Hello good people, who else was able to pay their George Washington application fee ? I’m currently stuck as I’ve exhausted all my cards available. I need a strong referral or personal testimony of card being used to pay so that I can have it done ASAP.

$80 no be beans. I no wan spend any! Help please.
Hi, I applied to the school last year and I was able to pay with a mastercard.

Another thing is that there was an information session last year and they waived application fee for people who attended the session, so I didn't pay for the second course I applied to. I just searched and I can see that the next one is January 21, try to sign up for it, join the session and introduce yourself, you don't have to stay throughout the session, it's just 30mins anyway, they should send you an application waiver code that day or the following day. Just Google George Washington admission information session.

Modified: I just realized that session date is for college of Engineering, if your course is not engineering, go to your college site and check their information session dates

Helo, nairalanders,
Please I need your opinion.
My school resumed yesterday 16th of January and classes starts on 21st, but I have an interview appointment on the 22nd January ( next week) . Though before I booked for the interview as I didn’t see earlier date , I wrote to the school letting them know, wether to defer to Fall or issue me an extension letter. The issued me an extension letter to present to the embassy should they ask why am going late.

But now my friend adviced me to cancel the appointment and defer to fall 2020, reason is that I may be denied because my school have already resumed . Please what’s your humble advice , is it to cancel the appointment and defer to fall, or should I go for the interview? Have there been a case where someone’s visa was issue irrespective of the date of resumption on the i-20?
Since you have an extension letter, go ahead with your interview

Any school ideas?
You have a good GRE score, if your quantitative is above 155, even better. Your GPA isn't bad too.

Apart from people in your field, most people might not really know the schools that have your course of interest. What I would advice you to do is to go on usnews, filter the search by your course of interest so you will be limited to the schools with your course only and then start going to each school site to check their requirements, to see if you like their curriculum, it's better to target public schools with maybe over 10k or 15k enrollment, check if they have funding and all that.

And at the end of the day, you can shortlist the schools and then apply to your final list. All the best.

Ranked 293-381

Why not apply to top 200 schools instead?
There's nothing wrong with that ranking. There are several schools that are not even ranked nationally (the ones ranked regionally) and people here have gotten their visa from there

it's not actually in the same city but the same state. I have three admissions already. I am waiting for the rest schools to make their decisions before i make my final decision.

Thanks for your assistance.
Since it's not the same city, then it shouldn't be an issue but you have to show all the funds for the visa interview

NwanyiOkpa:
Hello everyone. I have been admitted to MST to study Engineering for my master's. Now the issue is that i need to provide statement of $44K.

I have someone in the USA, in that same city that wants to sponsor (My sister, married hence we don't share the same surname). She is willing to bring part of the money while my other siblings contribute to making up for the rest.

The $44k comprises of accommodation and feeding (I would be living with my sibling over there hence, I don't really need to pay for the accommodation. However, i was still asked to provide an account bearing the total sum to be issued an I-20.

If issued the I-20, would it affect me during the Visa interview since i don't have funding? This is my priority school. I really love the school and i feel fortunate to be admitted as i did't really meet up the GRE cut.

Any assistance?
I assume you're for fall 2020, I will advice you to contact your department to give you some sort of funding or try to look for employment on campus that would waive your tuition, so that some sort of scholarship will show on your i20.

Your relative being in the same city as your school can also be a red flag, are all the schools you applied to in that same location?.

44k is a very large amount, even if you would be living with your sister, I think you will still have to show that you can afford the whole 44k.

So I will advice you to keep hoping for funding to make things easy, either in that particular school or other schools.

Others might have different opinions.

Go to emirate, the flight i talked about is back, 486k and it's also back on studentuniverse

I have been searching those two but no luck yet. Is wakanow still trustworthy? Some people are giving bad feedback and it them recently. I can't afford stories at this point.
I was checking Emirates few minutes ago and i saw 486k for tomorrow, screenshot below but when i checked again, it increased. Keep checking emirate for flights tomorrow, Saturday, or Sunday. If your class starts on Monday, you are still allowed to get to the US that same Monday, just ensure you are landing in the US on or before Monday.

Another option you should start looking at is to message your department or international office, tell them you have gotten your visa if they can give you like 3 days extension, it's still morning in Houston, so while searching for flights, also email them and wait for their response. If you see a flight, book it, the extension letter is only a plan B.

