ghettodreamz: The emboldened is just a mere assumption and a wrong one if I must say. Having a se><ual relationship causes a lot of distractions and makes one lose focus once in a while. Many at times, there are several other issues that comes with having an affairs that might cause unwanted distractions, at least to some certain extents.

Ever wonder why some Indian students are said to be brilliant kiddos and smart ass when it comes to IT and other related study endeavours? It's simply because a lot of them are so dedicated to their studies, and their society, culture, and country as a whole, didn't encourage such an emotional attachments between persons of the opposite sex at youthful age. And their social life is on the very low end, except if such persons have been engaged or betrothed to each other with consents of the two families involved.

So, having a se><ual relationship does influence one, and tends to cause unwanted distractions to getting things done or achieving some goals if not well-managed. On the other hand, different strokes for different folks.

Nigeria is a monoeconomy.....we rely only on oil money.

Infact, the only oil economies/countries that can afford free education are either

1.Having populations less than 15 million people.

2.Have strong industrial economies.

I want to let you in on a little secret....I am not here to defend Lagos per se.....rather I am here to show you the cold reality.....the reason why Nigeria could afford to subsidse education for your parents and grand parents was because back then not everyone went to University. When LASU was set up in 1983, it was free. It also had less than 2000 Students then. Now, it has far more than that.

And to fund just 2000 of LASU 's students now....we need 1.2 bn naira....just to fund each and every one of them. Lagos can only generate N450bn naira....and the money must be spent on the 9million or more residents of Lagos. You see the problem?

Note that it isn't just LASU.....it is the whole country. I fully expect fees to rise in all universities across Nigeria because the budget is no longer sufficient to meet needs of every university. This tells me that either Abuja spends 30% of the budget on education, or we remove the fuel subsidy.

I really wish you read the articles I linked to.....and I must tell you that I wish that fees were as low as 10,000.But the cold reality is that thanks to our poor economy.....our oil addict economy, and the rising population of Nigerian students....it becomes imperative that we must contribute to the funding of our unis.....or else the poor will forever be at a disadvantage....graduating from ill equipped universities, while the rich benefit from world class foreign universities.

You Nigerians always refuse to see the big picture. The world is far bigger than it was ten years ago.

If you didn't get it.....that is why ASUU went on strike last year. TO ASK for EXTRA MONEY (N3TRILLION) for INFRASTRUCTURE AMONG OTHER THINGS . They were told that there wasn't enough money for what they were asking for. Now here we are.

So simple logic dictates that if the Federal Govt does not have the cash for new investments in universities....how WOULD THE states have the cash?

Also, I repeat, it takes far more than the 500bn Lagos gets every year to fund a world class university. Plus the fact that it takes N60000 per annum to fund a Nigerian student.

We have a funding problem.....and the oil money is NOT enough.....nor is the revenue states generate. Unless you want fuel subsidy removed.....and the cash spent on universities at both federal and state level.

Free subsided education is not possible.....not with a population of 160 million and an oil output equal to 8million strong United Arab Emirates.

You see the problem?

i doubt if 9ja is as populated as d USA and stil its govt provides adequate necessary palliative measures 4d less prviledged in d country,same goes 4d UK,so y do u sim so bent on bein d devils advocate 4 d lagos state govt.

Univerisities cost money. Billions of dollars,not naira.

Am sorry, but you have to realise that if things remain the way they are, the poor of whom you passionately defend will forever be at a disadvantage to graduates from foreign univerisities, whose numbers are growing in this country.

Tertiary education.....quality one....is not cheap. Ye cannot provide facilities on just N45,000. Perhaps if ASUU had been sucessful in getting the N3 trillion last year, LASU would not have needed to increase fees.
