Timbuktou: Classic case of sexism. Why can't a woman give birth at 90 if she wanted to? It's not fair, and men are to blame. I heard some feminist are advocating for the stop of menstruation, they term it as sexism, since men don't menstruate. They say it's either both gender menstruate or both don't. But how they intend to achieve this, is what I don't know. Perhaps they are already working on a drug that will stop menstrual flow. *sigh* |

cococandy: I don't know about any other place. I'm just saying for the place I know. Which is my hometown. If it is not sexist what is it? Besides you can't overlook the unhealthy tension and pressure it puts on ladies to get married. Anything flies because of that.
@bold really? I can't think of any derisive slang in my language that is used to mock single men over 30. None. If someone knows, let them enlighten me. I don't see any single guy being called old cargo because of his status. Of course the parents may stress the point of marriage to him because they want grandkids but no one makes him believe is value as human is diminished because he's single.
Why are you guys even arguing with me over something that is clear like day?. Who are those running 'helter skelter' looking for husband in all the odd places if not single ladies. Why? Could it because they are put under more pressure and made to feel less worthy than their single brothers?
If the level of disdain for unmarried women is same as that for unmarried men, why aren't we seeing the effects on the single guys? This is why I always say this feminism movement is a rebellious move against God & nature... U as a lady should know why parents put more pressure on a girl child. Menopause is no respecter of persons but age, & a woman's beauty dissipates with age, that is why this old cargo of a thing is associated with women. Men don't have any health condition restraining them from being productive at any age, but this doesn't apply to women. So u can see why the pressure is more on a girl child, it's for her own good. U can't be wiser than ur mum.. I know of a man in my neighbourhood who got married to a young lady at the age of 70, she's likely to be the third wife, the girl gave birth recently, his age didn't detract from his potency, but does this apply to a woman? |

1miccza: My thoughts are drawn from a very far thought,i feel the source of the man's seperation from his wife would have been cheating which led to lack of trust and subsequently seperation. If he was still with the wife maybe he wouldn't have been that barbaric and heartless... I'm talking abt the man's character. The man is hard hearted, this has nothing to do with his wife. The prospect of changing such people is very remote, I believe only God can redeem such people. The man is hostile & aggressive by nature. I'm pretty sure his reprehensible & vicious attitude was what led to the divorce, I doubt if it was cheating, because only very few women can put up with domestic violence these days. So his manner is very off putting. |

Babymama1: The recurring thing in this discussion here so far is that love is necessary but love is not a stand alone term. There seems to be ingredients that make up love and it differs from person to person For instance if raumdeuter is only attracted to girls with DD bustline, isnt it then a fact that his definition of love must include the DD cup and a girl with a B cup will not be included .no be so? What is love in our human terms? The word 'love' is ambiguous. So many virtues are embedded in that word. When the grand word 'love' begins to dissipate, then these virtues begins to surface. Love also has its shortcomings.... |

