Hmmmmm. I am blushing. Amen and thanks. Point of correction, I am a Bini man and I have learnt from when I was a little boy that you dont have to cheat to be a winner. I enjoy driving my Sport and I see no reason why others will be deprived of the same thrills. That Sport has taken me to so many places and favours too, hence the renewed interest to spread the good news that any one can own a Range Rover without having a deep pocket. We have fixed some cars that cost more than a typical Range Rover repairs yet they will say TOYOTA is easy to maintain. Elizade fixed my Sister's N3.5m 2009 Corolla in 2012 for N2m in Abuja and till date, the car is like a scrap, yet Toyota is easy to maintain. Thanks Bros, will give you that information tomorrow.

It is supposed to be so. Oga takes the New Sport while Madam takes the Evoque. That way, no civil war in the house. But if the man gets greedy and gives Madam a CRV while he is using the Evoque, Boko Haram's insurgency will be a child s play.

The number on the plugs not the quantity. The supercharged spark plugs is not the same as the hse and i want to find out if they used the correct plugs. The engine is what matters most. All the other faults are just 2 hrs job. The genuine parts you requested for are available but you have not told us the small city where the Range is and you also need to call me

Templa: Good job sooper .....which engine oil type do u recommend for 2005 highlander?
Synthetic oil. 5w 30 or 5w 40, ie, Total q9000, Forte

Hmm, that was a lengthy sermon. In summary, why do Peugeot recommend Esso ATF? Because TOTAL does not have the ATF for their cars. Until recently when they introduced fluide at 42, Total had the fluide 11d that I used in my Renault 18 in Paris in the early 1990s. Go through their website, they dont have any other ATF except Dexron 111, so how can Peugeot recommend ATF from TOTAL that does not have the ability to produce it. I worked with TOTAL for 2 years and in the service sector and I remember when 408 came out, there was unease about the oil it is expected to use. When you listed all those statistics, I was busy searching for the latest brand of Peugeot and all I saw were those government cars, the ones Government buys for their personnel. I have been servicing the 408 of the Nigerian Customs in Abuja until recently and I know what I am talking about. The TOTAL synthetic oils listed in their US subsidiary are not in Nigeria neither the ones in the French subsidiary. And you listed 0w 40 as some of the manufacturer's recommendation. Does TOTAl sell 0w40 in Nigeria? Can a Mercedes Gwagon actually use the Q4x4 15 w 40? You are a guru when it comes to Peugeot repairs, but we study the dynamics of failed engines in the country, why motorists pay a lot to fix their cars meanwhile in other climes, it is easy come easy go. Because there are no standards, we accept whatever junk that are being imported. Why should TOTAL Sticker be on a 408 when they dont have the oil in Nigeria to service the car? These are the list of TOTAL oils.
Classic
Q5000 20w 50
Q7000 15w 50
q 4x4 15w 50
Q 9000 5 w 40.
Have you seen a TOTAL Q9000 5w 30 in Nigeria? This is not Nairaland policy, it is what we observe that we bring to Nairaland as you have just done. TOTAL does not bring it to Nigeria but they send down the 5w40. So those cars listed to use 0w 40, and with TOTAL sticker pasted on it, which oil does the manufacturer wants them to use in Nigeria? 20w 50 synthetic........

My owner's manual requires that i use 5w 30 castrol oil but now i am using Ge platinum 5w30 gf5. 2 dexos and all the cars that have used that oil are now singing a new song. I have seen what energy conserving means when you use a good oil. It was on a honda accord v6 and we used Oando syn and the owner confessed that he has never seen his car perform like this with improved fuel economy

An example

Alert! CONSUMER ALERT!

XTREME 2000TM Super Premium SAE 10W-30 Motor Oil, API SF
MG Lube, Inc. New York, NY
Purchased in: Maple Shade US Gas, Maple Shade, NJ
Date of purchase: 6/2/2012

NOTE: This product or company is not associated or affiliated with Martin Lubricants, owner and manufacturer of the Xtreme® automotive oils and lubricants.
The labels for XTREME 2000TM Super Premium SAE 10W-30 Motor Oil claim the oil is a 10W-30 motor oil meeting API SF. PQIA's test results for this sample show it is not a 10W-30. The analysis also shows lower levels of additives than would normally be expected for an SF engine oil. In addition, the product tested has a very high level of silicon which is commonly associated with abrasive contaminants.

