HealthRe: How Are You Coping With The Current Heat Wave? by Solozzo(m): 7:07am On Mar 04, 2013
indianin9ja: You Nigerians call this hot?! Compared with North India in May, this is like an air conditioning.

This thread made me realize that since coming to Nigeria in 2009, I've never felt the weather to be too hot.
Quite hot in Western Australia, where it gets to 45degrees in summers. The Nigerian heat is tropical with high humidity and that can be sickening with massive loss of body fluids. Summer heat is usually dry heat.

Bidemi1997: Give me the heat over the cold anyday!! It's very cold over here in England. We are spending so much on gas just to keep warm.
Pls people of naija send some of that heat to England. smiley
Laugh out loud. Good one! You got ways to cope. Naija no regular electricity to power fans or a/c. Solar so expensive

Satama: Just back from work and the weather here is SO COLD....the temperature here is -20 degree cry....can't wait to see summer
Terrible!! That's really cold. Where you living?
HealthRe: How Are You Coping With The Current Heat Wave? by Solozzo(m): 6:45am On Mar 04, 2013
Tips to cope with heat waves;

Nairalanders please keep your fluid levels up by drinking plenty of cold water, get a water bottle. Use umbrella and sunscreen cream to prevent sunburns. Get a rechargeable fan. Consider inverters or solar energy to power fans

Climate change is real. The earth 's energy level is increasing so more swings. Hotter in summers and dry seasons, colder in winters, more rains and floods, more cyclones typhoons etc. it's only going to continue, get worse for the next thousands of years.

tonididdy: Heatwave gini?...not here in benincity.its just a normal weather like everyother year.its always being sunny and hot;you and your scientists are just seeing and assuming things...
Maybe you are heat proof. I live in Benin city, and it had been quite hot in the past three days. My car outside (environmental)temperature guage read 33degrees yesterday 3/03/13, but adds feels like 44degrrees.

I have two rechargeable fans, i have a car a/c, drink plenty of water and shower often.
Christianity EtcRe: The Truth About Existence by Solozzo(m): 6:37am On Mar 03, 2013
How does op know about the life after death and the spirit guides and so on? These are dogmas based on myths. A living dog is better than a dead lion, and there is no major difference b/w the animals and humans after death as far as we know. Read Ecclesiates in the bible for further understanding. Myths of life after death are ways humans cope with the anxiety and feelings of sadness when we are bereaved, reinforced by dreams and pseudo-hallucinations of the dead. The true existence is only when you are alive. Your genes live on through your offspring and family members.

5ami77: Thanks for you quick response...at least i now know where to start and can move forward. I need to ensure my marriage is registered i have left this all in the hands of my husband, who i am aware is very busy with work, but we need to get this ball rolling. I have travelled near and far and seen very different cultures, eventhough i am a born and bred british (not english) woman, I am black. Yes I understand that unless I have my own business, it will be very difficult to survive (finding a job) as my sister in law herself has found it difficult to find work as a fellow Nigerian. My husband is self employed and works very hard to be successful in what he does. I am also very adaptable and do not take marriage lightly (with a view if fleeing if things get difficult). Once i confirm my marriage is registered what nexthuh? I tried to call the nigerian hig commission not much help, she just referred me to the website (something i must get used to huh..being fobbed off)huh?

Are there any British woman that have move from here to Nigeria, with not much experience of the life and culture, who can gve me advice or knowelege of your experience? I will find this very helpful although it will not influence my decision as for me it s all about being with my husband and moving forward with our lives.....

Thanks
Quite hard to adapt to Nigeria I tell you. No regular electricity in a hot tropical climate. Expensive cost of living. But you need to start a family. Try for 6-12 months. Keep England open as an option for you and your husband. Good luck.

Symphony007: And there are dozens of kids in nigeria today with superb talents but no one seem to care yet we claim we want to be one of the most industralized nations on earth by 2020. Do the government think we can achieve that with outside investments alone? Let's wake up.
The difference b/w naija kids invention and that of Turere is that his had been tried tested and found to be working. Most of the naija kids invention just end on TELEVISION shows. They also need to have relevant economic value and environmentally safe eg a boy in Tanzania singlehandedly made a windmill from local materials eg bicycle wheel and other things. It produced electricity for lights and charges mobile phones.not as if there was no windmill beforehand but he made it from reading a simple Book in the village library and had not seen one before. He was about 14 years of age then, made several models and became the toast of American inventors. He may have finished his studies by now in the USA and hopes to work in Africa developing energy machines.

ezeuba: Dude you got me rotflmao... Seriously, that would be the best invention so far, if it could scare armed robbers too... LOL...
If you can design the system to include a criminal recognizing capacity, and make the LED lights discharge an electric voltage on the criminal when they approach your premises. With a little innovation and much thinking and hard work one may come with eg link with cameras to detect gun carriers. Then flash with a voltage. That would scare armed robbers.
FashionRe: Male Student Wears Wrapper To School; Wins 20K Bet by Solozzo(m):
The behavior of the students and security guards in making fun and bashing this student indicated that many of them are unaware of our traditional dressing. Many southern nigerian tribes tie wrapper as traditional wear. The only thing is the men tie the wraper in a different pattern from the women. The so called men's traditional dress of nowaddays involving trousers, were actually gerived from Arabian islamic clothing and European pajamas.

