are completely false. Where in the email does it show that PO asked Reno to help convince AA? Where did I say it shows so? I said the email supports it without being conclusive. It supports it in the sense that we can infer that there is clearly a relationship between the two men where Omokri has supported Obi in some way. That gives credence Ona preliminary basis, to the idea that Obi could have asked Reno for help. And it is inconclusive, as I clearly said, because the email doesn't show that Obi asked for help with this particular desire to be made VP candidate. On the balance of probabilities, I conclude Reno's story liklier to be true. |

Kukutente23: You are making comments based on the strenght of your limited experience There's no evidence in the public space to show that Atiku sought Reno's opinion on who should be his VP The "evidence" released by Reno himself only shows that Atiku asked Obi to submit his CV to Reno for onward pushing to him Again, and I say this with full confidence. Anyone who believes an Atiku will consult with a Reno of all people in PDP in 2019 for who to pick as his VP has no business engaging in this section Imagine Daniel Bwala telling you that he helped Tinubu pick his 2027 VP candidate. Will you believe that? Oga you are turning the issue on it's head. Whether Reno was qualified or not to advise is one issue. Of which you are saying someone who had already been a presidential spokesperson for GEJ was not qualified to be consulted on the choice of VP candidate. That's ludicrous and you should know it. This is a job a mere political consultant of no name or repute can easily do. One does not need to be a major political candidate themselves to simply offer advise. Secondly I did not say Atiku consulted Reno. What Reno says here is that Peter Obi asked him to convince Atiku and the little evidence Reno has shared here supports this without being conclusive. Doesn't mean Atiku consulted Reno, means Obi asked Reno to offer advice in his favour. Is the difference clear? It's all so simple. |

The above showed clearly how you’ve continuously contradicted yourself. On one hand you try to convince readers that Reno was in charge and on the other hand you said the above. That’s truly funny.
I am shell shocked that you asked if the job of the VP requires the candidate to submit an application. That’s a very embarrassing comment to make, coming from a young Nigerian like you. So you expect the Presidential candidate and his Vice to submit which documents to INEC? Who employs the President and his Vice? They employ themselves by your words? Do you not know that the VP candidate MUST tender his CV to the candidate, who in turn will submit it to the party. All required documents to be attached with the forms to be submitted to INEC? Na wah for you bros.
So you think that aside from sitting down one on one, CVS must not be submitted? If Tinubu and Shettima did not submit CVS, would they be there today? You dey funny too much my friend.
So you do not know that politicians at that level hire PAs who handle such issues? I wonder the basis of your continued argument, in the face of facts showed to you.
I see that you are truly thinking straight as you earlier said to someone. You are rambling my dear fellow. There is still no such place where I have said Reno was the decider. If you read it like that e no concern me. As for the rest, obviously there would be a central team responsible for collecting and submitting all documents, not just CVs, for both individuals. Atiku asking for Obi's CV in this context is obviously more consistent with your earlier job candidate theory, which of course, itself was rather nonsensical. The bottom line is Atiku was not convinced and Reno was in a position to influence him. We don't need to argue. Reno has promised you more details. I wonder, will you be bold enough to admit you were wrong when the proof is provided? That's a more serious takeaway from this meaningless back forth: a question that you may use to interrogate your own integrity when the time comes. Good luck! |

DeepSight: To be a convincer in such a scenario, you must have decided first. You must have made a decision in your mind that that person was the right choice and that you would push that choice. Stop splitting hairs in a meaningless way good sir.
You have made baseless leaps of assumptions here - i have highlighted in bold the words that show this.
Reno was an aide to Atiku. Atiku could direct that CVs be collated through him or any other steps in the administrative process be taken by him for that matter. You need to pay attention to what is being claimed. Reno claims that he was being begged and harassed by PO for the role. His email does not disclose any such thing. It only discloses a CV forwarded to him at the instruction of his boss. Your assumption that Reno was a "convincer" is simply baseless - rooted in absolutely nothing.
Aside from that I wonder what sort of imagination you have about Nigerian politics so as to give you the impression that at that level a personality such as Atiku would rely on a nonentity kid like Reno to "convince" him of such a heavy weight decision as choice of Vice President. I will stop short of saying what I really think of such a preposterous notion out of respect for you.
At all events, you are surely aware that Atiku has explained how he chose Obi - at the recommendation of Obasanjo. That's why I started where I started...you people are talking as if the position of VP is one people apply for with CV's. Where is that done? You pick your vice based on the value the person can offer you. It is the principal to scout for a vice that fits his needs and he certainly won't be asking for CV's from one he desires. In fact, he would be the one to ask the person nicely. That is to say, if Atiku asked for Obi's CV it only means he was not convinced yet. Can we at least agree on that? |