Use of this oil could potentially cause damage in modern automobile engines.

Although the label on this product says "For all foreign and domestic cars," API SF is an obsolete specification that is not recommended for engines built after 1988. The label on this product fails to give adequate warning to consumers about its limited use.

The Op is right. Following the manufacturer's specifications is the norm. But can you advise someone in Kano or Maiduguri to do so? Using 5w 20 is good but it is not all of these oils that are synthetic. What the Op should tell us is if we are to use synthetic or conventional oil. I saw a litre of Mobil 1 made in America, and their best grade was 5w30 with GF 5 and 2 dexos. I dont see that with the Mobil 1 being sold in Nigeria. So when a Car manufacturer recommends Mobil 1 in America that has anti sludge protection, and you now bring it to Nigeria and because the Mobil 1 label is pasted on the car, you use Nigeria's Mobil 1 without the anti sludge protection. Is the Manufacturer's specification ideal? Ikenna also knows the politics with TOTAL and Peugeot. Can the oils in TOTAL Nigeria's stable work very well with Peugeot's new brand of vehicles? No.! Go through TOTAL's website and you will find strange engine oils that they claim is being sold here but actually, we have never even dreamt of it. So they expect a 408 to use Q9000 when there are superior oils from their stable in France that is recommended for the 408. Is the Manufacturer right? Oil has grades and 5 w 20 and 5 w 30 are limited to 35 degrees. 5 w 40 or 0w 40 can give an engine a protection of 50 degrees hence all our local players are producing the 40s oil but when you have the gf 5 and 2 dexos oil type, a 5w 30 gives 50 degrees protection. That is the type of oil that the manufacturers recommend and not the conventional and semi synthetic oils that are being sold in Nigeria.

Everyone should please check the authentic Mobil 1 and compare it to the one sold in Nigeria. There are many oils that are being branded as 5w 30 and they are not synthetic. Notice the 2 dexos logo on the can, that is the symbol of high quality oil. A similar product is being sold in Nigeria and it is beautifully packaged. GE platinum 5 w 30, 2 dexos, gf 5, now available in Lagos

Nixon55: @Sooperrescue... are you saying that the LR3 is not a good buy? Is it really more expensive to maintain than the RRS?
I was thinking of buying the LR3 over the RRS because of the 7 seater capacity. If it not economical, maybe I would go for the MB GL450 which is also a 7 seater. What are your views?
LR3 is a good buy, a go anywhere ride. It is not as selective as RRS and so it is not expensive to maintain. It is like the younger sibling of the Sport HSE. and the parts are a little on the lower side compared to Vogue, RRS.

TSAT: so bearing in mind my purpose for wanting to have one of them, will you say I go for the LR 3 or 4 HSE and which year. I don't want to keep sending guys like you constantly to the bank;except for minor regular service when due. I no wan change my account name to your own-smiley -smiley. Tnx
Go for the LR4 but avoid the 2010 model. It is a 5l engine but no much difference with the LR3 except the dashboard and the exterior look. You nor need to change the account name to mine, just make me a co signatory to the account, that is all. On a more serious note, even in the US, the owners there are wary of the Dealers because they make more mistakes and the charges are high. You will spend money but not the high roof many owners are currently building with mechanics. If there are no issues with your bushings and air suspension, average cost of maintenance per year will not be more than 150k comprising of two oil changes, octane boosters, battery. Cest tout.

Bizibi: rrs is getting popular by everyday,i just hope it can make me love her and sell of the ml Mercedes
I remember a friend of mine bought an ML350 and he will always take it to Ikoyi Club where other guys with Acura MDX, Pathfinder and BMW were the happening guys. That was in 2009. Suddenly, the money bags felt threatened and rolled out their Armada, Range Rovers and G wagons. My guy felt undersized and oppressed to the extent that he no longer park his car in the Golf section but at the General car park where Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson and Rav 4 are holding court.. Where do you place yours? You dont need to love her first, you need to have her, caress her and when she is rubbing your back and your ego, then you fall in love and when you see your ML, you start wondering if you ever had that Jeep.

