luvmijeje: Obi didn't have to play politics of hatred to win the election. He didn't have to play tribal cards knowing how sensitive we all are to it. Their rigging machinery is enough for them to win it.Precisely the point. Did OBI and APGA have to descend to this level of vile ethnic baiting to win this election? Can you imagine that even after the election OBI said the women that protested in awka are from osun state! |
Igbos generally don't care about parties and (rigging and cut-throat politics aside) will try to vote in a competent leader. However a few occurences this year turned many Igbos off apc and its many derivatives (Ngige, FFK and Igbokwe included). Your guess is as good as mine as to what these occurences are. If anything, let this be a PR and constituent-relations lesson to APC. Learn from the Americans and be as subtle/sophisticated as you claim when dealing with potential votes. Anyways its not like I care for APGA either...Just sharing my 2 cents.
Let me understand you. Did people vote for APGA because OBI has done well this past eight years and obiano will represent a continuity of his good governance? OR they voted AGAINST APC because it is awolowo and Hausa peoplle party? Any which way, do you people seriously think we care? The bottom line is that , as usual , anambra has distinguished itself negatively. it is not about having billionaires and high scores in jamb exams. THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN A PEOPLE WITH A TOTALLY MESSED UP VALUE SYSTEM. |
PhenomenonVFX: Well I am also waiting for the day complete 19 governors will attend Amaechi NGF. Then I will be sure. Till then, I am satisfied watching sycophants on both sides of the political divide slugging it out on Nairaland. That's why they call it secret ballot. Stupidest. My brother might want to contest an election , true democracy let's me vote my conscience in secret to avoid intimidation in the open! |
Ujujoan: It's funny how for the past eight years Obi has been invited for this rally which holds every year . . . and not once has he attended.2 million? I thought they said OBI is a very stingy person? Ok. I see. Election has brought out the generousity in him. |
KenGali: Seems some people are really hard at hearing or rather can read but no comprehension. So why did cosharis lie if it was straight forward stock logistics? Why did he not state precisely who and what the armoured vehicles were for? It is not a crime to buy armoured vehicles. It is a crime to lie to evade tax It is a crime to spend public money not appropriated for. It is a crime to wilfully contravene public procurement act and due process It is a crime to inflate contracts It is a crime to approve expenditure above your approval limit. |
cjrane: Those shameless tribalists at Premium times,Sahara report and Osun Defenfers can write their junk journalism. Who reads their crap these days anyway?Believe me, the big shame is on you for stooping to defend the indefensible out of crass tribal sentiment. First the armoured cars were not appropriated for. Second, due process on public procurement were not followed. Third, the prices were jacked up corruptly Four, why did she not purchase it from her ministry budget. Fifth, the cost of the vehicles were above the approval limit of a minister, but she approved anyways. Defending this act is shameful. The best you guys can do to help her is to just keep quiet.. |
www.nairaland.com/attachments/1380054_jona_prayed__jpg8cf98bb3219963a55d4ed66cf5e63ec4 President Fish Brain !
