ExxonMobil, Chevron Keep Mum International Oil Companies (IOCs) operating in the country have said that the issue of relocating their headquarters to the Niger Delta region as directed by the Federal Government, does not arise, as they already have offices and operations in the area. Although, American oil giant – ExxonMobil and Chevron, could not comment on the issue, other IOCs noted that they have never really relocated from Niger Delta region, therefore the issue of relocation does not arise. The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, had directed the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, “to engage” the IOCs “on the way forward” over repeated calls for the relocation of their head offices to the states where they produce oil from. Most of the IOCs in Nigeria were thought to have their headquarters in Lagos, South West of the country, hundreds of kilometers away from the oil-rich Niger Delta region. Experts and stakeholders believe that the Federal Government order should go beyond relocation order to solving militancy and insecurity in the Niger Delta region. Responding to The Guardian enquiry, Shell’s Media Relations Manager, Precious Okolobo said: “I can confirm that the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) has its headquarters in Port Harcourt, River State capital.” Also, the Deputy General Manager Media & Public Affairs, Total Nigeria, Mr. Charles Ogan, insisted that Total has its headquarters in Port Harcourt, saying the issue of relocation has nothing to do with the company. “We are still very much around in the Niger Delta region. We did not at any time leave the Niger Delta and we are not planning to leave,” he said. Reacting to the relocation order by the Vice President, Senior Vice President, Centre for Values in Leadership (CVL), Rasheed Adegbenro, stressed the need for the Federal Government to provide adequate security of lives and facilities before enforcing the relocation order. He said: “Until the Federal Government is able to totally tackle the issue of militancy in the Niger Delta, it should not force the IOCs to engage in risky activities. One needs to understand why the oil companies left the areas. If they shut down operations due to militancy, you cannot force them to come back. They are here to do business and not to die... http://m.guardian.ng/news/relocation-of-iocs-we-have-offices-operations-in-niger-delta-say-shell-total/

Mar 14 , 2017 • By Talha Oladimeji. Men of the Nigeria army have reportedly stormed an Assemblies of God Church in Yola, where an internal feud has degenerated into huge fracas. The crisis rocking the Assemblies of God Church is said to have taken another dimension, hence , armed soldiers were forced to disrupted the church service in Jimeta - Yola , the Adamawa state capital. According to The Guardian, the pastor of the church , Rev Patrick G Waziri , said that the military and the police invaded the church premises located behind St Theresa’ s Catholic Primary School at about 10 :00 am and blocked the entrance to the church with their vehicles denying members access to the church. He alleged that a leader of the church, who belongs to Chidi Okoroafor ’ s faction, brought the soldiers and threatened to return next Sunday to cause more havoc if the station pastor refused to handover to him. However , the spokesman of 32 Armoured Brigade in Yola , Major Adamu Yahaya Ngulde , confirmed that the command received the complaint of what he described as illegal operations and that the command had set up an investigation panel to uncover the soldiers that carried out such illegal duty.

