My friend's Passat had warranty or so we thought. He bought the car from Lanre Shittu Motors in Surulere. They always come to pick up the car when it is due for maintenance. When the gear packed up, they took the car to VW Center who invoiced them for N1m to change the gear box. The car was left fallow for 6 months while the owner was contemplating the next action. The bottom line was that VW center refused responsibility claiming they did not import that car. Lanre Shittu claimed to have bought the car from Car link and Car link is a sub dealer with VW Center. It was a roadside rewire that eventually detected that it was the gear control unit and not the gear that had issues. Then it was too late. VW Germany had to intervene by compelling VW center to go and pick up the car and work on it. All they did was to sell us the gear control unit at a discounted price but then the car's connecting rods was also bent and they overhauled an engine of less than 20000 kms with 2 connecting rods already gone bad just a year after purchase. Passat has been at the receiving end of our fuel hence they are few on the road today. Ghana has Premium fuel, so I believe you guys will have limited issues concerning these cars. Hyundai has 3 yrs warranty but we dont know what the owners are going through with the reliability issues of the cars. |
Beautiful response. From my friend's viewpoint, he might be right. Nothing compared to a new car. But it is not true that new cars dont visit the garages. Take a walk to Vw, Bmw and Benz dealerships and you will find a lot of these new cars gathering dust in their garages. Their owners are regreting their choice of cars. There was a guy who bought a brand nee passat years ago and one year later, the auto gear packed up and vw center gave a bill of N1m to change it. It was a long story. In the end, the car was sold for 150k after 4yrs. There are many Nigerians with such experience and they are hurting |
Comparing BMW X6 2007 model with Hyundai Santa fe 2014 is like Shark vs crayfish. That is true. To process a crayfish is very easy compared to processing a shark to be able to cook and eat it. Same goes for the BMW and the Santa Fe. Why should I spend a fortune to maintain a BMW when I can get less for more? Even the tyres at the rear is big money. No spare, runflat tyres dey fear our roads well well. Those potholes that have sharp edges will disgrace run flat technology. I tend to believe that we take ownership of such marques to an extreme. I rather own a car that does not give me sleepless nights like my Range Rover Sport and my friend's Santa Fe than owning a BMW or other brands which gives their owners stress. ++ |
Yes o, the easiest car to fix. No headaches and nightmares, just follow the rules. Range Rover has an online resource center where you pay as little as 5 pounds to access the technical support. You can join even as an independent garage and from there, Range Rover repairs is made easy. Those spending tons of Naira to fix their Range Rovers must have allowed the Ride to wander off the rules and the owners have to pay a lot to put it in order. A poorly maintained range rover will cost a lot before it is restored but once the rules are engaged, bye bye to stress, financial and emotional. |
Yes o. Land Rover is my passion too. It is easy to maintain unlike the BMW that listens and act like a robot. |
That is true. The ignition coils for a range rover is not the same price with a Rav 4. But the coils in a Range Rover can last up to 70000 miles while a Rav 4 coil must have been changed more than 5 times before it gets to 70000 miles. Based on this comparison, are the coils not the same price? |
b1327:The Santa Fe is brand New. Just 7000 kms as at the time of the foto. But the issue is owning a 2007 BMW X6 that will drill holes in your account and owning a 2014 Hyundai that is just the latest wakapass. bellong:No one bothers with proactive maintenance because the garages will take advantage of you. There was a garage who told their client that his brake pad is 45% low and therefore they changed his Range Sport front and rear brake pads for N120,000. So much for being proactive in this country. |

I used to follow a friend of mine who was a member of BMW Club of Zurich to their meetings. Every Saturday, they all go to Germany which is next door, to stretch their machines on the Autobahn. Driving the M5 on 260kms, he noticed a Porsche Carrera gliding towards him and zoomed past him. Fear catch fear. That was in the late 90s. The bottom line was that Emil Frey SA, the BMW dealer was not a point and kill garage. You dont have to be rich to buy a BMW. The only big deal is the insurance and the road tax. The possibility of buying a BMW and paying 20 francs per day as a lease option was rampant and anyone who can pay 600 sfrs a month can buy even the M series like my friend did. He later sold the car because he was always paying the police, fines on a daily basis and in the end they took his driver's license from him for overspeeding. So how can owning a BMW here in Nigeria become another issue? |
