Probably would have to try out out banks regarding this BTA/PTA thing when another juncture arises
Be that as it may, we are spiting the same thing on GTB
They were even nice embarassed embarassed to tell you to use your cards unlike been introduced to their in house black market Aboki undecided undecided
Wish they could issue Pound dominated cards seeing I too have a GBP account with 'em
Would really smooth things over
my pounds dom account is operated by firstbank and firstbank has a branch in london. They can also send u a form, u fill and scan back, they'll transfer the money to ur uk account, all as stated by someone here.
i just called gtb to know there own process and if they offer bta, though i operate my naira account with them.

ochukoccna: Black market of course!
Forget that bank thing jo!
Seeing banks direct you to their in-house black market Aboki angry angry sad sad when you need BTA!
When I was travelling I was like WTF when GTB Opebi pointed me to an Aboki yet here I was, student who had legit travelling documents dreaming of CBN rates
I roused myself to reality and sought out the black market dudes in my hood
BTW, I'm thinking of using my Nigerian bank card here this week and want to have an idea of what the black market rate is like
This is to help me calculate how much Nigerian banksters creamed off me when I do my transactions angry angry
lol. The bank thing works.
You walk into your bank with your visa and ticket and ask for bta or pta.
If they have, they'll give you sharp sharp

Gtb on the other hand stopped it. I called them and they said so.
That i would have to use my cards to withdraw from the uk

Infact as i have a pounds account and as it doesn't have an ATM card of any type, that i must withdraw it, change it to naira or dollar, create an account of that type and deposit it in the account.
I just said in my mind, did this girl really go to school to suggest such crap when i told her that i am going to the UK and that the uk spends pounds angry

Emirates would be your best bet for the cheapest one way tickets wink
But you go wait tire for Dubai grin grin
BTW, Wakanow is a good site to compare tickets across different carriers
However use stealth mode [private window browsing when on the site]
I learnt all those flight and vacation sites use the cookies left on your system (if you use regular normal browsing) to track returning site users and give you even higher ticket price quotations undecided undecided

@ thread, BTW, anyone with RECENT and CURRENT pounds to naira rate i.e. if you are buying?
I just checked, seems worst sad
One way is around $1,100 while return is around $1,600

I just gotta book return grin

Stealth mode has been on since last 3 days cheesy cheesy wink

Blackmarket or bank?

I called first bank this night and they said i should call back during the day time that it can't be accessed now.

Am not sure of blackmarket

ochukoccna: Students on programmes that last beyond 6 months are rarely asked about evidence of a return ticket
I was in 9ja about 3 months back and wasn't asked at the point of entry to show such during my return though I had travelled back into the UK using an Emirates one way ticket because I was short on cash then as I didn't book on time and had crazy ticket prices been thrown at me a week to departure undecided undecided
Tickets of 200 and 210 was now 260k! angry angry
In hindsight, if I had booked on time, na KLM (or Air France) O! grin grin
A tip I leave, BOOK EARLY ENOUGH
BOOK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
Ok, am seeing things here. I think i would book a one way now as i am booking very late.
Then book a return for December vacation on time when am in the uk

I wish to travel this week and the cheapest airline i got is Emirates.

A return ticket is good if you intend coming back within 1 year. That is basically it.
If not, just book one-way.

alizenbohr: Good day house ( Justwise, spikeC, HudsonBanks)

Please I'm new around here & I would love to get some crucial info.

I applied for and got admission to study a 1 year Post-graduate course in the UK without making any requisite payment (Cranfield). I have also received my CAS number in May to resume 2nd October.

By providence I just got awarded with a full scholarship by an International Oil & Gas Co. covering tution, accomodation and monthly upkeep.
The challenge is I haven't started my application for a student visa.

I would like to know the:
1) Process involved in getting a student visa.
2) Required documents.
3) Possible time duration before its done.
4) How much the process would cost (estimate).
5) Does the 28-day wait for accounts ish apply to me?
6) Any other helpful info.

Sorry for the long post, but there's so much I need to know.

Thanks for your anticipated response.
1, 2, 4: https://www.gov.uk/tier-4-general-visa
3: Normally, a maximum of 3 weeks.
5: If the company is a multinational, you can apply with the sponsorship letter, else the 28days thingy will be required as they would have to deposit the money in your account
6: After going through the link above, if you have any other question, just post them here

sukber: Hello fellow Nairalanders, any1 booking flight to Heathrow ryt now should prepare to pay a lot of moneyyyy, oboy tickets don over cost. Got a 17 hours Emirate flight at last, but has to go 2 dubai 1st. Cheii!!
Advise to every1, while waiting 4 a response, book your flight. Or else
I dey tell you. I want mad yesterday.
Emirates is the lowest this week at approx 270,000 for a return ticket. All of them has a stop for Dubai just like you said

I'll book tomorrow, hopefully it doesn't skyrocket.

BTW, let's discuss this here: https://www.nairaland.com/863688/nigerian-students-uk-how-survive/69

Your school must be able to give you extra 2 weeks after your normal start date. You just have to ask if it's not stated on ur cas

paradisewoods: Please help me, my 28 days is over and I have completed my online application, I tried booking appointment at Ikeja ,under visa type I chose PBS tier 4 and the earliest date for that is 28th of august. should I just choose standard appointment instead of PBS tier 4 because the earliest date for standard appointment is 19th August. Please I cant wait till 28th August because my school is resuming soon. Pls help
Nope, you should chose tier4 so they notify ukvi for interview

When is ur school's first and last resumption dates?
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part2 by spikesC(m): 12:47pm On Aug 17, 2014
tobee: When I selected standard appointment, there was space for19th at Ikeja but when I changed it to pbs tier 4 , it changed to 27th for only one person. So I took that one and then applied for Standard appointment for my kids and hubby since theirs is dependant visa. I sincerely pray this is okay because after hearing that you were denied visa because you applied only one week before resumption, I got worried.

Although, I also have 6th October as my latest time for resumption on my CAS.
then you have nothing to worry about if you have up to 6th October
TravelRe: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part2 by spikesC(m): 12:06pm On Aug 17, 2014
tobee: Justwise, Spikes and others, pls advice accordingly, tier 4 appointment at Ikeja seems to be difficult to get. The earliest I can get is 28th August, while for VI is 19th August, what do I do? My school resumes 15th September. It's urgent plssssssss
Your best bet is Abuja. Or you try Ikeja

First of all, you don't really need to include the downloadable archives as bitbucket has provided that feature already. I am afraid you might not have been updating the archives on your subsequent commits, so i am forced to download the whole thing just to run the most relevant files, which includes the official readme file that can't be found in the archives

During your interview that first time, were u asked why u were just applying. Sorry for all the story, lol, just a bit worried about my situation.
Yes, they stated it.
Yes, i paid 60% of my tuition then to obtain a cas and no they didn't ask me about it during the interview

Jeffflo: Embedded Systems and Server administration? Make sense.

I am a fan of certifications myself; the oyinbo people that require this skillset require proof of say you know wetin you dey do.

In my next post, i shall deal with vendor-specific and vendor-neutral trainings that should open the gates for the newbies.
The oyinbo believes more in experience and proof with what you've done, not really your certificate

I'll be waiting looking out for the post. I, myself, might have to beef up my resume with a few that doesn't require much time to acquire

Try and get an earlier date for the test. If ur 28days count ends after the test is done, try and pay on the morning of the 28th day, book ur appointment for that day and submit on that day.

Sept 15 is the first resumption date, so ask the school for extra 2 weeks and submit at abuja. See you in greenwich cool
