ife01: Hello house, I'll appreciate directions in this regard: I'm applying for a 2yrs research Visa. I've arranged accommodation - but the best my would be landlord could help with is a Confirmation letter. I'm thinking that may not be sufficient. Alternative is to book an hotel - my questions are: how long does the booking have to be considering the nature of the visa I'm requiring? Also, must it be paid for? OR will the confirmation letter be sufficient?
Thanks @staggerlee and others, please help I think the confirmation letter is fine, ask the landlord to stamp it at the police station |

OgaTheTop2: Thanks a lot Stagg. I understand Nlanders can be pain in the anus...lol.
Btw, I settled for Airport Game Lodge in Joburg. They asked me to send my international passport data page, front and back copies of my credit card and also fill a kind of card authorization form. My fear is I don't know if this is in order. Am I not exposing my card details?
I am traveling this weekend and and i want to get this hotel thing done with.
Advice bruh.
Thanks. Dropping credit card details is a norm here, if its a south african credit card, your bank will get authorization before any debit is made, I don't know how naija cards work. I also don't know that hotel u are talking about. So I don't want to commit myself by telling u to go ahead, but u can take the risk its entirely up to u |

OgaTheTop2: Yes my guy, I have those cards but they requested my presence in d hotel to swipe my card for payment. Right now I'm trying to get someone in Pretoria I can send money to and just get d hotel booked so I get the receipt of payment before flying out.
Btw stagg, have you ever heard of counter cash ticket? I was about booking my flight and a friend dissuaded me because of the cost and that I will get ticket to SA for 85k. Most prices online start from 130k. What do you think....plus can I write a professional exam in any IT prometric center in SA?
Thanks a lot. You can pay for hotels online am sure it has to do with your cards, everyone pays for hotels online. I dont know about air ticket, i always buy my tickets from accredited agents like fly center or directly from the airlines. you can write your exam at any prometric center the main thing na money |

Keneking: So are you saying that its better to earn the PhD and then apply for Critical Skills Visa? Or does one need a PhD plus articles in journal to apply for critical skills?
Clarify if critical skills visa is the same as PR. With PHD certificate you can get a PR straight no need for critical skills first Critical skill visa (formally exceptional skill visa) is just a work visa for 5 years that can make you work legally in your field of study. PR is permanent residence, which allows you to work and live permanently in the republic. You can apply for a south african I.D no with your PR. After 5 years of ur PR, if of good conduct you are entitled to become a SA citizen |

Keneking: Hi pls how possible is it to convert from student visa to permanent visa in SA? Its a long long process but its possible. During my time, I did masters in electrical engineering and started my PHD, I applied for exceptional work permit. I got a letter from my supervisor plus my publications and some other things and I applied, thankfully I got it. With exceptional skills visa you can apply for a Permanent Residence Permit and I got in. But now you have to get a Critical work visa which u need to join a professional body and the body gives u a letter with that letter you take other docs like publications and so on you apply for the critical skills. With critical skills, after 1 year u can apply for PR. Or wait till you get a PHD and apply for PR. Mind u, your chances of getting all these visas depends on course of study. Your best bet is Sceience Tech Engineering or Medicine with a minimum of Masters degree |

OgaTheTop2: I will have to try these hotels. The alternative I got wouldn't take card as well unless I'm on ground for them to swipe my card. Even though I'm paying in full.
Btw, those hotels you mentioned, are they in Midrand or Pretoria? Year that's true, I just remembered you need a cheque or credit card for most hotels. The cards that your name are written on it with embossed lettering, you hardly see them in naija. The hotels I mentioned are in Midrand you can try them |

Any help? It depends on the area you are looking at however, mosy hotels u can pay via your master or visa debit card as lond as your card is activated for int'l transactions. If u choose Midrand and u pay online, I can help u follow up on the receipt as long as you have genuinely paid online. |

samtol4: Learn to be straightforward in life .Here you said you used Ecobank and Access bank in another post you said you do not use Nigerian Atm Bros, they are not my cards, I said that for someone that was asking if Nigerian cards still work in SA. After the announcement of that CBN thingyin dec, I tried using naija cards and they both worked. So I still insist I don't have functional accounts in Nigeria. You can jump into the vaal lake if u don't believe |

kaylonda: Banks currently (Diamond/GTB) charge 20.4 - 21.5 rand to a naira. I have been in SA this past week and have been charged from 21.3 - 21.4 - 20.4 - 21.5 when withdrawing from Nedbank ATM,
When you say even banks won't charge that, which banks do you refer to? Good for U, I don't have Nigerian accounts functioning anymore cos of BVN, will get it done next month when I visit Lagos. As u all know rands is very volatile, when I said 26 it was last weekend. Ecobank charged someone I was with at mug and bean woodmed 26.3 rands, and someother guy took uba last weekend too at 25.9 to a rand via his GTB card. Rand got to 16 to a dollar over the course of the week though it has risen now to 15.6 now to a dollar, this would have made the Naira stronger against the rand. So good for u at 20 to a Rand even though I find it to believe but what's my biz? The guy has paid his 4k rands that's all |

muhaogunlo: @staggerlee, you would have said you won't be able to help him ab initio and that you are giving him the rate of agents rather than saying "If u can pay 26 naira to a Rand", anybody that read that comment will think that you are just being mean bearing in mind that online gives an unrealistic value of 12.9, people are going through a lot to travel, an innocent comment like yours can give the person sleepless nights in the face of the falling value of the naira. Thanks #just saying. Bros, I was going to introduce him to ibo traders and presently they charge 30 naira, I can swear that the guy didn't do it at 22 naira to a rand even banks won't charge u that. I have assisted someone here getting his police report. I will gladly assist anyone here, but when it concerns money. Lailai, I can't. I can only give tips. |

samuelUMOH: 26? Huh that is extremely high! Ask any one who swipes his naija card here in SA how much they charge? A friend used uba with his gtb card registered to his uba, he was charged 19 to 1, a day later, gtb sent him a mail and reversed the transaction that they used the wrong exchange rate and now charged him @ 25.9 to a rand. Another person paid at Mug and Bean, with his ecobank atm he was charged 26.3 to a rand. Someone else used her zenith Atm in New york, she was charged 295 to a dollar (this was 3 weeks ago) But when you look at the exchange rate via google you will see 196 to $1 or 12.3 to R1. So bro find another means mehn. You can talk to aboki's to do a transfer for u |