I will keep checking for you. All the best

I'm in the same situation now. Abeg which is the best, cheapest flight as of today... I need suggestions on where to get very affordable fare <=450k one way. Biko.
You can use skyscanner to check for flight to your location. Then when you identify the airlines that are cheap, you can then go to their website to book.

Sometimes it might be best to use more than one airlines, just ensure you leave enough time to transfer to the other airline especially if the first city you would be touching down in US isn't your final destination

Where are you going to and when do you want to leave naija?

Yes, he can buy a one way ticket, it won't be an issue. Students are allowed to do so

Nope, you are not getting it. There is a difference between an approved VISA and Issued VISA.

A VO can approve but another person is charged with issuing. When your VISA is approved by VO you are going to be on AP for few days before your status change to issue. You are actually talking about when to visit the embassy. You can visit the embassy and your VISA is approved ahead of time outside of 120days to your program start date but you can only pick your VISA within those 120days.

Now, get one thing clear not all VISA approved by the VO is issued.
Okay.

'An F-1 student visa for the USA can be issued up to 120 days in advance of your course of study start date. You will only be able to enter the US with an F-1 visa 30 days before your start date'.

Quoted from Google.

The 120days applies to when your VISA can be issued not when you can visit the embassy for interview.
Do people visit the embassy to be denied?, your visa is issued when the visa is approved smiley smiley.

I won't say you're too late anyway. There are schools that have their priority deadlines in January, February or even March. You just have to do a lot of research and email the graduate coordinator to be sure they have funding.

Good day everyone, question for gurus in the house, fall admission doesn’t start till sometimes in July or August and I’m planning on applying for visa by February, is this advisable? I mean judging that the schools admission is still quite far.
You can only apply for visa 120days before your resumption. So calculate it. And yes, February is too soon

Hello...Happy New Year to everyone here.

I’ve been admitted for a Masters in Communications at Grand Valley State University but no funding/ GA yet.

Please I want to know if I should go ahead and pay my Sevis fee for my I-20 to be prepared or wait till I get a GA cus I think a funding/GA status is something that reflects on the I-20 document.

Please anyone with a helpful response...I will
be reading.

Cheers
If you're for fall semester, there's still time, so wait for the GA offer, and you can't even go for your interview until around May, so why the rush. Wait until you get your GA

And your i20 has to be issued before you can pay your Sevis

Thanks for the response.

...but my challenge is how to update the number. I tried filling another DS 160 form but seeing another number.

I will appreciate any tips to this.

PS: @solihp, I will still invite you to have lunch/dinner with my family. Don't ask how I got to know you, because I won't say it until a get a visa. cool
Yes, you'd get another number, so you go to your visa page, after paying another visa fee and you're about to schedule another appointment, you'd be asked for the DS 160 number, then you just update it.

@PS. Oh really, since you don't want me to ask, i won't grin

US INTERVIEW DENIED (16/12/19)
MY WIFE INTEND TO GO HAVE OUR SECOND CHILD IN THE US. They lady asked to see all the price quotes from the Doctor we intended to see in Houston Texas. We intended using WEST HOUSTON MEDICAL CENTRE , Houston Texas. We showed her the total excluding accomodation n flight was $9,200. She took a walk n returned saying that the true cost is $18k, and that the hospital gave us a discounted price. Obviously we had no idea the price was discounted. She went further to say JUST MAYBE IF we could pay the hospital b4 coming for interview... and i told her Hospitals refuse to take money prior to seeing the patient physically.
That's how we were denied.
Anyone had same experience?
Hi, i think there's a giving birth thread on travel section, they would be in a better position to answer your question.

Good day solihp

I was denied this week at Lagos.

The conversation was going fine until the part that I worked in a bank. Needless to say, I'm going for masters in Engineering with full funding.

Me: I worked at ******* as bleep.

VO: A bank?

Me: Yes

VO: That's a hook ( started typing). I can not approve your visa at this time.....

My concern was that I was not given any paper whatsoever to know why the VO didn't approve it.

I have paid for another interview, I am about to choose a date in Abuja, because it has earlier date. Is it possible to reschedule to Lagos after choosing Abuja?

Do I need to complete another DS 160?
Hi sorry to hear about the denial, it doesn't matter if you were given a paper or not, the paper is just a generic paper given to everyone denied.

Also, you might want to post your full transcript so the gurus can determine what went wrong

If you initially chose Abuja, to chose Lagos, you have to cancel Abuja's appointment. You can only reschedule if you're rescheduling to the same location.

And yes, you have a fill another DS form