Abuja – Some Nigerians have commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for its current fight against corruption. They said in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the exercise was making impact, most especially the commission’s arrest of former public officers. Dr Fredrick Fasehun, founder and President of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC),lauded the EFCC for beaming its searchlight on finances of some individuals that had once held public offices. Fasehun said the arrest of the former Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr Andrew Yakubu, and the recovery of 9.8 million dollars and 74, 000 pounds from his home, was a “breakthrough’’. Fasheun, who is also the National Chairman of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), also commended the final forfeiture of over N66 billion linked to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke to the Federal Government, as ordered by the Court. The UPN chairman urged the agency to continue the anti-corruption fight, but cautioned it against selective arrest. “EFCC has a lot to do by bringing to book those it thinks have undermined the constitution of this country and looted the treasury,’’ he said. Similary, Dr Yunisa Tanko, National Chairman, National Conscience Party (NCP), commended the agency for its fight against corruption, but advised that it should deploy scientific means of investigating and recovering money allegedly siphoned from various treasury across the country. He also advised the agency to ensure timely arraignment and prosecution of anybody found to have looted the treasury. Tanko, who is also a member of the National Peace Committee, however, said that arrests of some public office holders were long-overdue, and implored the anti-graft agency to beam its searchlight on all nooks and crannies of the country. He said this had become imperative because in spite of the anti-corruption drive of the present administration, Nigeria still ranked high among the corrupt countries in the world. While commending the EFCC for the anti-corruption fight, Tanko, however, said that a cross section of people in the country believed that the commission was still being selective in its operations. “EFCC has a lot to do to earn the respect of the society because people still see them as acting out the master’s script,’’ he said. Mr Saminu Abdullahi, a trader, also commended the commission’s fight against graft, but described its manner of arrest of suspects as “crude’’. Abdullahi also said that in spite of the agency’s best efforts and capacity to track down offenders, it lacked the modern technique of operations. He advised the EFCC to exercise its discretionary powers within the ambit of the law, without violating human rights in its operations. He also urged Nigerians to support the Acting Chairman of the commission, Mr Ibrahim Magu, to succeed in the commission’s anti-graft war. “We must all support the patriotic efforts of the Acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, at tackling corruption, so far. “I also am appealing to the Senate to confirm his appointment to enable him to do more,’’ the trader said. Mrs Abigei Nze, an Accountant, also lauded the EFCC for doing “ a good job, so far’’, especially its arrest of highly-placed former public officers. Nze said but for the bold operations of the EFCC, “the nation would have been consumed by corruption’’. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/03/nigerians-react-efccs-anti-corruption-fight/ |

These days, it seems like as the sales of smartphones rise, the issues found on these devices rise. Thankfully, some of these common problems can be fixed without having to take it to a technician. Smartphone is Running Slowly This is the most common smartphone problem. This problem is most of the time caused by keeping apps running when not in use, installing unnecessary apps that choke your device’s RAM storage and saving numerous files on your device which congest your internal storage. Solution: Close apps that are not in use, uninstall and disable unnecessary apps, free up your device’s storage and clear your cached data. If the issue still isn’t resolved you can download diagnostic apps like Phone Doctor Plus and Z-Device Test to help pinpoint the problem. You can also perform a factory data reset to wipe your device clean, leaving the software of your phone the way it was when it was first turned on. Bluetooth Issues Most Bluetooth issues are either pairing or interference issues. These can occur over time, sometimes due to the build of cached data in the ‘Bluetooth share’ system app or due to interference from sources like microwaves, wireless speakers, certain external monitors and LCD displays, Direct Satellite Service (DSS), power sources like power lines or stations, 2.4GHz or 5GHz phones or wireless RF video. Solution: You can try switching off and switching on on your Bluetooth, if it is malfunctioning. If it still doesn’t work, go to Settings> Apps> Systems Apps> Select Bluetooth Share> Clear Cache. The steps vary for different smartphone brands, but the important thing to know is that ‘Bluetooth Share’ is a system app and should be sourced from the system apps of your phone. For interference issues, either switch off the source of interference or take your device away from it. For pairing issues, you should make sure your device’s discoverable mood is on, get away from or power down likely interferers and make sure the devices you are attempting to pair are in close proximity to each other. If these don’t work, you can try powering