andrewza: We not 10 years ahead of you. We building stuff that can compete with the big boys.

And you asume our deffense idusstry is stagnet and with out growth. It is growing and 10 years from now when you have not even reached our 1980s level we would be even farther along.
we don't need to pass through your 1980s.
The technology is already there.
We just need the right partnership with the right countries, our defence industry growth will be accelerated.

snydergp: If Nigeria is on par or on developing your own why don't u produce anything that can match these
southafrican defence industry is ahead due to a lot of factors.
We acknowledge that we are not there yet.
But we will work twice as hard to bridge the gap in the next 10years.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 10:00am On Mar 05, 2013
andrewza: I don't mean in one day has in it took 1 day to get there. I mean 1 day has in from the request for solders till arriving was about a day. In Maili there was a request months ago since last year to be pressis. Yet it still took a long time before boots where in Mali
The reason why it took a long time for intervention in mali was because of the politics involved.
There were a lot of power-play going on behind the curtains.

snydergp: @Auguast u said ur country will soon overtake SA on its weapons development industries in a few years time with the help of Isrealgrin please

The APC's u manufacture are no where near what SA develops and use.

Please confirm to me if Nigeria is developing anything close to this also or is this another state secret
your defence industry is not that advanced so it shouldn't be too hard to overtake you.
With a little help from israel, china, pakistan, and india in collaboration with DICON,the sky is just the starting point.
The next 5-10years is going to be very pivotal.

andrewza: Biased or not he would not lie on his observations.

Where have they siad that. And in what contects. In peace keeping. Yes Nigeria provids a lot of peace keepers. Dose not mean they the best. Peace keeping is not a true test of a milltary.
I did not call them the best,i call them one of the best.
Atleast they are better than southafrica's.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 8:57am On Mar 05, 2013
andrewza: I have mentioned this before but did not go in to detail because I was trying to be nice.

A freind of mine from the 8tg south african infantry battlion (8SAI)(Air assult) was deployed to Sudan and spent a brief time in a nigerian sector this is the deffrenced he found.

SA where using mamba APC. Even his unit who are a hellicopter unit had Mamba APC's

Nigeria where using pick up trucks or forghin APC's

SA conducted base attack drills (testing there deffenses) every day

He never saw one drill of any kind

SA all ways followed proper milltary training such has setting up preimters when dismounting the APC's

Nigerian solders did not act has though it was a war zone

Yes the area was not one with heavy fighting but even so there are things you all ways do in a war zone. It not has though Nigeria where bad solders it was the majority of african solders there.

And yes he personealy came under fire. Mainly from bandits and not rebels. And they left has soon has the SA solders shot back. If not there opened fire with the 40mm MGL. The same one the Amrican mariens are now useing.
who cares?
He is a southafrican,so his biased observation is irrelevant.
According to the UN,Nigeria has one of the best ground forces in the world.
That's what matters.

snydergp: School boy tech not export standard, to small for technology integration, no endurance, no ECW, no data link spec and lastly no platform to protect itself or to deliver payload that's only a few reasons why.

I know its harsh to say but, judging by the nonsense I've been reading here and the way these Mods have been treating me and my countryman I think its time to be my old self.
you and your countryman are slowpokes, and there is nothing you or that your illiterate president, jacob zuma, can do about it.
As for the drones, school tech or not,we don't care.
One thing i can assure you is that in the next five years,Nigeria will start producing the best drones in Africa.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 8:15pm On Mar 04, 2013
snydergp: They don't have the experts that can build a simple UAV airframe let alone a the tech.
you are a slowpoke.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 8:14pm On Mar 04, 2013
Blyss: Nah, just do like China and simply buy a couple and just copy the technology for a domestic built one.
I thought of that at first.
But then the israelis are already in our defence industry.
It would be better if we learn from them directly.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 8:11pm On Mar 04, 2013
snydergp: Whoever told u the SU-27 is a better then the Gripen should kill himself. Go google the tech spec and dogfight capabilities of both, then only can u compare a 3rd generation fighter to a 4.5 gen fighter.

There's a list of the top ten best fighter jets currently in service it do research before u talk sh*t.
lol.
you are very ignorant.
The day a member of the southafrican airforce on a saab-gripeen foolishly decides to go one-on-one against an SU-27,is the day he commits sucide.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 8:07pm On Mar 04, 2013
snydergp: Who cares if u don't want to buy them. You can source your tech wherever you want to. The systems SA use are on par with what Israel have.

There are many buyers of SA gear from Nato, Asia and US(who uses our helmet mounted look and Fire systems, including ammunitions). DENEL competes with Isreal on UAV's

What drones do Nigeria manufacture on commercial scale NONtongue. That Amebo nonsense is school boy tech, our university of Pretoria(TUKS) engineering students can build drones 5 times better then that CAR PORT BED ROOM DRONE called Amebo.

Why do you need Israeli systems transfer if you have so called superior minds who can develop indigenous tech.

This is what a drone should look like
1)Israeli drones are the best in the world.
South-african drones are nowhere near it.
2)our drones are still undergoing devt, but i can assure you in the next 5 years,we will start producing world class drones with the help of marom-dolphin(our defence partner from israel)
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 2:53pm On Mar 04, 2013
snydergp: SA's Latest UAV built specifically for the African market for border surveillance.

The HUNGWE.
why should i buy from SA,when i can get superior UAV from israel.
Nigeria already manufacture drones.
What we need now is to transfer israeli drone technology to Nigeria.
We can buy a few drones from israel and ask them to upgrade our drone technology as part of the deal.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Who Has The Strongest Military In Africa? by solomon111(m): 2:46pm On Mar 04, 2013
Whoever is comparing SU-27 to saab gripeens is having a laugh.
There is no jet on the african continent that can withstand SU-27.

