Jodera: You're digressing and missing the main point. Whether he's good enough for arsenal or not, whether he needs to be sold or not is another discussion entirely.
The point of our argument is simple; did Tavarez perform very well more than Lokonga and Pepe for him to be rated above the duo this completed season?
You said No while I said Yes. If so, Bring facts that favours Lokonga and Pepe to be rated above tavarez just same way as I brought facts that favoured Tavarez earlier over the duo. That's how it's done
This one you're going about criticising Tavarez no be am at all. Elevate your candidates with facts they achieved instead bringing down Tavarez.
Abi Lokonga and Pepe no do anything this season?
Ps: I don't to talk about that issue in which Xhaka played Lb against Brighton. Even Arteta knows that's a mistake and he never tried that nonsense again immediately after that. Also, I'll talk about Tavarez's strength on another discourse entirely and not this one. This is your usual narrative and first sign of your losing an argument. I only respond based on your last comment, so forget about digression. Meanwhile I have said that I have no time to begin to go into scene by scene descriptions of Tavares'performance. I said that the very fact the coach has no confidence in him and opted to use Xhaka a midfielder as LB despite how silly the decision was is the main testament to Tavares weakness as a player. No other player was put in this condition. Even Tomi was played there as soon as he was fit enough. As for Pepe, I never said he did well, but he was not as poor as Tavares. As a matter of fact, he was a decent enough as a backup for Saka. Pepe's issue was not living up to his price tag. But he was decent enough. Lokonga had issues with fitness, but like we saw against Everton and when he was a lone midfielder he was slightly decent enough also. However, terrible he was he wasn't as bad as Tavares. Tavares' games was always full of errors. So many errors in passing, in positioning etc. I maintain he is the lowest rated player this season. If Tierney was half fit, he would have still benched him. |

Jodera: Name any match that we lost due to the bolded among the matches I listed aside crystal palace which I already acknowledged?
Moreover, you're talking his weaknesses, which we all know, but you didn't factor in his strength. All these things are what he did yet we won. What did Lokonga do when Partey was injured? What did Pepe do to even give person hope in the top 4 fight?
The thing is that, he was manageable and he even has stats to back it up. What influence did Lokonga have that made us lose back to back? Thank God for Elneny.
All these things you said didn't justify Tavarez being the worst this season. You are right that I have listed his weaknesses. Those weaknesses for me made us weak as a team and affected general performances both directly and indirectly. It affected us in all the matches he played recently. I dont have to bring you match scenes go check them yourselves. I agree he did fairly well earlier, but his recent displays were totally off it. Hence Arteta's decision to use Xhaka as a LB. That's the biggest indicator you should have that he was very poor. We definitely need to replace him this summer. Being the worse doesn't mean he is totally useless, but as Arsenal we should be doing better. I want him and Pepe to leave. Pepe because he is overpriced but Tavares because he is not intelligent enough for Arsenal. These are entirely my views. What are his strengths, help me in that. I want to talk good of him in my next post. |

daveP: Hickey is the most assured of coming right now.
Maybe those two won't come Sha. Especially as Ucl clubs want Bissouma. We kinda need the urgency Osimhen will bring. A link up with Partey is going to be absolutely stunning. Osimhen is special because he will add both ground and aerial threat apart from the defense splitting runs, hold up play and physicality. He won't come cheap and that's the problem. For me even if he will cost 90m let's get him. We need him. Another option is Darwin Nunez. We don't need more than two midfielders, we actually need one since Xhaka and Elneny are staying. If not I'd say we release one of those and add any two of Neves, Tielemans and Aouar to the shopping list. |

