Roland17: Rice was our player, his hunger and drive kept us going.
Moving to the base was good in providing the balance but once again, it did not change or trigger our offense. Your comment about Havertz buttresses my point about Trossard/ Havertz substitution. The substitution as well as the reshuffle |

Jodera: He was not wasted there, instead we're just playing one man down in midfield because of anonymous Jorginho
Tbh, second big game in a row where Odegaard and Jorginho are underwhelming. Infact this is Odegaard's worst game this season
But I guess you'll see it as Rice struggling again Playing that no8 is not best for Rice. He is a player that wants the ball not mark spaces. Jorginho affected Odegaard not Rice. Odegaard needed a dominant DM who can hold the ball and drag players away. Without Partey or Rice, Odegaard will struggle. |

Roland17: Not doubting that but I would rather Trossard than Martinelli at this point. We saw Martinelli throughout the game struggle to make any impact with possession. He lost a ton of balls, did not help Zinny and don't get me started on his final balls and decision making. Ok let me accept but you will change mouth. Na so their rivalry be. Today you tomorrow me. |

Roland17: Fair, but it wasn't what changed the game for us offensively. He did a better job defensively while inverting but it wasn't his substitution that triggered the draw. It wasn't the trigger but it contributed. The trigger for me was Rice moving to DM and Havertz shadow marking Caicedo and Enzo taking them out of the game. This gave Saka room which he lacked all game. |

have seen enough to conclude that Trossard is ahead of Martinelli, for me at least. Against Man City Martinelli came as a sub and scored too. Honestly it's easier coming as a sub. Especially if you're a winger. |

Roland17: Not really. It wasn't Tomi's sub that changed our fortunes. Infact, we were still struggling after ESR/ Nketiah came in..
Trossard/ Havertz sub was the game changer in shape and tactics and the equalizer buttresses it.
Rice deserves a shout out... He never stopped playing. Tomi provided a lot of steel inverting which is quite different from the technicality of Zinny. We needed that steel more. |

Jodera: Lol, how can you agree Rice played his best game against Man city but claim it was only second half that made it so?
The only player presently in arsenal who can make a second half game his overall best game is Havertz and that's because the bar he's set so far is too low. Why you dey talk like say you no know Rice? It's just surprising that na only you dey see say Rice no really play well against Man city in the first half
Moreover, Nobody says it's an easy role but as a top club what we wanted is someone who can replicate and even better what Xhaka did for us last season. So far, Rice did it in one match (and there was no excuses) more than Havertz whom you've been writing epistles on just to defend him.
And for that your quote saying Tomi was playing where Rice was. Make I just pretend say I no see am. I don dey suspect say e be like say you no really watch that match What I meant by the bolded is that Tomi came in as a left back and Rice was playing on the left. During the second half, Tomi was quite comfortable playing high up the pitch, this was possible because Rice dominated that side of the pitch from midfield to defense. And let me reiterate that I did not say Rice was poor in that first half. Rather I said his second half was better than his first half performance. There could be several reasons for this, and I have attributed it to the difficulty playing that role. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 2:42pm On Oct 20, 2023 |
Jodera: Lol.... We have three Midfielders ( Odegaard Rice and Jorginho) and out of the three Rice was the one that played very very well with the other two not really excellent in the first half but you think just ONLY Rice's effort would be enough for us to dominate a Man city's Midfield coached by Guardiola. It's not as if those Man city's Midfield were even excellent sef with the way you're making it sound, it was just more of our duo in Odegaard and Jorginho being underwhelming. Odegaard with his rushed passes and hasty decisions while Jorginho with his safe passes and recycling.
The only reason why you felt Rice found his mojo is simply because others found their mojo in the second half and played up to his level. It's that simple.
Meanwhile, I never knew Rice was the second coming of Xavi
I still insist, Rice game against Man city Is the best game he had played in an arsenal shirt so far. If you watch him against Man u (which was actually his best game before this one), then you'll know the kind of quality he exuded that day against Man city. It could be his best game but it was the second half that made it so. It's not like he was poor in the first half but he really struggled to stamp his feet like he usually does. When Rice began dominating the game in the second half you saw how we pegged Man City back like they were Stoke City. At a point it allowed Tomi (playing where Rice was) to even take a high line which led to the goal. By the way I am not arguing that Rice shouldn't start (God forbid), all I am saying is that no 8 role on the left which is a hybrid of DM and AM or simply a LCM is not an easy role. |