Henry120: For realhuh That would be a major boost for our airforce oh. ***dancing alingo***

How certain are you? How authoritative is your source? I only know we showed interest in the sino-pak multi-role JF-17thunder fighter. Infact the pak's brought in a couple for evaluation during last year airforce air expo.
I heard it from a friend in the air-force.
He said that though Nigeria were still interested in the jf-17 thunder, they are thinking of buying the SU-27 instead.
Politics › Re: After The Abduction Of The French: Boko Haram Threatens Cameroonian Students. by solomon111(m): 12:15pm On Mar 02, 2013
@andrewza
who do you think will buy the f-3 in this day and age?.
Even the f-7 is archaic.
Politics › Re: After The Abduction Of The French: Boko Haram Threatens Cameroonian Students. by solomon111(m): 12:10pm On Mar 02, 2013
andrewza: do you mean SU-35
26
if the pilots and similar training and on a level playing field. f16 loose to both and the SU 35 will have a strong edge on the gripen. The gripen is smaller and a harder target to hit and lock on to but that is it. For the rest the SU-35 is faster, better climb rate, has monverbil, carry more weapons, got has good a radar basically it is better. It all so cost a lot more and maintenance is a lot more.

note that is for the SU-35 russian spec not the older model SU 27 witch though on paper is good has not got has good avionics and ECW/ECM. It would still kill a F16 but a grippen may give it a hard time. Could still win though. The SU 27 also cost more and is heavy on maintenance

The gripen is our main fighter air craft with Hawks providing light ground attack. The hawks do have AAMs and can deffend them selfs

there may be a few cheats, mirage F1 and 3s but all out of serves and up for sale.

Now when you go specific air craft from each county it changes. SAAF gripines use better ECW/ECM systems than any sub ahara African air force and uses 5gen AAMs gives them a edge.

looking at the African countries that operate SU27 the total number of SU27 in Africa is only 24

7 for Angola
8 for Eritrea
11 for Ethiopia

so the gripen is a good choice since Angola is a ally and the others are far away and more liky to shoot each than any thing else
andrewza: to fully under stand why the SU 37 is better

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w64XFQlZi0
I heard a rumour from a fairly authoritative source that Nigeria is about to purchase 18 units of 97%brand-new SU-27 from russia at a price of $180million.
What a bargain that will be.
With our F-7 jets and hopefully SU-27 jets,we will rule the african air-space.
What has university tuition fees got to do with murder supposedly committed by cultist and it is being alleged the murder victim Himself is also a cultist? It is people like you that would spend N90,000 buying blackberry yet continue to spew rubbish when asked to pay tuition fees that is fair and reason compared to standards elsewhere.

Your very attempt to rubbish the man Fashola by asking the question about how much was budgeted for security shows you really do not mean well for Lagos. I won't be surprise that you are also one of those committing crime in Lagos, yet would open your mouth and spew rubbish in NL
how did i miss this one?
Buhahahaha!!
One thing is sure though;
you are learning fast.
Politics › Re: Fashola Blames Okada For Damoche’s Murder by solomon111(m): 10:02am On Mar 02, 2013
This statement goes to show Fashola's sophistication in governance. Here in the UK and even in the US, you often see and hear politicians use an incident to promote a government piece of legislation and to drive home their message why it is highly needed. And it helps keep the issues at the fore front and people continue to discuss it and expose themselves towhat the legislation is all about. It has achieved success for most of these politicians down here and no doubt this is exactly what Fashola was trying to do.

His message about community policing by the citizen is very important. A situation where some particular people will go to the village and bring 15 people back with them to lagos to come squat in the name of doing business, hustling etc and after a few days you can't find them anymore. Yet people are wondering why crime in Lagos is suddenly on the increase. Those that live in that neighbourhood should rightly inform the police and security agencies so they keep an eye on such peeps.

This was how people from Akwa-Ibom invaded the GRA in Benin with their brothers and sisters all in the name of squatting and doing Okada business during the day and the once very peaceful GRA with its lovely greens became a zone of constant robbery!
hahahahahahaha!!!
You are an enormous joke.

pls can i ask you a question.
1)How many units of the swedish saab gripens do you have?
2)I was told the SU-25 will destroy both the F-16 and saab gripens.
How true is it?
3)does SA have any other fighter jets we don't know about?

andrewza: To our Arab friend. Egypt has the most powerful military in Africa but it is largely due to a massive USA aid program that gives them 2 billon dollars in military aid. South africas total milltary budget is around 44 billion Rands witch is just shy of under 5 billion US dolars.
All so when you take the 4 strongest military in Africa and compare them to what threats the facing

Egypt has Israel who are the most power full military in the middle east and one of the strongest in the world, Massive internal problems and in a unstable region

Algeria is in a unstable region but there military is with out a doubt able to crush any threat to them

Nigeria is in a unstable region with massive internal problem along it's coast and in it's northern regions.

South Africa is in a stable region with only Zim a problem. Even so there are no armed groups operating in the region. internally only crime is a problem.
lmao.
Even a blind man can see how biased this post is.

It dose not mention in what field these degreas are in.

And the fact your educted people are leaving nigeria is not somthing to brag about. In SA we don't want them to leave.

Are you talking about this thread or all military related threads?
If you are talking about the latter, then you should know that majority of the military discourse on Nairaland are local issues ranging from deployments, recruitments, hardware purchase, promotions, demotions e.t.c.
Military discourse is broad enough to warrant its own special section.