Roland17: Baba, to be honest ehn, na the narratives surrounding the kid dey pain pass, not necessarily the fact that he did not even play for us. I did not expect Saliba to be a starter if he stayed back but the way we continue to pretend like he has not been mismanaged since he joined us is what frustrates me the most. Baba, I will be 100% okay if folks raise their hands and say, we have not managed this kid well, we could have done better, including his banishment, the decisions and timing of his loan move. but NO, all I read here are comments that shoulder the blame on the kid just to protect Arteta. People are more interested in what he says, how he says it, none of them even watched the kid while he was on loan.
Will Saliba become the 2nd coming of F. Baresi if and when he returns? I don't think so because he is still very young and has a lot of development/ growth to do, especially when you consider the difference in both leagues. However, the kid is confident about himself, has put the work in with evidence and is asking for a fair chance to compete, that was all he asked for. He is not asking to be thrown into the first 11, he is just asking for a fair chance to compete! But all I read here are folks just hating on the kid.
For once, someone can think without bias and the compulsion to be right and be honest in admitting we mismanaged the kid and can do better! SIMPLE How was he mismanaged? By being sent on loan? Is that mismanagement? Na only him go loan? This na query o |

Total spend : 178M
Nketiah extension Elneny extension Saliba returns.
Is this possible? Remove Bissouma and Gabriel Jesus. Add another striker with the money. We are fine. Though I can't say how good Hickey is but if he is a good LB it's ok. |

Jodera: Lol... The question is, did Tavarez really weaken our team directly that costs us points for him to be the lowest rated? I don't think so and it's not even close.
Let's break down our losses in which our top 4 was affected
Crystal palace 2nd leg - a very shambolic display after a long time. He was tormented throughout the game and was partly culpable for the losses to since he was one of the worst players
Brighton - Not involved
Southampton - wasn't shambolic in that game as against the crystal palace
Chelsea - played a very good game and gave an assist. Plus his interception in Chelsea's half and key pass was instrumental in nketiah's 2nd goal and arsenal's third
Man u - scored the opening goal. Even though he was a bit shaky and caused the penalty, it wasn't capitalised on. We still won the game
West ham... We won even though he was culpable for Bowen goal.
Tottenham- didn't start. Game already over during his introduction
Newcastle - Everybody was bad. Very very bad. Would be Very unfair to point him here.
So how did he weaken our team or even weaken our play against top opposition especially when we won against Chelsea and Man u and he has goal contributions to both wins?
How is he worse than Pepe and Lokonga when he(Tavarez) have good first half of the season and was still very instrumental in the crucial stages when he was involved bar the crystal palace game?
If we're being fair, Pepe and Lokonga was worse than him this campaign. In terms of talent and quality he is the worst. Let me explain in points 1. He was an easy target in all the matches he played. This is because of his lack of positional awareness. If not for Xhaka and Gabriel covering, he would be a total disaster. 2. Being dropped for Xhaka (a midfielder) and Tomiyasu (a RFB) shows he lacks trust from his manager. 3. He hardly makes a correct pass, when he does he places his man under pressure. He lost the ball more than any player I saw for Arsenal this season despite being a defender. Some of those caused us goals. 4. He is very poor in tackling. Elanga made a mince meat of him which almost caused us the Man United game, save for a bit of luck. 5. He has very poor decision making when he pushes forward. He is too hasty in both crosses and runs. I noticed Martinelli always gets fed up playing alongside him. Just that Arteta has banned arguments on the pitch, he would have been collecting wotowoto for body steady for Martinelli hand. |

What we fans should be hoping this year is that the board set a higher target for Arteta , back him up with money to get the right set of players and hope Arteta himself hit the set target. Simple I can not say it better than this. |

ObaIgwe1: I have to concede to you and Jodera's argument. Especially the argument that Arteta plays a one striker system. I just dont want us to be in the situation we were in January when we were looking for a quality striker everywhere and couldn't get any. That plus injuries to Tomi and Partey cost us Top 4. Fingers crossed, I pray injury will be kind to us next season.
Marquinhos should just go on loan except he impresses during pre-season and we should sell Pepe and get another good winger. I really like Pepe and expected an Okocha in him but I have ran out of patient with him. We must get that most times the problem of managers getting players is subject to the boards financial approval. I know what Juventus demanded for Arthur Melo, Arteta could have done the deal is that's what's required, but the board didn't see it as financial favourable. I see how many fans are against signing Gabriel Jesus for 55m as quoted by City. But if we start losing games they will still complain why we didn't sign a striker. So in one voice we feel critical in another we feel sentimental The same with Guimares. Newcastle has a new sugar daddy and can buy anyone now. But one day they will want to offload waste pipes and it won't be easy because financial fairplay rules will come into play. |

