IamAnderson: common misconception.... they get ticks and fleas but it's harder for you to see them. most times the dog will just be scratching and you will think it's nothing until the thing spreads. before I started using that chemical on mine, I noticed he was always scratching but I thought it was normal until I removed like 15 maggots from his skin. I still don't know where he got them from, they were everywhere under his fur, even his head too. I bath and groom him regularly so I was confident that he was fine until my eyes where opened. the next day, I hurriedly rushed to the vet and got the chemical. the best thing is to prevent all those things because you won't notice them on time because of their fur
I'm sure those maggots are from bot flies happens a lot especially when your dog comes in contact with sand or leaves that contains their eggs.
mhd5757: So this friend of mine lives in a deserted area where there are a lot of bushes and there are very few houses in the area, the area is also known for robbery attacks, so he decided to get dogs for security, I told this guy that is better to go for adult dogs, he even got a good deal from somebody who wanted to sell him 2 vicious big 1 yr old Alsatian dogs at a very good price but he said no! That he is afraid, the man selling the dogs and myself told him that we will guide him through in getting used to the dogs, we will even take the dogs to his house and guide him through, we assured him that on that same day, those dogs will be able to recognize him as their master but he refused.
Later on he went and bought 2 pitbull puppies of 2 months, and kept them, then just a month after he bought the puppies, he was robbed by a 3 man gang, they clared him out, they took his smart TV, decoder, all his cash, his phones, wrist watches, even his 2 puppies, the funny thing on top of it, they even asked him where he kept the dog food he bought for the puppies when he showed them, they packed all of it along with the puppies, they forced the guy to enter his car where they put in everything they stole and drove him to the ATM machine, then they withdrew as much cash as they could and left the guy there.
It took him hours to report the crime but uphill now, they haven't found these people that robed him and I doubt they are going to find them.
But what is it with Nigerians and puppies sef? How can you expect a puppy to guard your home, everybody wants to buy puppies, these puppies will not grow over night, it will take time for them to grow so is it not better to just buy an adult dog? If it's about getting the dog to get used to you, that one is small thing na! I bought my vicious rott/gsd mix bitch when it was already grown at the age of 1yr and on that same day she got used to me.
not everyone get dogs for security while some people like to train their dogs themselves.

mhd5757: Is very hard to sell dogs these days, too many broke and greedy people around, it's either they are broke and want to get the dog for free or they have the money but they are just too greedy. If you notice, nobody even buys dogs on nairaland anymore. They all want a pic pure bred pedigree imported from abroad but they can't afford it. So if you post a dog for sell, their excuses are usually the dog is too expensive or it's quality is too low.
Nigerians never know what they want, they are just a bunch of confused fake people.

you are very correct about the shoe stuff, when I got my dog shoes, socks, slippers, clothes always gets destroyed but I set traps for her, catch her in the act and discipline her now she's no longer into destruction she's into digging now I'm not bothered about the digging
since it's still a puppy it's better to feed dry or canned food if you don't have much to spare you can opt for cheaper food like bingo. my dog feeds exclusively on binggo (feed raw on Saturdays) although I bought canned food when I first got her but they was the first and will probably be the last time
Baroba: These are African palm civet cats babies ( not related to cats by the way), unless the mum is not to be found keop them otherwise return them..
They are not dangerous, but they are territorial, be prepared to have urine all over your house, that's how the mark there territory..

agboedeh: Yea,but a malinios is nt more effective than a kangal in guarding the yard.A trained kangal would attack under orders and would stop if asked to.Let me remind u that kangal are fast and can actually chase down thieves.They are nt as bulky and lazy as other big dogs.Most kangal are actually tall and lean with heavy muscles. They carry out all guard functions ,they jump,they chase,they are loyal,they are smart and will fight to the death.I would love to know other functions that I am missing cos like I said,we are all here to learn.