Why publicise a prayer if the intent is to ask of god in secret. Like the Pharisee of yore, this president is only making a publicity stunt using the name of God in vain. Otherwise, prayer is not what you invite press photographers for every time. This president never seize to amaze me! |
fkaz: When jona is going left senator femi is going right,The entire jamboree is going to be an organised waste of time . Even if decisions are arrived at, they can not be enforced without the approval of the national assembly. There your guess is as good as mine. @topic Jonathan and okunronmu are definitely not on the same page. If you need any proof that jonathan, as usual, is confused and confusing others, here you have it. |
dt02: OwwkkAre you guys so daft and desperate for anti APC and tinubu story that you can make your usual asisinine comments on this piece of concocted trash? The idiots who made up this story is so unimaginative that the entire story line is laughable. For NAIRALAND, this is a sure sign that the standards has gone to the dogs. Any brainless jobless person can sit down in a beer parlour. Whip up the most senseless crap and make front page. It seems anything goes. Shame. |
Onlytruth: You'd think that the oppression they suffered under Hausa/Fulani rule which culminated in Abiola (man and wife) deaths, and other humiliating events during those years would have thought them to think twice.I find it quite interesting that IGBOS are suddenly taking the position that an alliance with the north is a bad thing. I suppose it was not bad when NCNC allied with NPC in the first republic. There was nothing wrong with it when AZIKWE's npp allied with npn in the second republic and when majority of IGBOS were in the nrc in the third republic. Now that there is an alliance between the west and north we are having all these mindless unsocilicitated advise that northerners are evil. What a bunch of shameless hypocrites! Why don't have your own alliance while we have ours. |
lygn19: Dz yoruba's keep living in falsehood and lies, well I don't blame them that's der nature,,,The same reason they attacked the mid west too? Very funny after thought excuses! |
chukwudi44: You seriously expect peter obi to campaign in lagos for a gubernatorial poll holding inAnambra state? SMHThe significance is that you guys have been saying that since the so called Lagos deportation saga and ngige principled bridge building stance, that he is finished politically. Some of you went as far as claiming that he dared not step anywhere in anambra to campaign. It has turned out to be a huge lie so far. What the ladipo rally signifies to the igbos in anambra is simply that if their brethren in lagos who live in lagos do not have any issue with NGIGE who are we to cry more than the bereaved? I only wish ngige's detractors can show me any other politician that has had to confront the kind of wicked and tribal baiting and negative propaganda he has had to withstand and still remain this popular and loved by his people. Lastly, there is a moral to this and here it is. If NGIGE had taken the simple option of disassociating himself from APC and his Yoruba allies, he would have had a far easier ride. By remaining steadfast, despite the handicap of his stance, he paints the picture of a politician who is principled and courageous. |
malc619: CAN has become the mouthpiece of PDP....It is obvious that CAN under oritsejafor is morbidly anti Islam and utterly religious ly bigoted. The only rational reason for attacking aregnesola is because he is a practicing Muslim. What valid points have they raised in this press release? If they disagree with the new educational policy , it is a diffrent matter. But the policy affects christian and muslim schools alike, so why introduce religious sentiments into it? |
t2luv: I always say that country deserves the leaders that they have. This is a man that has never done anything while he was governor, and yet you have people showering him with adolation. Replacing one bad apple with another bad apple does the country no good. The people need to demand better from the elected leaders. This is a man that can't give account the source of his wealth, and are in aura of his personality. O ma se ooYou are getting of mixed up. The people who admire tinubu do not do so because they think he perfect. Nobody is and definitely no nigerian politician is.what we all do is look at someone's redeeming qualities and make a choice accordingly. For me, I prefer tinubu for the following reasons. One, he is the leading opposition politician in Nigeria without him, today, nigerIa would have been a virtual one party state with PDP ruling every region of the country. Second, since he left his job as treasurer of Mobil to become a senator under SDP , he has been consistently consistent in his political leanings. Third, he was the only governor that stood up to Obasanjo on the issue of local government, and did not buckle under even after Obasanjo illegally ceased allocation for three years. He is the architect of modern Lagos. He increased IGR from 650 million in 1997 to more than 14 billion and conceptualized most of the worthy programs his successor FASHOLA is now actualosing. When obj and his PDP goons came to capture the south west in 2003 and brought ruins and backwardness, the jagaban was the generalissimo headed the army that drove away the bandits and swept the south west clean of the PDP vermin. But most of all, he gave us FASHOLA. everybody turned against him then.but he said then. This is the best man for the job. Now it is very obvious. But then we all turned against him. Is TINUBU perfect? Absolutely not. Most objective people judge a man by comparing his positives with his nuisance value and I think that is why aside from buhari, no other politician has the kind of cult like followership TINUBU has in this country today. |