Jodera: Lol... Try and watch the match again if you can.
He got both his groove and everything in both the first half and second half If he did we would have dominated the first half. Lewis and Bernardo were controlling the midfield as Kovacic was pressing. When Kovacic dropped deeper for fear of red card that was when Rice found his mojo. |

Jodera: Tbh ehh, wetin you list up there for Havertz is something Odegaard does on a normals for us and he's still scoring and assisting. Let's us don't make it to seem as if Havertz is doing something new or extraordinary for us. It's good he's doing those stuff but he should add the goals and assists along with those attributes. Afterall he's not a DM.
I still feel Havertz as a sub should be coming in as a CF not Midfield. Though I've not really watched subsequent games (I stopped at Everton game) so I wouldn't know if he'd improve in his overall play sha. But all the whole times he played Cf here, he offers something compared to when he played Midfield. While we don't and should not compare Havertz to Odegaard, Havertz to me have played better in midfield. He has been very good in marking spaces and blocking opposition passing lanes. That job is not easy. Rice struggled a bit playing there against City and only improved in the second half when Martinelli came on. |

LordAdam16: "I stand with Palestine" does not mean an implicit endorsement of everything Palestinian extremists do.
There is a spectrum of people on the "I stand with Palestine" camp as there are on the "I stand with Israel" side of the fence.
I acknowledge Israel's right to exist. As a people, they've gone through more than enough tribulations. After all, the US, Canada, Australia were snatched from the natives. And it's not like the Caucasians ever had historical claims to these lands. I'd have preferred if the Jews were given a parcel of land in the New World. Rather than placed smack dab in the midst of folks who hate their guts and further giving the same folks legitimate grievances. It was completely avoidable.
That said, we've had the Arab-Israeli wars. The Arabs lost and they've climbed down their high horses. Egypt was the ringleader for the first three wars. It refused to recognize the State of Israel. It does now. Israel had to return the Sinai which they won squarely to secure the recognition.
This is the template that everyone is asking to be replicated. No one is talking about the 1947 UN Partition Plan anymore. Israel can keep the land it won in the first Arab-Israeli War. But there is no way Israel will be allowed to completely evict a people who had lived on a land for 2000 years. NO WAY. Nor will it be allowed to continue its occupation and neo-apartheid policy. There has to be a compromise. The compromise is a State of Palestine within its 1967 borders. Hamas and many right-wing extremists in Israel do not want this compromise. Hamas does not want Israel to exist. The Israeli extremists do not want a State of Palestine to exist. Neither is acceptable.
October 7th is a reminder that the sooner this solution is brokered, the sooner we can begin to move past this revolving door of carnage. Hamas is like any of the dozens of militant groups sprawled out around the region. In Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen. They're opportunists. And Israel's continued occupation is the primary source of their legitimacy. End it and I can assure you that within one month, President Abbas of Palestine will launch an offensive against Hamas. And he'd ask for help from US, Israel, and Western allies. And many Arab nations will send money for the task. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, UAE. In fact, like every microstate in the region, he will ask for an American military base with thousands of American troops.
So when folks say "I stand with Palestine", many are advocating for a better way to solve the crisis. A solution that starts with recognition of the State of Palestine. A solution that ends the continued persecution of the Palestinians. A solution that guarantees that October 7 never happens again.
I'll implore you to stop gaslighting people who chant "I stand with Palestine".
-Lord I'd really love a Palestinian state where everyone can live and practice the religion without fear. Israel gave Hamas freedom to rule Gaza. They pulled out of Gaza. Gaza has a coastline area and border with Egypt. They can do legitimate trading and improve their economy. But Hamas won't allow for peace. I stand with Israel to eliminate Hamas. |

I don too miss our matches so I no know how to grade Havertz for that our Midfield so far(whether he's acclimatized to the role).
The Man city match I later watched, he didn't start but he did well with that assist when he came on.
I just feel Partey, Rice and Odegaard should be our Midfield trio. Except maybe Havertz don improve Havertz is the errand boy if the team. He does the general work. He will press, he will mark, he is tackle, he is still expected to give assists and score goals. Partey, Rice and Odegaard is a very good starting line up. Then Havertz as a sub. |
