MiddleDimension:That's not smoke. Its a form of condensation. You usually see it on the wingtips where high pressure and low pressure air rapidly mix and form a vortex. Water vapour in the air then condenses, and forms "clouds". |

chkil0:I like how that turret looks. Almost can't imagine there's space for more than two people. |
Point made. Will go back to posting pics from now on. |
tdayof:-Alpha jets deployed fast with no ISR -Pilot unable to identify people on the ground himself Your ground troops would have told your pilots that BH spotted in this x and y location. Your airforce would have (or should have) known the location of that refugee camp. Chances are Nigerian military personnel had probably been to that camp before to offer assistance. The approaching BH was approaching in a stationary camp? Some serious juju. So location of camp is known. Pilot sees the first thing that moves and drops his bombs, heads home. No reference maps, no asking for confirmation, no nothing. And this is the outfit with operational efficiency? Oh okay then . Don't ever compare NAF mistakes to USAF mistakes. In a different league. Anyways, I'm done with this topic. |
I would assume the mobile launcher variant is in operation or evaluation with SA special forces.

Bombing with accuracy in built up areas, and occasionally killing 100 civilians . So much for accuracy, target planning and operational efficiency. I stand corrected, but I don't think even the Americans in all their years of conflict have *accidentally* killed 100 people in one go. One can only imagine all the other secret times NAF pilots have gone back to base, given the thumbs up. Meanwhile 10/15/20 innocent civilians lie dead. Or payloads which haven't landed anywhere near the target.

chkil0:He knows this full well. SAAF has been capable of precision bombing for decades. 85 Combat Flying school is where SAAF fighter pilots cut their teeth in precision weapons deployment and air-air combat He is just playing dumb, out of I don't know....jealousy? Anger? Who knows. There is nothing that the NAF is currently doing during operations that most peace time air forces around the world aren't doing during training. Boko Haram has no heavy air defences or aircraft, so NAF pilots are not under extreme pressure during their bombing runs. He knows this, but he decides to troll his own thread. Sad. I think you'll enjoy this video. SAAF air-air combat training under high G's. Air-air is taught/trained in the Hawks before pilots recap their skills in the Gripen (for those who pass) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoYbdlXkttU |
frumentius:I hope this move makes the South African government feel threatened, then plans get put in place to acquire Gripen E. One can only dream. |
chkil0:Lol and I find it funny that we both could easily get destroyed by Egypt and one or two others. But still, doesn't mean people must make up things out of (insert relevant emotion). |
tdayof:Rather use your mobile data to research how UN operations work. Its not SANDF lead. |
Henry240:He must have been off playing golf when BH had tanks and other heavy equipment, clearly visible from the sky, and easy to destroy from the air. But zero action till last minute. |
chkil0:An additional video for those that only see subs in the movies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZpnqYyv1VV4 |
kikuyu1:I wouldn't say vanity project, more skills retaining project. Many of the engineers who were involved in Rooivalk development and other projects are reaching retirement age. I think Denel is looking for its next big project that will involve hundreds of engineers, technicians etc etc and covering it up as a viable economic possibility. Who knows maybe it will be a commercial success. |
Nigerian Air Force - perfect target training since 1993. |
It seems as though bombing Boko Haram has confused some people into believing they actually have an air force that can defend anything. When your airforce cant defend against say....4 or 5 4th generation fighters . Zero air superiority. Only thing missing from this picture is if it were taken in black and white. As a true reflection of the "era"
|
Henry240:Real pilots who can all get shot down tomorrow by "Rhino hunters". Zero air force, since 1993. Zero front line fighters, zero air superiority. |
ViceAdmirlAgain:I'm not too clued up on Namibia's Navy. If its not too much of a hastle, have any pics of their (your?) main assets lying around? |
IbnSultaan:You're going to have to repeat this in English. Or any other form of recognized communication. |

Herny240's aircraft assembly plant. Nigerian excellence.

IbnSultaan:Pretty picture, but how many JF-17's are on Nigerians runways TODAY/NOW? These are the last few months Nigeria has of operating a 1990's air force with your F-7's. Embrace it, enjoy the moment, JF-17's will come.....don't stress :-) |
Henry240:Only time someone laughs with a "buhahahahaha" is if they're mentally ill, go get yourself checked out. This is obviously a concept Nigeria knows nothing off. Borders being patrolled by air assets. In this case, our biggest national park happens to be on the border. What is exactly so "rib hurting" to turn on your recon pods while you are there? We'll wait for your non existant answer. |
http://www.defenceweb.co.za/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=48246:denel-land-systems-upgrading-sa-army-g6s&catid=50:Land&Itemid=105 Denel Land Systems is in the process of executing an Armscor contract that will lead to an upgrade of the South African Army’s G6s to address obsolescence. In addition, Denel Land Systems is in the process of qualifying a new Laying and Navigation system for the SA Army that will incorporate the latest computing systems and inertial navigation mechanisms. The new system integrates seamlessly with the SA Army Artillery Target Acquisition and Tracking system, and will speed up the ability to navigate and fire accurately, Denel Land Systems said. This system will be deployed on the SA Army G5s, G6s and Bateleur Multiple Launch Rocket Systems. The development and qualification of both projects will last about another year before the system is delivered.

frumentius:You just punched him in the throat. I don't think the NAF even knew what Sambisa Forest looked like from the air until CNN started reporting on Boko Haram. |
Henry240:Even more sad is that you leave out the rest of the paragraph . Shame this article has really hit you deep. "There are cheaper aircraft to use than Gripens for such an application, he adds, but anti-poaching surveillance is usually combined with other tasks". SAAF has been flying along the Zim, Mozambique, Botswana border almost as long as the SAAF has had aircraft. Which other tasks do you think he's talking about? So why not turn on your recon pods when you're over Kruger National Park? NAF doesn't patrole its borders? You first rely on VICE News or BBC to let you know there's a problem? |
Henry240:12 Gripens were in rotational storage. You are the one (including your friend the time Agaugust) who said the Gripens were put in permanent deep freeze storage, never to be seen again. Airframes were rotated. This article simply states that those airframes will be brought back to constant operational duty. No one ever denied rotational storage f0.0l. This is what Darren Olivier says, look at his language used. One of SA's most clued up defence experts. Not some Frenchie reporter who doesn't know the difference between Makhado and Waterkloof. By the way, how is your fake aircraft manufacturing plant coming along?

SAAF GRIPENS BROUGHT OUT OF ROTATIONAL STORAGE www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/paris-south-african-air-force-boosts-gripen-availab-438456/ "Previous low availability of South African Air Force (SAAF) Saab Gripen C/Ds has been overcome by bringing stored aircraft back into service, says Lt Col Josias Mashaba, commanding officer of the service's 2 Sqn. ... South Africa has 19 single-seat Gripen fighters and nine two-seat D-model examples, most of which are operated by 2 Sqn at Waterkloof air base. At least 12 of the aircraft were put into long-term storage in 2013 because of severe budget cuts. ... "Every country has its ups and downs and has budget cuts," Mashaba notes. "We have overcome them and we basically have all our Gripens up and running" ... South African Gripens are introducing an indigenous datalink called "Link ZA", which allows data sharing with the nation's BAE Systems Hawk 120 lead-in fighter trainers. "We 'Gripenised' the Hawk," says Mashaba. "When you are flying the Hawk, you are able to see the Gripens around you. The stepping stone from Gripen to Hawk is actually much easier." Correction in that article. 2 Squadron is at Makhado, not Waterkloof.
