God has no business answering prayers because all has been provided. It's like a mother who has stocked the kitchen full of food and her adult children are asking her to cook for them. It is the lack of understanding of the vastness, precision and laws of the universe exposed by science that make us belittle God by thinking of him in human terms eg a father, sitting on a throne in heaven and listening to you, watching you and doing miracles for you. Scientific issues like evolution , survival of the fittest, dinosaurs that lived millions of years ago mean nothing to a bigoted religious mind.

Most of the stories in those holy books eg the bible has been shown to be fictional myths written by clever jews to deceive and control other people. President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Ibinabo Fiberesima, on Saturday debunked an online report claiming that veteran actor, Pete Edochie, had died after falling off a cliff in Austria.

Fiberesima said in an SMS to PUNCH that Nigerians should disregard the report.

“It is not true at all,” she said in the SMS.

A website, Global Associated News, claimed that Edochie died while filming a movie in Kitzbühel, Austria early Saturday.

“Preliminary reports from Austrian Police officials indicate that the actor fell more than 50 feet to his death in a remote area of the Hahnenkamm Mountains while on-set during the filming of a movie.

“Specific details are not yet available. The accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. (UTC/GMT +12).

“Additional details and information will be forthcoming,” the report said.

The false report created a buzz on social media as commentators sought to find out the truth.

In May 2011, another website claimed that popular Nigerian musician, Innocent Idibia aka Tuface, fell off a cliff while on vacation in the Carribeans.

The report was swiftly denied by the singer’s publicists.

Such hoax online reports are not uncommon as faceless persons exploit the anonymity offered by the internet to spread false reports about celebrities, especially movie stars

I think it is a good idea for SSS to let the public know how the criminals were tracked and arrested:

1. It shows openness
2. Scares kidnappers as they know they can be tracked with marked notes, bank deposits and electronic tracking devices.

My only grouse is why this method not been applied in all other cases of kidnapping. I recommend the police set up a kidnap commabating division within te SSS in all states of the country and be more serious with all kidnapping cases.

The West African Examinations Council, yesterday in Yaba, Lagos, said that about 62.03 percent of students who wrote the November/December 2012 West Africa Seniour School Certificate Examination failed the test as only 37.97 percent or 150,615 obtained five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

Blind students performed better than those without sight problems as 46.93 percent of 49 students that registered for the examination obtained five credits including English Language. Blind candidates do not sit for Mathematics and Science practicals in WASSCE examinations.

According to the Head, National Office of the Council, Mr Charles Eguridu, out of 396,614 candidates who sat for the examination, about 47,289 candidates' result, representing 11.04 percent were being withheld in connection with various cases of examination malpractices.


This even as a comparative analysis of candidates' performance in the November/December 2010 – 2012 WASSCE, showed that there is an improvement in candidates' performance.

He explained that in 2010, only 24.16 per cent passed just as 36.07 percent passed in 2011.

Eguridu disclosed that cases of examination malpractices were being investigated, pointing out that the reports of the investigation would will be presented to the Nigeria Examination Committee, NEC, for consideration and final decision would be communicated to the affected candidates through WAEC zonal and branch offices across the country.

His words, "A total number of 49 blind candidates registered for the examination. Out of this figure, 23 candidates, representing 46.93 per cent obtained credits in five subjects including English Language.

A total of 413,266 candidates registered for the examination, out of which 396,614 candidates consisting of 216,600 male and 180,014 female candidates sat for the examination. Out of the total number of candidates that registered, 406,108 candidates representing 98.27 percent have their results fully processed, while 7,158 candidates representing 1.73 per cent have a few of their subjects still being processed as various errors and omissions mostly traceable to candidates are being sorted out by the Council.'' He said these errors were committed during registration and the actual conduct of the examination.

He added, "Out of 161,706 candidates that sat for the examination, 40.77 per cent obtained six credits and above. While, 268,688 candidates representing 67.74 per sent obtained credits and above in four subjects as 309,706 candidates representing 78.10 per cent obtained credits and above in three subjects. A total of 343,352 candidates, representing 86.57 per cent obtained credit and above in two subjects.

Candidates are expected to visit the council's website for their results, even as Eguridu lamented the dearth of qualified teachers, inadequate and dilapidated classrooms and appealed to the federal, state government as well as other school proprietors to address these challenges. He also urged the Ministry of Education to ensure that only schools with the necessary facilities to function as schools will be duly registered.

Astronomers have discovered that the closest Sun-like star, Tau Ceti, is orbited by five planets, one of which is in the “habitable range”. If its existence is confirmed, the planet could be the closest potentially life-harboring world to our own.
Tau Ceti, twelve light years away, belongs to the same G-type yellow main-sequence class as our sun, which is relatively rare – only one in 25 stars has the same properties.
Its planets were detected not by direct observation, but by calculating the slight gravitational tug these as-yet-unseen planets exert on the orbit of their star. Previously, these star ‘wobbles’ could not be clearly separated due to a multitude of other factors, but scientists at several universities in the UK and the US, say they have cleared the 'noise' with sophisticated new techniques and have found five planets.
"This discovery is in keeping with our emerging view that virtually every star has planets, and that the galaxy must have many such potentially habitable Earth-sized planets. They are everywhere, even right next door," said a statement from Steve Vogt, of the University of California, Santa Cruz, who is the co-author of the discovery, due to be published by the reputable journal Astronomy and Astrophysics.
One of the planets, tentatively designated HD 10700e, appears to be in the so-called “Goldilocks zone”, the relatively small corridor where temperatures are just right for water to remain liquid, and for life to possibly flourish. It is two to six times the size of the Earth, weighs five times as much, and orbits its sun every 168 days.
Tau Ceti is three times as far away as the closest star system to our sun, Alpha Centauri. Earlier this year, astronomers confirmed that Alpha Centauri contains a planet, but with a temperature of 1,200 degrees Celsius it is unlikely to host life.
Yet it is too early to believe that HD 10700e is an Earth-like paradise, waiting for us to arrive. It is not clear what it is made of, and what gases its atmosphere contains.
Some scientists remain to be convinced it exists at all.
"They're really digging deep into the noise here," Sara Seager, an astronomer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, told Science magazine, referring to the techniques used by the scientists. "The astronomical community is going to find it hard to accept planet discoveries from signals so deeply embedded in noise."
The astronomers behind the project themselves say the discovery may take as long as ten years to confirm, and insist they published the findings to attract others to studying Tau Ceti.
But the existence of HD 10700e should be relatively easy to confirm, compared to other potential planet candidates.
"Tau Ceti is one of our nearest cosmic neighbours and so bright that we may be able to study the atmospheres of these planets in the not-too-distant future," James Jenkins, of the Universidad de Chile and the University of Hertfordshire, said in a statement.
There are currently 854 planets confirmed by observation outside our solar system, but only a few of those could potentially support life.
