I didn't get any email, no admission letter, it was just stated that "grad accept-pending financials" while others states "Complete-awaiting program decision", there is a new option to submit bank statements.

What do you think i should do?

Hello, I got into Villanova University . Got the email to check my application portal around 2am Nigeria time today. 4am Nigeria time yesterday, I got an email from the graduate director of my department that he has recommended me for admission.

It was such a fast turn over because I wrote my GRE on February 6th, I immediately sent my unofficial scores to him via email, when my scores became available online on February 14th, I uploaded it to my application, it was on Monday when my official scores got to them that all the requirement was met. I am of the opinion that he read my application before I submitted my official scores.

Also I have been in contact with him before my GRE exam and he waived the evaluation requirement and TOEFL for me when I sent my transcript and letter of English Proficiency from the Registrar of my school to him via email.

The deadline is March 1, so funding decision would come after then.

My profile: My search was guided by the time I took my GRE cause most school's deadline has closed. Here:

So the test day experience.

Couldn't really sleep much, I kept waking up at intervals, I left home around 6am as my exam was for 8:30am, I was on the mainland and my exam was in V.I,dragnet center. I got there few minutes after 8 due to the traffic. Oooh I ensured I took rice before leaving home cause I read that it was very important, I also took lucocade boost and chin chin with me for the break time.

When I got to the center, we were briefed, we kept our belongings in our lockers and we were assigned a working station. There was ear plug which was helpful during the exam although it was too tight and wanted to give me headache, so I removed it at intervals, i was also cold due to the AC

My issue task was sweet, wrote about 5 paragraphs with about 7mins to proofread, I am a fast typist(not too fast though)
My argument task was also cool, I wish a survey was stated though so I could tackle it well, but I tried my best. Expecting a 4 or 4.5.

So while preparing for GRE, I didn't know what to wish for, either quantitative as experimental or verbal. I know the verbal bores me alot and I noticed from my practice tests that I scored higher in my first two verbal than the last 1 when verbal was the experimental, which means I get tired of the questions as time goes on. Then I knew quantitative was my strong point, but I didn't know if I should wish for Quantitative experimental because I might also get tired and I needed greater score for my quantitative because of my field.

The first question was Verbal, I said in my mind that I was done for.

I think the first verbal wasn't that nice, I didn't utilise my time very well, the 1st quantitative also had some hard questions and surprisingly, I couldn't manage my time well too, it's surprising because all through my preparation, I always finish the Quantitative on time with at least 5 minutes to spare, so I will say my Quantitative was generally harder than what I saw in the practice tests.

For the verbal, I went with the advice on this thread to do the TC and SE first, then the short passages and then the long ones. So it meant in two sections, I just picked the answers for the long passages randomly. The second quantitative was also hard, I saw that I had one unanswered question few seconds to go, I just went to the question and picked any option , for the 3rd Verbal, I had enough time to go over all my answers again.

Let me talk about my expected score. I wanted at least 320, 155V 165Q, but when I saw my score, although I didn't meet it, I was genuinely happy as I smiled. My unofficial score was:

153V 161Q. I was not happy because of my quantitative but because of my verbal, because in my mind I was already preparing for 146 highest. So I would say it was an auspicious test for me and the verbal was fortuitous. Oooh I forgot to add that before the third section started, I was already hungry, so it's best to eat before the test, I took my energy drink and snack during the break too.

In all, I am happy with my scores, I sent my scores to four schools.

I applied for Masters in Statistics or Applied Statistics in some schools and Biostatistics in others.

PS: GRE was the only item remaining in all my applications, they have all been completed, all recommendations sent, application submitted and fees paid. So the GRE just sealed the applications.

Good afternoon everyone, so I gave GRE today

I have been following this thread for over six months now, it was just in December 2018 that I decided to apply for fall 2019 as I graduated in October, so the process was quite tedious for me. From going through several school's website to check their priority deadline and then I was able to come up with some schools whose funding deadline was either in February or March.

It also means I started preparing for GRE in December, and because I was also researching for schools to apply to, finishing up my applications, there were days when I couldn't really read for the GRE, so I would say I prepared for about 1 month and some days.

The first thing I did was to watch all magoosh videos for the Verbal and Quantitative. I took the first Magoosh online prep test and I had 158Q 146V, that was when I knew I was in soup. My verbal was bad. I remember coming here to ask for tips.

I couldn't really learn much vocabularies, learnt less than 500 , I didn't see any of them in the real exam though, so in my opinion, it's better to have a good strategy for your verbal aside the vocabularies and maybe the vocabularies can just be the upper hand you'd have.

Throughout the one month, I did alot of full practice tests(I excluded the AWA most times), I used the Magoosh vocabularies app to learn new words, I later downloaded the Manhattan mobile GRE app and subscribed for one month (about $10), I used Manhattan textbook for the Quantitative, went through Part 5 and 6, late last month, I used the Princeton review for Verbal and I learnt the act of writing down and eliminating options. Beforehand, I just answer the Verbal questions in my head. So I would say Princeton review gave a good strategy.

For AWA, I went through Kaplan textbook. I think that was all I did, some of my practice test results were:

So you see, the practice tests results for Verbal frightened me, only Manhattan verbal gave me hope but reading through all the pages of this thread within the last two weeks, most people said Manhattan verbal questions are not a true reflection of the real test questions. So I was pretty much scared and worried but within the last few days, I was relaxed and decided to be confident, I read less too so I wouldn't be too tired on test day.

So I have been trying to use the Magoosh flash cards application to learn the vocabularies in preparation for my exam, I realised it was not an effective way for me to learn new words. I got an email from Magoosh about their new app and I just want to inform the house. Incase you have tough time with the vocabularies, you can check out GRE Vocabulary Builder app in playstore. It is more interactive than the flashcard in such a way that you'd be given a word and options would be given to chose from. I just started using it and it is so effective, there are different levels for different difficult segments and there are about 1000words in total

Just thought I should share with others incase it would be helpful.

Do not waste your time working too hard on the RCs as you may not improve significantly within a short time.

You are better of making sure you get 8-10 out of 10 for the TCs and SEs in both sections. If you can get 8/10 in section(s) 1 and 2, your scaled score will most likely be 146-148 even without getting any of the RCs. So my advice: Work on the SEs and TCs. Use most of your time to make sure you get them right and then guess for the RCs.

The guesses can be educated. You can look for the questions that ask for simple things like "synonyms" as used in the passage or the "tone" of the writer. Not all RC questions are long and windy.

But if you have time, I will tell you to develop the strategy of reading the questions first just to have a feel of what you need to look for when reading the passage. That way, when you come across a part of the passage that has an answer you want, you will quickly recognize it. It will also help you know the aspect of the whole article that is just fluff because not every aspect of the passage will be useful.

practice from verbal grail and try to write/track your mistakes in a log book. Identify your weakness, is it TC, RC or SC once you have found out which section is giving you problems, now drill down to the cause e.g. Could it be you don't know enough words in context, or you fail to understand convoluted passages, or it could just be that your test taking strategies are poor (e.g. time management, tricks and skills to get the right answer even if you don't know the words)

You will need to really identify your area of weakness, inorder to correct it and move forward. Hence, you will keep rotating around that score range.