kodded: Well finishing outside the top4 after spending over £250million in 5 transfer windows without any European football to distract us should be considered as a failure no matter what, let's stop celebrating mediocrity.
the main fact that we couldn't take advantage of Tottenham and man utd slip up should tell you how medicore Arteta is. It took Conte barley 5 month to make Tottenham a formidable side in the epl that went on to clinch the 4th position.
Arteta poor man management and ego is the reason why we are still trusting the process meanwhile Conte came in and Tottenham looked alive once again.
Whether you like it or not the decision of the manager affect the team performance for the rest of the season We warned him about Willian
We warned him about Mari
We warned him abou Travaers
We warned him about buying Ben white even tho we had saliba coming back from his successful loan spell and lacked a partey cover
We warned him that buying Bissuoma over ben white is more acceptable since Saliba was coming back after a successful loan spell and we needed a partey cover
We warned him that Bissuoma is 100% better than lokonja
We warned him that not signing any player in this last january window will fvck us up
We warned him that loaning all your fringe players without bringing adequate back up with cost us the season.
We warned him that missing out on £35milliom Bruno Guimaraes will hurt us in the long run (funny that he was the one that ended our hope of top4)
But did arteta listen to the obvious warnings? No!
He allowed his stubborn ego to get the worst out of him and look at where we are again, let's hope saka and martinelli are still trusting the process because it is this type of brain dead oversabi decision dey make players vesk leave their current club because of low or no ambition in that club. You have every right to feel aggrieved by the decisions of a manager. But you MUST understand that decisions are subjective and you only know if they are right after you see the effects. Now let's ask some questions 1. Did Arteta make bad signings? Yes and No. We know of quality signings like Odegaard, White, Tomiyasu and Ramsdale. Most of the backups such as Tavares and Lokonga were those of Edu. Edu does the director of football work and his job is to scout of young talents that will possibly become too stars. That's not Arteta's job. His job is to groom them, but whether they make it or not is enitreion the player. 2. Do we feel Arteta is the type that will go for a player that is mediocre? No. He has already cleared several deadwoods and his recents targets suggests he need quality and functionality. 3. Did Arteta face squad disciplinary challenges that could affect the season? Yes. He lost Aubameyang for free. 4. Were there season defining injuries that affected plans? Yes. He lost Tierney and Partey and then Tomiyasu and White. Suffice to say that if they were available, we would not have lost to Southampton, Brighton or Crystal Palace. Those three games could have qualified us for 3rd position. 5. Despite these challenges, did Arteta meet his season target? Yes. The target was clearly defined as getting us back to European competition. Hence his new and improved deal. 6. Are we satisfied? No. We are Arsenal and should be doing better than Europa League, hence the board will have to back up the manager and give him a bigger target for next season. |

ObaIgwe1: I can accept compromise in other departments, but we really need two quality CFs addition bro. We must have 3 good strikers to be comfortable... Auba has left, Laca is following... so we must get their replacement.
We saw how injuries robbed us of Top 4, because of lack of quality replacement. Reason M.City will still dominate is because their bench as almost as good as those on the field. Besides we have more matches to play this season... We need a full good squad.
2 quality CFs, Youri Tielemans or another equally good or better midfielder as a minimum. I can accept compromise of giving Tavarez another chance to prove himself Having a packed squad usually affects the manager's decision. I look at top manager recently and discover that they don't use more than 20players in a season. I refer quality to quantity. So since Nketiah is staying and has proved a bit reliable plus the hope that Balogun will improve, for this summer I will prefer we get one CF. But that CF must be really classic, I mean we should aim at Osimhen or Nunez. I don't get this Scamacaca or whatever. Actually sounds like double scam. As for midfield, we will need one more also since Elneny is staying and will be a good backup - and Tielemans is very OK. I will not like Lokonga to go on loan. There will be enough games for him plus he needs to master what Arteta wants from him. He is young and he is good, but he needs to know how to play in the manager's system. Saliba's return settles the defense. We need to sell Tavares and get someone who will be a reliable backup. Arteta must be ruthless in this regard. The Marquinhos signing is confusing me as I can't say if he can replace Pepe. If not we will need another winger. Generally this should be the summer plan and we keep some money against January. Also, we shouldn't have more than 20players in the first team squad, we should use academy players to make up the required 25. |

