PoliticsRe: Chief Justice Caught Driving On BRT Lane by Solozzo(m): 9:58pm On Oct 13, 2012
This is a minor offence, and the fine easily paid. Was she driving or her driver? Overseas, this kind of offence is not recorded against the person or taken seriously. It is when you do not pay the fine, that is when trouble begins.
CrimeRe: Aluu Community Demands Release Of Monarch by Solozzo(m): 9:28pm On Oct 13, 2012
UncleJJ: E be like say u don kpef ! Do you think if this matter were taking to court - what happened can be categorized as self-defence. No weapons in hand, no criminal records - nothing.

These guys were students - even if there were cultist (rumors) they were still students first - under the protection of the state. And you support the release of a chieftain, who after hearing bout killings in his "community". Did nothing , did not report the case, did not investigate the matter.

Certainly, in the days of our fore-fathers he will held responsible for such actions. Beside's is this so called monarch "arrested" or "detained for questioning".

This is certainly the only way to protect our children - who live home for school to stay in other communities - who are supposed to protect them.

Somebody must pay for this - and if the government feels the village head is the best panacea - fine - i support that decision.
Having said that, the deaths of he Aluu4 was barbaric, lets not lose sight of the fact that these kids placed themselves at risk, going to retrieve a debt armed with a gun, seizing the debtor's laptop and phone. Brandishing the gun before the vigilante group and so on, thereby giving the impression of being armed robbers. They should have ellicited police supports to retrieve the debt especially from a cult member.

I thought these cults were banned in all universities in Nigeria.

Students desist from violent acts focus on your studies, use police assistance as required. Parents warn your children to face their studies to reduce risk of harm to themselves.

The Aluu community has a right to seek justice. There are many law abiding citizens in Aluu, no doubt. The dastardly act was committees by relatively few bad members of the community and as such the entire community cannot be punished and vilified. The police have a video recording of the criminals and should use this to arrest and prosecute. If the chief did not take part in the murder in any way he should be released. Just because he is the chief of the community does not make him liable for the offences of his people. The police should remember to present the matter to court within two weeks of arrest according to the law. They should not demand money from Aluu villagers to release their chief.

dabriggs: Of course they will claim collateral damage.
Nigerias problem is lack of consequences. Fear of the law doesn't exist.Because the law it self doesn't exist either. I am Ijaw and I know what the Nigerian Army is capable of. I don't support Boko Haram or any kind of Armed Militia without a good cause for picking up arms. However I condem in the very strictest sense the murder of innocent people who just happen to be around an area where an IED was detonated. How are we sure it wasn't even detonated remotely? And let's be frank there are instances when some of us did not even know the occupation of our next door neighbour for years.
I have seen the Nigerian Army shoot from kilometers away (Iwofe Road) the day SAIPEM and NNS Pathfinder was attacked by Militants. Anybody walking on the road became a militant by default and was shot. You were lucky if it was your leg they decided to shoot.Odi community is another case on point. Unfortunately, these seeming crimes are not investigated.
My Hausa Brothers claiming Boko, make una avoid war with FGN o! E no dey sweet at all.
Well said my brother. Odi is sad memory of our terrorist Nigerian army tactic of vengeance.
CelebritiesRe: Pictures Of Genevieve Nnaji On A Boat Cruise In Miami by Solozzo(m): 1:46pm On Oct 09, 2012
markovnikoff001: Beautiful pictures by the way, but why do Nigerians women find it hard to wear bikinis? They'd rather wear bum shorts, even on the beach. I have come to the conclusion that it is either they've got sloppy bikini bods or they've got black patches of bikini region stubble. Nothing that a strong gym ethic or a simple bikini wax cannot take care of.
I think it is a cultural. We are not used to that kind of body exposure with bikinis in public
CrimeRe: UNIPORT Declares 7 Days Of Mourning For Murdered Students by Solozzo(m): 11:37am On Oct 09, 2012
While we mourn the death of those students, let us not forget that these barbaric acts are reflection of inefficient police force and lack of confidence of the police to protect. This is waked call for improving police efficiency as well as community education.
PoliticsRe: Ojukwu's Interview Just Before Biafra (VIDEO) by Solozzo(m): 10:59am On Oct 08, 2012
llbhuds: the funny thing is that all these boys(now fathers) keeps on telling their kids different lies all in the name of becoming a freedom fighter. i wonder when the ibos will realized that this man was thirsty for personal recognition then because he was less that 45ys and wants to rule a country.
How old was Gowon when he became head of state? Ojukwu was not a saint but if you remember the genocide propagated against the Igbos (tens of thousands killed by the admin of Gowon), before the war broke out, any reasonable leader would secede for security reasons, just like south Sudan today. I don't know why Gowon fought to bring Igbos back perhaps because they know Nigeria cannot survive without the ND region.
PoliticsRe: Achebe's Civil War Memoir's Invitation For Fresh War — CPC by Solozzo(m): 10:41am On Oct 08, 2012
Well said. Gowon and Obasanjo could be made to account for the genocide against Igbo civilians at The Hague if details of these atrocities can be gathered together.