Atouke: Thifnubu is the most corrupt politician in Nigeria today.AM yet to see any politician that has stolen 1/4 of the govt. resources at their disposal as Asiwaju. And no western country has charged him for money laundering seven good years after leaving public service? This line of argument on TINUBU is so idiotic I don't know where to start. If you have evidence why not forward them to the UK or USA governments. If you think EFCC is afraid t of rtying tinubu in Nigeria could you not forward the evidence you have to these foreign countries3? Are u suggesting they are afraid of him as well? Or are u ignorant to the point of thinking that the most corrupt politician would not have had to launder most of the money abroad? |
agbameta: GEJ is the president of Nigeria and a public official while Tinubu is not both. Must you compare a private citizen with your president? Think highly of your incompetent president sometimes..On point. This is the sorry pass the jonathan presidency has brought us. A presidency so debased that one of GEJ top propagandist on this forum once confessed that the reason the only reason he attacks tinubu in almost every post is to get back at APC supporters for their frequent attacks on president Jonathan. @topic |
pazienza: No,it was yoruba treachery as represented by awo that pushed zik towards balewa, yoruba left zik no choice. Blame yorubas. And it was also awo treachery that led him to ally with shagari's NPN in 1979? |
gratiaeo: For those calling him novice in political environs, Fashola was neither known nor heard before he became Lagos state governorFor your information FASHOLA was the c hief of staff and member of the Lagos cabinet from 2002 to 2007. A good five years before becoming governor. He had a good knowledge of the programs and policies of the government he was taking over because he was part of it five years prior. |
DerideGull: Do you think it is sensible to embark on coup for power grab by IGBO to dominate the army and country when the Igbo officers had already dominated the officers’ cadre of Nigerian armed forces? The key issue is that NPC control s the government at the center. The objective of the coup was to grab power at the center, eliminate most non IGBOS in the highest hierachy of the army and then promulgate obnoxious decree like decree 34 to subjugate and dominate disadvantaged regions like the north . |
pazienza: Don't sweat it son, nobody is here to convince you to stop believing in your lies, we are just here to state facts, and not give you guys the kind of media monopoly you had in 60's that you used to turn the whole country against ndiigbo. The media in the sixties was dominated by ZIK's newspapers. The daily times and tribune was pro NCNC/action group alliance. The whole country was not against the IGBOS in the 60s. Even after the civil war broke out, the midwest and west were intially neutral until biafra bombed rosy cinema in Lagos and invaded the midwest and the west. Your fellow easterners, the minorities turned against you after you mistreated them during the war. There are more than 250 tribes in this country, if you say 249 do not like you, then something must be wrong with you if you are so universally disliked . |
DerideGull: Are you a slow learner? The list provided does not even include officers from the ranks of Lieutenants and Second Lieutenants. I suggest you stay away from blunders committed by goofy British named Robin Luckham. There are more than hundred Igbo officers within the ranks of Lieutenants and Second Lieutenants that were not listed. No am not. The problem is that you seems to believe only figures acceptable to you. The figures of the breakdown of the officer corps including percentages according to region were provided by madiebo and ademoyega in their books. But the only figures you will accept is the one that supports your position. Secondly, what is the major relevance of this to the fact that the January 1966 coup was a power grab by IGBOS to dominate the army and the country? |
pazienza: What are you talking about? Who is madiebo, is he a god? Sowie,i am an igbo,in igboland no one is taken as a god, they are only respected. I don't give a damn about madiebo, but i care to see the full list with names,it can't be that hard to provide, unless neither luckham, madiebo, etc had/has the list, in that case,we can safely say that they were pulling out their percentages from thin air.To arrive at a percentage, all we need is the total population of the officer corps and the total number of igbo officers as at 1966. If I use your list of the total number of igbo officers against the total number of the officer corps as at 1966, 135/330 ×100 does that come to 87% ? All you need to counter me here is dispute the two figures of 135 and 330 to show how you arrived at your percentage. You do not need a full list of names to arrive at a percentage figure. |