kodded: spot on with your analysis
But for me, I believe that Arteta should be rated lower, because it is his brain dead decisions that cost us that top4
How can you go into the 2nd half of the season with a very thin and inexperienced squad knowing fully well that an injury to either saka or partey will derail our season so much.
Arteta should be rated 4.5 because he had the leverage to win the top4 battle if he made additional signings in this past January but he decided to take the gamble and lost to the team that actually did something in the January transfer window. How surprising The plan was not to finish 4th, it was to finish 6th. So he took a team to that effect. We are talking 4th now because Man United were useless to themselves and Tottenham were lucky they got Conte. |

mostob: sometimes we just have to let go... Barcelona will be selling De Jong this summer despite their lack of midfielders. We should let Xhaka go please. Get Tieleman and a back up for Partey. Another extra midfielder for squad depth if Torreira will be sold. Then, give Patino and Azeez (if he is staying) some minutes in Europa to sharpen them up. Our best midfield partnership was Xhaka/Partey. Xhaka proved useful despite all odds against him from fans since his move away broke on day line day last summer. Nevertheless, Xhaka-Partey should be the standard, any player coming should break it not breaking it for the player. Xhaka is an enigma, I won't be surprised if he proves a better partner to Partey than Tielemans. He just won't go away. |

At a time many other Governors were leaving huge debts, I left the equivalent of $500 million Dollars in investment as well as local and foreign currency, including $156 million in Dollar-denominated bonds.
2. For the first time in the history of Anambra State, Ambassadors and High Commissioners of notable countries such as United Stated, Britain, Russia, European Union, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, the Netherlands, Canada, among others, visited the State. Before my tenure, Anambra was practically a pariah state blacklisted by the Diplomatic Corps and international development partners.
3. Development partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, the World Bank, DFID, the European Union etc., which hitherto were not in Anambra State started working with the State. Anambra was consistently adjudged one of the best states in development partnership and commitment to reforms for good governance.
4. He was recognised as Best Governor by the Millennium Development Goals Office (OSSAP-MDGs) and the UNDP in the implementation of their programmes in Nigeria.
5. The Nigerian Debt Management Office (DMO) rated Anambra as the least indebted state in Nigeria. In spite of visible and measurable achievements recorded in various sectors, the State under him did not borrow or raise bonds for her various projects.
6. The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria rated Anambra State as the most financially stable state in the country.
7. The State's ground-breaking return of schools to their original owners - Voluntary Agencies (Churches) on 1st January 2009, and subsequent partnership with the Agencies in Education, saw the State move from 24th position out of 36 States to Number One in National Examination Council (NECO) and West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations for three consecutive years. This made the World Bank to commission a study, led by the renowned Prof. Paul Collier of Oxford University, on this revolutionary partnership and phenomenal achievement.
8. The State also entered into strategic partnership with the Churches in the Health sector. This symbiotic relationship resulted in a tremendous boost to health care because of the services offered by health institutions owned by Voluntary Agencies, while the State restored grants to the agencies and made available to them more than 50 million Dollars in various types of support.
10. Through partnership with the Church in the Health sector, his Government funded the transformation of -:
a: Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi; b: Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala; c: St Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha; d: Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha; and e: St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu. His Government also built the Joseph Nwilo Heart Centre in St. Joseph, Adazi-Nnukwu, where heart operations are now being performed.
11. His Government won the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (1 Million dollars) as the best-performing state in immunisation in the South-East. With complementary funding from our Government, they used the money to build 10 Maternal and Child Care Centres across the State, particularly in rural communities, in partnership with the Churches.
12. The State was the first to procure and distribute more than 30,000 computers to secondary schools, including 22,500 from HP. The Managing Director for Personal Systems Group HP Inc, Mr. FabriceCampoy described the deployment as the biggest of such projects in the Middle-East and Africa.
13. Anambra State Government provided Microsoft Academies to more than 500 secondary schools, which the Head of Microsoft in Nigeria (Mr. Ken Span) described as the biggest such deployment in Africa so far.
14. The State provided Internet access to more than 500 secondary schools, which the CEO of Galaxy Backbone (Mr. Gerald Ilukwe) characterized as incomparable to any in the country.
15. More than 700 buses were provided to secondary schools in the State by our Government.
16. Boreholes were provided in schools all over the State.
17. Numerous classrooms were built in all the 177 communities of the State.
18 As part of the efforts to turn around the economy of the State, a number of companies were attracted to build their facilities in the Anambra State. A case in point is SABMiller, the 2nd largest brewery in the world, which built their first Green Field facility in the State, which is today one of the most successful facilities they operate globally.
19. A number of other companies followed the SABMiller initiative and were all supported and encouraged under our Government; a good example is INNOSON Motor Manufacturing Company, from which our government bought more than 1,000 vehicles.
20. Anambra State for the first time started close collaboration with recognized government security agencies (the Police, Army, Navy, Department of State Security, Civil Defence, among others), offering them various types of support including provision of more than 500 security vehicles. The improvement in security was phenomenal, such that the former IG of Police (Abubakar Mohammed) lauded Anambra State for not witnessing any bank robbery in my last three years in office.
21. To further enhance security, Anambra State provided at least one security vehicle to each of all the 177 communities in the State as well as various organizations such as markets and Churches.