Just change the oil and put new engine oil. Start the car and after 5 mins, pour the MSP into the oil chamber. 1 bottle for 5 litres oil capacity and 2 bottles for 2 gallons. |
I have a customer in Abuja who begged me to please contact the sister in Lagos because the Coscharis boys are building a house with her money. There is always an issue that requires money. It is true that the owners wait for something to happen before they repair but how can the owner go for routine maintenance with the mindset of garages around us who see every BMW owner as a conduit pipe to improve on their financial status Coscharis inclusive. Honda Place fixed a customer's Acura MDS for N209k for fuel related issues. They changed the plugs for 40k, oxygen sensors for 120k when they know that cylinder misfire on an Acura is caused by the low octane fuel being used on the Acura. If Honda Place nor sabi, then who go sabi. |
Good inputs. Why then must the repairs of a BMW be prohibitive if it is that good? Does the idea of being a big boy mean that you should make your BMW mechanic a joint signatory to your account like Lejuen 3 once suggested to me concerning his Range Rover Sport? |
Bros na your head correct pass for this world. there is nothing i need to say again but that the Ops should tell his friend that a brand new BMW X6 is over 20M. and please let him drive your german machine on 3rd Mainland bridge on a light traffic day and feel the torque or he should just visit www.auto.aol.com and see the cars in the class of the BMW. you cant evern compare a korean man to a german man. there are on different lane. And comparing a 2007 car to a 2014 car is a misplace comparison. OPS i fit slap that your friend if he talk am for my presence self, i go come apologies say na mistake i do. And you sure say no be you dey do this comparison self codedly Hmmmm. Please dont slap him. He is basking in the euphoria that he bought another brand jeep. His previous car was a Hyundai Tucson that I have been telling him to give to his 18 year old daughter cos the Tucson was a baby jeep. But my preference anyday is that I will rather buy a 2007 X6 than to buy a 2014 Santa Fe, Prado, Pilot or Murano. I will also choose a 2001 Mecedes E240 than for me to buy a 2014 Camry, Accord, Kia and Hyundai brands of cars. But the reason my friend gave is what I am still pondering and which Homguy also stated is the maintenance cost. The cost of keeping BMW on the road for 365 days is very prohibitive while the Santa Fe will just walk by. Like a guy once told me, the cost of acquiring a BMW is not a major issue, it is the cost of keeping it on the road that matters. Let the owners of BMW give us the review of the BMW. The cost of maintenance, how many days in a year, the BMW was on the road....... Any one in the house? |
Hmmmm. He said that he can add more than 10 phones to the bluetooth in the car while the BMW has only four slots. That the Santa fe has a three seater while the BMW has just 2. But the reality on ground is that the Hyundai is becoming the no 1 best selling motor brand in Nigeria today while the BMW is a luxury that is becoming very prohibitive in terms of maintenance and the cost of putting the BMW on the road is becoming like a hot knife in a butter, woes and griefs. I have been driving this BMW X6 for sometime now and I was about to let go of my Range Sports but decided to quickly wake up from my short trance. I have also driven the X6 M and I say that driving that ride is something else but the cost of keeping these BMW s on the road is something we need to discuss. Why are Range Rovers, BMWs, Mercedes Benz s ownership becoming a burden instead of a thrill? Is the Government now justified giving us Hyundais, Nissans, Innoson and Peugeots, instead of BMWs, Benzs, Lexus, Range Rovers to reduce our burden? Why is there no fuel for these high end cars? Why must we wait for 2016 when Dangote's refinery commences operation before Nigeria can now produce Premium unleaded fuel? Ghana uses Premium and yet they dont have half of the cars that is in Lagos. Why, o why I think that it because of these reasons, my friend could boast of his new car when the BMW is seated majestically. Lion na Lion whether e dey bush or e dey Zoo but nowadays, we don dey confuse........ |
With this new automotive policy, the Government is trying to redirect our orientation from getting the best of things in life. A friend of mine just bought a brand new Hyundai Sante Fe for N7m and he is comparing the motor to a 2007 BMW X6, that his motor is better than the machine. Please I want everyone to comment. I rather buy a 2001 Mecedes E class than buy a 2014 Hyundai brand of any shape.