pazienza: Names, names, names. Give me names or just shut up, you don't go about throwing percentages around without providing a list.Nonsense. The other guy provided sources as to the total number of army officers broken down by region, he said it is not credible. I provided sources where fellow IGBOS validated the same figures, you are saying I should provide the names of the entire 330 officers in the Nigerian army then! I see you do not have any more valid point. |
pazienza: Luckham is a human and not a god, even him is liable to deceit and false propaganda, it is not good enough to say igbos constituted any percentage of the officer corp, any tom, dick and harry can say any thing he likes and that serves his purpose, so quoting lukham like he is god cannot help you here, anybody can get any source to back up whatever claim he is making. All we want is for you and luckham to list the name of all the members of the military corp,so that we can use it to determine how he arrived at his figures and percentages, until you and luckham do that, nobody is going to take you serious here. The figures he quoted were precisely quoted by general madiebo in his book, the Nigerian revolution and the biafran war and validated by njoku in his book. While the igbos dominated the senior officer corps from rank of major above, the junior corps was dominated by northerners. |
Katsumoto: @ PazienzaMy man I must give it to you. You are very exceptional and meticulous the way you make your points. I doff my hat. |
Katsumoto: First, this are after the eventFurthermore, why was ojukwu the commander of the 5th battalion in kano and , madiebo the artillery commander in kaduna left untouched while tim onwuategwu mercilessly slaughtered shodeinde and ademulegun even when they were not resisting arrest. If the intention was get rid of senior officers that can be an impediment to the coup, why was ojukwu and madiebo in kano and kaduna spared? in hos book, why we struck, , ademoyega expressed doubt as to the ability of the officer assigned to arrest nronsi to carry out the task and pleaded he ne allowed to do it. Of course, ifeajuna and okafor refused because they knew what their ulterior motive was. |
hercules07: Atimes, I wish Nigeria will just divide and everybody should go it alone, infact, I will rather we stayed with the Northerners than with any other group in the South, at least, with the northerners, what you see is what you get.The question is do the north want to be with you? |
pazienza: Haha, funny the usage of Igbo or Igbo speaking. So,is Nzeogwu Igbo or Igbo speaking? *grins*What does it matter then. Did they not all eventually fought on the side of biafra? Most of them in the midwest colluded with ojukwu to facilitate the invasion of the Midwest even when ejoor wanted the mid west to be neutral. |
nku5: The truth is that people were relieved at the initial success of the coup until the northern elite did what many people still do today - they spun a tale of an igbo plot for domination and its very easy to inflame passions that way especially as igbos had been on the receiving end of suspicion and antagonism in the north long before 1966.Go read Ben gbulie account. The real motive of the coup became obvious right from the next day, but what other conclusions do you expect people to come to about a coup planned by 90% of igbo officers and where the victims are 100 percent non igbos. If it was the other way round what other conclusions would you have drawn? |
slimghost: And Chris Anuforo was not igbo? Ifeajuna and don Okafor obviously wanted something else but that doesn't make it an Igbo coup! Unless Anuforo and Nzeogwu are/were no longer igbos. I advice you to further read ben Gbulie's "the five Majors".I have read it and I have also read madiebo and njoku's accounts of that coup. My conclusion is that despite the noble intentions of nzeogwu and ademoyega, what was planned was an igbo coup. It was from the account of njoku that I confirmed that nronsi had foreknowledge of the coup but was assured they won't kill anybody. |
slimghost: You are arguing pointlessly! If you read my very first post on this thread, you would see where I laid the whole blame on Ifeajuna! My issues started with you when you mischieviously stated that the coup was a power grab by the igbos.I have carefully gone through every single book on the first coup . I always find it laughable when IGBOS try to advance the argument that ifeajuna acted alone and selfishly. What is easily deductible was that ifeajuna and all the other igbo officers knew the agenda of that coup and their agenda has nothing to do with with whatever the noble objective mzeogwu or ademouega may have had. The coincidence that there was no serious plan in the east, that ojukwu who comamdimg a battalion in kano and nronsi were spared while other officers from the north and west were mercilessly murdered by IBO officers like tim onwiategu and ifeajuna is utter nonsense. The January 15th coup was an igbo coup pure and simple. |