His Government commenced the planned development of the Igbariam Campus of the ChukwuemekaOdumegwu-Ojukwu University, including the fencing, construction of internal roads, electrification, construction of the Faculty of Law, Auditorium, Administrative Block, Faculty of Agriculture, Management Building, among others).
24. His Government attracted the World Bank support on erosion - National Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) - to Anambra State.
25. His Government was the first to do Poverty Mapping in Nigeria, as a guide for the effective implementation of our poverty-alleviation strategies.
26 His Government, for the first time, undertook the aerial mapping of Awka as well as the production of Structure Plans for Awka Capital Territory, Onitsha and Nnewi.
27. During his tenure and with his Government's support, Anambra State became an oil producing State.

29. His government commenced the development of the 'Three Arms Zone' comprising Government House/Governor’s Lodge, Legislative Building/Speakers Residence, and Judiciary Building with Chief Judge’s Residence.
30. By the end of his tenure in 2014, more than twelve (12) health institutions, including two hospitals, had secured accreditation; when we took off in 2006, no health institution in Anambra State was duly accredited.
31. Anambra State was the first to undergo national peer review, which scrutinised State Governments for good governance, through the State Peer Review Mechanism (SPRM), an initiative of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the DFID.

mostob: To a certain extent..I agree with you. How can a striker be unable to score for 3 months? Lacazette hasn't scored from open play since December, 2021. If not that he had competition with Nketiah which Arteta was lucky to uncover after several calls and advise from me it would have been a disaster for us. That was the mistake Wenger had not that Giroud was bad. He had no competition and for any player that's not healthy. |

mostob: Exactly.. Giroud was not an agent please.... The mistake Wenger made that season was not getting competition for Giroud. The same mistake Arteta was making with Lacazette until Nketiah showed up. |

mostob: I still think Wenger was at fault for that league we lost to leceister city. I'm really happy for Giroud TBH. Giroud in French squad that won the WC was not the focal point. There were Frizzy,Mbappe,Kante and others. At arsenal, Wenger made him the focal point even when it was glaring that he lacks some important qualities. Giroud is best suited for plan B so Wenger should be blamed for not getting a proper striker in that January transfer window. Lol Cc Fkhalifa |

Fkhalifa: I was part of those who did not like seeing Giroud upfront for us, but i'll say Giroud is an example of you can be average at whatever you do, but with God's grace, you can achieve big in life. Giroud us not average. It's his skillset and pattern that Arsenal fans dislike or rather don't understand: once an Arsenal striker doesn't resemble Henry, he can't please Arsenal fans. The problem isn't Giroud but the fans who can't see beyond Henry. The same mentality was used in judging the likes of Guen, Xhaka, etc if he doesn't play like Cazorla he isn't good. |

50d33q: Very simple the coach needed a useless workaholic and giroud is a perfect one You can't need something that is useless So you have accepted he solved a coach's need? |