your phone off and back on and limiting the data shared between the devices, before trying the above suggestions again. Cracked Screen or Immersion in Water We all know water and electronics are not a good mix, but unfortunately accidents happen and devices suddenly get immersed in water or have a hard impact with the floor when they mistakenly slip. Solution: To avoid such accidents, a sturdy mobile phone case and screen protector can help to protect your phone. Though relatively expensive, it’s a worthy investment because they can help prevent cracked screens and water entering the phone’s ports. Battery Problems Battery problems are also fairly common in smartphones. The common battery problems are battery drain, slow charging and ‘system-hogging’ apps. They are mostly caused by users’ abuse. Solution:. To solve this issue you should start by stopping unnecessary apps from running and desist from using defective or wrong chargers to charge your phone. Google Play Service is a feature on most Android phones that drains a lot of battery, so you should clear the cache at least once a month to stop it from draining your battery. Also, you can reduce your screen’s brightness; shorten your screen timeout; and reduce the frequency your widgets and background apps update. Phone or Apps Crashes This is indeed a frustrating problem. It can be caused by bugs in your apps, too many apps open at a time, too little memory on the phone etc. Solution:. If your apps crash, you can clear the app data from ‘App Info’ or ‘App Manager’ (depending on how it’s named on your device). Also, learn to clear your cached data and avoid opening too many apps at a time. For phone crashes, you can try troubleshooting your device for random restarts, troubleshooting apps on your device for random restarts, remove the case and external battery of your device for a short while, or performing a factory data reset on your device. MicroSD Card Not Working On Your Smartphone There are a lot of microSD cards in the market, but unfortunately not all of them will work on your smartphone. That can be frustrating. Solution: There are mostly two types of microSD cards that you’ll come across – SDHC and SDXC. Before you buy any of them, you need to confirm the one which your smartphone supports. In terms of speed, most smartphones support these three primary speed classes of microSD cards: Class 10, UHS-1 Class 1, and UHS-1 Class 3. There are also UH-2 cards but only a limited number of mobile devices support them. You should watch out for these labels when buying microSD cards for your smartphones. MicroSD card type (SDHC or SDXC) and capacity (GB or TB) are labeled on the card. The three speed classes above also have logos to signify their minimum speed. Class 10 is the letter C with the number 10 inside. UHS-1 Class 1 and Class 3 are the letter U with a 1 or 3 inside, respectively. Finally, you may also see a I or II label on the card, which references a UHS bus speed.

By Dennis Udoma UYO-Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has directed the International Oil Companies operating in the Niger-Delta region to relocate their headquarters to their States of operation to mitigate tension in host communities. Osinbajo, gave the directive at a Town Hall meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital on Thursday during continuation visit to the region to dialogue with stakeholders. The Acting President urged the Minister of State, Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu to begin the process of engaging the International Oil Companies on the way forward to actualize the directive, saying “I think it is the right thing to do”. He disclosed that, the Ministry of Petroleum is also working with major oil companies on several initiatives including; working on illegal refineries to establish modular refineries to achieve the desired result. On the Federal Government amnesty programme for ex-agitators, Osinbajo re-iterated the federal government stand noting that, the Ministry of Petrolum and Amnesty office are working with the state governments of the region on providing the benefits to young people in the states. He emphasized on the importance of the Ibaka deep Sea port project, saying that, the Federal Government is seriously committed to its realization. According to him, “Indeed as a matter of fact, in the 2017 budget there is already a provision for the Ibaka port. There is already N1billion provision. It is a matter we take seriously to partner with the Akwa Ibom State Government”, urging state governments in the region to attract private investments in their domain in order to create employment opportunities for the youths. Earlier, Governor Udom Emmanuel appealed to the Federal Government to integrate Akwa Ibom indigenes who were left out in the amnesty programmes, as well as stressed the need for the reactivation of the Aluminum Smelter Company (ALSCON) at Ikot Abais local government area of the state to create more opportunities for the people. He said, “With facilities we have in ALSCON, we cannot see it anywhere in Africa; from the services, communication to power generation you can create seven profits centres”. Governor Emmanuel, while commending Prof. Osinbajo for the visit, further solicited the support of the federal government for the completion of the maintenance, repairs and overhaul (MRO) facilities at the Akwa Ibom International airport to assist repairs of aircrafts assuring that, any financial assistance for the completion of the MRO will be refunded in no time from revenue generated from the repairs of aircrafts. |