See pictures of Isoko men on wrapper as traditional attire; click the following link

Absolutely. How many of us keep their houses clean, painted with good landscaping, paved walkways etc? You can invest a little money, time and effort to beautify your home and compound as an example to Nigeria.

Hahahahaaaaaa!!!

Christianity EtcRe: Do Humans Have The Ability To Bless Or Curse Others? by Solozzo(m):
BedLam: @666, what tricks? a brother would like to know.
It's entirely psychological. Those who are known to curse or bless are people whom the society ascribe such powers. Wizened old men, schizotypal personalities, native doctors, prophets, your father etc. you acceptomg that these curses work lead to their manifestation.

The trick is to live your life like a sage claiming you have special powers, dress oddly, make strange faces, pray weirdly, leave a big white beard etc to look scary, speak strange languages at times. All the while maintain saneness, make some wealth and provide wise advice, if you can, learn some magical tricks. Then people will believe when you say you are MOG, shaman or alien. Make some prophecies. Then your curses and blessings will begin to work
Christianity EtcRe: The Cowardice Of Atheism by Solozzo(m): 7:09pm On Feb 23, 2013
My case is that the mythical nature of God described by most believers lead us to doubt the truth of what is being told. Till We have a better and logical understanding of God, let us see ourselves as mere evolving mortals and live as harmoniously as we can, save ourselves the burden of worshipping a God who does not bother us, and whose existence we cannot clarify.
Christianity EtcRe: How Well Do You Know The Scriptures? by Solozzo(m): 5:27pm On Feb 22, 2013
Ejisz: i have been trying to reson the book of gen 1:1... "in the begining was the world and the world was with God,and the world was God.... It dates back to the creation days and it enables me see reasons why atheists can never be right.... And it awakens me to the task ahead.. Preaching to telling others about God and our purpose in life.
Wrong!! That is the opening verse of john's Gospel. And it says in the beginning was the WORD, the WORD was with God and the WORD was God. This verse emphases the fact that Christ the WORd of God, has a beginning of ancient of days as well as his close relationship with God. The next verse the world was made through Him and he came into the world and the world knew him not. This represents the fact that we do not understand the message of Christ and his divinity in us..

DMainMan: Mönkey saved his life yet some mothers will bury their children alive. Animals are more kind-hearted dan humans.
On point there!

It gets to show that basically man is an animal with murderous and high sex drives.

How many of us would adopt an abandoned baby monkey? Reminds me of Gullivers travel chapter of a voyage to the land of the hyhunninihs; a lfictional tale of a land ruled by horses who looked after Gulliver when he was marooned on the island.

huni_naija: Such terrible news.. The teacher needs to be apprehended and questioned? Did the father of the deceased pay school fees for his daughter to be running errands like a slave?

Shameful! embarassed
Absolutely. This is why gov Oshomoile of Edo state fired a teacher whom was involved in sending a pupil messages of this nature when he paid a surprise visit to the school. All schools should ban this kinfd of indiscipline among teachers. It is unethical. The teacher should face full wrath of the law.
Christianity EtcRe: Some Churches Carry-out Pregnancy Test Before Wedding: Why? by Solozzo(m): 5:15am On Feb 21, 2013
eldoradoxx: As human beings we only punish for known sins by prohibiting then from wedding in church, God punishes the unknown sins like abortion etc . After the lady puts to bed n if they wish, they can come forth and dedicate their home before God after confessing to fornication, but for them to be joined together with ring and all marriage rites, NO way. Infact why do they want to conduct marriage rite over a marriage that has been consummated already? Who says that repentance takes away the consequences of sin? Yes, you have repented and God has forgiven your sins, but the natural order of things must follow, you reap whar you sow. A man gets reckless in early life, drinks and smokes and sleeps around, he later repents but that does not take away the fact that his liver and kidney are packing up, or that he has Aids!!! So allowing people to wed with lady's protruding tummy on the ground of forgiveness by God can only give people more room to engage in it. Like I said earlier even in our core traditions as Africans, pre marital sex or pregnancy outside marriage was/is a taboo let alone christendom.
The church should learn to move with the times. Rules against fornication were universal in old times and easily adhered to even in African societies then because if the social systems then. But nowadays young people are more independent, marry later and need sex life. I don't think it is a useful rule these days. What concerns God with what you do between yourselves as long as both respect each others wishes. If pregnancy arises and both agree to keep thee baby and marry the church should accept or else develop a premarital sex test. Laugh out loud
Christianity EtcRe: Some Churches Carry-out Pregnancy Test Before Wedding: Why? by Solozzo(m): 4:59am On Feb 21, 2013
What concerns God and the church with whether couple have sex before marriage or woman is pregnant. Let who does not sin cast the first stone!

Definitely a clarion call for govt to look into ways uf reducing crime in Nigeria. Kidnapping started from niger delta and Somalia. While extrajudicial killing is a crime it's a manifestation of frustration and the suffering the community is undergoing. Nothingwill come out of this investigation so long as the victims have been tagged kidnappers.