It is perfectly normal for bosses to ask those who are in search of employment to send their CVs to them through their PAs. That’s part of the job schedule of the PA. He’s there to attend to such personal matters, as the representative of the boss.
Now that in no way translates to the PA’s claim that he facilitated the employment. It will amount to a breach of confidentiality by the PA and possibly earn him a sack, if he remains with that same boss. This is not a matter for inexperienced people to talk about.
Reno’s received instruction was simple. He showed it in the email. The instruction was “receive the CV”. Next would be to forward to the boss for review and decision. It did not translate to facilitation to employ. The instruction did not include asking Reno Omokri to scrutinize.
Read the below:
“A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Monday, gave insight into the emergence of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s running mate on the PDP ticket in the 2019 elections.
The member of the Strategic Communications Directorate of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Anthony Ehilebo, who made a live appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily in 2023, said former President Olusegun Obasanjo recommended Obi for the slot.
“In 2019, he supported our candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, but I’ll tell you a backstory that people hardly know. People don’t even know that he was the one that recommended his present candidate of choice to Atiku Abubakar as a condition for supporting him in 2019.
“That was the plan: ‘have these two people run on the platform, so that you [Atiku] can mentor him and by the time he comes of age, he’ll be able to [run for president],” That's the part that tickles me the most about this whole denial business you people are doing and it is why I asked, is the position of VP one that you submit job applications for? Is this not something the principal sits down and arranges with his preferred choice man-to-man? Not only did he not do that, you are saying he sent it to his PA to receive it. Okay, let's assume it was part of the process and Reno received it as PA. Don't you know that part of what a PA would do when they receive such is to screen out undesirable applications based on the criteria provided by their boss? There is zero logical reasoning why Reno had to receive the said CV before Atiku could look at it, except that he wanted Reno to first assess it. My dear friend, rest. The picture is quite clear. |

You know better than this. But where did I say Reno was the decider? It is you who should do better than obvious strawman arguments. I said he was the likely the convincer: If he forwarded the CV to Reno, it must be that Reno was to scrutinize the CV [and then ostensibly give a report to the said Oga, and ostensibly, said report would logically have a bearing on the outcome of the entire discussion]. If you disagree, no problem, but I would like you to explain to me, logically, what Reno's job in receiving the CV was. |

Meaning that Reno was more like an assistant to Atiku or maybe an adviser. What Reno posted above does not imply that P.O was begging him to help him beg oga to pick him What would the resume be sent to Reno for? Scrutiny right? This is not an SSA or special adviser position.. A whole VP had to send his resume through Reno? Does that make sense except that it would mean Obi was not Atiku's first choice and he had to be convinced? And going by the email thread, who looks like the obvious convincer? Irony1: I get your point, but this is not the first time electricity has been given exclusive right to states to handle. Why repeat the same thing again? Like I just explained, this was done in stages. The power sector is divided into three sub-sectors: Generation, Transmission, and Distribution. In the first stage, which was Buhari's version of the law, Transmission and distribution was ceded to the States. In Tinubu's amendment, the States can now also manage generation if they want. |
Politics › Re: Tinubu Signs Bill Granting States Full Control Over Electricity by SmartyPants(m): 4:54pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
Irony1: If Tinubu is sincere, let him remove electricity from the exclusive list. Also this is not the first time he has brought a bill giving states power over electricity generation. In 2024 the bill was signed and up till now states haven't done anything simply because electricity is still in the exclusive list. Pick up the Constitution and check carefully. You'll see that electricity has never been in the executive list. It has always been in the concurrent list with numerous caveats and provisos. Buhari's 2022 Act removed many of these restrictions. Tinubu's ammendment just removed all the remaining ones. |

That's not the right way to look at it. What this Act does is to create simultaneous power regimes: the existing National structure and a parrellel structure which allows any state to take itself off the grid. The FG is not taking its hands off power, it's simply allowing more hands come to the table. This can open the door for private companies to take over in partnership with the States, and it will greatly benefit those that already have suitable resources for power generation. The States don't have to spend a penny. |

Politics › Re: New Tax Laws: Side Hustles, Freelance Will Be Taxed by SmartyPants(m): 9:02am On Jun 27, 2025 |
BlackViper: Two obstacles I envision which will hinder this new tax regime:
1. The dubious reputation and record of the Nigerian political class when it comes to handling public monies. Most Nigerians regard our politicians as little more than criminals and fraudsters. This erosion of trust between the rulers and the ruled, effectively means that nobody trusts the government to utilise tax income honestly and responsibly. And judging from the country’s history with corruption, who can blame the Nigerian masses?
2. It looks like they have borrowed a lot of ideas from the US Tax Code called Progressive Taxation. But why doès Bola Tinubu think an extremely poor country like Nigeria is ready for the adoption of such a rigorous tax regime? The reason why taxation works in developed nations like America is because of the existence of a large and wealthy populace. Nigeria allegedly has a per capita income of about $6,000 (which I believe is a wildly inaccurate figure because the average Nigerian doesn't earn up to $6,000 or N9.2 million per annum) For the sake of argument, let's assume this figure is correct. But even if this is the case, why would you want to tax Nigerians using tax assessment standards that were meant for countries like the United States where the per capita income is about $80,000 per annum? How does that make any sense?
Will you be able to generate as much tax revenue from a poor country like Nigeria where the average citizen earns only $6,000 per annum, as you would generate from a wealthy nation like America where the average citizen earns $80,000?
I laughed when I read the part about corporate taxation. Who exactly are they going to tax? The Manufacturing Association of Nigeria (MAN) has been complaining since 2023 that hundreds of manufacturers are either going out of business every year or simply relocating out of Nigeria.
Most Nigerian factories and industries are operating at less than 5% capacity utilisation.
They spend at least 80% of their income on meeting energy needs (buying diesel and fuel) and paying salaries.
These people are honestly running out of ideas and they have come up with a new way to fleece Nigerians.
Watch and see how this tax business becomes weaponised against political opponents and sections of the country that have the temerity to refuse to vote for the ruling party. Terribly off point. Even if it is 5 naira the manufacturers have to pay, let them pay. Besides is manufacturing the only corporate sector in the country? Why are you reasoning solely to find faults?? Again, erosion of trust is not an issue because the system is now set up to ensure that if you use banks you must pay your tax whether you have trust or not. |