BrutusOj: Can somebody pls tie Muhammadu Buhari rop huh huh
Yes. He is also accused of being the mastermind of boko haram terrorist attacks against Nigeria. Until thugs like him and IBB are gone, there would be no peace. He is probably trying to use this issue to stir Nigeria to war fr his selfish interest.
PoliticsRe: Awolowo's Daughter To Achebe: We Are Disappointed by Solozzo(m): 11:41pm On Oct 07, 2012
Not sure of the details, but there was clear indication of genocide against the Igbo tribe, even before the war broke out and this was the driving force for the declaration of the Biafra nation. Clearly any senior govt minister like awolowo may have given some genocidal advice,. Awo was not a saint. The family of awo should feel disappointed in their patriarch and apologise on his behalf.

Achebe only weaved history into his writings, the truth we all knew.
PoliticsWhat Should Govt And Individuals Do About The Huge Youth Unemployment Nigeria? by Solozzo(op): 11:06pm On Oct 07, 2012
Hello NL members.

Youth unemployment is very high in Nigeria, and this us driving high crime rare and terrorism. What do you think can be done to reduce the youth unemployment rate in the country?

This is a serious issue impacting on the life of everyone of us, and govt been rather complacent bout it. I remember the IBB regime had a directorate of employment, and provider some supports for people with skills such as mechanics, fashion design and carpenters to get loans and start their little businesses

The rubber industry helped a lot of young people too. What happened to this sector?

Thank you for your contributions. We shall take suggestions seriously and pressure the govt with them

It's hard to understand why many religions see sexual freedom as one if the greatest sins of all. Whereas sex b/w couples is supposed to be a free choice. They even go as far as to prescribe how often and what kind of person you should have it with. I guess the main is when it is forced upon an unwilling partner or one too young to give a valid consent.

PoliticsRe: Jonathan's Speech At The UN General Assembly by Solozzo(m): 3:39am On Sep 27, 2012
solomon111: Blantant display of pseudo-intelligence by some people on this thread, just to fault GEJ's speech.

Agreed. The main point he made in the speech is the one the west had not acknowledged because of group think - that freedom of speech gives no one the right to vilify people's religious leaders and expect no irritability, especially if they had made it clear that they are sensitive to such abuses. Yet Assange, owner of wikileak, is being persecuted by the British and American authorities when he published things they did not like.
Lol.

Pls show respect for your fellow Nigerians. Many of these women are rich and educated. And respect other people's religion. Talk is cheap.