Same engine with the Sport HSE but different issues.
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 7:37pm On Sep 03, 2014
No problem with the Range. Only problem is to follow the specifications of the manufacturer which we are all guilty of.
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 3:33pm On Sep 03, 2014
jodeci01: @ Sooper, Sorry for the mix up am actually referring to the distance covered(80k miles in 2 years) and not speed
And are you saying both HSE and Supercharged models should be daily drivers to avoid issues? Thanks
Yes, everyday movement. Even driving short distances with the RRs is not advisable. I am always having issues when I am leaving Lagos with the RRS. It is only when I get to Sagamu that the nozzles will open. A V8 is meant for daily usage. It is like those who will buy a mercedes and keep it at home for Sunday use only for them to travel to Europe and the cab that they will enter is the same Mercedes that they over cherish back home.

cne010: Yes the guy has a phobia for flying so anywhere he goes the Range goes, He does Lagos to Abj like no mans business. He has a GL450 and C300 also but he stuck with the RRS he bought it with 18k miles and has over 90k and believe me he hasn't changed anything aside his regular bi weekly servicing the last time.
That is what I told TSAT. Cant keep a supercharger at home. It makes guys like us very happy, smiling to the bank(s).
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 8:24am On Sep 03, 2014
[quote author=cne010]My Mechanic drove me home once in his friends Supercharged RRS that's the most fun in 4 wheels I have ever had. The Rig doesn't have a red line on the tachometer when he puts his foots down it Revs to as much as 6000 to 7000 RPM so just imagine the Torque.
The RRS isn't a SUV that should be parked his friend has already kept 80k miles in less than 2 years. He services bi weekly cos he does 5k miles in 2 weeks my Mechanic says that's how a Range Rover should be driven.

My Brother, that is what I have been trying to tell TSAT. Cant use a Supercharged as a weekly ride. The RRS will start misbehaving and it takes guys like us to put him back to order.
Jodeci01
Yes, 160 kms per hour on an HSE is normal and I have done that many times on the Lokoja Okene stretch of the highway. The Range Rover Sport changes to either the 5th or 6th gear at 140kms. Even last Sunday, I was cruising at 140kms on third Mainland Bridge in a Range Rover Vogue and that too is another story entirely. There was a time when I had a Mercedes E240 and was doing a normal 180kms per hour, restricted by my tyres when a Toyota Corolla 07, zoomed past me. I was shocked and angry and on another day, same speed, another Corolla did the same thing, I got to Abuja and when Issues came up with the car, I gave it out to someone and I entered Night Bus back to Lagos. Bottom line, you cant build a house in Banana Island and live in Sango Ota while your office is in VI.
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 8:45pm On Sep 02, 2014
TSAT: Tnx for your response.
The SUV will actually be a Sunday- Sunday tonic or occasional traveling(and I am a good cruiser when it calls for that) If you understand :-). I actually have other vehicles I use as daily commute.
What are the things that will make me send you smiling to the bank if I decide to settle for the supercharged??
You have already answered it, Sunday- Sunday Tonic. A 4.2 L for an occasional ride? It is not Pathfinder or QX56 that you want to buy o. Anyway, if you intend it to be an occasional ride, just fill up your tank whenever you abandon it and ensure that the battery is always charged.
Car TalkRe: Range Rover Sports Club by sooperrescue(op): 5:34pm On Sep 02, 2014
[quote author=TSAT]Hi there,
Pls,what year model of the supercharged (if you say its better in all round maintenance when compared to the HSE)between 2006,2007 and 2008 will you advice I go for?
Tnx alot

Supercharged Range Rovers are in a world of its own. When you drive a supercharged, driving a HSE is like being in a nightmare. But driving a supercharged entails a lot of responsibility and either you take it up or you let guys like me smile always to the bank(s.) That is why if you are not the type that derives pleasure in cruising at 180 kms per hour, please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you are used to. Choose a HSE. 2006- 2009 models are all the same.
