Could’ve won the Liverpool game. Should’ve won the Soton game. Even the one against Newcastle.
Big f up. Enough blames to go around. Both coach and players were naive and couldn't hold themselves to squeeze in the points required to end the season as winners. We choked. |

Jodera: Lol One of the jobs of modern attackers is to create and score goalscoring opportunities.
They're called attackers not strikers.
I don't see anyone calling Saka a striker The reason I made the comparison is just to let us see that tactical changes in modern times and changed the traditional roles of players. So that when you see a player performing below general opinion but well in line with the coaches opinion we don't argue. The work of strikers is to score goals. The work of inverted wingers is also to score goals. Having inverted wingers is a modification of the traditional 4-4-2 but the strikers (or goal threat) are placed away from the central defenders. The same way a false 9 is actually an AM that stays away from the opponent's DMs. You know that he is an AM only when he drops deep to transition the ball. Responding to your previous post, Messi have played both as an inverted winger, a false 9 and even as a traditional AM. Same with Trossard. As for the bolded, any player who is positioned in the opponent's final third is considered an attacker. This includes midfielders, wingers, and strikers. In some parlance they are called forwards. |

Jodera: Apologize for my late response.
The word 'inverted' is just the use of wingers (or Midfielders and rarely strikers) to make closer to the goalposts for more goalscoring opportunities. Wingers those days are mostly known for assists and crosses (that's why you see Right footed players playing the RHS of the wing and the left footed players playing the LHS of the wing). This is to give them that comfortability to always cross the ball the the two strikers Always situated in the box. Those days, Saka would play at the LHS while Martinelli would play on the RHS.
But now, due to tactical switch, it has changed and we can see where Saka and Martinelli are playing now. Nobody would call them STRIKERS , as you falsely alluded.
Same for False 9. The introduction of false 9 is to create fluidity in the final 3rd and involvement in midfield play in order to maintain possession (by having that extra outlet in midfield). It doesn't necessarily have to be a Midfielder. (Trossard and Messi were never Midfielders even though I admit Firmino was).
So you saying, wingers are strikers, false 9 is a Midfielder and Inverted FB are Midfielders are all wrong.
We all know sef that most wingers presently nowadays aren't strikers. Compare the first and second bolded phrases and see that you just want to argue. |

But the issue is Raya is not doing anything tangible to keep Ramsdale on his toes. He also is conceding useless goals.
We all praised Arteta for being ruthless when he benched Ramsdale but he needs to be ruthless too when dealing with Raya. That's why I said Raya is winning the battle only in Ramsdale's head. If Ramsdale focuses on the competition he can drop Raya to bench. |

BlueRayDick: Arteta caused it with his poor man management jare. He should at least let Ramsdale keep in UCL matches if it's Raya he prefers for EPL.
It makes no sense denying a player who was part of ur success story chance to even enjoy playing at the top level; it's unfair relegating him to Carabao cup just like that. Even if u want to ease him out of the club , u should go about it with sense. It's not poor man management, it's simply a man management style. Ramsdale messed up last season because he had a weak competition. What Arteta wants to achieve is to make both goalkeepers compete for shirt. As it stands now, Raya is winning the battle, not on the pitch but in Ramsdale's head. Instead of the brat to focus on the competition, and wait for an opportunity, he is whining like a spoit child with his 'I am an indegene' stupid mentality. Arteta wants Raya to keep Ramsdale on his toes and vice versa. There will be no free ride for anyone. The first choice will enjoy the choice games. As it stands now, we are out of Carabao, that's a set back for Ramsdale. If he leaves, we will still get another even more solid goalkeeper. |

Jodera: Before I would answer you question first, please oblige me
Define an Inverted winger? A striker drafted to either wing. They have to cut in to score so they choose a wing that is opposite to their dominant foot. A purpose of using inverted wingers is to create clearer scoring opportunities by stretching the opposing defense and making more space available. Many modern coaches may include a big centre forward, or a false striker in-between them depending on their tactical approach. Example, Liverpool had Mane and Salah with a false striker in Firmino which worked to a devastating effect. |