Did u hear what the Sultan of sokoto said about the issue?
IslamRe: Saudi Deports 71 Of The Detained Female Hajj Pilgrims by Solozzo(m): 3:15am On Sep 27, 2012
ouagadougou: Most of the female pilgrims were pregnant and planned to give birth in the Kingdom so as to claim Saudi citizenship. grin
Where is the evidence? Watch your tongue. Talk is cheap
IslamRe: Saudi Deports 71 Of The Detained Female Hajj Pilgrims by Solozzo(m): 3:06am On Sep 27, 2012
How about the consular unit of the Saudi high commission who issued visas without confirming the availability of Muharams for these women. The sultan made it clear that Muharams were not an issue in the past. Women have been going unaccompanied to the Hajj before. If there was change of policy the Saudi high commission should have made it clear to applicants to go with Muharams. The Saudis need to apologise to he Nigerian government for this lapse in communication.

The issue of women being accompanied by a man (Muharam) when going outside the compound is not an Islamic injunction, but a tradition of Arabs as a protection for women. this is understandable in the violent past with no police.
PoliticsRe: $1.4B Lagos-ibadan Rail Project Kicks Off by Solozzo(m): 6:35pm On Sep 17, 2012
Having read the entire thread up to this point, I consider that sometimes the truth can be so bitter. Hence the bashing of the poster who said the project is a Not viable one. He should have been more civil in his expressions giving clear reasons why he thinks so.

Firstly completing the project may be an issue - bribery and corruption
Maintaining rail and trains is costly, may collapse the project later on. It
It has to charge a low rate to compete with road transport to survive. The distance is too short for any economic advantage.
The logistics of eternal delays could put passengers off.

There had been other rail projects that are doing very poorly , how is this going to be different?

Perhaps luxurious buses to support private indivudual who could take them over would have been better. A new ibadan Lagos road is being built.

This money would have been better used to support fhe intercity Lagos light rail project or the maritime, boat transportation project of fashola (but FG will not want to glorify acn) if transportation is a boiling issue the FG considered for the SW. Only time will tell.
Foreign AffairsRe: The Innocence Of Muslims: The Film That Sparked Riots In Libya by Solozzo(m): 4:47pm On Sep 14, 2012
I am not a violent person, but I think the West have themselves to blame for the losses suffered. They know very well that Moslems take their religion very seriously and do not tolerate insult on their religious leaders. Yet the west keep provoking them to anger.

FoodRe: How Enjoyable Is Heaven Without Food? by Solozzo(m): 12:49pm On Sep 12, 2012
Heaven or paradise represenents man desire for the best in life- everyone wishes everlasting life, peace , good health and political stability. Religious groups believe that God had prepared this place for. Their dedicated members and is only accessible after death, so as to keep their devoted. Where do animals and plants go after death? The fact is there is no evidence of such a place as heaven, hell or paradise, but we can create it by ourselves on earth.
FoodRe: How Enjoyable Is Heaven Without Food? by Solozzo(m): 7:19pm On Sep 11, 2012
The concept of heaven and paradise represents man's inner desires for order, peace and tranquility. They emanate from the deep recesses of those who truly desire utopia, but are disappointed by its non existence. We are the only ones who can create this paradise or heaven on earth through science religion and ethics working together. Look at what we've achieved today. To some who lived three thousand Yeats ago this is almost heaven. God had already provided the materials to make heaven here on earth and the brain power to do it. It is up to us to achieve this or suffer and die.

Perhaps after twenty thousand years of development we may be able to say, behold I make all things new, death is no more and a new earth is here.

So my friend OP, u may not be able to eat food after you die but know that after you transit at the grand age 100 healthy years you would be in the dust of the earth and travel with the future generations around the sun, who could live for millennia and enjoy the new world made by man in twenty thousand years time with the help of God given brains and resources. OP, you and and all people on earth today could be said to be the unlucky early birds who would miss heaven on earth, who would be the cold dust oblivious of all pleasures being enjoyed by the future generation, if theymake the right choice to use the resources to create a heaven on earth rather hell on earth. God is super being who gives free choice to all his creatures knowing that the consequences of our choices are there to stare us in the face.

It is up to us if we want to make heaven or hell on earth.