Any other thing I can tolerate, but I can do something really dangerous as regards d above 2. If u can kill someone on account of cheating or domestic violence, there is really nothing to put up with then? because dese are d major challenges people encounter in marriages... I'll advise u to discard such barbarous mindset. What if u inadvertently cheat on spouse? Or u think it's impossible? |
Family › Re: Very Low-intellectual Youths In Nigeria: Who's To Blame-schools Or Parents? by snakebeat: 12:42pm On Jun 05, 2015 |
KissesandWine: Having had my secondary education in Nigeria and the rest abroad, the problem lies with the students as much as it does with the teachers and parents.
When I was in secondary school in Nigeria, we were basically encouraged to "cram" in order to pass. There was no real studying done. There were no student-teacher engagements. I mean.. how could there be.. when every student saw his/her teacher as a mini god. Coming over here and seeing how education is done, it's not hard to understand why kids of the western world are seemingly more intelligent and intellectually sound.
Go into classrooms and you see students having intelligent conversations with their teachers. Engaging in respectful arguments which eventually bring up points that prompt further research, thereby adding to what they already know. This teacher-student relationship strengthens the bond between both parties involved. Students are not afraid to ask questions for fear that they would get reprimanded for doing so. They are also confident in the answers that they will receive. Education is made to be enjoyable.. and people actually look forward to learning. As far as I know.. this is lacking in most of our secondary institutions back home.
Take it outside of educational institution and bring it home. Allow me to opine that parents these days do not do enough to see that their children are getting the best in terms of learning. Growing up.. say around age 5 - 10, my mum would see to it that I completed my assignments, help me right my wrongs etc. She went out of her way and bought me books to read. After reading, we would go over the books together to reinforce what I had learned. As I grew older, this gradually changed. She slowly withdrew her involvement in my education. I won't say I blame her.. she had other responsibilities she had to take care of and this took away from the time she would have had to spend with me. It's a tough world for the Nigerian parent today, but why not give priority to what priority is due? Youths these days are allowed to their education into their hands too early. When they sense that they have no one to answer to, and know that they only have to do little to get by.. that little is all they do.
Let's ditch the blame game for a while and focus on the students themselves. As much as the teachers and parents have a responsibility to ensure the intellectual soundness of these kids, the kids have the greatest responsibility. Nigerian students these days no longer want to read. They now believe in cheating (Expo) and similarly, at the university level, blocking. As soon as there's a shortcut available.. that's where you'll find them. Actually.. let me hold my horses for a bit and look at this from a different standpoint. Do you really blame them? They've been conditioned to believe that their environment only rewards those who engage in such practices and punishes those who actually take their time to study. When lecturers are failing those who labored hard to earn a grade and rewarding those who "blocked", why would a student engage in the former?
I could write on and on. The truth is that the downfall of the Nigerian educational system is influenced by so many factors. The rot is at the core. If the core is not fixed, I'm afraid we would continue to experience a steady decline. U really didn't spend d better parts of ur life in dis country. U opined dat d deplorable state of our educational system is caused by so many factors, without naming one factor.... When last did u visit dis country? |

jadelyn007: Lmao, you ladies should let this cheating issue be abeg. Its as simple as ABC, if your man or woman cheats on you, do whatever you like, if you like get out of the marriage, if you like stay, if you like kill the cheat, if you like cheat back, whatever it is that you feel like doing please do is fine. Stop being so hard on yourself. If I for example find my man cheating on me, I'd do the first thing that comes to my mind at that instance, be it divorce, ignoring it, cheating back, killing him n dumping his body in the lake, yea, I'm that crazy.
The most important thing is I won't feel bad afterwards.
Just do whatever you want to do and damn the consequences. U won't feel bad after killing & dumping d remains of ur man, just because of cheating!!!! My sister, honestly, boko haram needs u & ur likes.... |

DollyParton1: So because the Aunty doesn't want to raise a son that will cook for his wife, she has to force a sick girl to do the chores while the healthy boy is lounging. And u don't see that as wickedness? If she wanted to be fair she should have done the dishes herself, since its not a guy's thing. Don't you think she is passing across a message that its ok for his son to make his sick wife do chores instead of resting in the future. She is not passing any message across, she was just trying to instil a sense of duty into her daughter. & I think every well meaning & prospective mother should emulate that, including u. The aunt is a woman, & a mother at that, telling her daughter to do d house chores & cooking only bespeaks her daughter is in a condition to do it.... |
Family › Re: Doing The House Chores,(parents)? by snakebeat: 9:37am On Jun 05, 2015 |
DollyParton1: See another wickedness o. What is wrong if her son cooks for his wife?
When someone tells u they got headache, irrespective of the gender. A sane person would recommend rest at least. What is wrong in boy doing chores. A sane mother is supposed to divide the the chores evenly amongst the kids. How will the boy fend for himself when he finds himself living alone. Or when he gets married and the wife is sick or something, he will be dragging the wife out of bed to cook and clean for him.
Really, sometimes I catch shame when I see the ways some mothers are raising their boys.
The saying that "Many are raising their daughters like their sons, while not many have the courage to raise their sons like their daughters "comes to mind. What a great shame.... So u want her aunt to raise a son dat will be cooking for his wife. |

U think she doesn't know what she is doing? My dad cooks when nobody is around, but u wouldn't expect him to do dat when everyone is around. U want a boy to be doing all d chores & cooking, when a girl is in d house, smh... Why are women bias for christ sake? Boys are known for doing back breaking jobs around d house, a girl is not allowed to do certain work because she's fragile, a man can do everything, d only stress free thing girls can do in d house is cooking, u still want a man to do it. Of what use are women then? Excluding procreation. |
