LagosismyHome: I will respond to your pm.....however i dont see any of those comments as negative feedback. sureb0y: I'm replying this cos you mentioned me and I'm giving the benefit of doubt just in case you misunderstood all I have written so far. Read up the difference between destructive criticism and constructive criticism. I do not condemn anybody... I criticize to suggest a different way of making something better and I always say it that I could be wrong or right. Some close minded people who read that last long post will think I'm attacking particular people on here, shior. The bottom of that message is... No matter how much you know, always leave the door open to learn new things. When you shut your mind out to learn new things and you aggressively shoot everyone's opinion/experience down, you won't learn something new. For example, where I stay... I already have my house rent for next 3 months covered (Technically free) due to some paroles wey I run. I paid for just 1 month, I have the next 3 covered (It is not a pay 1, get 3 promo). Instead of saying lailai, impossible/or trying to prove you have experienced it to show you know better than me which will make me ultimately keep the knowledge to myself. Just ask me politely to tell you how I got it done. Would the world/thread not be a better place if we adopted this approach?
I'm the quickest to condemn and share out indictment. hahaha, na wa o. I repeat, if I say make I condemn anybody for here... e go turn battleground for egos. I have neither the time nor interest in such a thing. Who have I helped? It depends on your understanding of the word "help". I don't need anyone to come and thank me and feed my ego on the thread (again, this is not an attack on anyone). some people send me pms telling me to come here and post because they just want to read about anything new I have experienced. That's the only thing some people need and they'll agree that I have helped them. Some people just want to know how to pass and get into better ranked schools, they'll say my posts are useless to them and they're right! looooool.
Finally, While I am responsible for what I write and the meaning I hope a reader gets, I am definitely not responsible for what the reader reads and the interpretation they give to it. If you don't understand me, simply ask. @sureboy, thank God we finally hear from you, Bro. you fall our hand oo, cos we dey gbadun your motivation, you just come with another write up this time around.. Lol, anyway i hope your good, in my on point do not let the issue of post or no post turn you down on this tread, we should all know that nairaland is just like a community which contain different type of people with different mood and orientation..... When you know what is best for you and what your planing to become you only have to take the useful point that is suitable for your goals.. , everyone of us has purpose of what we are planning to become in life, God we always lead us to the right path |

sureb0y: IMPORTANT NOTICE!!!
This is for those still going for interviews. I have decided to use my spare time to give you some tips. Please note that these tips are random, you must have read most of them elsewhere and/or they'll probably mean nothing to you. I'll just give them regardless. Pay attention and ask me questions if you don't understand; you can also criticize.
1. I noticed many people leaning towards the VOs during their interviews. Like they want to get super close to them to be properly seen/heard. They didn't stop there, they were making many gestures with their hands, speaking with shaky voices and toooooooo freakkiinnnggg robotic in their speech. Before you read tip number two, visit google and type: How to look confident for an interview. Concentrate on what you find on body language and try to master the art. You know what they say about first impression? It goes a long way. Stand confidently, keep your hands where they're supposed to be, and look at the VO as much as you can. Let them know you're unfazed by their appearance/presence.
2. How to speak. Darn, the VOs are humans!!! They're just American citizens doing their jobs. They are not celebs/politicians/horrible bosses that should terrify you. Before the interview starts, prepare yourself in such a way that you feel like you're going there to GIST with the interviewer. Don't think like you're going there to answer questions and supply all the right answers and PASS like it's some test/exam. Be relaxed. You're simply going there to gist them about your plans, when you get there. Speak in the most relaxed way possible. Like you're gisting with your friend. KEEP IT SIMPLE! Don't explain unless they ask you to. keep your answers brief and straight to the point, speaking confidently all the way.
3. Hope for the worst. Imagine yourself getting "the most wicked VO whose hobby is to make applicants sad and depressed by denying them visas. Think up all the reasons in the world for this VO to deny your visa and plan on how to prove to him that you actually deserve the visa. Think up the worst questions possible and prepare for it. Once you prepare for the worst and you're confident that you can handle the worst case scenario, trust me... you'll be good.
4. Don't put yourself under too much pressure. In addition to (3) above, have a plan in case you get a denial. Don't brag to your friends that you're going for an interview thereby putting yourself under pressure to succeed so as not to embarrass yourself. Think about what you're going to do in case you get a denial. What are you going to tell people? what are you going to do afterwards? Have this mindset: See a denial as getting the biggest tip ever! to know all you need to correct to get the visa the next time. Have a positive mindset, and just be happy.
5. I can offer mock interviews via bbm. Before we begin, you'll tell me the level of difficulty you want. If you want me to go very strict and ask you very very tough questions, I'll do it. Trust me, I'm a very very good critic lol. If you no get mind, no make me go hard on you o. So I don't rob you of your confidence. I'm not a VO and I can only ask random and probing questions. you'll feel confident after my mock interview and we're going to discuss how you can improve.
6. Finally, Don't leave everything to God. Don't go there underprepared and think God is going to take control. HE WON'T!!! Go there and be prepared, be in charge. it's only a 5 minute interview. Go there to gist with the VO and let him know your plans to go to the U.S and come back home.
I hope this helps someone. Good morning.
PS: I type too fast, I write a lot in so short a time. I apologize to those who hate long scripts. Forgive the grammatical errors, I'm not gonna read this again before posting. Thank you for this tips sureboy , it's useful, i like the word "gist" really motivated |

wowchild22: Having read some transcripts on this forum, i compelled myself to share mine too.
All glory to the almighty, My visa was issued this morning in lagos. I was already praying to be interviewed by a female but as I entered the interview hall, I realised that the GIRLS were not smiling but there was a guy at counter 4 who was sharing visas especially to families and he was cheerful too, luckily I was intervied by him.
Me: good morning sir vo: no response vo: pass me your passport and i-20 me: i did vo: how long is your program of study me: 30 months, which is 2 & half years vo: types forever vo: what & where are going to study me: i will be studying culinary arts at the associates degree at prince george's community college vo: long silence, keeps typing vo: so why didnt you choose a culinary arts school instead of just a college me: (i wasnt expecting it but i was somehow prepared) I initially planned to study at le cordon bleu in chicago, but the franchise which is originally from france shut down all their operations in the us last december. vo: didnt your school tell you that you would need to write an exam before you can start the course me: (i was like alaiye, lemme school you) No, i am not required to write any exam except for the english placement test which i will be writting at the school and introduction to culinary arts which are major prerequisites. vo: i'm sorry the system is a bit slow this morning me: (i form smile) vo: and this certificate would help you when you return me: yes, very well sir (that definitely wasnt a question) vo: blah blah blah Isolo (the only thing i heard was ISOLO, and he passed me the white paper and my i-20. that going deaf thing is true lol)
Although i wasnt as confident as i think i should but i maintained eye contact even when he wasnt looking.
In all, I was asked only (5) five questions and i answered them to the best of my knowledge, however i did my research and i prepared. in fact i did 21 days fasting & prayer, and i will testify in church because it could only have been God's doing.
I have almost all my siblings in the us, so i was bothered about them seeing me as a potential immigrant, but God did it for me without sweat.
Anyone going to maryland or prince George's county by month end can dm. Congrat.., you got it. There are many peep scaring of applying to community college , are you reading now... |