I doubt he will go for any second term. I seriously doubt. I think Fubara is the real winner in this battle. He stoops low to conquer. mostob: You are right and wrong at the same time. Yea, both Partey and Jorginho differs. Partey do drop at the CB too. The difference is that Partey like to hold the middle. You won't find him at the wing or ahead of the middle circle during buildup. Jorginho likes to roam to create fluidity which exactly is his main issue. He is not always there whenever you need him.
Partey would still stay and secure the box during counter attack but Jorginho will approach the ball carrier instead. That's the difference between the two. So how am I wrong now? You just butressed my point. |

BlueRayDick: Well, his best is not good enough for a team that sets sight to win at least one major trophy in a season.
In a tight football match those who play football know that there will come a time in the match when u just need one player to take the initiative and turn the tide of the game. Anytime the ball gets to Jorginho, and he just decides to either lay a safe pass to one of the back 4 or when he gets caught up and he has to put his body on the line to win an unnecessary foul; I just shake my head.
I have played with such players before and I know how frustrating it can be especially for the attackers. They will be left flat footed and just be running around waiting for that incisive pass that will never come. Jorginho was once the third best player in the world. I think he is not being put to use properly in a way that matches and utilizes his style |

toluxe0075: Omo, which kind talk be this. After coming up with ridiculous “off the ball” excuse for Harvertz, here you are again with a new role for Jorginho.
You are coming up with this “transit passes around the 3 defense” excuse because he performs woefully at the simple responsibilities expected of a dm. Even with the transition passes talk, Jorginho still average at it sef.
Besides, if he can’t transit passes around the defense to the attack, why then is he playing at all. This is expected of all dms. Partey does this and provides more defensively and attack wise just like many other dms do.
Even your statement that someone is “stuck in the 90s football” makes your defense of Jorginho more ridiculous because he doesn’t even know how to carry out the minimum responsibilities expected of a dm talk less of taking up more responsibilities expected of modern day dm.
Besides, why should we keep playing Jorginho or have players like him if they will keep being average at the responsibilities expected of them. Why should we go into games with them hoping for a miracle to happen for them to perform.
We benefited immensely from Partey’s presence in our games because he gives more just as Rodri does for Man city. So all these “new roles” and excuse for Jorginho and the likes don’t cut it. You didn't get my point. I was comparing Partey and Jorginho in their styles of play and not saying Jorginho is better. |

A001: Lols, I understand you clearly. I used to reason like this too when I was religious during my university days.
But life isn't like that. I didn't say voodoo doesn't exist. What I'm saying is, "voodoo" and "juju" are wrong terms.
It's mostly used by ignorant people. The correct term is "mysterious".
Underlying those mysterious feats people call voodoo, juju, spiritual, supernatural are some unknown laws of nature (unknown physics, chemistry, biology).
They're manifestations of some unexplained science generally.
About the spiritual realm, scientists will soon start demystifying that.
You see all those terms like dark matter, dark energy, etc., which you might have been seeing around in modern times, refer to aspects of what religious people call "spiritual realm", though most religious people and scientists don't know this at the moment.
Even many scientists doing research on dark matter and dark energy don't know.
In the native Yoruba culture, it's dark matter and dark energy our forefathers used to refer to when they use the term "weju" (meaning "being able to see the unseen realms" ).
Dark matter is simply matter that exists in the unseen realms, and dark energy is energy originating from the unseen realms.
I don't want to say much on the subject. These are not what to be discussed in detail on Nairaland because they're meant for the scientific community.
It's ignorant or mischievous people that call mysterious phenomena "voodoo", "juju".
If you know what you're talking about (unless you want your technique to remain a secret), you'd call it by its specific name.
For instance, if I know some codes to teleport, i.e. disappear (I'm sure you call this feat juju or voodoo in your area as many do in Yorubaland too), if I want to hide my knowledge from people, I'd just tell them it is "voodoo" or "juju".
But if I don't want to do this, I'd state the specific name of my stealth (or teleportation) technology.
Does it involve hiding in certain segments of the electromagnetic (EM) spectrum (the popular technique of our ancestors and forebears called ofe in Yoruba and similar terms in the other cultures around)? So that stealth technology is EM-based.
There's no juju or voodoo here.
Does the technique work based on the use of an invisibility cloak? Again, people are working on this, and breakthroughs will be achieved in the coming years.
No juju here as well. When I hear the word juju or voodoo, I just say to myself that it's either this person using it is ignorant (which is the case for most people) or is being secretive. You make a lot of sense here. I am close to agreeing but let me do some thinking. |