type t1v. Pureguard works well with it |
Will get back to you today on that issue |
Can you drive to Benin? I will get someone to look at the car for you |
They cleaned your air filter instead of changing it, they put Mobil atf instead of ATF Z1, they put any spark plug on your car instead of the original number meant for your vehicle, what about the fuel filter? Is there a check engine on your dashboard? Look for those mechs that own obd 11 scanners even if it is a hand held and then we will know what is wrong. Dont let mechanics without a scanner touch your car again, even if they wave to you, dont wave back. Cars have gone high tech and they have to move with the tide or they will end up with the 504s that they are used to. let me have the number written on the plugs they changed. |
Transmission fluid are to be changed once in a year or every 15000 miles or 25000 kilometers. As for your second question, change your air filter. Let them scan the car to know the fault codes in the car and do change your transmission fluid. |
I did reply. Let me send again |
Thanks bros. There was a guy in vi who fix big cars. He charged a friend of mine to fix a/c related faults and a/c packed up. He later fixed the guy's suspension issues for 1,1m and when the guy cried to me after the suspension failed, the guy told me that the electronics in the range has collaspes. That same range was fixed for 50k and till date no suspension issues. There are guys who boast about where they take their range to. So they pay thru their nose. Like you said, it is better to order the parts. With paypal now active in Nigeria, it is easier to order ur parts and give it to us to fix. Imagine spending 500k to buy bumper and headlights of a Range. God help us. |
The Range has been over pampered from birth. It was bought brand new and as an occasional Sunday Sunday ride. It was involved in an accident and the passenger side was shattered. The owner wanted to buy a new one and let this one go but we counseled him to make it new instead of buying new. So with the job done, it is really worth it. Every dime. The only problem is that our local suppliers are too greedy. There was no time to order the parts from the UK. It would have been very cheap. The bumper and the headlights alone took N500,000. My gray hairs increased by 30%. But so far so good. Feeling good is good business, at least for the proud owner. |
Nothing in the interior except dvd and changing all the bulbs to white. It gave the Range a heavenly interior feeling. But the total renovation was hovering around 1.2m. |

Range Rover Sport Overheating If you want to take care of your car properly. it is vital that drivers understand the way to maintain the car‘s engine. The majority of vehicle cost is really expensive. Which is undoubtedly a small fortune. when compared with other brands of vehicles.Engine capabilities is normally on a more fantastic range regarding speed, responsiveness ,acceleration, plus braking . you know the feeling if your car has been running hot. An overheating engine is more than a bummer, it will leave you on the side of the road if you do not take good care of this good killer,it will be an expensive repair bill.Let us pray that traffic breaks enough for us to get some air flowing over the radiator so that engine temperature needle will go down just a little bit. there are only a few things that commonly cause an engine to overheat regularly. Possible causes: –Engine coolant level may be too low. –There may be a vacuum leak. –Cylinder head gasket may be bad. –Engine’s drive belts may be broken or slipping. –There may be a leak in the cooling system. –The electric cooling fan may not be coming on. –The ignition timing may be set wrong. –The engine may have mechanical problems. –Range Rover Sport is over loaded or driven too hard. In some cases your engine may be running fine, and may seem to be cured of its overheating problem except on extended drives or long sits in traffic. Maybe this is the case with your Range Rover Sport check out your Range Rover Sport yourself so that you know what is the matter. You may find that the engine runs fine but gets very hot while driving. What is this problem? It usually occurs after moderate to extended periods of driving. You should notice steam coming from the hood or smell coolant. The overheating can ruin a trip. If you are driving and notice the temperature gauge is all the way up to the “H,” your Range Rover Sport is “running hot” and overheating will occur shortly. It causes damage to the engine each time overheating occurs. Range Rover Sport overheating problems can be costly. If you want to avoid the delays and costs overheating causes, follow these tips. Read on to know what you should do when your car seems ready to overheat. 1. Electric Cooling Fan Failure An electric cooling fan which isn’t coming on can cause your engine to overheat. When your Range Rover Sport isn’t going fast enough to ram it through from the front, the electric cooling fan draws cooler air through your radiator. You can test this by letting your car idle long enough for the engine to heat up. Keep an eye on your temperature gauge if you’ve been having an overheating problem in traffic. When it starts creeping into the danger zone, look under the hood to see if your electric fan is running. If it’s not, you’ll need to figure out why. There are two usual causes to this: One is Bad Electric Fan and the other is Bad Radiator Fan Switch. 2. Clogged Radiator If your Range Rover Sport has more than 50,000 miles on it, your radiator could start getting gummed up. By flushing your radiator every year,You can avoid this and other problems associated with old coolant. There’s nothing good about an overheating problem. You should try to fix the problem as quickly as possible if your engine is running hot. A hot engine can do damage to itself, even if you aren’t going into a full overheating. And also you should Check your oil regularly to be sure you are providing adequate lubrication to your engine, everything you can do to reduce heat buildup helps! 3. Low Coolant By a large margin, the most common cause for engine overheating is simply a low coolant level. Your engine’s cooling system relies on coolant to circulate and remove heat from the engine .Heat will build up and your engine will overheat, If you don’t have enough coolant in there to do the job. No amount of water will help if you don’t have enough coolant in the radiator to transfer that heat. By far, the first thing you should do if your engine seems to be running hot is check your coolant level. 4. Thermostat Not Opening The most common symptom of a failed thermostat is overheating at highway speeds. Your engine may be able to stay cool at low speeds because it’s not working that hard, and therefore not creating as much heat. But at highway speeds your engine needs lots of coolant flowing through. If the thermostat doesn’t open, there isn’t enough flow to keep things cool, and you’ll find yourself looking more like a steam ship than a sedan going down the highway. 5. Broken Fan Belt There are still lots of engines out there which have a fan belt to drive the engine cooling fan. If you see a belt attached to your fan, you’re in this club. The good news is your repair is always cheaper than the electric guys. You can replace your fan belt easily if it’s broken. It’s always a good idea to keep a flashlight, supply of water, and brake fluid in your car. Having these items on-hand and knowing how to check your antifreeze is really necessary for your Range Rover Sport. If your Range Rover Sport continues to “run hot”, do have a qualified mechanic diagnose the problem. Overheating is an issue that should never be ignored and should be addressed promptly. |
